Another Fine Mess
This Book will be available April 15, 2025

“Making sure dead things stay buried is the family business…”

The Evans women are back in another Bless your Heart novel, working on recovering from events that took place in the first book. Set in a small town, this novel feels like a cozy mystery with some horror and gore elements. The Evans family are the towns undertakers, Lenore and her granddaughter Luna are attempting to rebuild their lives after the events that took place in the first book. They Evans facing difficulty in rebuilding because disturbing event continue to happen. Trouble is still lurking and causing issues in their small southeastern Texas town. The Evans girls are trying to figure what or who is behind these attacks with the help of the newly appointed sheriff.

Lindy Ryan has created a novel that is so vivid that you can picture the small southern town setting. All of her characters are likely and some even relatable. I don’t usually like gore but even with the graphic descriptions the audiobook is very easy to listen to. I love the strong female characters that are just trying to help the town by stopping these attacks. During all this Luna is trying to figure out who she is, besides just a teenager since her mother’s passing. Lenore, who lost both her mother and daughter in the last book takes over the responsibilities of running the mortuary. I really enjoyed seeing how this close knit family learns and begins to let other people into their circle.

I really enjoyed the narrator Stephanie Nemeth Parker and the voices she gave to the characters. This book is face paced, and filled with dark humor. The Evans women are the type of people you keep your distance from while still rooting for them from afar. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio as well as Lindy Ryan for the Advance Listening Copy of this book. This review is written voluntarily and my own words.

This book was really fun. However, I had a hard time with the pacing and plot and that is obviously on me and not the book. I recognize that it has great potential to appeal to other readers and I encourage others to try it out! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.

Five stars for a story that shows horror at its best. I’ve been waiting a year for the follow-up to “Bless Your Heart,” and it exceeded my expectations!

This story picks up about a month after the incredible ending of “Bless Your Heart” and finds the small Texas town putting things back together. The Evans women have a job to do caring for the dead of the town. But something is not right. There is a monster out there, and something needs to be done. This story takes off from the first page, and it doesn’t let you go until the end.

I want to discuss every aspect of this book! The characters went in directions I was not expecting. I can confidently say that this book told a very unexpected story, and I loved it! It was exciting, emotional, heartbreaking, and hopeful. I’m hoping for more. I can’t even begin to imagine where this story goes from here, but I am here for it!

People do not always give horror credit for just how emotional the story can be. There’s a moment in this one where I saw where it was heading, and I had to pause the audiobook to prepare myself. That is just great writing and great storytelling. Horror never gets enough credit for this.

This is the second book in this series, and it is the second time Stephanie Nemeth Parker has given voices to all of these amazing characters. She is the Evans women. Every character gets its own unique voice. She is absolutely amazing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book early. It is terrific, and everything that I hoped it would be. It releases on April 15th. If you haven’t read this stories yet, you have plenty of time to catch up! I highly recommend this book and this series!

Okay it's official, I can only listen to these books and not read them. With both the first and second books in this series, I initially tried reading ARCs but just could not find my way into the stories. I then stumbled upon a free version of the first book in audio, and absolutely loved everything about it. The narration was excellent and the story captivated me. I figured maybe once I had fallen into the characters and world so completely, I would be able to read the second book.

Once again, no dice.

I just don't seem to find my way into the characters' lives when I read them. This is very unusual for me - so perhaps it really does just come down to the narration, which is excellent. I loved this second book and seeing where Ryan took her characters and her world. I cannot wait to see where things go next, because it didn't exactly end on a cliffhanger but it did leave a lot of loose ends with great potential.

This is a darkly fun and original take on the classic vampire trope, but it is also so much more than that. It is about family - born and made - and about secrets and possibilities and small towns. It is extraordinarily well developed and the complexities of the characters continue to evolve in each book in a way that has me thoroughly captivated. I can't wait for the next installment - but I'm definitely going to force myself to be patient and wait for the audio version so that I love it from the get-go!

Such a great audiobook. Couldn't stop listening to it. Thank you for my advance reader copy. Can't wait to look up other books from this author.

Texas is a weird place, but but some places in Texas are weirder than others. For a century, the women of the Evans family have kept the dead below ground where they belong. But now with just two Evans, women left, the dead are popping up in places they shouldn’t be, and they are not as dead as they should be either. I really enjoyed this book that played on the strangest of small southern towns and the ability of kick ass women to be able to control the most impossible of situations
