Thanks, NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC!

Not Quite Dead Yet is a gripping thriller!

27-year-old Jet Mason has a catchphrase: “I’ll do it later.” However, on Halloween night, she is attacked by a mysterious assailant, leaving her with only seven days to live. Her final wish is to solve her own murder and finally make something of her life!

Not Quite Dead Yet begins with a captivating and engaging premise! Jet is a standout character with a vibrant personality that quiets the noise around her. While the pace does slow in the middle, the ending picks up significantly! This story delves into deeper themes and evokes a range of emotions.

Overall, Not Quite Dead Yet is an excellent adult thriller/mystery by Holly Jackson! I have thoroughly enjoyed all her Young Adult novels, and this one is just as remarkable

Pre-order it. Now. Please. Don’t read the description. Just trust Holly Jackson to craft an expert mystery that will keep you guessing (and in this one, crying) until the end. This is a perfect entry into adult thrillers for Jackson, while still being appropriate for the younger readers who fell in love with AGGGTM.
Jet is the perfect main character that takes “darkly funny” to another level. There’s a tight week-long time line in this book that keeps everything moving at a heart pounding pace. And the layers to the plot make sure that no page of this book is ever boring.
I cannot wait for this book to be released so I can listen to all my friend’s thoughts as they read it. This is my next book club pick, for sure.

I went into this with fairly high expectations because i’ve heard such good things about Holly Jackson’s YA books but have never read one for myself. This felt like the perfect way to get into her writing and it did not disappoint. I LOVED this book! It was one of the best thrillers I have read it a long time. The premise was so unique! I can’t wait to dive into her backlog!

Wow! What a fun ride this book was! I found myself not being able to put the book down and I needed to know more. My accusations jumped so many times I got whiplash. While I found myself not loving Jet, she sort of annoyed me, I certainly laughed out loud more than a few times because of her. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately but the pacing and mystery kept me involved and interested and needing to know what happened! Thank you Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the arc!

ARC REVIEW: NOT QUITE DEAD YET BY HOLLY JACKSON

RATING: 1/5

SYNOPSIS: In seven days Jet Mason will be dead.

Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time. Until Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder. She suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm.

Jet has never thought of herself as having enemies. But now she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend. She has at most seven days, and as her condition deteriorates she has only her childhood friend Billy for help. But nevertheless, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something: Jet is going to solve her own murder.

first and foremost, i want to say a huge thank you to netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this anticipated release early!

unfortunately, this story fell so incredibly flat for me. i haven’t really enjoyed any of HJ’s releases since the AGGGTM series, but i thought maybe reading her adult debut would change that.

some of my thoughts are:
- there are SO many characters in this book, and they are all introduced within the first chapter or two, so it became very confusing very quickly
- as the synopsis states, our MC suffers a very serious head injury. i could not understand why she was allowed to leave the hospital in the condition she was described to be in. & at one point, she notes how she smacks the back of her head (where the gaping head injury is), and we don’t discuss it again …. surely we should be concerned about that.
- one of my biggest pet peeves throughout this story was how our MC kept telling anyone who would listen that she was murdered/someone murdered her/she is going to solve her murder. i understand what she was saying, but it was so insanely repetitive, & hey girl! you’re not de*d yet!!!! you were ATTACKED.
- our MC was just incredibly immature in her actions, as a 27 year old, the language in this book felt so over the top & unnecessary. i’m absolutely no stranger to cursing in books but it was really overdone.

This book was amazing! The twists and turns. The whole concept was great and it wasn't just the same old murder mystery.

5 Stars!!!!! I Love Holly Jackson!!

I loved the whodunit vibe of this one—but don’t expect your typical murder mystery. Holly Jackson adds her signature twist by having the main character be the victim who has to solve her own murder. Genius, right? The FMC is everything I love in a lead: spunky, sarcastic, and hilariously unbothered by everything except finding out who killed her. The humor woven through the story was spot on and gave the book such a fun energy, even with the darker themes.
Highly recommend grabbing this one for your fall TBR—it’s set around Halloween and has all the cozy-creepy vibes that make it perfect for spooky season!

Thank you @randomhouse & @ballantinebooks for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I thought that Not Quite Dead Yet was such a great read! I loved the premise and I thought it was executed so well. There were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and I did not want to put it down. The dark humor was my favorite part and I loved every bit of it! It was fast paced, entertaining, and engaging. This book had all the things I look for in a mystery thriller and I highly recommend reading it!

I was given an advanced copy of this book. All opinions expressed above are my own.

First I would like to thank random house publishing group, NetGalley and Holly Jackson for the arc!
Holly's books never disappoint-and this one is certainly not an exception.

For Jackson's first adult mystery, the book follows jet, a sarcastic woman with a haunted past. She is suck at the point in her life where she feels like she is the only one not progressing just waiting for that one moment, one push for her "life to begin". However, that moment might be delayed a bit because, on Halloween night, she was violently attacked in her own home. A deadly, violent attack, that put her life on a deadline-just one week. One week she dedicated to solve her own murder.

To begin with, I think Holly's prose is one of the best in the current thriller/crime genre. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly; she has this smooth way of writing that makes you hooked and pulls you out of a reading slump. It might be one of my favorite things about her books you just never get bored.

The mystery itself is intriguing. I have to say I am glad it didn't end up who I thought it will be, because otherwise it would have been too obvious. However, although it was hard to guess who did it, beside the final plottwist I wish the rest of the book was filled with more twists.

Now, for jet-a super interesting character to read. I can't say I loved her (she just kept talking/whining about certain stuff I didn't really care about). her inner dialogue was a bit repetitive at parts. HOWEVER, I loved her jokes, and was super interested in how she interacted with the idea that the doctors gave her 1 week to live. What would you do, in her case? There was this scene, with Billy that I LOVED, I just wish we got more sense of looming doom.

