Thank you St. Martin's Press for sending me a copy for an honest review!
This book was written for someone like me: a romantic who knows the world is complicated and happy endings can’t always happen, and indeed are impossible, because every love story ends in heartbreak of some kind. But a romantic who yearns for the impossible to happen, who secretly believes it can, all the same.
Wild Reverence is gorgeous, heartbreaking, poignant, and transcendent. Rebecca Ross beautifully combines the ephemeral and eternal aspects of love and uses her story’s fantastical genre to its best ability—highlighting the limitations of reality and the yearning of humans for a hope of something that transcends our tied hands. We all want to feel as if there is one out there who could see our soul; who will make this life full of heartbreak and difficulty worth the trouble through even the briefest of magical, complete moments with them. Someone who will continue to choose us against all odds and make our vulnerability worth the risk. Matilda and Vincent’s story is all of this—bittersweet in the very best of ways, with both sides of that paradox balanced perfectly so that neither leaves too strong a taste.
Besides all this, Ross expands her world and mythology from her Divine Rivals duology in fitting and fascinating ways. I find myself obsessed with this world of capricious gods and defiant mortals. Wild Reverence gave me just enough to satisfy my curiosity for the world of Enva and Dacre, while also piquing my interest in all the gods besides them. Now I want more of Zenia and Thile, of Orphia and her sister Rowena, and most especially Bade.
In short, I’m obsessed. I found myself making excuses to take breaks from my busy life to steal more moments with this story. It swept me away. Ross’s world is a playground for the heart and mind, and I know I will find myself unexpectedly stopping in daily life to think again of Matilda and Vincent’s story. I will be revisiting them time and again, finding hope and meaning in their impossible, beautiful, defiant love story.

This book started a little bit slow and it took me a bit to keep all of the different god straight, but I loved this book. It was so fun to get to learn more about this same world as Divine Rivals and I love how the epilogue brought it all together. Now I just want to read the other Letters of Enchantment books again!

If you have loved all of the recent Greek Mythology retellings, then you will probably really enjoy this book. Unfortunately, I did not love this like I loved the Divine Rivals Duology, and I hate saying that! I think the book was just too long. Certain parts would really pull me in but then the story would meander off somewhere else and I would just be waiting for it to get back to Matilda and Vincent. My favorite character was Bade and his relationship with Matilda. I wanted more from that and more from the romance between Matilda and Vincent. This wasn't bad but it also wasn't a great read or something I will want to reread.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for access to this arc.

4.5 stars for this one! Thank you to St. Martin's Press | Saturday Books and Rebecca Ross for this arc. This was truly my favorite of the Letters of Enchantment series. It was a beautifully written book of Gods and mortals and the development and growth between all of the characters. The book kept me fully engaged and I didn't want to put the book down. The story of Matilda and Vince was an emotional story of trusting your person and becoming truly vulnerable for them even if it's terrifying.

When I picked up Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, I knew Rebecca Ross' writing was incredibly special. But even knowing her talent, nothing could have prepared me for the beauty that unfolded when I picked up Wild Reverence.
I went into this book completely blind. I didn’t realize it would have Greek mythology and divinity, but from the very first chapter I was completely locked in. I was so in love.
The story follows Matilda, the herald of the gods, the messenger between the Underlings, the Skywards, and the mortal realm. She’s born into this world as a soft, sensitive child, but softness is dangerous among the divines. To be gentle is to be weak and to be a target. Watching her grow from this god-child into a full-strength divine was breathtaking. The writing is exquisite, so magical and filled with whimsy. At times, I swear it felt like I could hear a harp playing in the background while reading the words!! It was hypnotizing.
The god of dreams begins to connect Matilda to Vincent, a mortal boy. They form a friendship through shared dreams as children, but when Matilda is forced to leave the underworld to live with her father among the Skywards, she and Vincent go thirteen years without hearing or seeing each other...Their reunion was written perfectly. The passing of time in this story feels so perfectly done, nothing rushed, it feels completely natural. And when they finally find each other again, it’s so magical. Their relationship is full of yearning, tenderness, even perfectly awkward at times, and eventually, filled with unwavering devotion - literally such a delicious slow burn.
What struck me most, beyond even the romance, was Matilda’s relationship with Bade, the god of war. He was the first to hold her as a baby, the one who trained her, the one she secretly wished she could call her father. Matilda never truly believes he feels the same bond with her. She assumes he only does what he does out of duty. But as readers, we see the truth. We see how freakin soft he is for her, how much he really treasures her. The moment he says, “She is precious to me,” is one of the most powerful in the book. I think I had to put the book down and touch some grass. Rebecca paints this relationship with such care that it feels just as vital to the story as Vincent and Matilda’s romance.
Wild Reverence is an unforgettable read...magical, emotional, and beautifully written. Without question, it’s one of my favorite new releases of the year. Spectacular.

Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for giving me an ARC copy of Wild Reverence! I loved being able to enter the world of Divine Rivals again! It is such a beautiful and fantastical world. I love that we got to see more about the Gods and the time before Divine Rivals.
I wasn't completely sure how I felt about Matilda, our FMC, at first, but as the story progressed, I liked her more and more. I enjoyed her love story with our MMC and also his point of view chapters. I really enjoyed the secondary characters and all the different Gods and Goddess we got to know. I'd love to see more of their stories!
There were a couple of spots that were a little slow, but other parts that quickly made up for it. I really loved the epilogue! It was such a wonderful read with beautiful writing, and I'd love to return to this world again!

Rebecca Ross once again brings readers a beautifully written story that is sure to make hearts ache. Wild Reverence is a stand alone that takes place in the same world as Ross’s Letters of Enchantment duology. It had been awhile since I finished reading that duology, so I probably didn’t pick up on all the Easter eggs from it. That being said, you don’t have to read the Letters of Enchantment duology to enjoy this story! It certainly would add to it, especially with the epilogue, but it is not essential. It was so nice to see more world building for this world. After reading the duology, I couldn’t help but wanting the world Ross created to be expanded. This prequel story, certainly does that. This book is more mature than Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. It leans more older YA or adult. There is nothing terribly explicit but it’s something that should be kept in mind. I loved the dual POV we get in this story. It was heartwarming watching our two MCs fall for one another from their perspectives. This love story, like the infamous one in the Letters of Enchantment duology, will make your heart both burst and ache simultaneously. If you’re a fan of the childhood best friends to lovers trope, you will love this. It is done so well and organically. For me, the book felt a little too long. The pacing was slow to start with. I wasn’t fully invested until around the 25 percent mark. This could be just because it had been awhile since I had been in a he world the story takes place in. Nevertheless, at times the plot felt a little repetitive with the back and forth between realms. Still, this story was beautifully written and I did enjoy the romance in it. This is sure to be another hit for Rebecca Ross!

this is a really tough DNF but I just cannot continue :( this started off super interesting and caught my attention immediately. I think the pacing was a little off for me personally! The beginning was fast paced and we got to see Matilda when she was a child. After she became an adult and developed into more of her magic, the pacing slowed way down. It was really hard to keep my attention and even want to continue to keep reading! this is more of a soft DNF because I can see myself coming back to it when my physical copy comes in!

Wild Reverence was beautifully written. Gods, mortals and a heartbreaking love story — perfection! I couldn’t put this down.

I loved Divine Rivals/Ruthless Vows and so I was excited to receive an arc and dive back in to another Rebecca Ross book. This story takes place in the same world as the Letters of Enchantment duology and it gives you more insight into the gods; specifically Matilda. While I have to admit that I did not get as invested in this book, I did find that the story became more captivating as it progressed, and I found the epilogue to be a nice full circle moment.

1🌶️ i am currently sobbing as i write this review. this was incredible. Rebecca’s writing is breathtaking and has you turning page after page and not knowing how much time has passed. bone deep, chilling, heart wrenching romance with intricate world building and magic systems. i loved every second of Matilda’s story and her love for Vincent. Bade is one of my most favorite side characters and i wish we would have seen him a bit more and i would 1000% read an entire novel about him and Adria. the bits and pieces that were woven into this story connecting to Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows were amazing, the EPILOGUE!!! if you loved that duet you will absolutely love Wild Reverence and i am so excited to hear all of the wonderful things that the world will have to say about this book when it releases! SO SO GOOD
thank you thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Rebecca Ross for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

Thank you so much for the ARC! This book was such a beautiful read and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Mathilda is such an amazing FMC and I adored watching her grow with Vincent throughout the story. My heart definitely broke for each of them at the end. I also love how this ties into the Letter of Enchantment duology without spoiling anything. Overall, it was such a cute story and loved the world building it it. I am grateful that it was the perfect amount of world-building given the type of book it is!

Having loved Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, I was excited to return to this world. While this book is well written and has a lot to offer, the slower pacing made it harder for me to stay engaged. It’s a good story, just not quite the right fit for me personally.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this advanced copy.

xoxo thank you NetGalley for the arc 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I’m in shock, I have no notes but also so many notes. This book did so much justice to the Divine Rivals world, I just want MORE BOOKS. I love Rebecca Ross’s writing style so much. I have told so many people this books is like Song of Achilles/Circe and Divine Rivals had a love child in the best way.
Don’t get me wrong there was absolutely not spice but the closed door romance was so good. I felt the love and affection, I just wanted to snuggle both Matilda and Vince together at the same time.
Matilda is also a bad ass FMC. Her character development was so well done over this book I was actually so surprised. We saw so much growth and character building, it was refreshing.
10/10 would recommend everyone read this immediately as soon as it’s out

Ross never fails to write a BEAUTIFUL story! I am constantly in awe of her writing style and her way with words! This was no different! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! I loved Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows so I had high expectations for this and it far exceeded what I thought!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC of Wild Reverence.
Set in the world of the Letters of Enchantment duology, we are taken back to a time before everything where the story of Matilda and Vincent take place. Two star-crossed lovers who would defy all the odds.
Rebecca Ross knows how to write the most profound and lyrical words. They flow together brilliantly creating an almost movie like quality in your head. I can picture her words, and in this care Matilda and Vincent, like they were in front of me. I knew from reading the LOE duology that her writing was beautiful, but this truly shined brighter.
It’s a heartbreaking beautiful love story about how far you would go for the one you love. While the story was a bit slow to start, as world building takes a major part at the start, the story blossoms into something you just don’t want to put down. Your emotions will be thrown all over the place, yet you will want it to.
Matilda is a beautifully strong FMC who I absolutely adored. Equally, I enjoyed the Dual POV with Matilda and Vincent. To be able to see their feelings from both POVs was lovely to read.
If I could rate this book higher, I would. It was beautiful and captivating. It was a lovely addition to the world and background of the gods and goddesses. Here’s hoping Rebecca will step back into this world again.

