ARC - 5/5⭐️ one of Holly Jackson’s best novels!!! 💙😱 Not Quite Dead Yet is a page turning thriller that tells the story of Jet who is attempting to solve her own murder just days before she is said to die after being attacked. I was on the edge of my seat as I followed Jet on this emotional journey. Although, Jet’s sense of humor was spot on; her quick remarks were hilarious and brought a lighthearted aspect to this novel that was much needed in my opinion.

There’s so much that I wanted to say about the last 10% of this book but I want to keep this as a “spoiler free” review..so just know that I was sobbing and I did not see any of that coming. My jaw was on the floor 😭. Holly Jackson really ripped my heart out and stomped all over it.

The pacing and flow of the story was so well done. Holly Jackson’s ability to tell a story is just incredible and this one felt new and exciting. Unlike anything else I’ve read before. I really hope she writes more adult novels because she aced this one! Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC 💙

I really enjoyed this thriller. I thought the main two characters were loveable and I was rooting for them. I did guess the ending, which was a bit of a bummer, but overall. I thought it was well-written and an engaging story that for the most part kept me guessing at certain parts of the book. I will be recommending this book to others.

Crying, Screaming. Throwing up. Holly Jackson.... This book did NOT disappoint. AHHHHHHH!!!!!! Thank you Net Galley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for the ARC. This book was a knockout. I couldn't put it down. I refused. I needed to know what happened to our girl, Jet, and I needed to know who did this?! I thought I had it figured out. Did I? NOT EVEN CLOSE. The twists and turns of this novel were so good and unexpected. I found myself screaming in frustration and disbelief. I cannot wait for the world to get their hands on this! If you loved Holly Jackson's other books? You will LOVE this one. 10/10. READ IT.

This book was really good, it took me a while to get into but at about 50% I got hooked. The plot twist was really good and not what I expected. I also really liked the romance happening between jet and billy and the plot point about Jets brother having a different dad.

Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson
Published on: 22 July 2025

what the fuck was that ending?? i suspected everyone but THAT PERSON BECAUSE HUHHHH
I kid you not, I could not stop reading. I started reading this morning and I HAD to finish it before I could do anything else.
Miss Jackson has done it again and girl???? Your endings make me question my whole existence. and this one, especially this one. And i cant believe people are saying they didn’t like it at first cz i was immediately pulled in.

Now for the plot. Jet is a 27 year old girl, whose favourite catchphrase is “later”. she thought she had all the time in the world until on one Halloween night, someone decided to murder her. but she didn’t die. she had seven more days before she actually died. Jet decided to solve her own murder because the police are always useless in HJ’s universe. Jet needed the help tho, she couldn’t do it alone because of her brain injury, thats where Billy comes in!!! Billy is “just Billy” but fails to mention he’s poor and sweet (Jet’s words not mine lol), he’s Jet’s childhood best friend and decided to be there for Jet in her last week.

5⭐️
It’s even more than 5 stars but thats the max alas. i highly recommend you to read this book, it’s one of the best murder mystery books ever!!! and just like any HJ book, there’s tiny 🤏🏼 spark of romance (even less than tiny).

Thank you so much Holly Jackson and Netgally for this arc!!! So grateful i got to read it early🫶🏼

God, my heart is broken AGAIN! AS USUAL!

There are two things Holly Jackson knows how to do incredibly well: weave together several elements into a compelling mystery, and tell an absolutely gutting love story. The mystery here worked very well, but the premise itself is really what makes this book unique— Jet is such an incredible character and the way she thinks and acts during what she knows is her last week alive is so captivating. There were pieces I was proud I had picked up on, even if they ended up being red herrings, and the thing I was terrified of the entire book was eventually addressed, which I actually really loved. To no one’s surprise, I adored Billy, but that’s to be expected. Unfortunately, to be completely honest, I don’t think the last chapter really works, but I understand why it had to be done that way. I just think it disrupted some of the flow for an entire week to pass— like what if the confrontation had happened that same night? I know it might have been a stretch to pull all of it together, but there was a way to make it make sense and we would have kept the momentum.

All-in-all, unsurprisingly good. It’s a testament to how Holly Jackson writes YA that this doesn’t feel that different. I’ll never listen to Stick Season the same way again.

I went in thinking that Jet was already dead and trying to solve her murder. She in fact was not dead but alive. Granted she could die with her injuries but isn’t fully guaranteed to. Also she checked herself out of the hospital with severe head trauma and her doctor just let her. I’m sorry but what in the malpractice. This book didn’t hit the way I hoped it would. I DNFed at 15% for the above reasons.

Thank you for an advance copy of this thriller. I really enjoyed this lots of twists and surprises. A young woman is basically trying to solve her own murder that will happen in a weeks time...This makes her look closely at her life, her friends, her enemies..nothing is as it seems for Jet. Big twist at the end that made the whole book worth it. 3.5 stars!

This book was okay. For an adult thriller, it read more like a YA to me. There was way too much cussing...to the point of being annoying. I honestly didn't like the FMC, Jett. While I felt sorry for her, with her health condition from being attacked, I just didn't connect with her at all. Billy was absolutely amazing, though!!! I did have my suspicions as to who the main culprit was, and I was right. I also figured out some other things in the story. And some of the storyline was just kind of meh. While some might love this book, and it was a fast read, I just don't think this author is for me.

I saw Holly Jackson and said “sign me up!” without reading the blurb. Turns out reading the blurb would have been helpful, because it took me a minute to realize that I was *not* reading a YA novel, but an adult novel. HOWEVER - until I sorted why the main character’s best friend was married to her 30-year-old brother, I was CONCERNED. I promise I have excellent reading comprehension but the real issue is that this 100% reads like YA, and I’m sorry Ms. Jackson, but no amount of f-bombs will make me change my mind.

