Jet has seven days to live… and she’s spending them solving her own murder.
Countdown mystery – Jet only has seven days to uncover who tried to kill her, adding urgency and a pulse-pounding timeline to the entire story.

Twisted relationships – From estranged friends to a sister-in-law with a grudge, every person in Jet’s life might be hiding something.

Strong heroine energy – Jet’s not going out quietly—she’s determined to take control of her story, no matter the cost.
Because I am a total fan of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I will pretty much read anything Holly Jackson writes. And this plotline is crazy because the entire time you just hope that Jet can figure out some way to keep from dying. This is not paranormal or anything, but the real story is that there are so many suspects. It’s kind of uncomfortable to read, as Jet’s body just keeps shutting down. The ending also is very intense. While I can’t say this book is one I will read again, it was quite an exciting ride.

7 days is all Jet Mason is given to live. After coming home from the community festival Jet is attacked in her families kitchen and is on the brink of death when she is found. After being rushed to the hospital she is told by the doctor she has two options: have brain surgery which will probably kill her during the surgery or go home and let the massive anuerysm kill her within 7 days. Jet decides to go home even though her entire family is urging her to have the surgery. But now she has 7 days to figure out who killed her. As she starts discovering she starts to realize there is a lot of people who are holding secrets including her own family. Jet quickly learns how much people are willing to do to hide their secrets.

This book is incredible and I could not put it down! It was one of those books that made me want to never stop reading. I was on the edge of my seat and a small part of me was constantly wishing Jet was not destined for death. Jet character development was incredible and quick. I had a lot of moments of anger towards her family too for all they did to cover up secrets. I would highly recommend!

When Jet is attacked and suffers a catastrophic head injury from which she will surely die, she spends the next week trying to solve her own murder. With the help of her childhood friend Billy, she tries to put all the pieces together and figure out who attacked her. Equal parts funny, heart wrenching, and suspenseful, Not Quite Dead Yet is a must read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

okay damn holly jackson. she really has something against happy ever afters huh. not quite dead yet was so honestly so mind bending, i started it a week ago or so, but only started actually reading it today and finished it, so that's probably the shortest i've finished a book in a while! and the book went pretty fast, and there wasn't many slow spots, and i really enjoyed the concept of solving your own murder, i think that was so clever! and for the characters, jet: i had to warm up to her i'll be honest. in the beginning, i lowk didn't understand her and she kinda pmo but as the book progressed, i began to understand her and her actions. and billy: aw, my baby, he was so freaking sweet, i just wanted to give him a hug :/ the song he wrote for her was so sweet ugh

thank you to netgalley and holly jackson for the arc in exchange for an honest review! <3

Wow, Holly Jackson has a way of keeping me on my toes. This book has the fast-paced twists and turns of her previous books and a main character that you want to see succeed. The premise for this is so good that even when I hit parts that felt slow to me, I couldn’t put it down because of the ticking clock that was Jet. She can be a frustrating character but that made me love her more. Billy is up there with Ravi for top MMCs for me. The characters all felt realistically flawed and it made it hard to trust any of them. I thought I knew where the plot was going so many times and was surprised each time.

When I saw this on my NetGalley shelf, I dropped everything to start reading. This was a hell of a ride! I was drawn in after a few chapters that felt a bit slow. The build up is so good as Jet only has one week to hunt for her killer with her best friend Billy. This journey unravels so many secrets along the way and brought about new subplots. I saw some twists coming but they kept the story engaging and had me anticipating what happens next.

Jet is a hilarious MC with her puns about dying and her confrontations with suspects. I loved how determined she is as Holly Jackson main characters are. Billy was the perfect partner in crime.

There is a lot of family drama to sort through which added more to the plot as they peeled back different layers on characters. I was able to figure out the killer in the last 20% and the climax was so intense and emotional. Another great mystery from Ms Jackson!!

Thank you NetGalley and Random House for providing me with an ARC for one of the most exciting thrillers this year in exchange for my thoughts :)

I genuinely hate to give books one star but this was bad. I heard this is Holly Jackson's first adult thriller but quite truthfully, it read painfully like a YA novel — I often forget in the story that Jet is 27 years old with the way she acts childish. The premise of solving one's murder prior to dying was interesting but I think the execution was severely lacking. Most of the mystery elements were told to us without much context or history, the storyline was messy and difficult to follow at times. I feel like it was way too long as well without little to no substance for the book. IMO, kind of unbelievable it just wraps up THAT fast in the very last chapter of the book like genuinely, what the hell was with that unoriginal ending.

