I ATE THIS UP!! I had to forcibly stop myself from staying up all night to finish this on my first reading session. Holly Jackson is the QUEEN of mystery and I adore each and every web she weaves. I was worried that this book wouldn't live up to my expectations and I have never been more happy to be wrong! Sometimes I'm worried that I'll regret buying a copy of a book in case I won't want to reread it, but I'm glad to report this will enter my yearly reread pile along with her AGGGTM trilogy! I'm begging for Holly to write more adult fiction because she knocked this one out of the park! I felt so much for Jet by the end and I can honestly say this is the first Jackson book that made me cry and need to go find my husband for a hug. I am VERY picky when it comes to a mystery/thriller book and this hit just right for me. There was obviously some scary situations in the plot but they read in a way that didn't make me anxious in real life which is exactly how I want my mysteries and thrillers to be. This is easily my favorite read of the month and in the consideration for the best book of the year! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

Woman solves her own murder in 7 days- what an interesting premise! can honestly say I’ve never read anything like this before and that’s a great thing!

This is her first with adult characters, but we still get the twisty, inhalable story we’ve come to love.

Also, Jeeeeetttttt 😭😭😭😭😭

I finished this one a week and a half ago, unfortunately my review is late because of my own medical misfortunes
BUT I have to say I absolutely loved this one!
Holly Jackson is so incredibly talented with writing stories that pull you in from the start and keep you guessing until the very end. Jet is probably one of my favorite female characters ever written, she was so funny, witty, and sarcastic and I adored that, especially given her circumstances. And even though you know from the start how the book will partially end, it didn't keep me from crying none of the less. HIGHLY recommend this one!!

Not Quite Dead Yet is Holly Jackson's first adult novel, and I LOVED the more mature tone of the story. Jet's aggressive need to find her killer kept the narrative pushing forward at the perfect pace to keep me addicted. I also give kudos to all the plot twists and turns. There were multiple times when I was shocked at where the story took us. I give this book a solid 5/5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for providing an ARC of Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson. All opinions are my own

Jackson takes the saying of “Dead Woman Walking” to a whole other level with this powerful thriller.
🧠
In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead. She knows this because on Halloween night she entered her home, was bludgeoned to near-death only to wake up in a hospital room with a doctor saying she’s going to die of a brain aneurysm in less than a week’s time. Jet thinks that’s time enough to find out who wanted her dead. With the help of her childhood best friend and neighbor, Jet combs every surface, looking for clues and breaking laws along the way, knowing she won’t have any real consequences. As she gets closer to the truth, her life becomes even more perilous because someone doesn’t want her discovering the truth before she dies.

This is @hojay92 adult debut and wow! Talk about unique and original—I never would have thought to have a plot revolve around solving ones’s own murder! Jet took me a second to love, but once I did I was all in. I just adored sweet Billy as well. I can’t wait to see what craziness Jackson cooks up in her next adult #suspense novel! (Her YA stuff is pretty awesome too 😉)

I can honestly say that Holly Jackson’s newest book, Not Quite Dead Yet, blew me away, in the best way possible. I was initially very intrigued by the premise of this book as it was highly unique and I have liked Holly Jackson’s previous books, especially Five Survive. This novel focuses on Jet, a 27 year old living in Vermont who has just a week to figure out who intended to kill her when she was attacked on Halloween night after attending a festival. Jet’s attack has resulted in a traumatic head injury that will trigger a deadly aneurysm in seven days; Jet cannot waste any time solving her own murder before she dies. Although this novel was great, I will say that the first chapter of the book was off putting to me as the author introduced so many different characters that it got confusing, but after that, the writing gets so much better and leaves you wanting to keep reading to figure out the mystery. I really did like the big reveal at the end as I did not really see it coming until I was almost at the end of the book. There are a lot of twists in the novel, some of which were very unexpected, which I liked. I really loved the ending of the book even though it was really sad and heartbreaking. The letters included at the end of the book especially touched me and made me feel emotional as I was very invested in Jet and her character. I really liked this book and I am sure a lot of other people will! This is a great mystery/thriller novel with a unique twist to it.

