A gorgeous story of second chances, or forgiving yourself and moving forward.
A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a romantic and emotional story set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and the setting for this one certainly makes the story.
I loved the sound of Rowan Bay and the lighthouse - the perfect setting for that get away from it all feeling. Rosie’s decision to get away felt the right one and Rowan Bay seemed to tick the boxes.
Julie Shackman has written some wonderful characters- Reece and the memories of Tilda were so strong and vivid and played such an important part in Rosie’s life.

I have said it before and I say it again, Julie Shackman is one of my favourite authors. She has an incredible way to make you feel all seasons, summer, autumn and of course winter while reading her stories...
And of course this story is one of them.. You can smell the salt of the sea, imagine spending the perfect summer evenings at the Lighthouse, the crispy air of autumn and frosty mornings by the sea. You can feel all the emotions, sadness, despair, angry, happiness,love...
This story is a story of new beginnings, self-discovery, found family and of course finding the true love...
I adored every chapter!

This was my first time reading a novel by Julia Shackman. I liked the overall novel! I will say the romance is very minimal. It felt more like a self discovery type of book. I needed some more moments between the two characters. Rosie is a romance author who doesn’t believe in love anymore due to some circumstances in her life. Mitch has taken a lighthouse position to get away from his past. Of course I love the two dogs Kane and Brontë! They were absolutely adorable to read about.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy! All opinions are my own.

A lovely easy reading story set on the Scottish coast. Great characters and lovely setting with a bit of romance thrown in makes this a perfect light beach read

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for a copy of this lovely book in exchange for an honest review.
To be honest when I saw the front cover and read the title I was thrilled to get my hands on a copy of the book. I would love to escape to Scotland and live in a quite little village or better still in a light house. I hadn't realised this is actually book 9 in the Scottish Escapes series. I have read a couple of other installments though not in order. They can be read as standalones.
Romance author Rosie is devestaed when her beloved husband dies. She then finds out, that he isn't the man she thought he was at all. Needing to escape, she travels to Scotland, where she used to send summers at her late grandmother’s coastal cottage. Not looking for anything but some peace of mind, Rosie is shocked when she meets and starts to have feelings for Mitch, the new lighthouse keeper.
I really enjoyed this book, it took me on an emotional roller coaster. Both characters are written brilliantly and I was routing for them both in the end.

After a tragedy romance author Rosie leaves London to stay at her late grandparents cottage in Scotland. Determined never to write again she meets Mitch, the new lighthouse keeper and it doesn't start well.
Set in a lovely part of the world, although thermals would be required, it also shows the highs and lows of living in a small community. I did feel for Rosie and the way her world imploded, Mitch is more mysterious, grumpy but caring. There is also a stranger peering in through the cottage windows. Throw in a couple of dogs, Bronte and Kane, and you have an ideal setting for a romance with a touch of mystery.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

A story about loss, love and new beginnings.
After finding out her late husband was having an affair romance author Rosie flees to the north of Scotland to grieve and rediscover herself with her trusty companion Brontë. She plans to spend some time in her late grandparents cottage by the sea and reconnect with her old friend and lighthouse keeper Barclay.
Mitch Carlisle has taken the position as the new lighthouse keeper. He is tall , dark and mysterious. Rosie wants absolutely nothing to do with the new replacement.
A great story with all the drama of a wee seaside village in the north of Scotland. Lots of interesting characters and twists and turns along the way. A great read at any time of the year!

A delightful summer read about a romance author who flees to Scotland after discovering her dead husband was having an affair when he died.
There is something special about books set in the Highlands. The descriptions of the setting, the characters you encounter and their stories and adventures will warm your heart.
This was interesting from start to finish. Filled with secrets, mystery and intrigue. The small town setting was perfect with nosy neighbours who mean well and can’t respect boundaries.
I love Rosie’s relationship with Mia and Lola, her budding friendship with Reece and the slow burn between her and the new lighthouse keeper, Mitch.
The plot explores themes of starting afresh, hope, resilience, strength, preservation, moving on, forgiveness, grief, friendship and love.
Fans of atmospheric fiction/romance will enjoy this.

Rosie is a successful romance author, living the dream, until her life implodes. She needs to escape because her home, career and life in London are no longer what she needs. Happy memories of her grandparents' remote cottage in the coastal Scottish Highlands make her decide to run to Scotland. She appreciates the solitude, but surrounded only by memories, she wonders if she has made a mistake. Mitch is the new lighthouse keeper. He wants to make his new role a success and help others, but his first meeting with his neighbour is not encouraging. I was engaged in the story from its beginning and invested in Rosie. The emotional start makes you wonder if she will find happiness again, but when she meets Mitch, you hope for something good to happen between them. The reader is taken on an emotional journey, since both Rosie and Mitch have pain in their pasts. I enjoyed the romance, the storytelling and the story's heartbreaking and heartwarming qualities.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I love Julie Shackman's Scottish escape books and this one is no exception. Set up in the Highlands of Scotland, we meet Rosie and Mitch who give us a heart-warming read which is hard to put down.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Rosie's world has fallen apart, her heart has been broken and she needs to get away from everything. She decides to go to Scotland, to her grandmothers coastal cottage in the highlands, as far away as she can get. Rosie isn’t looking for love until she bumps until the new lighthouse keeper Mitch. Can Mitch help Rosie fix her broken heart?