The love story was stupid and unnecessary as well. I really did not enjoy this book but maybe it just wasn't marketed for me as the target demographic.

Okay. Ohh boy. There’s honestly not much I can say without risking spoilers, so I’m just going to rant the best I can and hope it does this book justice.

Yes, the start is a little slow. I get why people say that—it doesn’t hook you right on the first page. But I gave it until around chapter four and boom—I was in. Holly Jackson has this uncanny ability to write in a way that quietly creeps up on you until you're completely obsessed. Her writing is smart, twisty, and emotionally grounded, and even if the setup takes a breath to build, the payoff is always worth it. She hasn’t failed me yet (let’s hope that streak continues 🤞🏻).

Now let’s talk Jet. No, she wasn’t my all-time favorite Holly Jackson protagonist, but she felt realistic. That "I’ll do it later" “I’ll do it tomorrow”mindset? The thinking you have all the time in the world until suddenly you don’t? That hit hard. There’s something deeply relatable in her procrastination, in that sense of life slipping through your fingers until you’re forced to face it. But look, being faced with death doesn’t mean much when you use it as an excuse to manipulate people into doing what you want, girl was just a manipulator in general and she definitely got her way—and yeah, that smart aleck energy of hers was going strong. But I’ll admit, she cracked me up more than once. Still, let’s not pretend she didn’t totally fumble something amazing right in front of her (iykyk). And yet... somehow I was still rooting for her? Wild.

And Billy. My heart. Protect this man at all costs. He deserves better, deserves the whole world. He’s now officially up there with my favorite Holly Jackson male characters. He’s the kind of character that quietly steals your heart when you’re not looking. We love a supportive, emotionally intelligent king.

Real talk—every side or supporting character brought something to the table. They kept me entertained, and I genuinely enjoyed all of them.(besides the murderer obviously😤).

Overall? Another banger. Holly Jackson just gets me. Whether I’m looking for a gripping mystery or a good ugly cry, she delivers every time. Sometimes I can guess the twists, sometimes I can't—but somehow, she always shocks me in the end. This one hit emotionally, thematically, and plot-wise, and left me with that perfect mix of heartbreak and satisfaction.

3.5 Stars!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Jet reminded me so of Pip, in the sense that they are both a little crazy and willing to do anything to solve a murder even if their own life is on the line. It is has been a while since I have read a mystery and I usually don’t, it’s not a genre I read often. But when I do, it is most definitely written by Holly Jackson.

I enjoyed this one, not as much as A good girl guide to murder but still kept my interest throughout the whole book. What I felt kind of odd was Jet’s character, who was a little too chill about having been almost murdered and then finding out you have about a week left to live.

I liked how things unfolded and ALOT was unfolded that I was surprised that I did not see some things coming. Usually these type of books you can predict the “who dun it” half way through, but I was about only 50 pages from the end when I was still trying to predict who the culprit was. And the ending was…. Not what I expected….

Overall another entertaining mystery/thriller by Holly Jackson!

I am shook. I am just so shook right now. I just finished this, and those twists plus the ending have just completely left me speechless!! I'm typically good at guessing the whodunits.... but this one, wheww child. I was so wrong. The story itself was amazing, and there were so many little crumbs along the way. Once you see the bigger picture, it's shocking. When I thought I knew it all, nope... more twists. I absolutely loved this book!! I bow down to you, Holly Jackson! It truly kept me on the edge of my seat.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Random House Publishing to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

Not Quite Dead Yet was so close to a 5 star read for me! When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it. I loved Jet and Billy so much! I loved all the twists and turns along the way. There were a few things that took me out of the story at times, a couple repetitive words and a scene that felt really unrealistic and had me asking questions about whether or not it was actually possible, but I do think that is a me problem. I also felt disproportionately confused about what type of container Jet's fries were in. I never noticed that I do not refer to fries' containers. I just reference them as fries. So the different word choices for describing the fries really pulled me right out of the story for a while. Because these small things kept pulling me out of it, I can't quite give it a full 5 stars. But for most of the book, the vibes were vibing and I was hooked. There were some tears, and definitely some laughs. This was a wild ride of a story, and I think if you're a fan of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, it will be a hit for you.

This thriller pulls you in from the very first page and doesn’t let go. It’s intense, unpredictable, and filled with twists that keep you second guessing everything.

The atmosphere is chilling, the tension never lets up, and every moment is layered with mystery and emotion. Just when you think you know what’s going on, the story shifts and hits you with something you never saw coming.

