I was completely blown away by this book. The first bit took awhile to get into but it got so good in the middle and end. I thought it was very well written and had be fully invested in this story. I need another book though because whaaaaat?! That ended left me stunned. I highly recommend this one!

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Vi Keeland delivers the perfect blend of romance and suspense in Someone Knows. The story follows Elizabeth, a college professor in New York, whose world is turned upside down when a mysterious student begins submitting assignments that mirror her hidden past—revealed chapter by chapter.

As the narrative shifts seamlessly between past and present, the layers of Elizabeth’s long-buried secret begin to unravel, threatening to upend the life she’s carefully built. Keeland keeps readers hooked with a gripping plot, emotional depth, and a strong, likable protagonist you can’t help but root for—especially when it comes to her slow-burn romance with Noah.

Intriguing, emotional, and full of twists, Someone Knows is a must-read for fans of romantic thrillers.

Oh my goodness! This was such a good book! And it had a bit of a twist ending which I really, really love. Elizabeth was a professor at a small college in New York. She taught English and she taught an online creative writing course. In her creative writing class, a student by the name of Hannah started sending her chapters of her own life from when she was in high school 25 years prior. This really disturbed. Elizabeth, because there where only two people who knew about her past: her teacher, Mr. Sawyer, and her friend ivy. She knew Mr. Sawyer was dead because she had allegedly killed him. She was absolutely baffled. Her past included an affair with Mr. Sawyer, who was a married man. So who could have possibly known? She decided to go back to the small town in Louisiana where she grew up to try to find a clue.

When she arrived, she learned that her mother is dying of cancer. Also, her mother had found religion in a Catholic church called St. Agnes, and she urges Elizabeth to go and repent of her sins. But Elizabeth was having none of that.

One night she decided to go out for a drink at the local bar where she met a man named Noah. They hit it off and she goes home with him. It turns out Noah is Mr. Sawyer's son. At first, Elizabeth is taken aback. But eventually, she's able to get past it. She goes back home to New York only to get a call from the hospital in Louisiana informing her that her mother is there and dying. She didn't leave right away. A man that she used to know in school that she had a crush on, Lucas, works in the hospital and he called her to tell her that her mother had died. She left immediately.

Her mother had already made arrangements for her demise so Elizabeth goes to the church to meet the priest. Yet she refused to go to confession. Elizabeth had been dating a man named Sam who wanted more from her than what she was willing to give. She didn't want a relationship. She just wanted someone to have sex with. When he told her what he wanted she decided the relationship couldn't go on anymore. But she didn't end it right then. The day of the funeral she was there with Noah and Sam showed up. It was awkward for Elizabeth and Sam but they were able to get through it. Immediately following the service she fled and Sam followed her. He asked her if she was sleeping with Noah and she said yes because their relationship had not been exclusive. But it was at that point that she told him their relationship was over. She then gave him a ride to the airport.

Initially, Elizabeth sort of suspected Noah of writing the chapters to her, but she rejected that idea almost immediately. She was finally able to locate ivy. She told her all about the the six chapters she had received and showed them to her so she could read them. She asked her if she had written them. Ivy was absolutely emphatic about the fact that she had not written them but found them as odd as Elizabeth found them. She swore to her that she hadn't told anyone and she revealed to her that she too, had had an affair with Mr. Sawyer. That sealed it for Elizabeth. She knew ivy hadn't written them. This brought her back to Noah and thinking he was involved. She pretty much convinced herself that he was the culprit.

