I have no words. The amount of tears I shed during reading this is crazy from start to the acknowledgments . I devoured it. I loved it. I thought jet and Billy’s rekindling relationship was so sweet. Loved the concept of her solving her own murder and the unique circumstances allowing her to do it was just amazingly executed. Cannot wait for this to come out.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me arc copy and holly jackson for making me cry for 2 days.

I’m not crying, YOU ARE.
Okay fine… I. AM. CRYING. 😭

HOLLY JACKSON EXCUSE MEEE!?!?? UMMMM WHAT?? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT “….breathe” MESSAGE 😭🫂 LIKE, HOW DARE YOU—IN THE BEST WAY???

Now that I’ve cried my weight in tears, let’s be clear: MOTHER. NEVER. DISAPPOINTS. 🙂‍↕️

Solid 4 stars from me. The writing? Chef’s kiss 👏 Plot twist? 🤯 DAYUMMM. Holly never misses. One second you're suspicious, the next you’re reeling like “HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS COMING??” My eyes were like 👀 “WHAAAAAAT!???” I’m still not okay 😭

Literally writing this while my tears are forming a small ocean 😭 I’m overwhelmed. Words are hard. Feelings??? ALL OVER THE PLACE 😭

This book?? A perfect mix of emotional wreckage and jaw-dropping twists. The kind of story that leaves you staring at a wall afterward, rethinking life. The hate??? I had a few “I will personally fight you 🙂‍↕️” moments. The love??? NOPE. That HURT. I was not ready 😭🫠

The letters part — oh no, no no. That was a “curl-up-under-your-blanket-and-sob” moment. That was just a cruel (genius) move to guarantee tears 😃😭 Like ma’am, I was ALREADY crying???

Excuse me while I go lie in bed and emotionally recover 🫠

“But if it’s a frog to you, then it’s a frog to me too.” 🥹🫠😭— For Her. Jet and Billy 🥹🫶

The way this book wouldn’t let me rest- so good.

Jet is a later kind of girl, because there’s always time tomorrow- but when someone sneaks in her house on Halloween night and bashes her head in with a hammer she’s left with 7 days to find her murderer.

Fast paced, well written, and the twist is beautiful. I read this one in two days, only putting it down because I have a job and responsibilities.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the ARC and the privilege of reading this book and leaving an honest review

This is Holly Jackson’s first foray into an adult mystery/thriller instead of her usual YA audience. Her series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (which is also a Netflix series) started out strong and in my opinion botched the landing in the third book. I may not have completely forgiven her for that. I was intrigued when her new adult murder mystery novel popped up. Unfortunately you can tell this author writes for YA normally because the protagonist is kind of a bitch. She hates her family, her town, and people in general. There’s liberal f-bombs in the first few pages and it’s giving moody teen in a 27-year-old law school dropout body. Very edge. Very angry. Not demure. And there’s not enough background to justify it yet. What there is plenty of is characters. We meet a veritable slew of them in the first pages with zero context. I have no idea who these people are or if they’re important, but if we are going by numbers, it wins in that category.

So basically, she gets whacked in the head, there’s a fragment pressing on an artery and because she has PKD, her veins and arteries are more squishy and it was cause an aneurysm in 7 days. That… is not how any of that works. I mean, sort of, but not really. And not down to the days. I am unfortunately familiar with traumatic brain injuries. This reads like a cursory google search in plausibility without actually asking about the probability of these things happening to this level of degree and timeline. I have no words.

This is not adult. This reads like YA. Jet feels 17 not 27. And while the idea is intriguing, the execution is lacking. If you want a book that’s an adult mystery that solves their own murder try “How to Solve Your Own Murder” by Kristen Perrin, not this one.

