Holly Jackson with another impossible-to-put-down thriller, this time for adult readers.
The premise was great. Our MC has a week to live and spends that time trying to figure out who killed her. The ticking clock added so much suspense.
Though written as an adult book I felt it read young. The MC was in her late 20’s but seemed very teenager ish. The side characters were written well but with the exception of Billy and Reggie (the dog) all awful humans. It took all the sadness out of watching someone so terminally hurt.

After a brutal attack leaves Jet with just days to live, she races to uncover the truth… and her soon-to-be killer. This was fast-paced, full of secrets, and exactly the kind of twisty small-town mystery I expect from Holly Jackson. Darkly fun and a little unhinged in the best way.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

A unique thriller where the main character is trying to solve her own attempted murder. Lots of surprises, twists and secrets that are revealed along the way!

Holly Jackson is a queen of mystery, and this book is particularly iconic.
Jet has been violently attacked, and upon waking in hospital discovers that she will be dead within the week. Determined to identify her attacker - and soon to be murderer - she starts to unravel all kinds of secrets in her small town.
This book was so good! I was completely gripped from start to end, and completely blind sided by the final reveal. Really excellent murder mystery!
Thank you to the publisher for providing a review copy

The main character is insufferable I couldn’t finish this. It says it’s her first adult novel buts written like a YA. I appreciate the ARC but this fell flat for me.

I loved the premise for this thriller- a woman has to solve her murder in 7 days, and Holly Jackson's writing (as usual) was great- it wasn't just focused on the mystery, but also how the idea of solving your own murder would psychologically affect the protagonist Jet. It's a small town mystery so there's plenty of complicated family dynamics and secrets to uncover. I struggled a little bit with the character of Jet because while I understood why she was angry at some people in the book, she was downright rude to random characters for little to no reason (like the Mason construction workers). I also thought the plot was quite predictable at the end, but Holly Jackson definitely knows how to pull at your heartstrings! While this wasn't my favorite thriller, I'd recommend it to anyone intrigued by the premise and or anyone who wants a quick read.

Holly Jackson knows how to bring goosebumps to your arms so fast! I couldn’t put this book down and felt so connected to the characters.

Holly Jackson was a bit of a hit-or-miss for me - I LOVED AGGGTM and liked the Reappearance of Rachel Price and was let down by Five Survived. Therefore, I went into this one with low expectations, because I didn't want to get my hopes up. I kinda loved it. Is it flawless? No, but I read it in one day and had the time of my life. So, a very self-indulgent five star read for me. In reality, it's more of a 3.5 if you take into account all its flaws.
The book was fun to read because of the way it's written — I felt like I was actually in Jet's head. The writing complemented the character quite a lot, but it did seem a little juvenile at times, considering Jet is quite literally 27. But again, her sarcastic remarks were so funny, I just chose to ignore that small detail.
I liked the characters, but I think Billy was a tinyyy bit bland as a character, and I didn't really think the romance between them was developed enough to make it believable to me. I loved Jet as a character — she's quirky and very funny. The other characters don't matter that much, and I had no feelings towards them.
I have never seen the idea of this book anywhere else — and perhaps that is my fault for not searching more — but God!! Solving your own murder? FUN! Very unique plot, and I think Holly executed it quite well. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out who did what. I did see the final reveal coming, but it was still a satisfying ending. I did wonder for a bit if Jet will actually die or some miracle will happen, and I'm happy with how that was handled.
All in all, I did like reading this book — I finished it in a day, as it's very fast-paced and easy to read. I'm looking forward to Holly Jackson's future works — she's part of the authors I keep up with.

5 stars
I'm quite speechless. Not Quite Dead Yet is Holly Jackson's adult thriller debut and it confirms what I already knew: she is one of the best writers of this generation. The way she's able to weave fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat stories with engrossing characters, while also incorporporating a humorous key is simply incredible.
I loved every single minute I spent glued to my kindle reading this. The premise stoked my curiosity, the delivery sated it. Jet Mason, our main character, finds herself in a bit of an unexpected predicament: in a week, she'll be dead, and she must spend those final seven days trying to solve her own murder. With her is her childhood bestfriend, Billy. Will they find her killer in time?
I didn't. It wasn't until the 90% mark that I finally put the pieces together, and it was so satisfying. There is no better feeling than finishing a book and thinking "Oh, this is what the author was hinting at when she said this!"
The ending broke me, I literally had to stare at the wall for a few minutes before I could function again, I was crying so hard. But, the ending was perfect, no matter the liters of tears I shed upon reading chapter 32. And chapter 33 was sooooo satisfying, there is no better word to describe it.
I won't be able to stop talking about this book for days, weeks to come, it was that good!
Thank you to Netgalley and Ballantine for the eARC.