Shortly after her encounter with ivy, she went looking for Noah and found him. She didn't want to talk to him, she wanted to go to his house when he wasn't there. So she did just that. The back door was open so she walked in. She assumed Mr. Sawyer kept a journal so she tore through Noah's house in search for it. She didn't find it, but what she did find was a box in Noah's bedroom full of Polaroids of many girls, herself included. The clinch pin. She assumed Noah knew all about her and that he had indeed located his father's journal. He came home and found her sitting in the floor in the middle of all the Polaroids. She lit into him demanding that he give her his father's journal. Noah didn't know what she was talking about and told her there was no journal.. She became hysterical and he grabbed her and held her, which she hated. But he wouldn't let her go until she calmed down. When she was finally calm, he told her that she could look anywhere she wanted and that he would wait for her in the kitchen, which he did. When she finally emerged he asked her to explain and she told him everything including the fact that she allegedly killed his father by hitting him over the head with an object. He told her that she didn't kill him, that he had been asphyxiated and suffocated. He gave her his father's death certificate to prove it. He also told her that he had no idea she was in the photographs. He had gone through them but didn't dwell on them. Finally, she was convinced that he knew nothing about her. She asked him he if she could have the photographs so that she could burn them and he gave them to her.

When Elizabeth went back to her mother's house she was getting the last of her mother's things out and she found under the mattress her journal and she knew her mother had read it. In the journal she wrote about Lucas and how she had a crush on him. She also wrote about everything she did with Mr. Sawyer. She wrote about the fact that Mr. Sawyer had hit her and abused her. She also wrote about the fact that she had gotten pregnant. When she told Mr. Sawyer she was pregnant. He pushed her down a flight of 14 steps so that she would miscarry. Elizabeth wondered if her mother had written the chapters, but she ruled that out immediately because She knew her mother couldn't possibly have done it. She also knew that Noah was writing a book, but again, dismiss that idea, especially when she had confessed everything to him it was clear to her that he didn't have a clue.

The last day that she was at her mother's house she was visited by her mom's attorney. He went through the will with her letting her know that she had willed her house and her car to St. Agnes, but that she could use either one for as long as she needed to clear out the house. He also gave her a letter that her mother had written to her. First, she threw it out, but then after she realized her mother had her journal she went through the garbage and pulled the letter out. Her mother had been a terrible mom to her, but in the letter she told Elizabeth that she loved her., and she confessed that she had killed Mr. Sawyer because of what he had done to Elizabeth. So it was finished. She tidied up the house and went back to New York.

Elizabeth thought but she was past the worst of it but when she got home she found she still couldn't sleep or eat. The last chapter that Hannah had submitted to her spoke of her pregnancy and she knew she hadn't told anyone but Mr. Sawyer. But then of course her mom knew. Nevertheless, in in light of the fact that she was having difficulty sleeping and eating and her doctor wouldn't write her another prescription for sleeping pills, she decided to go back to her old therapist. She made tremendous progress with her, In spite of the fact that she still didn't know who had written the seven chapters.

This author did a stellar job telling this story. Her characters were very real and the plot was easy to follow. She was able to draw me into the book and take me right along, step by step, with Elizabeth's journey. In the end, Noah was able to get his book published. I gave this book five stars.

Vi Keeland is back with another twisty blend of romance and suspense, and after loving The Unraveling, I was really curious to see how she’d follow it up. Someone Knows kicks off with a killer premise: Elizabeth, a college professor, is blindsided when one of her students submits a story that sounds way too familiar—like, pulled-from-her-own-life familiar. Because she’s not just connected to the story… she’s the one who lived it. And she’s the one who killed him.

The setup is gripping, and Keeland keeps the pace snappy with short chapters and a steady drip of tension. I flew through it. That said, a few things didn’t totally work for me. There are a bunch of side characters thrown in, clearly meant to be red herrings, but most of them felt flat or forgettable. And the tone? All over the place. The flashbacks are dark and disturbing (definitely check the content warnings), while the present-day storyline leans spicy and romantic. That contrast gave me some serious whiplash.

Still, the concept is fresh, and even if I saw one of the big reveals coming, there were a couple late-in-the-game twists that genuinely caught me off guard. Like The Unraveling, there’s a fun final chapter moment that leaves you thinking.

If you’re into thrillers with buried secrets, small-town vibes, and don’t mind a genre-bending ride, this one’s worth tossing in your beach bag. Someone Knows hits shelves June 17.

