4 Stars! First, thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the advanced copy of this book. I was so excited to read it and am so grateful for the chance to get to do so early!

The premise of this book is so interesting and I could not wait to see how it played out. The book follows Jet, a known procrastinator who finds herself with a very imposing deadline...she is going to die in a week. After a brutal attack, the doctors have given Jet one week to live, and she decides to use it to solve her own murder.

I loved the idea of this book and how Holly Jackson formatted the countdown throughout the week. At first I was going to say that it felt like the book was a bit long, but then I realized that I think I was actually just feeling the pressure of the limited time that Jet had left and was dying (no pun intended) for her to solve her murder before time was up.

I genuinely loved the dynamic between Jet and Billy. In a book FULL of bad players, they were the bright spots that gave me something to route for...them and Reggie, of course :)

My only issue with this book, if I had to pinpoint one, was that I was constantly forgetting that Jet was supposed to be a 27 year old woman. She definitely acted more like a teenager, and I would argue that the book read more like a YA book. This isn't a criticism, however, just an observation.

In the end, I really enjoyed this book (except I'm on the fence about that ending) and would recommend it to fans of AGGGTM for sure and even to those new to Holly Jackson who like a low intensity murder mystery.

After she's attacked and left for dead, Jet has a choice- to undergo and very risky surgery with a slim chance of saving her life or to accept she will be dead in about a week. Jet has never really finished anything in her life but decides to spend her remaining week alive solving her own murder. In the process she digs up all the secrets her wealthy family and small town have been hiding- but is it enough to solve her murder?

Wow. I have no words. Holly has done it AGAIN!

I was wondering going into this how her writing style would translate into her first adult thriller and this was not what I was expecting! It felt different, more mature but yet still had that Holly touch!

Jet has quickly become my favorite character Holly has written (Sorry Pip!) She was sarcastic in the best ways. And even knowing she is currently dying, she took the time to become a better her.

I won’t spoil anything so I’ll keep this part short. The ending wasn’t where I saw this going. I had a whole theory planned out. I almost made my own murder board! But then again I should’ve known that if I figured it out that quickly, Holly had other plans.

HOLLY WHY?! This is a fantastic mystery with all the makings of a gut wrenching re read. Jet is the daughter of a rich local family who is struggling to figure out what she wants to do in life. When she is attacked on Halloween, the doctors tell her she will grow a brain aneurysm that kills her in a week. The issue? Jet doesn't know who attacked her. With some help from her childhood best friend Billy, Jet vows to spend the week solving her murder. If Holly Jackson does anything right, it's the detective duo with amazing banter and an engaging mystery for them to solve. I laughed, I gasped, and I cried. GIVE ME 10 MORE HOLLY!

My fav author is back with another banger …a twist to the murder mysteries she normally writes. The fact that Jet had a week to solve her own murder…wow! I loved everything about this story! I wasn’t expecting the story to be so gripping and suspenseful.

Not Quite Dead Yet is a fast-paced and addictive thriller with a really clever plot. The story follows a girl named Jet who wakes up in a hospital — only to realize she’s not actually dead. From there, she has to figure out who wanted her dead and uncover the truth before it’s too late. Along the way, there are so many twists, secrets, and shocking moments that kept me turning the pages. I loved how smart and determined Jet was as she put the pieces together. Billy stole the show though! I love how he stayed by Jet’s side the entire time and promised to continue to find who did it if they didn’t figure it out in time. He was definitely a ride or die friend and I wish they had more time to explore what it could’ve been romantically. The end almost had me in tears when she was writing my her goodbyes but I was hoping somehow she was magically going to survive this.

This book is perfect for fans of mysteries and thrillers with strong female leads. I couldn’t put it down and highly recommend it!

First off, I would like to thank Random House Publishing-Ballantine|Bantam and author Holly Jackson for allowing me to read this novel, Not Quite Dead Yet, via Netgalley. All opinions following are my own.

This debut adult novel from Holly Jackson follows main character, Jet. On Halloween night, Jet is brutally attacked and left for dead in her home. The killer assumed she was dead after hitting her over the head three times with a blunt object, and she probably would've died had it not been for her childhood best friend, Billy, hearing Jet's dog howling uncontrollably.

