Quite possibly my favorite book on creative thinking/being since Steven King's "On Writing". No gentle advice to be found here - Mann wants you to stop fussing and get to work, and the stories she shares of her many failings, stumblings, and the winding, rocky path she took to becoming an artist will encourage anyone.

Lovely. I found much to reassure me that the creative life is one worth pursuing. It is a gift that Sally Mann shares her experience with grace, wisdom and generosity.

Sally Mann writes with raw honesty about the creative process and what it means to live fully as an artist. Her unwavering commitment to her vision and refusal to compromise is deeply inspiring. A must-read for anyone drawn to the inner world of artists.

I love Sally Mann's photos and her writing. This book was a lovely surprise and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This book belongs to the growing category of artists memoirs that encourage the reader's creativity too. I loved hearing about Mann's failures and reading her venting sessions with her friends. Iwas impressed by her daring and jealous of her luck in meeting people who could help her career. But mostly, she just kept doing the work.

I've loved Mann's photography for many years. Until now, I had not read any of her writing. It was surprising in it's flow and much more literary than I was expecting. I love how she approaches many of her stories, with unexpected introductions.

Sally Mann is so unique a completely open unguarded personality,No matter what she is dealing with .A true artist reading about her life her friends family was entertaining.Life is definitely not always easy for her but her spirit shines through.#netgalley #abrams

Sally Mann's writing is intelligent, thoughtful and engaging. I commiserated with her struggles, grieved her misfortunes, and laughed when she recounted life's foibles and crazy turns. In short, a complete life is depicted in these pages; the writing and her creative imagery and impulses are noted in vivid and luminescent prose. Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