The ending perfect. No complaints.

Okay to sum up- good book. Not Holly's best, so I wouldn't recommend that this be your introduction to her; however, definitely not a book to skip.

Holly Jackson is one of my favorite authors and Not Quite Dead Yet is engaging, well-written, and emotional. I thought the pacing was good until the somewhat abrupt ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine/Bantam for the Advance Reader's Copy.

I’d love to read more books like this! The urgency of this book and pacing was amazing. I love the characters written by Holly Jackson. She knows how to write well-rounded characters. Always wanting more. Keeping things spoiler free but that ending!!! Loved the build up. My only slight qualm is that this is marketed as her first adult novel. However, it does still reads very YA. The characters are just older. I kept having to remind myself that these people were not teenagers. Other than that, I absolutely loved it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.25 stars)

I’ve been a fan of Holly Jackson ever since A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder completely hooked me, and I’ve been making my way through all her books. When I got approved for this ARC on NetGalley, I couldn’t wait to dive in—even though June was incredibly busy.

I finally carved out some time and ended up binge-reading the entire second half in one sitting. From 15% to 100%, I had to know what was going to happen next.

One thing about me: I love a good mystery, but I am absolutely terrible at solving them. I had three solid suspects in mind—and every single one was wrong. Holly Jackson’s storytelling is just that twisty and clever.

If you enjoy fast-paced mysteries with sharp writing and plenty of surprises, this is one to put on your radar. Another addictive read from Holly that kept me guessing to the very end.

Wow I didn’t think I would get emotional over a mystery/thriller but here we are!

I haven’t read any Holly Jackson books before, mostly because I’m not a big YA fan, so I was excited to try her first adult novel. While the first third had a slower pace, it quickly picked up and I found I couldn’t put it down until I discovered all the pieces of this mystery. What the author added right before the last chapter had me GUTTED. I will be exploring Holly Jackson’s future adult releases as well.

Thank you NetGalley for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I’m still quite conflicted on how I feel about this book…

holly jackson’s writing style has been lacking in her past YA novels, but in her adult debut, I fear she slayed it out of the park!! it was captivating & fast-paced & everything a good thriller should be!

onto the characters… our FMC jet is veryyyy unlikable and acts more like a teenager than the 27-year-old she’s supposed to be, and after she receives a diagnosis of a week to live, I fear she gets more insufferable 🥲 which leads me to our cinnamon roll billy who is the only one she trusts to help solve the case of her own murder (and truly the only likable character in this story)

the concept of the plot was so well thought out!! there were times that it felt like an adult version of AGGGTM, but it mostly relied on jet putting the pieces together as pip did in her story. but that ending was nothing I was expecting - and I’m not sure in a good way or bad…

for me, I appreciate when mysteries are wrapped up nicely in a bow, so when I reached the last 10% of the book and literally all hell broke loose, I was 😨😨😨 until the end

while I can appreciate the art of shocking the audience & creating an ambiguous ending, I still can’t decide if it was right for this particular story or not…

thank you to bantam for the advanced copy of holly jackson’s latest!

5⭐️

After being so made about the last GGGTM book, I happy to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved Holly Jackson’s first adult novel! I loved how chaotic Jet was as a character even before her injury and watching her try to beat the clock and solve her own murder before the aneurysm bursts. After being such a passive person in her life up until this point, it was refreshing to see how quickly she stopped caring about offending anyone during her investigation. Moving out of her parents house and away from her toxic relationship with her mother in the days leading up to her death was perfect.

Jet’s relationship with Billy was also a big driving point for me. It was easy to see that Jet was the only one not aware that Billy was in love with her and her coming to terms with that and the fact that their time together was so limited was great growth. Billy was a true ride or die friend and I loved how hard he fought for Jet to get her last wish. Everyone in this was suspicious and I really enjoyed the investigation. Even the over the top red herrings that normally drive me crazy worked for me in this book; it felt like you could feel Jet beginning to deteriorate and was so believable.

I spent the whole time expecting a miracle cure but I love it even more that there wasn’t one!

Thanks NetGalley and Bantam Books for providing this ARC to me!

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine for this ARC!

Jet Mason, part of the wealthy and well-known Mason family in Woodstock, VT, has seven days to solve her own murder. On Halloween night, she’s attacked in her home, and due to underlying medical conditions, she's given just one week to live. The story follows Jet and her best friend Billy as they try to piece together what happened—only to uncover a web of secrets and lies buried deep in their seemingly quiet town.

This book was a ROLLERCOASTER. There were so many twists and turns I never saw coming. The last 20% had my jaw on the floor—seriously, if you read this for anything, read it for the ending and then come talk to me about it because I’m still recovering.

I adored Jet. Her self-deprecating humor and sharp comebacks made her incredibly likeable. At times, the writing gave off a bit of a YA vibe (which I personally enjoyed), and it made me feel like I was rooting for my best friend to solve her own murder.

I would definitely recommend this book! It’s the perfect pick for a beach vacation—just know you might not want to put it down once you start.

3.75-4 Stars

This one is difficult to rate as I for the most part enjoyed it and flew through it but then I did not love the ending. I also had a hard time with the main character Jet, I thought she was super annoying for like 45% of the book and then started liking her towards the end. The premise was interesting but also kind of unbelievable but in a fun engaging way. So overall I liked it for the most part but I think a few elements could have been a bit better for me to love it. I think the twists were well done even though I guessed a lot of it from the beginning it was still satisfying to see it unfold. This is a fun summer mystery solve your own murder story that is an enjoyable quick read.

I received an eARC thanks to Netgalley and Bantam Books. All opinions are my own.