This is my first Holly Jackson novel (and her adult debut) and it will not be my last. From the slightly irreverent main character Jet, to the spooky Halloween setting in Woodstock, Vermont to the cast of characters behaving badly Not Quite Dead Yet is a propulsive book that will have readers twisting and turning and holding their breath until the end. When 27 year-old Jet is attacked in her home on Halloween night the would-be killer screwed up., he didn't kill her...yet. Jet somehow survived the vicious attack and wakes up in the hospital to disturbing news: she survived the attack but her brain injury is a ticking time bomb-she will be dead in 7 days or less (Jackson does well to describe the diagnosis and physiology behind it). Jet, who seemingly never finishes anything, is determined to find out who killed her-before she dies. She and her former best friend Billy team up as the detectives hone in on a convenient suspect. Just when you think the suspect is one person, another likely candidate or two emerges and everyone has secrets-including Jet. Jet's dialogue and personality is funny and irreverent as I mentioned and by the end I was strongly rooting for her. Pick this one up-you will not be disappointed. 4.5 stars.

I was shocked at the ending but I was surprised j was able to guess who the murderer was. I changed my answer but I was more confident in my first. This book was so good, kept me interested, didn't want to put it down and really enjoyed it. Thank you Holly for another amazing book

Not Quite Dead Yet - Holly Jackson

⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Because, Billy, this past week, I haven't really been dying. I think, maybe, it's the opposite. I've finally been living. And that's all because of you.”

Jet Mason is brutally attacked on Halloween and told she has only a week to live due to a pending aneurysm brought on by a head injury. With time running out, she refuses surgery and instead launches a relentless investigation into her own attempted murder, racing through lies, betrayals, and buried secrets in her small town—with only her childhood friend Billy at her side.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC! I felt like Jackson’s dive into the adult thriller space was not a huge splash. Jet was truly an insufferable main character. Her brash sense of humor was all she had going for her but even that got old. The small thriller twists were so random and barely connected at the end of the book. I sadly couldn’t wait for Jet’s time to run out.

I initially loved this book but the more I sat after finishing it I kept finding plot holes or things that didn't really make much sense. The premise was amazing and having to solve your own murder even better. I still would recommend this book it just left me with questions. I know this is the first adult thriller from the author and the suspense is until very last page. Get ready for some trauma by the end of this book as Holly Jackson always delivers.

Jet Mason has seven days to solve her own murder before a fatal head injury takes her life. As time runs out, she must uncover which of her loved ones or enemies, wanted her dead.

I loved this!! The premise is so heart wrenching, and I read half the of the book in complete denial. I just love Holly’s writing! This reminded me of the same feelings I had reading a good girls guide to murder. I also appreciate that Holly is always able to balance between writing a mystery that isn’t extremely dark but will always push the boundaries of what you expect. These are the type of thrillers I love! That freaking twist!!

The things I didn’t love - I kept reading the main characters as teens but they’re in their late 20s. I think some of Jets decisions didn’t make sense to me but then again she was facing the most extreme situation! So who would ever logically make sense?! I teared up at the ending it was so sad.

Thank you to Ballantine Books and NetGalley for this ARC!

In seven days Jet Mason will be dead.
Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time.
Until Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder.
She suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm.
Jet has never thought of herself as having enemies. But now she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend.
She has at most seven days, and as her condition deteriorates she has only her childhood friend Billy for help. But nevertheless, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something:

Jet is going to solve her own murder.

I am glad I stuck this one out for the ending but it was hard to get through the first half. I pretty much hated Jet for most of the book and thought her treatment of people better be related to the brain injury because she is a B****! The characters were just not that likable and I really didn't care for any of them except Billy-but I just felt sorry for him because he had no balls. Any who, if you can stick with it, the ending is a bit of a twist and may make up for Jet's SBB (spoiled brat behavior). I'm an adult woman who enjoys some YA authors and I have enjoyed her other books much more than this one!

I absolutely enjoyed this! My first tackle into this author's work and I was so excited about it. And let me tell you - this kept my attention all the way through. This started off sprinting and it didn't stop. I loved Jet and her sarcasm and her approach to this challenge of having only seven days to live and wanting to solve her own murder. You jump on this ride with her, along with Billy, and you just root and root and root for things to turn out the way Jet wants.