Would you read a thriller where the main character is hiding a murder from their past?

This book was completely binge-able and just what I needed to get out of my reading slump. I love that it hooked me from the start and kept me engaged enough to not want to put it down. I love messy characters and I think the author did a great job of including some heavy topics (SA, alcoholism, grief) in a way that felt real. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil it, but this one will have you guessing up until the end. Please note that if you’re an experienced thriller reader - this may be somewhat underwhelming. To me, it was exactly what I needed at this time and I will continue to pick up Vi Keeland’s releases.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC of Someone Knows. Be sure to pick up your copy on its release day, June 17, 2025!

This is fast paced. A decent thriller that had some unbelievability that kept me from being able to give it more stars.

I love Vi Keeland's romances, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I LOVED a psychologic thriller by her, as I typically am not a fan of genre. This fantastic and kept me guessing right until the very end.

This is the first psychological thriller I have read by Vi Keeland and I loved it. Elizabeth has secrets from a traumatic event years ago and someone is taunting her with the knowledge. As Elizabeth methodically tries to investigate, her past and present collide, leaving her suspicious of everyone. The story is full of possible suspects and I was completely thrown by the twist at the end. A really fast-paced, engrossing read that left me shocked but not surprised as the author tied it together. Some dark & graphic content so you might want to check the content warnings. Thanks to Atria Books & NetGalley for the review copy.

This was SO good! Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I needed to know what was happening next so I ate this up!

The best part about a Vi Keeland mystery is the never ending twists and turns. Just when you think you know, you don’t. Just when the book ends with resolution, it doesn’t. A wild ride!

Definitely a recommendation for thriller fans!

I never saw the ending coming! Parts were a little slow paced but the ending got me! Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read Someone Knows by Vi Keeland!

This was my first Vi Keeland book, and it made me want to dive into her others!
While this wasn’t a favorite, I did enjoy it!
The first 40% seemed slow and took awhile for me to get into the story. I did enjoy the last half of the book but things got a bit repetitive. There was one twist I didn’t see coming, and although I predicted the ending, the way Vi wrote the reveal made it memorable! I love a shock factor ending to a story!

2.5⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and Vi Keeland for an ARC of this book!

For me, this book started pretty slow, despite the very interesting premise. Our FMC, Elizabeth committed a murder 15 years ago, and is paranoid of everyone ever since. I felt like I was skimming to just get to the end and find out who Hannah Greer was and how she was able to send vivid details of the events that took a while ago.

The timeline alternates, beginning and mid-chapter so it got confusing pretty at times. It wasn’t a seamless transition between the timelines, so it was difficult to know when Jocelyn’s started, and when it’s Elizabeth’s POV. I did enjoy the story and the ending did have me shook as fuck. I did not expect it but I think it also introduced a lot more questions as well 👀

I know Vi Keeland as a romance author so was surprised to see she had written a thriller. It read very smoothly and the story was interesting and compelling. It is a book that is hard to put down. I kept guessing until the last page who Hannah was in the end. I am already a fan and will be reading more books by this author!

Ok, look, I love Vi’s romance books, but damn can she write mystery/thriller too!

A brilliantly written whodunnit, this story follows Elizabeth Davis as she tries to figure out who is pretending to be her creative writing student and haunting her about her past. Whoever this person is knows things only Elizabeth should know, playing with her mind and forcing her to relive experiences she would much rather leave in the past. Forced to return to her hometown, Elizabeth meets a very sexy Noah who becomes a lovely distraction. But does he know who she is?

There’s something lurking in every corner, and reading this story had me looking over my own shoulder! Vi surprises the reader with multiple twists and turns. Silly me, my mind was blown with the first twist reveal, so I was definitely not prepared when that final twist was unveiled…

I desperately need a follow up book!