Rosie decamps to her grandparents' cottage by the sea with her dog Bronte when she discovers that her husband, just now dead had been cheating on her. It's a double whammy made somehow worse by the fact that she's a romance writer. And then she meets Mitch the lighthouse keeper with his own backstory (no spoilers). The plot might seem a tad trope-y in the set up but Shackman has crafted a nicely atmospheric tale with good characters and charm. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's the sort of read you want to relax.

Rosie is a romance writer and all set to celebrate her next book. Within minutes her life is all changed and she must find a new way forward.
This was a lovely story to escape into. It was a fast moving story with great characters. It’s full of emotions certain to tug at your heart

So this is the first book I have read by Julie Shackman and I would definitely read another! For me, the story started off slow and I wasn't sure I would be able to read it. But after the first chapter, I was hooked! This is a perfect summer beach read! It starts off with Rosie, a best selling romance author at her release party for her newest novel. Joe, her husband is running late; Next thing you know, and the part that sucks me in, there is an accident that turns her life upside down. Devastated and wanting to leave her life behind, she decides to hide out in her grandparents cottage in rural Scotland with her best friend Bronte, her dog. As usual, life has other plans and introduces her to Mitch, the new lighthouse keeper, with issues of his own. But over time, MItch and Kane (his dog) may need Rosie as much as she needs him.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

My first book by Julie Shackman & I already look forward to reading another of hers! A Scottish Lighthouse Escape was a sweet, cozy, light-hearted romance that closed with a feel-good happy ending. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Scottish coastal town (and really, ALL her vibrant descriptions throughout the food!), and liked the development of most of the characters. This novel was pretty different from a lot of the rom-coms I’ve been reading lately, but was super enjoyable and just a light hearted (zero spice) read.
The main character (a successful author) looses her husband in an accident, but then is doubly hit when she finds out he’d been cheating on her. Her world is rocked and so she heads to her grandparents cottage to reset and eventually finds new love & is able to move on.
Thanks to NetGalley & the publishers for the ARC!

As this book gets going, there is a huge, jaw-dropping moment that had me wondering if this was going to be a book where my happy-ever-after would need to look different. There is a devastating blow to Rosie Winter’s marriage that would leave me contented to avoid any future connections, too.
Licking her wounds, she heads a little north of Edinburgh to seek solace in her grandparents’ former cottage. Once there, she discovers that her friend, the local lighthouse keeper, is stepping down and moving away. This adds to the maelstrom of feelings she’s already experiencing and leads her to question her decision to move to the idyllic coastal village. Thankfully, she has the devotion of her lovely dog, Bronte, to keep her focused.
When Rosie meets the incredibly gruff replacement lighthouse keeper, Mitch, she quickly realises that he’s best avoided and gives him a wide berth. He may have been extremely handsome, but she’s not in the market for another relationship. In fact, she’s more interested in finding out why her grandmother’s artwork is not welcome in the local, Lumiere gallery. Discovering her grandmother’s diaries, after meeting her former fiancé, Rosie embarks upon a mission to have her grandmother’s artwork accepted and displayed in the gallery.
As always, there’s a real sense of place with this book, and I loved imagining the views across the shore. Her grandparents’ cottage felt homely, and even the lighthouse with the nearby bothy felt like an atmospheric addition to the coastal setting. Although the sequences set in London felt familiar, I didn’t miss them once the story landed in Rowan Bay.
Once again, Julie Shackman has introduced us to an eclectic group of characters who each needed a chance to heal from their heartaches. The story is gentle, and I felt great comfort as it wrapped around me. I do hope you’ll give this book a real chance and enjoy the gentler side of romantic fiction.
I would hate to reveal any spoilers, but I can promise you that this beautiful book delivers on every level and shows that there is always a chance for a broken heart to recover.

A truly stunning, beautiful, up lifting and heart warming story, I must say I am obsessed with this whole series written by Julie Shackman, each one a stand along story, but so beautifully written. They make me want to pack up and go on a touring holiday around Scotland. Beautiful!

This is a very heartwarming read that will have you feeling all of the emotions of the characters! It's a feel-good read about finding yourself and learning to love. Very beautiful.

If you love a heartwarming romance with a happy ending then this is a book for you!
When a heartbroken romance author vows to never write again after her heart is broken, she travels to her grandparents cottage to let her wounds heal and decide what to do with the rest of her life not knowing that fate has its own plans for her…
A gentle romantic read, perfect for a little escapism.