Perfect for fans of dark, clever thrillers that explore trust, survival, and the secrets people hide.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc of this entertaining book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. As a fan of the "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" series, I found similar captivating elements in this story. "Not Quite Dead Yet" managed to be suspenseful, thrilling, and deeply moving all at once. It seems to me that Holly Jackson has another successful book on her hands.

This was a bit of a slow burn. Up until about 50% of the book I thought this was a three star book. The second half of the book really took off and kept me engaged. I have read a number of Holly Jackson’s books and I felt that the way Jet was described, her behavior- she felt very much like the YA characters Holly has written in the past. Jet was also quite insufferable for a lot of the book. I found it hard to imagine that this was a grown woman. It did end up being an entertaining read and one that I will share with my friends.

Holy crap. Wtf did I just read. There are no words for the complexity of this one. After the ending to AGGGTM, and Holly Jackson's work since then, I've been apprehensive. Rachel Price was excellent. This one was amazing. I literally guessed who did it until the last page.

Jett comes home from a town Halloween event, heard her dog barking like mad, and then the next thing she knows, she's woken up in the hospital. Someone tried to murder her, and she somehow survived. There's a catch: A piece of her skull is lodged into her brain, forming an aneurysm. If the doctors can operate, she will be fine. However, thanks to a preexisting condition she has, there's a 90% chance she will die in the surgery. If she doesn't have the operation, the aneurysm will form and rupture within a week, killing her.

So Jett sets out to do the impossible: Solve her own murder before she's actually murdered.

PSA: The dog is not harmed.

HOLY. TWIST. This book hooked me from the first line: “In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead.” Like… how do you not keep reading after that??

This is Holly Jackson’s first adult novel and she absolutely kills it—pun 100% intended. Jet is such a compelling character: sarcastic, stubborn, and totally relatable in that “I’ll deal with life later” kind of way. But when later becomes a literal deadline? Game on.

The concept is so clever—Jet has one week to figure out who tried to kill her before her injury finishes the job. As her health declines, the suspense ramps up, and everyone becomes suspicious: her family, her ex, even her best friend. The paranoia is real, and the twists? Chef’s kiss.

If you loved A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, imagine that—but darker, edgier, and with even more emotional weight. This isn’t just a murder mystery—it’s about unfinished dreams, fractured friendships, and the things we put off until it’s too late.

Absolutely unputdownable. Jet’s countdown might be ticking, but trust me—you’ll finish this in one sitting.

Thank you, Netgalley, for this ARC!

Marget, Jet, is a 27-year-old woman who recently moved home after another failed endeavor. She has all the time in the world and plans to leave her mark. Unfortunately, someone tries to kill her and succeeds. Well, almost. The injuries she received mean that she has a week left to live before her brain shuts down. Jet plans to use that time to solve her murder. A+ for creative plot!

I love Holly Jackson and have read all of her books. This was another twisty thriller that had you guessing until the end. Lots of family drama and secrets! Is anyone truly innocent? How do past events relate to Jet's murder? Or do they not? This novel also does a lovely job of weaving in Big Ideas, like the meaning of life, into a thriller format.

Okay, why is it always the dad in Holly Jackson's books?? Jason Bell, Charlie Price, and now Billy's dad??? There is some psychoanalysis that can happen here. I did guess who the murderer was about halfway through, but all of the other twists and turns were worth the read.

3.75 out of 5 stars ⭐️

I’ve read almost all of Holly Jackson’s YA books and loved them, so I was thrilled to get to read this one early! Jet is a 27-year-old law school dropout living at home with her parents who is known for saying she’ll finish things “later.” On Halloween, she is brutally attacked but survives- however, her injuries will prove to be fatal within 1 week. Jet decides to use her last week to finally finish something and solve her own murder.

First, the good stuff: I enjoyed the quick pace and the family drama. I like Billy’s character a lot. Good twists, although I saw some of them coming. The ending crushed me- I was so hoping it went a different way (trying not to include spoilers here!). The writing was very much like the author’s YA books, so if you enjoyed those, this will work for you, with the addition of more foul language. Honestly, the main character is still young and the writing matches YA in my opinion, so that was a bit of a complaint in that this was billed as an adult debut. No worries, I still enjoyed it. The only other issue I had is that I didn’t love the main character. I wanted to, but found it hard to connect. She was kind of snarky and immature, which just didn’t work as well for me personally. Otherwise, this is a quick fun read that I will recommend!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Ballantine for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book!