Waking up sometime later in the hospital surrounded by family and friends, Jet immediately remembers her attack but feels lucky to be alive. However, her supporters seem less than thrilled and are acting very strange. She soon realizes why when her doctor comes and in and explains that a piece of her skull broke off and is lodged along an artery in her brain. Normally, they would do surgery to fix this so that an aneurysm wouldn't kill her. However, Jet has Polycystic Kidney Disease, a genetic malady that her father also suffers from. With this complication, Jet has less than a ten percent chance of surviving the surgery. On the other hand, if she doesn't have the surgery, Jet will face certain death within a week from an aneurysm. With these facts, Jet, a lifelong procrastinator, decides to do something that has never been done before: she's going to solve her murder.

Unfortunately, the suspect list is not short. There is her ex-boyfriend JJ, whose proposal she rebuffed. There is Andrew, the village drunk who has expressed his disdain for her family publicly. There is her older brother, Luke, who has an anger problem. There is her ex-best friend turned sister-in-law, Sophia, and those are just the ones she can think of off the top of her head. With the help of Billy, can Jet do the seemingly impossible and solve her own murder before time runs out?

This book grabbed my attention from the premise and didn't lose it until the last page. I fell in love with many of the characters and found myself guessing until the end. Without a doubt, I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

The review below is already posted on Goodreads and Amazon.

I was intrigued to read this book because of the author. While I think the story was great, it was a little hard to get into and I wish I had some more answers to the end. Additionally I am not a fan of the point of view it was written in but I do think it was very catching. It was very tense and the ending was great. It was also really sad to see the story end the way it did.

4 out of 5 Stars!

In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead. So, she decides she is going to solve her own murder. Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. At twenty-seven, she is still waiting for her life to begin. She thinks she has all the time in the world. That is, until Halloween night when she is attacked by an unseen intruder. Jet suffered a head injury, one that would trigger a deadly aneurysm within a week. Jet doesn’t think anyone in her circle could have done this, but it seems personal. At most, she has seven days to figure out who killed her with her childhood best friend, Billy.

I was so excited about “Not Quite Dead Yet” by Holly Jackson, since I have read all of Jackson’s previous books. One of my favorite books from 2024 was “The Reappearance of Rachel Price”. I love how she is able to write these easy-to-read, yet complex mystery books. Even though “Not Quite Dead Yet” didn’t live up to that book, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. When I read her book, I feel like I am watching a movie play out in front of me.

I loved our main character, Jet, and her development throughout the story. Even though she was trying to figure out who murdered her, she was still so funny. There were some heartfelt moments as well, ones I don’t want to talk about as I think they could spoil the story. But, I could definitely feel all the emotions while reading this book.

This was a unique plot, with the main character having a count-down until she dies. Yet the medical professional in me was side-eyeing some aspects of the book. I appreciated how Jackson took the time to talk with providers and be as factual as she could, but it just seemed far-fetched to me. Unfortunately, I did figure out the mystery a little earlier in the book before the big reveal. Did I think it ruined the ending? No, but I still love a jaw-dropping moment.

Pick up “Not Quite Dead Yet” by Holly Jackson on July 22nd, 2025!

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam, Holly Jackson, and Netgalley for a digital ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Just wow! This story was captivating all around. It had a bit of romance, suspense and nerve wracking moments.

I enjoyed the premise of the book and I instantly became engaged with Jet’s story. How far would you go to solve your own murder? Holly Jackson’s book starts with the introduction of Jet’s relatives when suddenly she is attacked and will more than likely die in a few days. She is faced with multiple choices, one of those being getting involved in her attack’s investigation. She will not postpone anything anymore and will find out the truth until her body gives up on her.

I devoured this story and alothough I knew what would happen still cried like a baby. It was refreshing story and I truly enjoyed all of it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bantam Random House for allowing me to read the ARC of this book.

What an emotional "who done it". I loved this story. A bit of suspense, tinsy bit of romance, and a lot of what-the-heck! I binged this in a day!

Holly Jackson really does deliver on a clean YA suspense story. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!

*there's some swearing, but I'd like my teenager read this one.

I loved the premise of the book: girl is attacked and, though she lives, she will die as a result of her injuries; until then, she'll solve her murder. I loved the relationship she had with her male best-friend. I liked her complicated relationship with her family and I enjoyed her macabre sense of humor. What didn't land for me, was a connection with her. I can't figure out why it didn't happen, but I never really felt bad for her, even when her time was up. She was flawed and not in an unlovable way, but for some reason, that I can't identify, I just was disconnected. It wasn't a deal breaker for me; I still enjoyed the plot and wanted to keep picking up the book. I would recommend this to others because I think many other people won't have this same complaint.

