If you loved the movies Clue and Knives Out, PLEASE PICK UP THIS BOOK!
What a creepy, insane, jaw-dropping thriller. The vibes of this story are absolutely perfect for the -ber months. But for me, this was a great break from all the summer romance books!
The foreshadowing in this book was incredible. Everything felt symbolic, and the plot twist was unbelievable as always.
As someone who doesn’t read thrillers—I recommend this book!
Thank you @netgalley for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review!

Jet Mason comes home from her town's Halloween Fair and then the next thing she knows is she's getting wacked in the the head. She wakes up in the hospital to find out that she was killed...but not quite. She's still going to die, but not for 7 more days. Will it be just enough time for her to solve her own murder?
I thought this book had such an intriguing and unique plot. There were so many twists and turns throughout that just made me want more. I did find Jet to be a bit annoying at times. When she is trying to go over the events that happened before her attempted murder, she comes up with things that are obvious first thoughts a detective would ask, but in the story did not. That didn't seem very realistic to me.
I was surprised to see that Jet has Polycystic Kidney Disease or PKD. I just donated a kidney for my best friend who also has it. Kinda neat to see it represented in a book like this!
The ending also had a rather different end then what I was expecting, in several ways. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book. It was fun, fast paced and thrilling.

Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson might be her best book yet!! If you liked a Good Girl’s Guide To Murder than this is a must read.
Set in Woodstock Vermont, Jet, the 27 year old daughter of a wealthy family, is attacked by an unknown intruder in her home. Suffering a catastrophic head injury, the doctors only give her a week to live before a brain aneurism kills her. With only seven days to live, Jet is going to use them to find her killer.
A fast paced thriller set around families, secrets, and the past. This book will make you swoon, cry, and hope for a miracle while questioning everyone involved.
Thank you Bantam for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

HOLY GOD. I mean I knew Holly Jackson was good but I didn't know she could do all of that!!! A side note and huge huge thank you to NetGalley, PRH and Holly Jackson for the advanced copy. I read through this entire book in a night. I stayed up till 3 AM because I just had to know what was going to happen next.
This was such a fresh and unique set-up, I mean, how many books have you read where an alive individual solves their own murder? Her mind is crazy for that one. My mind was going a mile a minute trying to figure everything out before the end. I called a good amount of the twists and turns but when we got to the last 10-20% my mouth was stuck in a permanent slack jaw.
I loved Jet's determination to do everything that she could, and I adored Billy's willingness to help. Honestly some of the characters that I've found myself able to root for consistently. Billy singing.... Jet's humor... Yea sign me up every time. I found the Mason family's dynamic so intriguing with every layer of the story that we pulled back. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and I have an itch to pick up some more Holly Jackson after finishing this one. I did cry exactly once reading this book, and you know what. It's just not fair.
Holly Jackson I will be billing you for the therapy I need after finishing this one. But consider me sat for anything this woman ever writes.

THE ENDING. THE ENDING. THE ENDING! I was NOT expecting that ending, at all. Throughout this book, Jet, is trying to find out who murdered her, breaking laws (literally), questioning her own suspects. All while having her childhood best friend along side her. I thought I knew who it was but I was absolutely WRONG! Everything that unfolds throughout this story just makes you wonder and think, do we really know the truth or is everything fabricated to make life “easier”? Truly a jaw dropping ending.

4.5⭐️
So thankful I received this ARC!
Impossible to put down from start to finish and such an intense concept! The pacing of the book was great, I was invested in Jet’s journey and the stories unfolding around her, and the entire book kept me on the edge of my seat.
I only took off a 1/2 star because there were times that I felt the “reveals” were extremely obvious but the characters were driving me crazy by guessing any scenario except the correct one. 😅
Loved this book and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a fast-paced thriller/who-done-it read!

Despite not being the biggest mystery reader, I've really enjoyed Holly Jackson's previous books, particularly A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. I wasn't sure if I'd like Jackson's debut adult quite as much since I can be a scaredy cat, but I adored Not Quite Dead Yet.
Margaret "Jet" Mason is an exceptionally likeable main character who you can't help but root for as she attempts to solve her own murder (before she dies in a week!) with the help of her very sweet childhood best friend Billy. Many potential suspects were introduced, including those closest to Jet. The family dynamics were tricky but so juicy to read.
Jackson masterfully built up the suspense and unraveled the story to a satisfying end without being too predictable. Not Quite Dead Yet was unputdownable and I cannot wait to talk about it with other readers.