Jet is a 27 year old law school drop out living at home with her parents. On the night of her family business’s annual fundraiser, she is attacked in the kitchen with a blow to the back of her head. Jet’s childhood best friend, Billy, finds her and calls for help. Later, Billy is the person Jet turns to to help her solve her own murder.
The book is told In the timeline leading up to Jet’s death from the attack she suffered. The doctor informs Jet that her brain injury coupled with pre-existing kidney disease will cause an aneurysm to form and rupture within a week leading to her death. Jet has 2 options: have surgery that has a 10% chance of survival or wait a week and have a 0% chance of survival when the aneurysm ruptures. Despite her mother’s intense urging, Jet chooses to not have surgery and use her seven days to solve her own murder.
I ate this book up! It was so addicting - especially the last 25% or so. But even before that I constantly wanted to keep reading. I was rooting so hard for Jet (and Billy)! I loved following Jet and Billy as they worked to solve her impending murder and as their relationship grew. I loved the addition of the letters at the end, too (100% agree with her letter to Sophia, lol).
My only complaint (but not really that much of a complaint) is that this book is Holly Jackson’s first adult novel; however it still felt very YA to me. There wasn’t a stark difference in her writing style from her previous books, so it didn’t feel like these characters were in their late 20s. Didn’t take away from the story too much, but something that stuck out to me throughout the book. Overall this is another hit from Holly Jackson and I loved it.

wow! I am shaking in my boots. This was a gripping, heart wrenching, terrifying read, not that I expected anything less from our queen holly jackson. the ending was SO SAD, the author deff could've ended it better, like what was that!?
i loved billy tho, my cutie cinnamon roll <3
don't read this in the dark right before you go to bed! (im talking from experience, folks)

Holly Jackson does it again! I was invested from the very first page. I felt connected and invested in all of the characters, and I absolutely loved every single one of them. Holly Jackson is an author that I will always recommend to people, and Not Quite Dead proves that I can always count on her books bring amazing.

4.5 stars rounded up. This was such an interesting concept and I really enjoyed it. This is the authors first adult novel, it still read a bit young for me, I honestly did not even compute that the character was in her late 20's. That said, it didn't ruin the experience for me. This was such an emotional read for me and had me sobbing at the end but while I wish the ending would have played out differently, I do understand the choices the author made. From the start, this had be completely enthralled and I read in under a day. It was such a thrilling and captivating book and I just had to know how every thing was going to turn out. The author did a great job keeping me on my toes, I never really fully knew where the story was going to go. I had my theories but I could never fully commit to a single one. One of my theories turned out right but I did not expect every aspect. Overall, I really unique and thrilling read, that also left me stunned and heart broken by the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Like many others I was excited when Holly Jackson announced her adult debut because I really enjoy her YA mysteries. The concept also had me hooked right away: a woman investigating her own murder. This is definitely a page turner and I read it in only a few sittings. There are many parts of the story where you may need to suspend your disbelief, but the hunt for the murderer was entertaining. And there’s a bit of a romantic side plot that was also fun.
I will say, this does still read a bit YA to me, especially with the maturity level of the our main character, Jet. Being in her head, she felt more like a teenager than a 27 year old, just with a lot more cursing. This had the effect of making her less likable. That being said, it didn’t impact my overall enjoyment too much since I do also enjoy a YA mystery.
The ending of this felt a bit rushed to me, and I wasn’t entirely satisfied, but overall I did have a fun time with this, and I would recommend if you like Holly Jackson’s work!

I LOVE Holly Jackson! She has never disappointed me with a book. Not all authors can successfully switch genres but I absolutely devoured this adult thriller.
Jet is a late bloomer, unmotivated, and letting life pass her by. She is brutally attacked and given a ticking clock for her life, which is the jump start she needs. The plot was original and I was cheering for Jet the entire time.

