We Need Your Art (Stop Messing Around and Make Something) by Amie McNee

I'm behind on my review of this one because it hit a bit close to the bone. It was clearly something I needed to read. I saw an Instagram post about this book and responded, "I need to read this." I was approved for an ARC on NetGalley only a few hours later. I've also picked it up, flicked through it, and put it back several times at Readings.

If you are a creative —a writer, artist, actor, or musician—and you are in a bit of a creative hole, you need to read this book. Even if you aren't in a creative hole, get it anyway. Put it on your bookshelf and pull it out whenever you procrastinate about starting something new. Or whenever someone says something disparaging about your work. We need your art, and you need this book.

Each chapter has a set of prompts, which you can do over and over and in any order that you need them. This is a self-help book to help you remember (or perhaps discover) your worth as an artist. I'm off to re-read the chapter about procrastination, and next time I'm in a bookstore, I'll get myself a copy to put on my shelf with a sticky note on that chapter.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Australia, who knew I needed to read this book, and to NetGalley for this ARC. We Need Your Art by Amie McNee is available now in print, audio and ebook formats.

👍 Thumbs up.

Go read a book!