I was disappointed by this book. I loved Jackson's "Good Girl's Guide" series but this book lacked charm. The characters were unlikeable and the writing was clunky.

'Go find new stars, Billy.'
This book is probably my favorite book of the entire year so far. I mean it. It made me laugh, it made me sit on the edge of my seat, it made me cry, and then it made me ugly-sob. And I'm not ashamed to admit it!

An easy 6☆
This book follows Margaret "Jet" Mason and her best friend Billy as they try to solve the mystery of who tried to kill her on the night of Halloween, 2025. But they only have one week. A bone fragment is putting pressure on a certain spot on Jet's brain, and it will soon cause an aneurysm, which means she only has one week to live...and solve her own murder. Together, Billy and Jet uncover one secret another. Things they would have normally brushed to the side are now becoming clues as the big pictures unfold. Can they really trust anyone?
You can really see Jet and Billy bonding and growing closer together throughout this book. And it really breaks your heart, knowing that Jet will be dead in a matter of days.

So many twists and turns. Had me audibly gasping every 5 seconds, if I'm being honest. I guessed who Luke's real father was and I guessed who Jet's killer was correctly when Billy and Jet were trying to figure out who Luke's real father was. But even though I guessed it, I was still flabbergasted because NO WAY HOLLY JACKSON JUST DID THAT! She's such an incredible author, don't even get me started.
I loved the layers and the whole broken family dynamic, despite how hard it was to have to read about Jet going through it all. But the secrets of this family...like dang. Absolutely dang.

Holly Jackson has once again put together such an incredible group of characters, making this book all the more better! Absolutely mind-blowing, the depth to all of these characters, and the development of said characters throughout the story is so incredible.
-Jet
Such an amazing character. She stayed strong throughout solving her murder and knowing her death was creeping closer to her every minute. And I so appreciated when she broke down after the fire. Because's she's human. And when she realized it you just want to give her a hug. Because death is scary. It's really, really scary. But I truly admire her bravery and determination that whole week. She's a wonderful character.
-Billy
Such a sweet guy. Oh. My. Gosh. 'For Her,' made me laugh the first time, and sob the second. I love him so much, and I truly do think the world needs more people like Billy, because there's no way someone as perfect and loving and caring and forgiving as him actually exists. And the way he held Jet when she was passing moved me to tears, and then ugly-sobbing. Because even though he knew he was innocent, and he didn't want Jet to die hating him, he still lied to her and told her that he was the one who killed her. Just so she could have that feeling of being proud of herself and accomplishing something. But she didn't believe him, and he just kept trying to make her feel better. He loved her his whole life, and he only got a few seconds to treasure her loving him back. That actually broke my heart. Billy deserves so much more, and he's probably my favorite character if I'm being honest. And this scene was so bittersweet:
'"I think life is about finding your person, your one person." He paused. "And you better make sure that they really love you back, so they don't just pack their bags one night and abandon you. They have to love you back. That's it, I think."'
-Luke
Buddy needs therapy, but buddy also needs to get psychologically evaluated, because I'm more than sure that something's wrong up there.
-Sophia
Literally what is wrong with her. She makes me sick. And Jet's letter to her made me laugh so hard even though I was crying.
-Scott Mason
Someone give him a hug, please and thank you.
-Dianne Mason
You're a terrible mother, a horrible person, and you belong in a jail cell.
-Jack Finney
If you know, you know. He deserved what he got.
-Reggie
I DON'T EVEN CARE THAT HE WAS A DOG! Reggie was the best character in the whole book. He's gonna miss his Mommy, and that breaks my heart. The thing that made me cry the hardest reading this book was Jet's letter to him:
'Dear Reggie,
I know you're a dog, and I know you can't read.
But I couldn't go without answering that one question I always ask you.
Who's a good boy?
It's you, Reg.
You're the good boy. Take care of Mom and Dad for me.
Love,
Jet xx'
Tell me that literally didn't just break your heart.