Now that my adrenaline rush of writing about Jet has calmed a bit, I can't rave enough about the overall thrill ride that it is. But then the author throws a wrench and counter attacks with emotions that I didn't realize was going to be that impactful. Truly, I loved this book. The author typically wrote YA books, and it showed in some area in this being her first adult thriller, and I didn't mind that at all. The story itself was fun enough to have me wanting to go back to read more and more. That ending got me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bantam Books and the author for a copy of this. All opinions are my own.

What a crazy ride. I will read anything Holly Jackson writes and this was good! Not gonna lie, I got a little annoyed with some characters but it didn’t last long because this book was so fast paced! Another book that makes you think about the way you are living, while also solving your own murder?

“But, was it really a waste of time, if I loved every minute of it?”

3.25 stars. Thank you Netgalley for proving me with this e-arc. Sooo…it was good but it wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. I’ve noticed now that her characters are starting to just look like mirrors to me. They have very limited differences in characteristics and it’s starting to feel very repetitive. Her love interests are often the best written, but otherwise most characters lack defined personality and depth. The plot was interesting albeit some parts a bit predictable and medically inaccurate. Five Survive and AGGTM are my favs of hers and I’m not sure they’re going to be beat unless she creates some stronger characters the next go around. Sadly just a bit underwhelmed.

P.s. if you have a gigantic aneurysm, how are you enduring great stress, running, surviving a literal structure fire, etc. I’m sorry..girl that bitch would’ve burst DAYS ago.r

I'm a huge fan of all Holly Jackson books, and the TV shows based on them, so I was really excited to dive into Not Quite Dead Yet. I knew it wouldn’t disappoint, especially since it steps outside her usual YA lane. I devoured this book and was completely entertained the whole way through. It reads like a movie or a fast-paced show, and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what she does next, this book opens up so many new possibilities for her storytelling!

The premise of this book is stunning - Jet manages to survive a brutal attack, but due to complications, only has a week to live. And she's determined to use that week to solve her murder.

I went through so many theories while reading this because Jackson is so good at eeking out clues and weaving threads. The family is messy with many of their own secrets, which is one of my favorite things about thrillers - all of the crazy stuff that comes out about the people connected to the victim, and Jackson did all of that really well. I was invested through the whole book, as anxious as Jet was to figure out the next thing.

I also loved Jet's growth and the relationship she had with her former best friend, Billy. They were a wonderful black cat/golden retriever duo that balanced each other out and also didn't have a bunch of pressure on them to be anything. It felt organic and well thought out.

The ending was emotional and twisty and wild. I think Holly Jackson did an amazing job with this adult debut!

Not Quite Dead Yet left me absolutely shattered—I'm still recovering from the emotional devastation!

This is my first Holly Jackson novel, and I'm already planning to devour her entire backlist. "Not Quite Dead Yet" is a thriller that hurts—and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. The concept is brilliant: Jet Mason survives a brutal attack but has exactly seven days before a bone fragment triggers a fatal aneurysm. Seven days to solve her own attempted murder. I knew it wasn't wise to get attached to a protagonist with a literal death sentence—but how could I not fall for Jet and her loyal childhood friend Billy?

This is Holly Jackson's first adult novel, and based on this incredible experience, I can see why her YA thrillers have such a devoted following. Her storytelling is absolutely addictive. For once, I didn't immediately clock the killer, which made the revelations hit even harder. What sets this apart is how the author weaves themes of mortality and unfulfilled potential throughout. Jet's desperation to finally finish something—to solve her own case before time runs out—becomes deeply personal. The final chapters completely wrecked me. 💔

I devoured this book, completely absorbed by characters who leap off the page. It felt like I was solving Jet's murder alongside her and Billy. Holly Jackson has created something special—a thriller that's as much about living as it is about dying, wrapped in a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end.

Not Quite Dead Yet is perfect for fans of emotional thrillers, ticking clock mysteries, and anyone ready to have their heart thoroughly broken.

From the very first chapter I was asking questions. I love a thriller that can make me question everything! To be honest, if I was Jet, I’d probably do the same exact thing!

I have a special spot in my heart for mysteries that make me question EVERYONE, and this was no exception. Jet and Billy were the sleuth squad I never knew I needed. Jet had her moments and I did find some of the book to become quite repetitive, but the slow burn and all of the twists made up for it (AND THERE WERE SO MANY). The ending also broke my heart a little but we’ll be ok 🥹
