As always, Holly Jackson’s writing is just so addicting! I was immediately sucked into the story and was super intrigued by the mystery and where it was going. I did think a few of the twists came somewhat out of left field, and the ending felt a little rushed. I wish we had like 1-2 more chapters to flesh out the reveal and/or that it wrapped up in a slightly different way.

I surprisingly enjoyed Jet as a main character. She can definitely be unlikeable, but she without a doubt had reasons for that and was actually very kind when she wanted to be (her will was so thoughtful, I loved that part). And Billyyyy, I loved him. He’s just the sweetest man ever and I feel for him 🥺

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC!

Thanks to random house Ballantine and NetGalley for this arc.

Im a big Holly Jackson fan and this one didn’t disappoint. The concept of solving your own murder before you die is crazy and the way the book unfolds is really fun.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC. Not Quite Dead Yet was my first Holly Jackson book and I absolutely loved it.

This book kept me interested the whole time, it was hard for me to put down because I needed to know what happened! There were so many twists and turns throughout the book, I thought I would have something figured out and then there would be a new twist.

I was impressed with how much detail and explanation went into the brain injury our FMC had. The MMC grew on me and by the end I really liked him. Holly does a really good job at putting enough details into the characters so you feel connected but the details aren’t drawn out.

I do own “A Good Girls Guide to Murder” and I am sad I haven’t read it before now, but after reading Holly Jackson’s work I will be jumping into that book soon!

Imagine having the opportunity to solve your own murder….before you’re even dead. In an enthralling novel by Holly Jackson, the main female character who goes by Jet has the opportunity to do just that. After a brutal attack on Halloween night that nearly took her life, Jet receives the news from her doctor that the damage will inevitably cause a deadly brain aneurysm. Given at most seven more days to live, Jet is determined to solve the case herself and prove once and for all to her parents that she can finally accomplish something she sets her mind to.

I couldn’t put this down and was eager from the start to follow Jet’s journey to identify her killer. Not only does she unravel the mystery, but she finds herself redefining her relationships with those closest around her in the remaining time she has left. Perfectly stated, rather than feeling as though she’s dying those last days, she felt as though she was truly living finally!

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Holly Jackson and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review! You can find Not Quite Dead Yet on shelves near you on its pub date of July 22nd, 2025.

What would you do if you knew you only had a week to live? Solve your murder, of course. Good story that touches on themes of noticing what is in front of you, cherishing the life you have, and not waiting for things to happen.

hank you to the publishers and netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

this was a serviceable thriller. the twists were fun and i didn't see them coming, although by the middle point i stopped trying to figure it out and went along with the ride. i think the biggest problem with this book is that it's clear it's written by a typically ya author — because the plotting is very ya and the characters are also very ya. i think holly jackson could've easily aged the protagonist down about a decade and changed a few of the timing-related things, and the book would've benefited from it. jet and billy didn't read as adults; their romance also didn't read as adult. honestly, the characters were all kind of flat and not super likable.

it was still an entertaining read! but this is not an adult thriller imo, and the ending wasn't well-paced. it also suffers from the author's typical quirks of choosing to write american characters in an american setting that still sound british in their language choices. overall, some editing and changes to the characters could've gotten this one another star or half-star.

After a violent Halloween attack leaves her with a fatal brain injury and living on a finite timeline due to a ticking time bomb of a lingering deadly aneurysm, suddenly everyone around her looks like a suspect of her soon-to-be murder.
With her memory fading and her body failing, Jet teams up with her childhood friend Billy to do the one thing she’s never managed before. She’s going to solve her own murder.

If you like a story with a lot of chaos, unpredictable twists, a female narrator with an “I don’t give a fuck” attitude then this is a good one for you.

Faced with a nearly impossible decision, Jet decides to spend her last 7 days alive trying to solve her own murder.

Something I really appreciate about Holly Jackson’s books is that she doesn’t seem to be afraid of going against the grain. Unlikable characters who you find yourself rooting for or a plot that gives you nonstop body anxiety but you NEED to keep reading because you NEED to know what position Jackson is going to leave the characters in… that’s what Jackson will do to you.

Really enjoyed this. Thank you for the ARC NetGalley!

I LOVED the concept of this book, however it totally missed the mark for me. After I started reading it, I went back to check if this was supposed to be YA because I was so confused by how it was written vs the age of the characters. Jet, the main character, was supposed to be 27 but definitely read as a teenager. I also found it to be super unbelievable (Jet's quick acceptance of her diagnosis, the construction site scene - would someone who just suffered a MAJOR head injury really be able to participate in the grueling work of busting up foundation with a sledgehammer??, the police letting her go through her AppleWatch, etc.) So while I have enjoyed Jackson's other books, this one was just not for me.

I throughly enjoy Holly Jackson’s writing but this one was a slight disappointment.
I was underwhelmed at some parts and found it to be quite predictable if comparing to her other books
Jet a 27 year old, felt like a teenager so it read as more YA than adult. The premise is unique and captivating, perfect read for a quick mystery. I know it has potential for many others to love it more than I. The idea was there but just missed the mark for the follow through for me.
The ending felt quite abrupt.
I know Holly can write and do so well and will continue to read her works!
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!!

Jet is twenty-seven years old and still doesn’t know what to do with her life. After being attacked after a Halloween party, she has a life goal … solve her own murder. How is that possible? Her head injury caused an aneurysm that will burst within 7 days. She decides to use that time to discover who did this to her. Will she uncover the truth? What other secrets is this family hiding?

