3.75 stars. As the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in town, Jet Mason is known for her tendency to procrastinate and her inability to follow through with anything. When she’s brutally attacked in her home on Halloween night, she’s lucky to even wake up afterward. Unfortunately, the head injuries she sustained are fatal and her doctor predicts she’ll suffer an aneurysm within a week. With only days left, Jet is determined to finish the last thing she’ll ever do- solve her own murder.
This was such a clever premise and the race-against-time element kept the tension high from start to finish! It was an addictive book and I just loved Jet’s character—she was determined, sharp, and sassy. And her relationship with her childhood best friend, Billy, was just so sweet. With everyone a suspect, friends, families, neighbors, etc, the mystery of who tried to kill Jet kept me hooked until the end.
As the story unfolded and Jet’s condition deteriorated, there was a feeling of dread knowing what was inevitably coming. Yet I appreciated Jet’s perspective on it all— her reflections on her life brought depth to the story, with themes of regret and “what ifs” playing a powerful role for both her and the other characters. This book does require readers to suspend disbelief at times, but if you’re okay with that, it’s an enjoyable read.
If you’re looking for a book filled with secrets, betrayals, and a woman's relentless quest to solve her own murder, consider reading this one!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an electronic ARC of this book!

Wow!!! What a crazy story! I absolutely loved Jet and my heart broke for her over and over again. Such a unique twist on a traditional thriller. Jet js 27 years old and now has one week to solve her own murder. With lots of drama, twists and secrets this one is sure to leave a last impression.

I could not put this book down. Such a fast paced thriller with the most unique storyline! How many thrillers involve the FMC attempting to solve their own murder?!
This story follows Jet, a 27 year old woman who is still trying to figure out what to do with her life. That is until she’s attacked & wakes up days later to hear the news that’s she’s survived, but unfortunately only has a week left to live. Jet is a hilarious FMC! Her witty comebacks had me giggling multiple times which was perfect to break up the heaviness of everything going on.
Since I’ve read most of Holly’s books, I was expecting a couple twists but truly had the hardest time figuring out what they were! Holly always does a great job keeping the plot twists unpredictable which makes her thrillers that much more enjoyable! I highly recommend you pick this one up! It will be the perfect fall thriller!
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!

Holly Jackson's adult debut is about 27-year-old, Jet, spending the last days before her impending death by solving her own untimely murder. As in she is the one who was murdered. I loved this premise, and Jackson did not drop the ball. From start to finish, I was in this story waiting to see what happens next to this dead girl walking protagonist.
Not only was this story about a mystery, but there was also family drama that had to delt with. When you have a choice between life and death, do you choose what your family wants? Even if survival is not 100% likely?
There were just so many choices Jackson made when writing this that I very much admire her for doing. Like having the main character die. Not giving them some magical out just at the nick of time because she fell in love. Speaking of love, I was so worried that Billy was going to wind up as the one who "done it". I am so glad wasn't, I got very attached to Billy and how he took care of Jet. Because she really needed to be taken care of.
This book is perfect for those of us adults who loved "Good Girls Guide to Murder" and wanted to see Jackson write something grittier. This is also just a really good thriller in general for thriller fans. Since this book takes place in late October-November this is also a perfect fall book.

I spent a satisfying day reading Not Quite Dead Yet. I was here for every twist and turn, and I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong! I'm excited for folks to get a chance to read it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ // ARC Review
I jumped on this book as soon as I could because I’ve loved Holly Jackson’s other work, especially A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and this one definitely gives off those same vibes.
It’s technically adult, but honestly felt more YA (which I’m totally fine with, since I love both). What really threw me, though, was how Jet, the main character, just casually walks out of the hospital after a major head injury… like girl, are you okay?? And then she immediately starts trying to solve her own murder?? Wild 😂 Oh and did I mention she only has 7 days to live?! No pressure or anything 😅
That said, Jackson delivers with her signature twists and turns. I really enjoyed this one overall. Thank you @netgalley for the ARC and the chance to share my honest thoughts!