Ok so remember how magical and amplified the plot in Divine Rivals felt when the Divines showed up in Iris and Kitt’s world??? Remember all the questions you had about the Divines and the beginning of their conflict between Underling and Skyward? Rebecca Ross answers that call in Wild Reverence. This book presented a very Divine facing plot that still holds the mortal realm in the heart of the story and, of course, the readers’. Buckle up and get ready to peak into the worlds of the Underlings and Skywards 🤯🧘⏳
Bravo Rebecca! I was craving some Divine action and was sated in an unexpected way!

Thank you, Rebecca Ross, Netgalley, St.Martins Press, and Saturday Books for this ARC.
I know Wild Reverence is going to stay with me for a long time.
I’ve always loved Rebecca Ross’ writing, but this one felt even more poetic and emotionally rich. There were so many moments where I had to pause, reread a line, and just feel it — the descriptions, the emotions, the quiet power behind her words.
This story follows Matilda, a god born with both Underling and Skyward blood. Her stars mark her as a herald, carrying messages between worlds, and we follow her as she grows into her identity, her purpose, and her destiny.
If you loved the Rules of Enchantment series, you’ll notice Wild Reverence leans even more into mythology and expansive worldbuilding. Rebecca Ross built a world that swept me up from the very first page and didn’t let go. Each character felt layered, flawed, and full of potential — watching them grow was one of my favorite parts.
And Vincent… the yearning! Their first meeting felt like something out of a legend, one of those moments that feels timeless and unforgettable. I also really enjoyed getting to explore the gods we first heard whispers of in Divine Rivalsand Ruthless Vows — the way this book ties the threads together is just so satisfying.
Bade and Adria completely stole my heart — Bade especially surprised me with his depth and growth.
And Matilda… she’s someone I’d follow into any story. Her strength, her heart, and the way she protects those she loves made her such a powerful protagonist.
Would recommend to anyone who loves good world building, mystical worlds and yearning! 5/5 stars

4.25 stars!!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC!!
This book felt more like being told a story rather than reading a book. Rebecca Ross’s writing is always so incredibly visual and her characters never disappoint.
This book is set in the same universe as Divine Rivals, many many years in the past. It was really interesting to see the mythology/divine system come to life from the pov of a goddess. It brought a new spin on the universe that I really enjoyed!
The pacing was steady. Rebecca does not leave out any details, so it makes for a bit of a slower story, but honestly her writing is so good that I was hooked and binge read most of the book.
That being said, the beginning is despairingly slow because of the amount of world building being introduced. It takes a long time to get to the call to action, and to be completely honest, I had no idea what it was going to be when I started. The synopsis didn’t really give me a good idea of what the book was about, so I didn’t know when to expect the main plot line to begin either.
On top of that, the first few chapters are borderline dull, but once I got to the point where things started picking up, I realized that we did need the backstory that was set up in the beginning.
And like I mentioned before, once the ball got rolling, it was very easy to just sit and read without getting bored. I just had to power through the beginning.
Rebecca’s prose and voice is so beautiful! It really reads like she’s from an earlier era, which is perfect for this book because I LOVE a fantasy with a time-accurate writing style.
Matilda is a strong main character that felt well developed, and I loved her as the protagonist. She definitely had a leading role in the story, and in my opinion, it was more about Matilda than the romance. It was refreshing, but not what I expected! I did adore her and Vincent together, and the romance was believable and well paced.
I also loved Bade, who also had an amazing dynamic with Matilda and it was cute to see them have growth in a father daughter relationship! It was so sweet.
Overall, it was an enjoyable addition to the Divine Rivals universe and a great story!

Name a better (or more devastating) duo than Rebecca Ross and literally and figurative star crossed lovers.
The woman has done it again. I loved the Divine Rivals duology, don’t get me wrong, but this was what was missing from it. This world building that is familiar and yet entirely original. The hallmark Rebecca Ross calculated and cool heroine and sensitive get bold hero done in a completely new and unique light.
Matilda may be my favorite yet. She’s so calculating and cold but full of emotions she can’t express while she navigates every danger around her - both above and below and in the middle. As a god child born with weaker magic than most many overlook her - but those she does let in she remains loyal to for infinity. By being the proverbial wallflower she gets to observe more than most and stash away information like trinkets on a beloved shelf (or in this case belt with special pockets)— information about gods and humans and dreams alike. But with so many facts and tidbits and useful anecdotes for future blackmail and bribery she often lets the warning messages of stories and tales wash right over her. She forges her own path whether history desires to repeat itself or not. Her heart is her own.