Got about 22% of the way in and calling it quits. The premise is cool and I like the format it’s told in. But this one is just so slow, I haven’t liked her last few books I think she’s just not for me :(

[4.75] This might be my favorite book by Holly Jackson. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc of this book (yes I’m finishing it the day it came out). This is a story about a woman who is attacked and has only one week to live and she decides to solve her own murder.

The twists and turns of this book had me struggling to put it down. Not to mention that I fell in love with Jet from the very beginning of the book. Her personality jumped off the page and I adored her. The relationship between her and Billy made this book even sweeter and had me sobbing by the end because I knew how it ended, you know from the beginning.

My only gripe was the ending to be fair, but that’s okay. The entire book was worth it even if it didn’t end EXACTLY how I thought it was going to. It doesn’t have to to be good. Thank you again to netgalley, now I sit and wait for the next Holly Jackson book (I’m going to be waiting a while I fear)

How far would you go to solve your own murder?

For the girl who’s catchphrase is “I’ll do it later” (a girl after my own procrastinating heart) Jet is forced to abandon her laidback attitude about life and do something now! In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead, and she’s made it her mission to finally accomplish something. She is going to solve her own murder, before she runs out of time. Follow Jet who is “Not Quite Dead Yet” as she enlists the help of the only person she can truly rule out as a suspect, and their efforts to find her killer.

I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the roller coaster this book put me through, and the emotional damage. Where can I send my therapy bills Miss Jackson? This book had me accusing all the right and all the wrong people. It ripped out my heart as the main character is given only seven days to live at the age of 27, feeling like she’s never achieved anything worth being proud of, always being seen as useless even by her own family. I was crying for her before she was even crying for herself. It had my heart racing as the puzzle pieces kept coming and my brain started putting it all together.

If you want a small town, with twists, turns, family secrets, complicated relationships, characters you love to hate, an endlessly loyal friend, the cutest pupper, and a FMC who quite literally has nothing left to lose then this book is for you. It had all of the appeal of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, but with much more at stake.

When I saw that this book was available to request I didn’t even hesitate. Especially when I noticed it would be her first adult novel. I have loved all of Holly Jackson’s books. So no surprise here, this one lived up to my expectations, I think I have a new favorite.

I was given the honor of receiving an Advanced Readers Copy of this book through NetGalley & Bantam Random House. Thank you to Holly Jackson for making this available allowing me to read this. All opinions are my own.

This is Holly Jackson’s first departure from YA books to write an adult thriller. I will say, I struggled with the FMC, Jet, especially at first, because she definitely reads to me like a high school or college student. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I struggled the entire book long to visualize her as being 27.

That said, buckle up before you read this because it is absolutely filled with twists, right up until the very end. Is it all believable? No, you will undoubtedly have to suspend some belief. But it is such a fun ride and I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.

I mean, what a cool concept—a girl trying to solve her own murder. That’s all I knew going in, no idea how it would manifest, and I highly encourage you to go in blind, too. It’s unique, and Holly’s writing is just so, so good. I’ve only read the first book in the AGGGTM series, so I had forgotten how much I enjoy her writing style.

I do have to say, though, that I was absolutely filled with hatred for Jet’s mom. Anyone else? Like, it’s been a while since I almost put a book down because I couldn’t stand a character so much, but man—she almost accomplished it. I’m glad I didn’t, but I’m just letting you know that she’s the worst.

The ending is abrupt, but will make you feel all the things. This whole book definitely has the potential to make you emotional or to even make you cry. Obviously this is not typical for a thriller, so just be aware.

This is a good one, and definitely worth picking up!

My thoughts 💭
This book follows Jet A girl who is “not quite dead yet” and she has one week to solve her own murder. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone but this was a very good book. The characters, the plot and the twist were perfectly written. Billy is the best friend everyone needs, I loved his character so much. Just when I thought I had it figured out, to realize I was way off. The ending… OMG it was not what I was expecting at all but Holly Jackson did not disappoint. 🤯

This is a MUST READ if you love psychological thrillers. 🔨

Thank you @netgalley, @randomhouse and @hojay92 for gifting me a eARC. 🤗

Thank you to NetGalley, Bantam, and Ms. Jackson for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

I never really got into “A Good Girl’s Guide” but “Not Quite Dead Yet” was a FUN ride. Margaret Mason (she prefers to be called Jet, thank you very much) has 7 days to solve her own murder before she dies. Despite not achieving very much in her life so far, she’s determined that this week will be the week that she finally Gets Something Done: and that something is identifying her own killer.