Gripping. Tense. Unputdownable.
One of my teens is a major Holly Jackson fan and has been telling me to check out her novels for a while now. This was my first time reading the author and I loved it! Jackson usually writes for the YA crowd, but this is an adult novel with an older protagonist. Jet the MC at times felt a little younger than her mid-twenties but she had a lot going on. Everyone copes differently and I understood her because I cope in similar fashion by making light of dark situations. It was such a page turner! The idea of a woman solving her own murder was a premise I couldn't pass up and it delivered. Not only was the premise brilliant the way the mystery unfolds was riveting. The tension in the atmosphere increased as her days to live ticked away.
Jet survives a brutal attack on Halloween night. However, after being bludgeoned there's damage to her skull that will result in a lethal aneurysm. The specialist gives her roughly seven days to live. Jet sees this as seven days to uncover who killed her. She's the type of person who usually procrastinates and this is a challenge she wants to see through to the end. With the help of her childhood best friend Billy, she dives into secrets, alibis, and motives.
With death as a certainty, can Jet solve her own murder before the clock runs out?
I picked the culprit out early on, but it was more of a feeling I got while reading. I wondered if I was wrong because I couldn't nail down a motive in my mind. The countdown of her death looms in such a way that the maintains the intense pacing. Each moment feels deliberate. No wasted words. What I couldn't wrap my mind around was her family's behavior. Someone you love only has a week to live and it's just business as usual?! It was weird. However, it didn't affect my enjoyment of the book.
I read this in two sittings. It probably would've been one, but I started it at night and had trouble sleeping because I couldn't stop thinking about it. I don't know how this stacks up with her YA novels because I haven't read them, but this particular novel is fabulous.
If you love thrillers this is one to add.
Thank you to Random House | Ballantine for providing an ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jet is attacked in her home but from behind. Even though she survives the head injury, she can't tell who attacked her, an attack that will cost her life as it caused an aneurysm, giving her only a week to find out who killed her.
This isn't a bad book, but I recommend you read this as if it were YA. The main character has the same energy as a teenager, and common sense isn't so present (how does she have brain surgery and then she's free to walk around as she wants? Doesn't a complex surgery like that take its toll on your body? Among other cases). It's a fun story, but the recurrent jokes about death made me too impatient to enjoy it so much. At least it's not the angsty YA type of YA-like novel. The pacing is also good, we don't get stuck in one single problem. This does get in the way because of the number of characters, so for a few reveals I had to go back and find out which character they were talking about. Unfortunately, the answers to the mysteries it raises are predictable to a point it made me anxious that they wouldn't get to it sooner.
This was my first Holly Jackson, and despite the issues above, the moment I realized a lot of it was due to it being basically a YA with an adult for main character, I could enjoy it more. It's a quick and light read, despite the theme and so many sad happenings. I can't say I liked the ending, but it was fitting of how it was going, so it wasn't a surprise. I may read more books by this author in the future, but not the ones for adults.
Honest review based on an ARC provided by Netgalley. Many thanks to the publisher for this opportunity.

NOT QUITE DEAD YET was fun, mostly because it was interesting to see Holly Jackson leap beyond the boundaries of YA to take things just a bit further, a bit grittier, a bit wilder. I haved loved Jackson's books for a while, so reading this ARC was a wonderful experience for me.

excuse me.? did i technically guess the main person? yeah.. but besides that the family drama, and all the other plot twist that happens throughout is wildddd. i missed hollys writing soo much and the letters near the end literally broke me. how does she even come up with these ideas? never fails to write a 5 star book for me. overall, LOVED this with my whole heart.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars.
This book has a very similar vibe to Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Main characters just repeatedly committing crimes without consequences and police doing a very shitty job.
Writing felt a bit childish and the main characters got on my nerves at times. I also wasn’t super satisfied with the way things wrapped up, felt like there were too many unanswered questions.
That being said, I rannn through it cause I wanted to know what happened so it was an easy read.

This book is one wild ride. Right away you are taken on a journey where Jet is attacked in a manner that is so violent that it is shocking she survived. Sadly, her survival comes at a cost. It will not last long probably less then a week. Jet is then dead set on trying to figure out who killed her before she dies. This book is filled with highs and lows and secrets galore. Readers will be swept away and trying to figure out what really happened along side Jet and rooting for her to figure it out be for her unescapable demise.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