Not Quite Dead Yet is one of my most anticipated releases of the year, so I was incredibly excited to be gifted an ARC. Although this was my first Holly Jackson book, I've watched the TV series A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, based on Jackson's series of the same name. I had high hopes for this book, and it totally delivered!
Not Quite Dead Yet starts out at a fall carnival on Halloween evening in Woodstock, Vermont. Margaret, who goes by Jet, is the daughter of a wealthy family who owns the local construction company, Mason Construction. As such, she knows all of the major players in town. Jet briefly talks with JJ, her ex, at the carnival along with a few others, including her rather unlikeable brother, Luke, and her ex-best friend turned sister-in-law, Sophia. Her lifelong neighbor and friend Billy is also there. After leaving the carnival, Jet is attacked and fatally injured, although the injury won't result in her death for another week. Jet is living on borrowed time and wants to solve her eventual murder. She enlists Billy to help her, and they proceed to dig up town secrets that have long been buried.
Jet lives what her family would consider a directionless life. However, Jet comes into her own and finds a purpose and lives life to the fullest the week following her 'murder' as she investigates leads and the people she has known her whole life. Billy is a total golden retriever and supports Jet any way that he can. Unfortunately, most of the Masons prove to be as lackluster about loving Jet as she is actively dying as they have been for her previous 27 years. I won't go into any more detail so as to avoid revealing any hints or spoilers, but, suffice it to say, the characters are all distinct, flawed, and interesting.
Not Quite Dead Yet is an awesome mystery that keeps you guessing. I had an inkling from the very beginning of the book as to who the murderer was, but I didn't have any evidence. The novel takes many turns and a lot of information is revealed as you read. I love stories like this that unfold almost like a movie. The premise of solving your murder while you're still alive is original and makes for an incredibly fun read!
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was so good! After reading the first chapter, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like this book as much as I liked Holly Jackson’s other books, but DAMN!
I absolutely loved this!
Holly Jackson has done it again! Everyone needs to go and read this as soon as it comes out because it is amazing! I don’t want to spoil anything because it hasn’t come out yet so I’m gonna be keeping most of my thoughts to myself for a little bit.
The characters were so fun and I loved them! Jet was hilarious and so fun and honestly, very relatable. Billy was so cute and sweet and just such a good love interest!
And I would never have guessed the killer!
All in all, this book was amazing and I will not listen to any complaints about it!
😘❤️😍

Holly Jackson did a wonderful job with her first novel as a re-release I think it is a classic mystery, thriller, suspense that we bookies enjoy! The twists, turns, and the emotional heartstrings that were invested in finding Jet's killer before she herself passes. Having been attacked, the timeline in this book is very condensed, but it truly works. I was a huge fan of Jet and her pursuing her own resolve. Power to the FMC! If you enjoy Holly Jackson and twists and turns, someone in their mid-to-late 20's, and modern times I believe that you will love this just as I did! I did not put all the pieces together and it was surprising to me, I enjoyed it nonetheless! I got through this in 24 hours and I am not sad about it!! Thank you so much to Netgalley, Ballantine Publishing, and Holly Jackson for the ARC!

After being attacked in her kitchen on Halloween, Jet wakes up in the hospital with only a week to live and sets out to find her killer.
I loved loved loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The constant anxiety was so worth it. Knowing the entire book that the main character is going to die… what a ride. The author wrote that part of the plot perfectly. It was funny, it was sad, it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Small town living and family dysfunction at its finest. This is Holly Jackson’s first adult novel and she really knocked it out of the park!
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley!

Am a huge fan of Holly Jackson and her ya novels. I was super excited to get this book because it sounded fantastic. The idea was new and interesting and I couldn't wait to read it. It immediately went to the top of my TBR pile.
Needless to say I could not put this book down. I started it Mid-Afternoon while my kids were swimming in the pool. Thinking I was just going to read for a few hours while they were in the pool.. I didn't put the book down until close to midnight. I had to finish it. I had to know who did it. Had to know how it wrapped up.
I sort of figured out the killer before it was announced. It seemed obvious once I figured it out and it was announced, but Holly Jackson did such a good job placing seeds of doubt. + Suspicion on several other characters. For most of the book. I thought one person did it + he was innocent the whole time. That is the mark of a a great author, and I can't wait to read whatever she thinks of next.
Thank you netgalley for this Arc in exchange for an honest review.
