Thank you New Harbinger Publications and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Elisa Nebolsine has brought together the key concepts of CBT, ACT and DBT therapies and explained them in an easy to understand way for teens.

These therapies are explored through case examples specially related to teens and problems they may encounter. Relevant tools and psychological techniques are then explained and shown how to apply in really clear step by step methods. The worksheets for this book are also provided in a link within the book to access online through New Harbinger in one convenient place.

The book commences with CBT principles and really helps the reader to understand, identify and untangle their NATS (negative automatic thoughts). It then moves through to ACT and DBT therapies, tying these all together nicely, showing the importance of not believing all our thoughts and importantly, accepting that we all have NATS and we all have the power to change these into healthier, more positive thoughts.

This wonderful book is an invaluable resource for teens and adults alike, particularly for those who are unable to access professional help, although this book is a fabulous accompaniment to any professional help sought. The exercises provided gently lead the reader step by step and at the end of this book every person will have access to a fabulous array of strategies from which they can create their own personal toolkit. The only resource required is time, pen and paper,

Some of my favourite strategies were breathing colours, thought parade and build an acceptance garden.

My teen has enjoyed this book and has been using some of the strategies already but had identified more to add to her toolkit. I have also added to mine current toolkit and love the variety and playfulness this has offered.

I enjoyed this book immensely and highly recommend this to teens, those working with teens and of course adults too. This book is suitable for anyone wishing to live a fuller, more confident, authentic version of themselves ,

Thank you for this ARC and the opportunity to provide my honest review.

Thoughts and Feelings for Teens is a guide and workbook that focuses on the principles of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance & Commitment therapy. The goal of this workbook is to help teens understand their internal thought processes and finish the workbook with better control and understanding of their emotions.

The chapters of the workbook include focus on the following principles: Identifying and learning to manage your "automatic thoughts"; identifying and counteracting "thinking traps", or ways of thinking that are inherently unhelpful, such as "black and white thinking"; hitting pause by using relaxation strategies such as mindfulness; psychoeducation on the power and importance of "behavioral activation"; managing distressing situations with the use of various "distress tolerance" skills; and utilizing "exposure therapy" to face your fears head-on and come out stronger on the other side. This is only a brief peek into the variety of principles and examples included throughout this workbook! Each chapter includes a description of the therapeutic principle in a way that is easy for teens to comprehend, followed by specific and concise examples of how the concept that is being taught would fit into everyday life. Also included in each chapter are several worksheets, charts, and reflective questions for the reader to fill out.

Overall, I found this workbook to be very expansive! In my work as a child/adolescent mental health therapist, I can definitely see this workbook coming in handy for use in sessions, or to provide as a recommendation for clients or families to utilize outside of sessions. This workbook is helpful for clinical use, but can also be very powerful for a motivated teen to use on their own or with the support of a parent. I really enjoyed how Nebolsine pulled from all 3 therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, and ACT) to create a comprehensive guide that includes the most important principles from all 3!

Thank you to NetGalley, New Harbinger Publications, and Elisa Nebolsine, LCSW for providing an advanced digital ARC of this workbook in exchange for my honest review. Thoughts and Feelings for Teens is available for purchase beginning May 1, 2025!