Not Quite Dead Yet is a stand-alone mystery that includes many twists, turns, and misdirections. Jackson has created a story that breaks through the standard mystery story and gives readers a new and exciting adventure. I was rooting for Jet as I also wondered what I would be doing if I had a week left to live. Not Quite Dead Yet is perfect for all readers.

I am not sure Holly Jackson is cut out for Adult fiction. i loved her YA series, but this felt like a lot of teen drama , with schumultsy trope actions. I wish it were gritting. I do think trying to solve your own murder is an interesting concept though and the saving grace of the book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

hands down holly jacksons best book so far.

this book was really everything and the plot twist were CRAZY. billy will now take #1 book bf because all he ever cared about throughout the whole book was that jet loved him back. also, i definitely feel like it was only considered adult because they said the f word about 200 times but hey im here for it. i’m so happy that this book was amazing and i really don’t think holly can write a bad book.

p.s. thank you very much net gallery for my ARC

I’m a huge fan of Holly Jackson and this one didn’t disappoint. 4 stars only because I figured out a lot of the book ahead of time, so then I felt I was just reading to see if I was right. And I was. Nonetheless, this was a great book, an easy read, and it was full of twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Not Quite Dead Yet
by Holly Jackson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book deserves all the stars. This is my first read by Holly Jackson and I have to say I’m a huge fan.

I really admired the FMC, Jet Mason. I honestly CRIED ugly tears for her. After suffering a (fatal) blow to the head, she’s left with a brain injury that will leave her dead in 7 days. She’s determined to find her murderer. Soon she suspects everyone around her but will she find WHO DID it in just a week?

Thanks to Netgally and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I have never read a book with this premise before and I absolutely loved it. Jet gets fatally injured, but the injury won't kill her for up to 7 days. She decides to solve her own murder in the week she hopes she has left to live.
It was definitely hard to put this book down. There were several twists that were surprises and I am hard to surprise because I read so many thriller and mystery books. This book also made me cry. I know that sounds weird because this is not a genre that has ever made me cry, hut here we are.
Go read this book! You won't be disappointed!

I love Holly Jackson books. This one broke my heart, yet what an interesting concept. I didn’t guess “who did it” until about 75% as it kept me guessing. I loved Jet and the ending happened pretty quickly.

DNFing this 25% in. There’s nothing wrong with the book - my tastes have changed. I loved Holly Jackson’s series and figured I’d love this too, and I probably would have if my interest in reading mysteries was still strong, but I’m just not interested in reading this genre at the moment.

Another amazing Holly Jackson book! Full of twists and tension, it kept me guessing the whole way through. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars rounded to 4 because I could not put this down.
The premise was a little odd- a woman who was attacked and now has a week to live and wants to solve her murder. It was so fast paced through, that you cannot stop reading. The clues she works through are interesting and it does keep you guessing. I thought I figured it out pretty early on and I was wrong. The ending makes complete sense and it’s explained very well, everything fits together to explain the entire plot.

I was obsessed with Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and have been a Holly Jackson fan ever since so I was excited for this and it didn’t disappoint.

Synopsis:

𝘐𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘑𝘦𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥.
After a brutal attack on Halloween, Jet Mason is left with a traumatic head injury that leaves the doctors certain: in one week, she will die from a resulting aneurysm. As the clock counts down the hours to her death day, Jet and her childhood best friend Billy team up to solve her murder before it's too late.

Where do i even start.. This book has been my most anticipated read of 2025 so as soon as my request got approved I immediately dropped everything to read it! It’s a classic Holly Jackson style book but this time labeled as an adult mystery. Due to holly’s writing you kinda feel like you’re reading a YA novel just with a few more swearing a deeper topics. (which don’t get me wrong i still loved)

As soon as I heard the books plot i had so many questions how this story would be shared and i wasn’t disappointed, i was immediately sucked into the story and could not put down my kindle. It’s such a unique plot with so many different twists and turns, and with the time crunch of one last week to live you really feel like you’re running around the town with billy and jet in her blue truck trying to solve her own murder before it’s too late. To shorten, It’s face paced, has so many complex characters with deep back stories, bittersweet moments, self exploration, and the thrill of feeling alive when you’re dying. There are so many Parallels to holly jackson’s past successful books so if you’re a fan you will definitely enjoy this!

I truly feel attached to these characters after reading this.

₊˚ʚ 🐸👖My sweet Jet (Margret) Mason deserves the absolute world!! I will not accept any kind of slander towards her.
She is a classic Holly Jackson FMC- witty, smart, sassy, and very rude. (which i love about her)
She’s a college drop out with ambitions but never having the energy to tick things off her to do list, always saying she’ll do it later until she can’t anymore. I loved watching her explore herself during her last days and i felt so bad for her in so many ways :((( i bet holly loved making her suffer

⋆🪕° 🐾 Billy Finney the best golden retriever. He is also the classic Holly Jackson MMC- kind, supportive, the sensitive emotional guide through jet’s final week. He feels so deeply which I can really relate to. He promises to never leave jet’s side and he never does. He helps her with all her wacky crazy ideas and a bit of rule breaking without a second thought.

The only thing stopping me from rating this 5 stars was the ending. I felt like it was rushed and last minute but it was still very heart breaking. Jet mason deserved so much more :(( Holly jackson is an amazing writer but this still very much felt like YA

Won’t give away too much before the release but i seriously loved every aspect of this book and would do anything to read it again. I created a playlist of the book and a pintrest board here:
