I love that this is a new middle grade series AJ Torres and the Treasure of Captain Grayshark is a hilarious gem of a tale.

There sure are a lot of ghosts running around Miami. In the first book we had Benny Ramirez trying to guide his abuel’s spirit to the afterlife, Now A.J. Torres has a pirate who has unfinished treachery in the land of the living. Lucky for our protagonists, Andrea Wade, resident ghost expert is available.

AJ finds a coin that he suspects is from the lost bounty of Captain Grayshark. He knows the single coin is valuable, but what if he can find the complete treasure? With such a boon, his best friend Jayden would not have to move to Jacksonville so his mom could get a better paying job. The idea of getting filthy rich is awesome, but keeping his best bud in Miami is priceless!

This book was good. I am 11 year old and I feel that this book was good and my favorite character was A.J Torres the MMC. He was my favorite because he was smart and an excellent investigator. I liked that he was able to find the treasure and follow the map. I think this book was entertaining and it will teach kids to how to be good investigators.

I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's | Knopf Books for Young Readers through NetGalley.
Readers join AJ and his friend Jayden as they seek ways that Jayden and his mom can stay in Miami rather than move away. One option is searching for buried treasure; to their surprise, they find a real gold coin and set off to learn more about the rest of the pirate's hoard. Irarte writes with a light touch and introduces readers to the history of piracy off the Miami coast. He uses characters to offer this information as part of the story, and even includes the typical reactions these boys would have to this. I appreciate the way the author develops the characters and shows how the "curse" affects them as well as the pirate ghosts they encounter. The living and the dead have to work together to find the shipwreck and free the crew to move on.
Mid to upper elementary level readers will appreciate the friendship squabbles and the challenges when a friend has to move away. Plus, who can resist the lure of pirate treasure.

This was a very fun book. I really like the pirate aspect of the book. Captain Grayshark was very different. I would recommend this book to a kid that loves an adventure book.