Elizabeth is a creative writing professor. She receives a submission from a student that contains a secret only she and her two best friends know. Elizabeth is determined to figure out who is sending her the chapters that echo her past. Who knows her secret?
This book was not for me. While I liked the idea of the plot, reading the chapters that were sent to Elizabeth were too much for me.

In Someone Knows, Vi Keeland steps away from her usual romance-driven narratives to deliver a slow-burning mystery that is both atmospheric and emotionally grounded. This story is less about high-speed chases or shocking reveals and more about the quiet unraveling of a life shadowed by secrets.

The novel follows a character haunted by the past—by a truth that refuses to stay buried and memories that echo louder with each passing day. The tension builds gradually, like a storm you feel before you see. Keeland’s writing here is measured, thoughtful, and steeped in emotional nuance.

🖤 What Stands Out:
• The narrative is beautifully introspective, offering more than just suspense. It’s about the emotional cost of silence, guilt, and unresolved trauma.
• The characters are well-developed and flawed in a way that feels deeply human.

Someone Knows completely pulled the ground out from under me—and I mean that in the best possible way. I picked it up expecting a gripping thriller, but what I got was a full-body experience that left me breathless, obsessed, and emotionally destroyed by that ending. I don’t even know what to do with myself right now.

This book is dark, emotional, and full of haunting suspense. The tension builds from the very first chapter, when Elizabeth reads a student’s story that mirrors a deadly secret from her past. From that moment on, I was hooked.

The twists? Brilliant.
The writing? Razor sharp.
The pacing? Unputdownable.
And the ending? Don’t even get me started— it will mess you up...

If you thought Vi Keeland was just about romance, think again. This book proves she can do chilling, twisted, and psychological just as well. Someone Knows isn’t just a thriller—it’s a storm of emotion, regret, suspense, and reckoning.

READ. THIS. BOOK.

And then message me when you finish, because we need to talk about that ending together...

This is the second thriller I’ve read from this author and it was so good! Her thrillers are a mix of romance and mystery/thriller. It’s a good combination of both! Although this isn’t your typical love story. Every chapter ends with you wanting to read more and the twists and turns just kept going! The ending had my jaw on the floor and I loved it! If you enjoyed The Teacher by Freida McFadden you’d enjoy this one! This does have spice and some triggering topics so keep that in mind. I will definitely read more thrillers from this author!

Mind blown 🤯 The very end...my goodness...I never saw it coming. Someone Knows is full of great plot twists! 👏 Vi Keeland's has done it again, she's written another mind-bending book that had me guessing, doubting, double checking, and wondering who "it" was right up until the very last page.

Elizabeth Davis lives an unassuming life. As a professor of English her life is fairly mundane and structured. The one class she looks forward to breaking up her daily life is a seminar she teaches in creative writing. However, she wasn't prepared for her past to appear in her present and reveal a secret she's kept buried for twenty years.

As Elizabeth feels her mind begin to unravel, she doesn't know who to believe in her quest to understand who is digging up the past. The student who keeps sending her chapters of a long, dead secret is just as much of a mystery of the actual past she'd hoped was buried alongside the man who died twenty years ago. Unfortunately, her past is haunting her and the list of suspects is growing.

This book kept me guessing right along with Elizabeth and the ending was a jaw dropping surprise 😮 My best advice...don’t spoil it and read ahead. Trust me, you'll love all the twisty surprises!

Thank you to Netgalley and Atria Books for the advance review copy and all opinions are my own.

I've enjoyed several of Vi's romance novels and for a thriller, SOMEONE KNOWS was pretty good.

However, there were several issues that are keeping me from giving a four-star review.

* I felt there were a few questions that were unanswered about the plot and characters. Perhaps it's my slow-moving brain, but I'm still left with things that weren't resolved.
* The ending was ... not what I wanted for the main character.
* I didn't like the digs at the Catholic Church.

Otherwise, the plot kept me very interested to see it to the end.

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for an e-copy of SOMEONE KNOWS to review.

I rate SOMEONE KNOWS three out of five stars.