Jet is brutally attacked after the town Halloween festival and left for dead in her parents’ house. She survives, but is projected to die of an impending brain aneurism (made inoperable due to a preexisting medical condition) within the week. She teams up with her childhood friend Billy and throws all her inhibitions to the wind; after all, what will it matter? She’ll be dead in a week! The race against time to solve the mystery has a special poignancy due to her imminent death. I hoped against hope that the doctors would be wrong; it's so enjoyable to see feisty Jet finally saying everything she’s ever wanted to say and doing as she pleases. I don't want to give too much away - with reviews of mysteries, it's so easy to spoil the excitement - so I won't say anything else about the plot, but there are PLENTY of twists and turns.

The mystery itself is well-plotted; it’s hard for me to be objective since I’m NOT the type of reader who likes to solve mysteries myself (I’d rather be taken on the ride). Jet’s wholehearted devotion to accomplishing just ONE thing in her life is so moving. I felt so happy for her and yet so sad at the same time.

Overall, I liked this so much that now I’m considering giving A Good Girl another chance. Easily a 4 star read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"The #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder—now a hit Netflix series—returns with her first novel for adults: a twisty thriller about a young woman trying to solve her own murder. In seven days Jet Mason will be dead."
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for this incredible ARC!
Wow! This was incredible. Even if the ending will leave your heart full of sadness, it will also have you sharing this book with others as a Must-Read!! Holly Jackson is notorious for her book "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder", but this will leave you out of breath after the hills of this roller coaster! Each page turn offers a step closer to one of the biggest suspense thrillers this year. The sad thing is the main character Jet is only 27 years old and has 7 days to live. She was brutally attacked and left to die. A bone fragment will pierce her artery causing a deadly rupture, but she has a fierce determination to find her killer before then. It will go that fast as you read and your heart races for her. Even though the ending is inevitable and heart-wrenching, you will cheer for the protagonist and her best friend Billy who saved her life.
Her family is one of the wealthiest in Woodstock, Vermont. You have plenty of time to hate on them and help her steer away from the people who made their money by sacrificing people's homes and allow gentrification to weed them out. A lot of suspects, even her own family.
As I play catch up with all the books I have read in the last two weeks, it might seem an overload of reviews. Vacation has become just that🌴 read & relax!! Now back to work!!

sending my therapy bill to one Miss Holly Jackson 😭

Holly Jackson is one of my favorite authors & I was so excited to read her first adult thriller!! It has such a unique & creative premise - I’ve never read a thriller quite like this one.

I’ll be honest, it took me a while to get into but it really picks up around the halfway point & then I couldn’t put it down! I’m starting to think that might just be a me problem though, because I’ve said that about a lot of books recently 🤪
I also loved the dark humor & the main character, Jet! I was kind of surprised how attached I got to her.

All of the twists surprised me and were so well done, as was the ending! The ending of this book destroyed me, in the best way 😭
If you like unique and twisty thrillers, I’d definitely recommend Not Quite Dead Yet! It’s out now!

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the advanced copy! ✨

Holly Jackson’s Not Quite Dead Yet is a sharp, emotionally layered thriller that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. This is Jackson’s first foray into adult fiction, but fans of her YA novels will feel right at home—her signature style is all over this: twisty plot, vivid characters, and an ending that lingers long after the last page.

The premise is instantly compelling: Jet Mason survives a brutal attack only to be told she has a deadly aneurysm and just days left to live. With time running out, she teams up with her childhood friend Billy to hunt down her would-be killer. What follows is a fast-paced, suspenseful unraveling of secrets, lies, and buried betrayals.

Jet is a standout protagonist—tough, resourceful, and deeply human. Her vulnerability and quiet moments of fear are just as compelling as her fierce determination to solve her own case. Billy is equally well-drawn, adding heart and loyalty to the mix. Their friendship anchors the story beautifully, adding emotional depth to the high-stakes investigation.

While some suspension of disbelief is required—Jet’s ability to function after such a severe injury might raise eyebrows—the emotional intensity and relentless pacing make it easy to overlook. Jackson also does an excellent job keeping the reader guessing; even seasoned thriller fans may find themselves surprised by the final reveal.

Not Quite Dead Yet is a memorable read—part murder mystery, part emotional reckoning. It’s gripping, heartfelt, and another strong addition to Jackson’s growing list of hits.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
