I don't think anyone will ever understand my obsession with Holly Jackson's books.

And this one was AMAZAING!!!!

Netflix should pick this one up too.

Now The ending killed me, because I still has some hope.

But it was still amazing.

ೃ⁀➷“I'm going to solve my own murder.”

plot: In seven days Jet Mason will be dead. Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. On Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder, she suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm. Now she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend. She has at most seven days, and as her condition deteriorates she has only her childhood friend Billy for help. But nevertheless, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something: Jet is going to solve her own murder.

ೃ⁀➷ " Because, Billy, I haven't really been dying. I think, maybe, its the opposite.I've finally been living. And that's all because of you."

characters: Billy is the sweetest man ever I am litterly obsessed with him. At the beginning, I was annoyed at how Jet was so rude to him but throughout the book I started to love the two of them more and more. Honestly other then them, there are no other good characters. I also wanted to add that I love how this book is adult - it feels a lot funnier and I think this age category is genuinely what Holly is meant to write.

pacing: I was in SUCH a big reading slump this past month, but this book is the only one that got me out of it. I was constantly binge reading this book, huge chunks every day. I also was never bored and I always wanted to read this book.

ending: For me, Holly Jackson books are meant to be shocking till the very last second. Unfortunately for me, I guessed the plot twist about 50 pages from the end of the book. Its not that big of a deal but it lost the shock factor for me. The other ending though - the emotional ending; that really did it for me. I think it was the best ending Holly could have chosen.

✧.* if you love any Holly Jackson book just read this. It was such a fun time but also suspenseful, and very emotional at the end.

This book started out extremely strong for me. I loved the premise of Jet having to solve her own murder within a week before she dies. Things took a turn for the worse in the second half - it just felt like there was way too much going on. I will admit I did not predict the ending, but it fell a little flat given how much I liked the first half of the book.

Having read “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” I was expecting some good twists and mystery, and this book definitely delivered. It took me about half to book to sort of like Jet, the main character but her weird sense of humor finally grew on me. However, she came off as much younger than 27 and was really kind of a brat a lot of the book for no reason. Billy was an awesome character but there were a lot of random people to keep track of, especially being introduced very quickly in the first chapter. I did guess some of the plot twists but not the main one til a couple chapters before the reveal, so I count that as a plus for the book. I did have a good time with the overall story and I can appreciate some morbid death jokes when you know you’re gonna die in a week. So it was a solid 4 stars if you can get past the sort of YA-leaning main character.

Thank you to NetGalley & Bantam for letting me read & review this book!

Thank you so much to Holly Jackson, Ballantine Books, and NetGalley for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

In real life, Holly Jackson has a funny sense of humor, somewhat dark, a little ironic and just enjoyable. I experienced this once after attending a live book talk and briefly getting to meet her. I begin this way because the protagonist in this book, Jet, is funny in a blunt, dark humor, kind of way and I AM HERE FOR IT.

The premise of this one is interesting -- Jet, she's 27 or so (which feels odd because I am used to Jackson's other characters being much younger) but her character reads like that of a teenage girl. It was sometimes hard to remember that she is 27 because she doesn't really have life figured out at all. Jet doesn't really have much figured out in the way of a career or a love life. On Halloween night, she walks into her parents' home and is shockingly attacked, struck from behind, and left for dead. Except, she doesn't die. Not then anyway, because Jet awakens in a hospital bed and is told that, despite doctors performing a surgery on her head, there is still a shard of bone in her brain that, ultimately, will kill her in no less than 7 days. In that time, Jet decides that she is on the hunt to solve her own murder.

I honestly think this is my favorite Holly Jackson book to date because I just LOVED Jet. I like how dark her humor is, her personality, and her take-no-sh!t personality. Plus, the mystery is intriguing and kept me reading. I also did not see the ending coming for a while, which was refreshing to not guess the mystery too early on. Plus, Billy. Oh man, Billy, What a sweetheart!

I highly recommend this Holly Jackson book -- I finished it in a day which should be telling of how much I loved it!

So glad Holly Jackson is also writing non YA thrillers!

This premise was so unique and fresh, and I loved it.

Jet is a no-nonsense character who takes her life and death into her own hands, and works to solve her own murder.

Holly Jackson has done it again! This was such an intriguing plot, that had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved Jet! Her character was the type of main character I love seeing from Holly. The courage and strength this character showed throughout the book was amazing, all while still finding a way to express humor when it comes to a heavy subject. Holly has such a great way of writing where everything is so easy for me to picture it and gets me to care about the characters. I laughed and cried while reading this one and it will be one that I'll think of for a long time. If you are looking for a good mystery/thriller to keep you guessing until the very end then this is the book for you.

Oh my...4.5 Stars! There were so many twists and turns throughout the course of the book that kept me on my toes the whole time. Jet, who is attacked and is only given a week to live, decides to take it upon herself to try and solve her murder. I will be honest, I tried to go into this blind (without really reading the synopsis) and am so glad I did. The way Holly writes that really brings her stories to life and makes you want to follow along with Jet as she tries to solve her murder. I will say, the "after" chapter that helps brings us closer after Jet's death was the perfect way to end the book. I am still shook over the last couple pages and how it ends. This is Holly Jackson's first adult thriller and I hope it won't be her last. I cannot wait for this to be released, so everyone can meet and love Jet Mason.