1.5 - 2 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Holly Jackson, and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Unfortunately, I struggled to find anything I enjoyed about this book. It was a hate-read by the end — I pushed through hoping the twist would make it worth it, but it didn’t.
First, this isn’t adult fiction. Despite the 27-year-old protagonist, it reads exactly like YA — same voice, same tone, just with more F-bombs. It felt like the main character from A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (which I liked!) was aged up on paper but not in personality or behavior.
The book is told in first-person POV from someone with a week to live due to a terminal brain aneurysm, and there should’ve been a major content warning for that. The narrative leaned so heavily on the FMC’s sarcasm about dying that it quickly became repetitive, emotionally exhausting, and honestly, pretty triggering. Lines like “why bother doing X, I’m dying in three days” were on constant repeat. It wasn’t darkly funny or sharp — just frustrating and bleak.
The pacing didn’t help. This story takes place over seven days but somehow stretches across 400 pages. It felt bloated and unnecessarily long — easily 150 pages too much. And the twist? I found it sloppy, illogical, and maddening.
The concept had potential, but the execution missed the mark. I wanted to like this so badly… but I didn’t.

The premise was so interesting - after being bludgeoned almost to death, a woman has a week to solve her own murder before the aneurysm in her brain, from the attack, pops. It was extremely addicting and so fast paced. Although this is supposed to be an adult thriller it does read a little younger. The ending was a little bit out there and I’m not sure how strong the motivations were but it wrapped it all up in a neat little bow!

I have a recommendation for you! This is releasing soon but I was lucky to get an advance copy to read! I always enjoy this author's books. She writes YA mystery/thriller. They are easy to read and always fun.
This story stars a character that is solving her own murder. She's not a ghost, no paranormal. How is this possible? Pick it up and find out!
Did you like "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder"? Well this is the same flavor with different characters. A young girl sleuth that has to break rules to solve a crime.
Did you like the "unlikable" but in actuality totally hilarious MC in "Listen for the Lie"? You will love this sarcastic, crabby female MC in this book then too. Witty and funny!
So go to the bookstore and preorder this one!

This book was amazing! Holly Jackson’s writing never fails to amaze me.
This books follows Jet, one night she gets attacked and wakes up in a hospital. Only to be told that she’s gonna be dead in 7 days. Throughout the week, her and her childhood best friend Billy try to figure out who killed her and why. Also while discovering secrets about people close to her.

Holly Jackson is an auto buy author for me. She always tells a great suspenseful tale and this certainly did not fall short. I read it in one sitting. I will absolutely recommend this book for my students and buy a copy for my classroom for students to borrow.

: ̗̀➛ “a dead woman walking. and dead woman had no use for fear”

this book was insane. the whole premise is just something you’d never expect but i was hooked. the storyline was super interesting and i loved the idea of jet solving her own murder.
although, as an intro to adult fiction i was expecting way more but this is not an adult book. i’m sorry to say it but the only thing distinguishing this book from her other works was the increase in swearing (the f word was used over 150 times, which is insane in my opinion). more risks had to be taken because as good as dead was darker than this. the writing also felt a little weaker in this than in her previous works
i have a couple other negative remarks. firstly, i feel like i’ve read enough hj books to say this but the fmcs kind of feel like copy and paste to me. another thing is the plot twists have grown a little predictable, she does always find a way to make it surprising by adding a lot of other elements (ex: more characters are involved in ways you’d never expect) but by a certain point in the book it was obvious to me who the killer was (didn’t figure out all the right reasons but my guess was right). finally, the ending felt so rushed to me and i would’ve really loved for it to be more developed because it felt quite underwhelming (i was sad though don’t get me wrong).
i didn’t connect to the characters as much as i would have liked too, jet definitely grew on me throughout the story and knowing how it was gonna end was heartbreaking (i deluded myself into thinking i was gonna get a happy ending). billy. oh billy. he was so sweet ☹️ i actually feel so bad for him and jet wdym you didn’t know this boy loved you i need you to open your eyes (it’s a little late for that now). holly jackson will never let her couples get the happy endings they deserve
overall it was a good read, between a 3 and a 4 because it was fun and i enjoyed it but i’ll move on you know?
ೃ⁀➷ thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I’ve liked some other books by this author so I was excited to get this first adult book by her but it just didn’t do it for me. It seemed to drag a lot and I just wasn’t invested with the story. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for read and review

Jet Mason can either have surgery with a less than 10% survival rate or die in 7 days but solve who murdered her during that time period.
The exactly 7 day death situation threw me off and to have the medical issues but be able to solve who injured you… and in turn murdered you. Crazy. But hey! It’s a book and sometimes things can get a stretch.
Either way- holly Jackson is a great writer!
Her adult debut did not disappoint but wasn’t on my stellar list. I could give or take.
Easy and quick read!!
Big thank you to netgalley and random house publishing group for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