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for providing this ARC for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really loved this. It's not too shocking since I've enjoyed pretty much all of the books by Holly Jackson that I've read, but there is such an emotional resonance with NOT QUITE DEAD YET as we follow a woman who has to solve her own murder, as after she is brutally attacked and survives, she is informed that she is going to no doubt succumb to an aneurysm due to her injuries. I really enjoyed following Jet as she follows the clues and tries to figure out who her ultimate murderer is, but not only is the mystery tight, it's also a VERY emotional story about mortality and what we do with limited time that we have. Jet is also very funny, her sarcasm and biting dialogue very fun. Also, her relationship with childhood best friend Billy is one of my favorite dynamics I've seen in a book this year. All around great, it really worked for me.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on StoryGraph. Not Quite Dead Yet is Holly Jackson's adult debut. On Halloween night Jet is attacked from behind in her home. She miraculously survived after being bludgeoned three times (the doctors had to reconstruct her skull), although perhaps survived is too strong of a word: a piece of her skull embedded in her brain will kill her in about a week. In the meantime, Jet is finally going to do something big with her life, she is going to solve her own murder.
Reading this book made me wonder why I don't read more mystery books; I had so much fun with this one. The premise was so much fun and Jet was such an enjoyable character. Since she's basically already dead, she doesn't have to worry about consequences which made for entertaining and interesting choices. I absolutely loved her dynamic with Billy; I was so invested. The mystery was done well, enough crumbs that I figured out a few things and the solution made sense, but there was enough that I didn't pick up on that I didn't feel like finishing the book was pointless or boring. I was genuinely surprised at the final reveal and at the same time the groundwork was laid so it felt earned. I would definitely recommend this book, especially for those wanting to get into or curious about the mystery genre.
Thank you to Bantam and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

I absolutely loved Good Girls Guide and Holly Jackson did NOT disappoint with her debut into adult fiction! WOW! A fast paced read that I could not put down and finished in one day and just left my jaw hanging (thank you for your apology at the end because we deserved it!!). Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Wow. This was INTENSE. I have read thousands of books in my 44 years, and I have never read a book that made me tear up. Never. This book was absolutely incredible, and one of the best character arcs I’ve ever seen. Jet Mason starts off as the ultimate unlikable character. But within a few pages, I was hooked on her. I started off feeling bad about her situation. (Man that really sucks for her!) I was thoroughly entertained as I was reading. But then I got to the part where she finally breaks, and friends, it absolutely broke me. I’ve never experienced that from a book. I’ve never experienced anything like what she went through, and I’ve never been told I’m dying. But I do remember the day last summer when I was told I have a spine condition that will likely leave me paralyzed within a few years. And I remember that helplessness, that anger, that feeling of being betrayed by your own body. All the things Jet felt. And I’ve had far more time to come to terms with it. Jet? She has seven days. There were several scenes after that that had me tearing up enough that I had to put the book down so I could breathe. What a hallmark of great writing to make someone do that! To grieve for a made up character! Even now, the day after finishing the book, I still can’t help but feel sad for her. To feel her absence as if she were a real person. I couldn’t stop reading, even though I felt like I was standing in the way of an oncoming train. This book has absolutely ruined me in the best way. I wish I could read it again for the first time!

Huge thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

I loved this. I think the plot had every opportunity to be obnoxious and cliche, but Holly Jackson is an amazing writer and didn’t allow that to happen. Jackson is a master of “show-don’t tell-writing” and that shone through here.
A story doesn’t have to be super realistic to be intriguing, emotional, and pull you all-in. This one sure wasn't, and it did.
The one thing that kept rubbing me the wrong way was how the general estimate the doctor gave her about how long she had left to live: ~a week at the most~ (this isn't a spoiler i promise) became the countdown timeline she followed throughout the book. I had to suspend my disbelief for a lot for the sake of the story, especially the medical stuff, so not sure why that specific thing bothered me so much.

I would DEFINITELY recommend picking up this book.

Get ready to absolutely BAWL your eyes out and destroy your mental health! Holly Jackson has done it once again. A brilliant plot, well-crafted characters and an ending that will make you want to start reading the book all over again.

Jet has seven days to solve her own murder. And let me tell you, if you’re intrigued now, then I can’t wait for you to start reading the first page and not being able to put “Not Quite Dead Yet“ down.

Holly Jackson‘s mind works in an amazing way, her characters are otherworldly and there’s an insane amount of depth put into them. Her storylines are so well crafted and appealing to such a wide range of audiences. Jet and Billy you will always be famous. Love you forever and always. And I‘m so thrilled for everyone to finally read this masterpiece.

An incredible thank you to NetGalley for the advanced readers copy. Saved my life (literally).

I loved the Good Girls Guide to Murder so I jumped at the chance to request this one!

"In seven days Jet Mason will be dead.

Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time.

Until Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder.

She suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm."

Does Jet solve her own murder?

Not Quite Dead Yet is such a unique murder mystery, with a great Fall setting (Halloween). I liked the angle this crime thriller took, which felt fresh while still having all the familiar elements of investigative work that often appear in this genre. I think this would make a perfect who-dunnit for those spooky autumn nights.