Please read this book. Please, please, please. Please. And I know I may have scared you off because I cried a LOT. But here's what so incredible about Holly. She knows how her books affect people. The first few lines in her acknowledgments of this book:
'...And breathe. Sorry, I know that was intense. I still find myself feeling sad for Jet (and I made her up) so I'm sorry for inflicting that trauma on you too. But I hope you don't just remember the sadness, I hope you remember her strength, and channel it when you need to. I certainly have this part year. WWJD (What Would Jet Do). So, my first thank you must go to you, reader. Thank you for letting me live my dream, telling stories for a living. It is bananas—truly—and there are no words for how grateful I am (and I know 𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘴 of words). But most of all, thank you for trusting me with your time; I hope you loved every minute of it.'
Holly Jackson truly loves and cares about her readers, and if I've learned anything from reading this book, it's that the right authors truly know how to hit you where it hurts, and then make it hurt a little less.

Well this book wrecked me, in the best way. Holly Jackson delivers another fantastic thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from page 1. The concept of this book fascinated me, and I loved all the family dynamics. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine - Bantam for an advanced copy.

Holly Jackson did a great job making me like the main character, Jet, and I was instantly invested in what was going to happen to her. While I knew where Jet’s storyline would ultimately take her, I still held onto hope and was still captivated to solve the mystery with her. I didn’t expect the ending to be as heart-wrenching as it was but it was worth it. Jackson credits a doctor in the afterword for his medical expertise, which I was surprised to read since I found myself suspending logic a few times! Go in with an open mind and I think you will love it!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy!

Jet is attacked on Halloween night. Someone wanted her dead, but she survived. Except not really. A piece of bone is somewhere it shouldn’t be and will cause her to die in a week. That means she only has a week to solve her own murder.

Woooowwww. I have to be honest, I was ALMOST on a Holly Jackson ban. Her last few YA books just wrap themselves up in the absolute least satisfying way. Now, this book is about adults, which I was very thrown off about at first because as far as I knew she only wrote YA. But you know what….she can do both. She wrote adults very very well. Jet is so chaotic but you still love her. The story is so heartbreaking, the main character having 7ish days to live makes the whole thing sad because you get SO attached. But it also is hilarious, suspenseful, and fast paced. I will say I thought I had it figured out and I was ready to be really mad at Holly again, but she did mix up the end in a good way. I was very pleasantly surprised at this book and Holly Jackson is back on my must read list.

Wow. I went into this knowing I would love it, because I love everything Holly Jackson touches, but this may just be her best yet. Jackson’s debut adult novel had all of her signature amazing suspense, characters, and twists throughout and I didn’t ever want to put it down.
What really made this book a hit for me was Jet. She was everything I would want in a FMC solving her own (attempted) murder, and I really saw myself in her—there was literally a point where I made a joke and I turned the page to see she had made the same one—which just made the emotional connection to her stronger. She is fierce and determined but still has such realistic flaws and expectations of herself that made me feel for her so deeply until the very last page. I’m going to think about her for a while.
Aside from the amazing main character, all of the side characters are fascinating in their own right and in classic Jackson style I found myself pointing fingers at each of them at one point or another. I never really knew which way this would go, and I loved going through the investigation alongside Jet while getting to see her thought process. The final reveal had me turning pages quickly and I didn’t want to end (even though I was crying. Again, signature for Holly Jackson to make me cry.)
Overall, this was such a satisfying and entertaining read. I really felt the rush of the deadline for Jet to complete her investigation, which made it a fast-paced thrilling experience and I really recommend this book for anyone looking for a new mystery/thriller!! It was addicting and I’m already planning on reading it again to see what clues I missed the first time.
*Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for this ARC!*

First, thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine for gifting me with a free ARC of this book.
This is what I assume the first adult novel by Holly Jackson, and it did not disappoint. The unique premise drew me to the book. The first half of the book was a bit of a slow burn, like her other books, but the pacing picked up in the second half. I enjoyed the mystery, liked Jet as a main character, and was rooting for her to finish what she set out to do. It's hard to explicitly say there was another character I adored without spoiling the book, so I won't say the name, but I had a good time watching how the story unfold, and Jet was able to learn the lesson she needed while doing something as dangerous and wild as trying to solve her own murder.
The mystery itself was written well, though I was able to deduct who the killer was a bit early on. I enjoyed her writing style, the way she structured her paragraphs, arranged her words for it to be Jet's voice as opposed to Pip (her other book series). But what really moved me and made me give the book a four-star was the emotional ending. It tugged a string in my heart, and I was quite a hollow soul after the book ended.
If I were to state one thing that really ticked me off about this book, that would be the amount of "sniff" present throughout the book. LOL. "He sniffed", "she sniffed". Too many people sniffed. Other than that, I liked the story and would recommend it to any fans of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

I have never read anything from Jackson before despite their robust following, and I was pleasantly blown away by how delicious this book was. Fast paced, great banter, unguessable twists, and so much FUN. I laughed, I cried, I got everything I want in a thriller. Some people are going to be upset at the “unhappy” ending, but I thought it was an excellent artistic choice, and stayed true to the core of the novel. If Jet had lived in the end, it would have almost been a betrayal of the readers trust. My only notes are that I felt the denouement could use more, the ending was shocking but I still feel it was rushed. An extra chapter from Billy’s POC or even a few more paragraphs from him to let the reader exhale would have made this a perfect novel. All in all, a really great ride, and a wonderful summer thriller.

Whoooo boy I'm not sure how to review this one. I was so intrigued throughout the entire book, there was no point in which I was bored or felt like it dragged on, which is rare for a mystery book. I usually have a few points where I'm like "okay lets get to the point already", but this one kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time. But I can't say I had a good time reading this. It's quite depressing, and very hard to read at times. It really messed with my anxiety at times as well.
We are reading from the point of view of our main character - Jet, who is actively dying this whole book. In the very beginning of the book, Jet is attacked and hit in the back of the head in her home. When she wakes up in the hospital, she is told that the attack damaged her skull to the point that it would cause an aneurysm in no more than a week. So Jet is now living with the knowledge that she will die in 1 week, and she's trying to solve her own murder in her remaining time.
Jet goes through stages of grief for herself in this book, and it is definitely hard to read and experience.
The mystery aspect was really well done, although I wasn't *too* shocked by the reveal. There were a few times throughout reading that I thought I might know who it was.
Overall I think this was a very well written book, but I recommend checking trigger warnings and being sure you are in the right head space before starting this.

This is my first Holly Jackson-- our high school readers love her, the books are constantly checked out, so I figured I'd take the opportunity to read one when it came up as an available ARC in NetGalley.
I've been reading lots of adult fiction, so it took a minute to divest myself of that cloak and take up the young adult mantle. As expected, the plot starts thick and thickens even more; this is a fast-paced murder mystery and adventure, and I can see why our students love Jackson books: she's very good at sustaining suspense. In this novel, the heroine Jet is out to catch her own murderer. She's been attacked with an intent to kill, but survived against all odds. Jet is a scrappy, stubborn and resourceful person who, despite a serious and terminal head injury, is able to do a surprising amount of sleuthing and digging (remember the audience) thanks to her best friend Billy and sometimes reluctant support from her family and community. I like how Jet's family and friends have to fall under her scrutiny. Jackson is good at framing characters with questionable motives.
I look forward to reading other books by Holly Jackson when I can get my hands on them.
Thank you to Bantam and NetGalley for the ARC. I am not compensated for reviews.

I love Holly Jackson so much!! I was so excited she's coming out with an adult thriller! The premise of this story is amazing and I love that there is a time limit for her to figure out who is trying to killer her, it just raised the stakes so much more. Great twisty thriller that you should 100% read!

This is such a twisty thriller that keeps you turning the pages until you’ve read it all! Jet has days to live - and to figure out who tried to kill her. Does it get any better than that?

Thank you to Random House - Ballantine and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback. Unfortunately this book is a mess. The opening is all over the place, and the author just info dumps all over the reader. There are too many characters introduced with no defining characters to keep track of, and I immediately disliked the book and DNFed it
