A nonfiction early reader that teaches about sloths but also teaches the diagraph "th" and various tricky words. Information is included on tasks to complete before, during and after the reading to build comprehension and the learning expierence. The pictures also support comprehension and language building. Each page has a photograph and 1-2 sentences leading to a manageable text for K-2 early readers. The easy to read format will be enjoyed by many.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
This is a great book for young readers, parents, or educators. It has tons of information about sloths in it. Beyond that, this book will really help kids with the -th sounds. Not just sloth, but words like thin, then, thick, and their.
Would definitely recommend!

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for a honest review. I promise my review is 100% accurate to me.
Although I found the information direct and easy to comprehend, I found it the "ideas for using this book" and "more ideas" positions of the book to be the real winners.

Filled with adorable pictures of sloths, this one is full of fun facts and perfect for new readers. Perfect for the animal loving kiddo.

Thanks to NetGalley and Capstone for an advanced reading copy of Sloths. Sloths will be released to retailers on August 1, 2025.
Sloths has two purposes. First, it gives information on the animal to beginning readers. The pictures and captions are informative and the paragraphs are perfect for beginning readers. The second purpose of sloths is to teach phonetics- specifically the digraph th and other t blends. It’s perfect for kindergarten and first graders who are learning th and want to learn about a new animal!

Cute and informative book about sloths. As an educator, the sentence structure needs revision. Sentences should not start with the word "But", and one sentence in the book is only two words long. The word "things" is used often (I assume because this decodable reader focuses on the "th" sound, however I do feel the sentence could elaborate without being too wordy. Otherwise, students in my class would find this enjoyable.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this.

My 6 year old loves learning about new animals and we thought this was super simple and cute! The pictures are also great and precious.

Be prepared for many cute photos of sloths!!!
This book is perfect for little ones who learn how to read. Complete with the guides for parents, teachers, and caregivers.
Since my son is only 4 years old, we only read it out loud for him. He loved the photos so much.
Even though this book is short but it's quite informative about sloths.
Thank you to Laura Stickney, Capstone, Picture Window Books, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Sloths are such fun and interesting animals! This book had a lot of great information and was really fun to read. I got to read it with my 7-year-old nephew, who loves sloths—he was so excited! We enjoyed learning new facts and talking about what makes sloths so special. It was a nice mix of learning and fun, and we had a great time reading it together.
I recommend this book. A huge thanks to NetGalley, the author & the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy!!

This is such a cute early non fiction reader! I absolutely love the beautiful photo images and the words are perfect for an emerging reader. I appreciate the guides at the beginning and end for someone working with an early reader, and the "Tricky words" list, word count, and skills focus is helpful for tracking. At the end there are more practice and extended learning suggestions for the concepts. I would love to add this to my elementary school library early reader non fiction collection! Thanks to Picture Window Books and Capstone along with NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

My son and I loved this book for different reasons, as a mom with a new reader I loved the beginning that provided ideas for learning before/during/after which helped me guide the reading better. Whereas my son loved reading/learning about sloths while being drawn in by the vibrant and fun pictures. Highly recommend for new learners and especially Sloth lovers!

I want more!! Sloths are my favorite animals which means I do spew random facts about them to people so this was excellent! Please someone give me the physical copy for my birthday!

This book does a great job providing opportunities for young readers to decode words and practice their reading skills. It has fun and engaging pictures which allow for discussion. The print is a good size for young readers and does not have too many words on each page that can become overwhelming for children. It focused on the digraph "th" and allowed plenty of opportunity to practice this new reading skill. I would have loved to see more specific information about the sloths, but it is a great decodable reader.

Okay, as a 36 year old woman... I'm not the target audience for this children's book. But I have always LOVED sloths, lol! I actually learned a bit from this little book and loved the high definition photographs. I believe this series is geared at learning phonics and I liked how the book included teaching guidance and suggestions for engaging children in a discussion on sloths. I think my 5 year old nephew would love this book and will probably get him a copy :)
Thank you to NetGalley, Capstone, and Laura Stickney for the eARC of this children's book!

Great book for early readers who are animal lovers. There are tips for parents in the front of the book and an explanation of this publisher's decodable step levels in the back. Step 3 has a focus on digraphs. The photographs are lovely and sure to catch a young one's attention.

This is a book designed to help children with their reading, using a technique called Science of Reading. I don't know much about the debate about ways to teach reading, except that there is a heated debate about the topic. Anyway, that's not why I requested it, I wanted to see pictures of sloths. And there were loads of them in this well presented book. It also had instructions for teachers, so if I was using this to help a child even I, with my lack of knowledge about reading techniques, could effectively use this engaging book. Very nicely presented and photographed with interesting sloth facts, this book feels natural, something a child would want to read, rather than trying too hard to be educational, even though it is.
On one page there was some weird stuff about 'moms' that struck me a discordant, but I suspect that's because I'm not american (although I think mothers might be more appropriate when talking about animals?)

Decodable books are all the rage, and who doesn't love a sloth? There's nothing else remarkable here. Because of the conversation questions about where a sloth lives, a map would've been a nice touch.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Sloths is great for students who are working on the digraph th. I like how there are reading comprehension suggestions and even includes the words that maybe hard for students to read so they can be exposed prior to reading.

This book definitely achieves its goal of helping readers learn how to pronounce and read "th" sounds and words, while also teaching them about sloths. The author made sure to cover every main aspect of a sloth's life: food, habitat, unique features, etc. There doesn't appear to be anything missing, and young readers will have a clear and good understanding of sloths after they read this book. As for the digraph aspect: it got the job done. It was perfectly completed with the guides at the beginning and end of the book, to give pointers to teachers/parents/caregivers on how to effectively teach children their digraphs. Lastly, all of the images matched the writing on every page, which is also important for an educational book. Bravo!

A good introductory text with short, easy to read sentences that contain the digraph /th/ for readers who are working on this sound. The content is high interest, with photographs that align with the words. I recommend this book for schools and libraries.