On Halloween night, Jet comes home to her parents’ house, where she is currently living, and is hit in the head three times. She wakes up two days later to be told that she can either have emergency surgery with a 10% chance of survival, or she can go untreated and live for at most a week. She decides to live for a week and use that week to solve her own murder.
With twists and turns, the story unfolds several family secrets.

This book was an overall great time! A fun, new concept and well written. Totally lived up to what I was hoping for!

Thank you NetGalley and Bantam for this ARC!

This is only my second foray into the world of Holly Jackson's writing, and I'm so, so glad to report that it doesn't suffer for being the sophomore outing. With "Not Quite Dead Yet," Jackson turns a murder mystery on its head, as protagonist Margaret "Jet" Mason embarks on a mission to solve her own murder. (No, there's nothing supernatural at work, just the sort of complication that comes at the hands of the mysteries of the human body and medical world.) There's a literal countdown at hand, and there's no escaping it; Jackson's writing is urgent, terse, and drives relentlessly through to a climax that I didn't, for all of my guesses, totally see coming. An excellent read to kick off June, and I will DEFINITELY be returning for more of HJ's work.

As someone who reads a lot of thrillers, they can get very predictable. I found the storyline to be totally unique and really interesting and it kept me engaged until the end. I did get attached to the main character and found myself sad after the ending which I think is the mark of a good book. I did feel like there was a little bit too many twists and storylines in the book which is why I gave four stars instead of five.

Holly Jackson writing an adult thriller so of course I had to read and it didn’t disappoint. The premise was very interesting.

Our main character Jet is in coma after an attack where she couldn’t see who attack her and doctors are saying she only got 7 days.

She comes from the one of the wealthiest family in Vermont but never considered anyone being her enemy but now that she is in coma with limited time she has to figure out who was behind this. She only got her best friend Billy to help her. The twist and turns were amazing and the whole book really pulled my heartstrings. Loved it so much.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballentine for providing me with this eARC. All opinions are my own honest opinions.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a huge Holly Jackson fan and like that she transitioned to an adult novel. I thought the characters were interesting, but found the ending a little convoluted.

3.5 stars. I really liked the concept; it was new and interesting. It was fast-paced, action-packed and kept you guessing. However, it did slog a little for me in the middle. I appreciated that things didn't just turn out a-ok. I really thought that was going to happen. I guessed some of the twists, but I didn't figure out who the killer was until almost the end. This book had a lot of secrets revealed and a lot of red herrings, almost to the point that it seemed unbelievable, especially since Jed’s <spoiler>entire family each had major secrets</spoiler>.

I really disliked Jet. I have heard multiple times that this book is adult, not YA. It has been emphasized that this is the author's first adult book, but Jet read as a 17 year old, not a 27 year old. She was unlikable and annoying for most of the book. She obsessed about finding out who killed her, to the exclusion of spending time with family and saying goodbye. She did spend the week with Billy, almost because it was the only place she could go, and it was nice to see her grow and finally figure out that there are more important things in life than proving a point. <spoiler>Of course, it was right before she died.</spoiler>

It really bothered me that Jet and Billy went around questioning people and finding out secrets and then they would just confront the person, even though a lot of these secrets were criminal. Jet was going to die so there was no way for her to make sure these criminal acts would not continue after her death. Again, it seemed like nothing else mattered but finding her killer.

The ending was a little crazy and I thought Billy should have foreseen it since <spoiler>he knew about Luke's inability to control his rage. Billy’s plan to catch the killer didn’t make sense either because the killer says Billy has a gun on the recording</spoiler>. I wish there had been another chapter or an epilogue. It felt like the book just ended and we didn't get as much closure as I would have liked.

Not Quite Dead Yet is a twisty, binge-worthy read and the perfect cure for a reading slump! Jet was a refreshingly flawed and relatable protagonist—I saw so much of myself in her. The pacing kept me hooked, and the plot twist at the end genuinely caught me off guard in the best way. A thrilling, unexpected ride from start to finish

I am so disappointed with this book. I’ve liked all of Holly Jackson’s YA books so I was excited that this was an adult novel, but it didn’t feel like one. The characters were supposed to be in their late 20’s, but felt way younger than that. It read very YA still just with older characters and more cussing. It also drove me nuts that everyone stuttered, not just Jet because if her injury. I don’t know why this was a thing. The whole book was so far fetched and the ending was awful. No one ended up being accountable for anything. I was really excited to read this, but it was a let down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

With a ticking time bomb in her head literally, Jet Mason has seven days to solve her *own* murder. With such a thrilling premise, my expectations were set but Holly Jackson definitely met them.

I love a duo that has to team up and unravel a mystery together, and old childhood friends Jet and Billy were quite endearing. Although some parts in the middle dragged and there were some reveals I thought were a tad obvious, as a whole the plot was thought out and had a satisfying conclusion. There were also some very touching moments and a genuine message that readers can pull from this story. Other than an unnecessary third act “break up” (if you can even really call it that) that is immediately moved past, the last chunk of the book was easily the strongest.

Strap yourselves in for the ending is all I will say.