The concept is super intriguing - main character Jet is attacked, nearly doesn’t survive, then finds out she has about a week left to live, and with that time she decides she wants to solve her own murder. I had a very hard time believing that she would have been able to leave the hospital following this traumatic injury and ensuing surgery, but apparently that is neither here nor there.

She teams up with her childhood friend Billy to figure out who attacked her and why, and despite Jet never once growing on me, I was interested enough to see how the story unfolded (and it did so in classic Holly Jackson fashion).

Unfortunately, it really felt like this was a YA novel that was changed to an adult novel after it had already been written. Jet was insufferable from page one and I didn’t see enough character growth to come around to her as our lead. The plot was intriguing enough but not enough to redeem my other issues - 2.5 stars from me!

Thank you to Ballantine Books and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I’ve read many other of Holly Jackson’s books. I really liked the storyline of this one because it’s one that isn’t written about all the time I feel like. Sometimes thrillers can get old with the same storylines. This first 50% of the book was just okay. Then it really picked up with a lot happening the last 50%! Lots of twists I didn’t predict. A fun read!

First I’d like to thank Ballantine/Netgalley for giving me the honor to read this Arc.

Aesthetic:🎃🧠🔥🏭🚔🏊‍♀️🔫✉️
This book follows our main character Jet,she was in some way murdered on Halloween by a yet mysterious person. She ends up with severe brain damage that basically got her to a death date.Jet has about a week to live and she chooses to solve her own murder with the time left!

As a start this book is 5/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s for me!
If I could give this book more than that,I truly would. This isn’t your normal thriller that just has murder.
It was so fast paced that I tried to read slowly so the pages wouldn’t end!!
The way I got connected to the characters in this book is impossible to happen with my other favorite thrillers.
These characters give you the meaning of life so beautifully and tragically, that you forget your reading a mystery book.

First Jet,I thought she was fun, funny, sweet, and she was just so relatable!! I felt her pain and her thoughts and seriously loved how strong and brave she is.

Now for Billy,I love him so so much!! He’s so sweet to Jet and I shipped them all the way.
The way he’s been in love with Jet since they were kids is just so cute.He supported her,and literally went with many adventures that could get him in jail for Jet🥹

This is my first Holly Jackson book and I understand the hype she gets for her books.I’m definitely going to read more of her!!

Jet was attacked at her own house. 3 hits to the head. Everyone thought she died but she lived but the attack left a bone deep in her brain that will ultimately cause an aneurysm and kill her. The doctor gave her about a week. Jet is determined to solve her own murder case before her time is up. Can she do it?

The twists and turns of this book had me reeling and suspecting every single character. I enjoyed this quite a lot! I was cheering on Jet all through out! That ending thoughhhh! If you love A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, you will also love this!

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for this ARC ❤️

Thank you for the ARC.

27-year-old Jet Mason is attacked by a mysterious assailant, leaving her with only seven days to live. Her final wish is to solve her own murder. Jet was a bit of an annoying character and didn’t act her age, however, I was hoping for a miracle for her and loved the little love connection between her and Billy. I honestly wanted to DNF this book during the first chapter as I was so confused but glad I pushed on. I liked the concept of solving her own murder. I didn’t guess correctly who it was.

Talk about an emotional roller coaster. It shouldn't shock me that Holly Jackson can create a mystery which so many twist and turns and deflection and it one of the reasons I consume her books so quickly, a true page turner. I absolutely loved this even though it devastated me (I was really hoping for a miracle) but the story did wrap up nicely and I can only hope Billy will get his HEA because I am still rooting for him. The letters at the end really tied it all together and glad they were in there in handwriting form, it really made it hit so much harder.

Thank you for the eARC and letting me review it!

Not Quite Dead Yet is a gripping thriller!

27-year-old Jet Mason has a catchphrase: “I’ll do it later.” However, on Halloween night, she is attacked by a mysterious assailant, leaving her with only seven days to live. Her final wish is to solve her own murder and finally make something of her life!

Not Quite Dead Yet begins with a captivating and engaging premise! Jet is a standout character with a vibrant personality that quiets the noise around her. While the pace does slow in the middle, the ending picks up significantly! This story delves into deeper themes and evokes a range of emotions.

Overall, Not Quite Dead Yet is an excellent adult thriller/mystery by Holly Jackson! I have thoroughly enjoyed all her Young Adult novels, and this one is just as remarkable

Pre-order it. Now. Please. Don’t read the description. Just trust Holly Jackson to craft an expert mystery that will keep you guessing (and in this one, crying) until the end. This is a perfect entry into adult thrillers for Jackson, while still being appropriate for the younger readers who fell in love with AGGGTM.
Jet is the perfect main character that takes “darkly funny” to another level. There’s a tight week-long time line in this book that keeps everything moving at a heart pounding pace. And the layers to the plot make sure that no page of this book is ever boring.
I cannot wait for this book to be released so I can listen to all my friend’s thoughts as they read it. This is my next book club pick, for sure.

I went into this with fairly high expectations because i’ve heard such good things about Holly Jackson’s YA books but have never read one for myself. This felt like the perfect way to get into her writing and it did not disappoint. I LOVED this book! It was one of the best thrillers I have read it a long time. The premise was so unique! I can’t wait to dive into her backlog!

Wow! What a fun ride this book was! I found myself not being able to put the book down and I needed to know more. My accusations jumped so many times I got whiplash. While I found myself not loving Jet, she sort of annoyed me, I certainly laughed out loud more than a few times because of her. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately but the pacing and mystery kept me involved and interested and needing to know what happened! Thank you Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the arc!