ARC releasing 7/22. Jet is hit over the head from behind several times and is given 7 days to live until she has a deadly aneurysm that she plans to use to solve her own murder. This felt very juvenile. It wouldn't make sense in the story, but I felt like the characters should have been teenagers, not in their 30s. They were just childish and made decisions that didn't really make sense ever? It was fine, but could have been better.

Holly Jackson quite literally knocked it out of the park. While yes it is a darker read from her it is still a story that sucks you in like many of her other stories. I loved Jet. It's quite simple for me to say that, and that I loved her authenticity, her struggles, her view of the world, and how everyone in their twenties could see a small part of themselves in her. Second - I loved Billy. He is a shining star in this book and the character in a book that you will always love and root for. Third - The twists and turns, the secret connections, etc. had me on the edge of my seat and it was always hard for me to put the book down and get ready for work or go to bed.
I am so happy that I got the chance to read this book before it's release date and will be recommending it to everyone I know.

Not Quite Dead Yet is such a unique murder mystery. I loved that it takes place during Halloween time, and would be a perfect fall time who-dunnit.

Similar to this author's previous hit novel, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, this is a mystery driven story. It begins when a girl is brutally attacked and given a week to live. All she wants to do before she officially dies, is solve her own murder.

I HAD to find out who did it and had so many theories. I trusted NO ONE. Well, except Reggie, the family dog. But other than him, my suspect list was a merry-go-round of possibilities, and no one was off limits from my scrutiny.

Jackson does a great job of showing and not telling, and I always love her writing style. The main character, Jet, was unlikable with her prickly demeanor and dark humor, but I also felt that I fully supported all her rights and wrongs as she strived to do the impossible and solve the crime committed against her...it was entertaining and she grew on me as the book went on.

The story was heavy at points and I found myself reflecting on what I would do or feel if I were in Jet's position...she handled it better than I probably would have. Although I think I would have made inappropriate death jokes, too. 🤷‍♀️

So, if you love a well written mystery and want a creative storyline instead of the tired old usual for this genre.

4.25⭐️

This was my first Holly Jackson book and it did not disappoint! I found her writing to be so easy to read and get sucked in to. The premise of this book is something that I truly have never seen before!

The blurb said, “Jet is going to solver her own murder.”
Say less….sign me up!!

Reading this was a journey because, let me tell you, at no point was I sure of what was going to happen or who did it and why!

The only issue I had was I would have really liked a little more to the conclusion. The ending felt a little rushed and I wanted to know what happened after that final scene.

Overall though, it was such a fun and intriguing read and I will definitely be picking up some of the authors backlist!

Holly Jackson is well and truly one of the greatest authors of this generation. She is able to write a thriller which will have you gripping the arm of your chair and have a dire need to know what’s coming next. If Holly publishes it, you can guarantee that I am going to read it.

Jackson's debut mystery for adults is a miss for me, bogged down by clunky writing, a convoluted set of motives, and a main character who was a pretty unlikable protagonist. The first chapter introduced over ten characters in its opening pages, leaving me floundering. I didn't feel connected to Jet, the main character, at all by the time she is brutally attacked at the end of the first chapter. The family dynamics were interesting, but I thought that the main reveal and motive at the end of the book was lackluster. The dialogue and narrator voice felt locked into YA. While I wanted to like this book, I simply did not.

Okay, this book didn’t disappoint. The blurb sounded really intriguing, and I was genuinely hoping to read a mystery thriller that would keep me hooked and eager to keep reading, trying to uncover the identity of the killer and the reason behind their actions. This book accomplished all of that and more.

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for the ARC.

3.75 rounded up to a 4!

Holly Jackson’s introduction into adult thriller was a hit. I really enjoyed this story, it was not like anything I have read before. It had all the elements I want in a thriller and I could not put it down. The family drama on top of the mystery was well written. I loved how the story was broken up by days and then the ending? It really got me. I also thought I had the twist figured out but of course, in true Holly Jackson style, I was wrong.

The beginning did start off slow for me and took a bit to get into. Once the story picked up, I could not put this down. While this is an adult thriller, I still found some of the dialogue to be immature and felt a little YA.

Looking forward to more thrillers that Holly Jackson writes!!

From the very first page I was hooked! Holly writes in a way that draws you in to keep wanting to read more. This is the kind of book where you think you have it figured out only to be completely surprised at the very end. I loved the character development and getting to know Jet. I have never read a suspenseful mystery quite like this one where the main character is alive and trying to find out who killed her. I definitely recommend this to readers who love a mystery and one that you simply have to keep reading to find out who killed Jet.
