"Sharp, seductive, and highly entertaining… “Someone Knows” is a secret worth uncovering!"
Elizabeth is a college English Professor, whose past resurfaces unexpectedly. When she receives a student's manuscript titled “The Reckoning”, detailing a high school affair between a teacher and a student, Elizabeth is struck with dread. The story mirrors a dark chapter from her own life—her best friend Jocelyn's affair with their teacher, which ended in the teacher's death. And Elizabeth was the one… who killed him!
To uncover the writer's identity, Elizabeth returns to her Louisiana hometown, where she discovers that no matter how much time has passed, she can't escape her past.
"The past never stays buried—especially when secrets are dying to be told."
“Someone Knows” is my first venture into Vi Keeland´s work, and it caught me entirely off guard – in the best way possible. While Keeland is widely known for her steamy contemporary romances, this book showcases her impressive narrative control and range in a completely different arena. Her writing is tightly paced for the psychological thriller format, and it fuels the reader´s suspicion in satifying, unpredictable ways .
Though the core of the novel is a thriller, Keeland doesn´t abandon her romantic roots entirely. There are a few steamy scenes that add tension and intimacy, but they never overpower the suspense or feel out of place.

I’ve read a lot of the author’s work, & I was excited when she recently jumped into a new genre. I’m not going to say much about the plot, because I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone. This is everything a good psychological thriller should be. It kept me guessing until the end. I had trouble putting it down. It left me thinking about it after I finished.
I didn’t always like Elizabeth, but I’m guessing that’s what the author intended. She’s a complicated character. I was definitely rooting for her to find answers. Plenty of interesting characters. Lots of twists & revelations. The end was not exactly what I expected, but it fits. I wish I had a couple more chapters to read.
Thanks to the author & publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy via NetGalley.

✨What it is about:
College professor Elizabeth is stunned when a student submits a story that mirrors a dark secret from her past: a teacher-student affair that ended in murder. As new chapters are submitted, threatening to expose her secret, Elizabeth returns to her Louisiana hometown to uncover who’s behind the story, and realizes the past isn’t as buried as she thought.✨
💭My thoughts:
This was fast paced which I always love, and binge-worthy. Once you start, you can’t stop! It has a little romance which I didn’t expect, and though a little unsettling, it kept things interesting. I found some parts a little predictable, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. Super fun and fast thriller I definitively recommend you pick up and out in your beach bag!

Wow just completely and utterly WOW! What a complete mind tangling, psychological thriller!! I was so ensnared with this book and I couldn’t put it down. Short but successful in its entirety of gripping you from the beginning and not letting you go!! And that twist ending, masterfully done!! I seriously enjoyed this book! It does touch on a slightly darker topic of teacher - student abuse, S/A, and alcoholism so check your triggers please. But overall it was a wonderfully written thriller and I look forward to more of this genre from the author!!

I’m going to keep this review short, because this book is one to go in blind. The second I started reading it I was sucked into the mystery and the thrill of it. I had to know what was going to happen and before I knew it I was finished with the book.
There were a few times where my jaw literally dropped to the floor. I should have seen things coming, but totally didn’t. I loved all the twists and turns. Definitely check this one out if you enjoy thrillers.

I thought Someone Knows by Vi Keeland was an addictive read. At under 300 pages this thriller was a binge-able quick read. I enjoyed the multiple plot twists, and I can’t say know to a book about books, especially dark academia. I thought the finally plot twist was going to be Elizabeth writing the chapters to herself due to a mental breakdown.

I received this as an arc from NetGalley and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I absolutely loved this story. It had my head spinning several times and though I wasn’t completely shocked by the ending it still managed to have me guessing and second guessing almost everything about the story. This author has a way with words that appeals to me regardless of the genre she writes and this was another hit for me.

Thank you to Atria Books via Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
College professor, Elizabeth is looking forward to the start of her creative writing seminar until she reads the first chapter of one of her students papers called The Reckoning, in which a high school student has an affair with her teacher, and it sounds eerily familiar to a story she already knows. The girl in the story is her best friend and she knows how the story ends with their teacher dead because she killed him. Elizabeth makes a trip home to discover her past is not easily escaped no matter how many years go by.
This was a great book. It had some spicy moments in it and other moments that were not as engaging and just left it feeling lack luster. The twist was great makes you wonder and have more questions. I was confused on some parts, it just didn’t make any sense, unless I misunderstood, but without giving things away I will just keep it to myself. Overall definitely worth the read it was a great book, but check the trigger warnings.

4.5 Stars
From the very first page, Vi Keeland's Someone Knows utterly captivated me. I picked it up yesterday afternoon and found myself unable to set it aside, pausing only for essential breaks before devouring the rest of it today. That's how gripping and immersive this book truly is.
We delve into the life of Elizabeth, an English professor whose carefully constructed present is suddenly threatened by a dark secret from her past resurfacing. This unsettling return sends her spiraling, pushing her to the brink as she desperately tries to uncover who is tormenting her after so many years of quiet.
Vi Keeland has rapidly become a favorite in the thriller genre for good reason (please keep writing more thrillers!!!). Her ability to craft deeply engaging main characters is remarkable, and her narrative and writing are consistently flawless. Just when you think you've pieced together the puzzle, she delivers a plot twist that's genuinely unexpected, leaving you reeling in the best possible way. This constant shift in perception is what makes her thrillers so incredibly addictive.
I wholeheartedly recommend adding Someone Knows to your reading list. And if, as I predict, you find yourself thoroughly engrossed, be sure to also pick up The Unraveling for another compelling read.

This story was captivating from the very beginning. An awesome page turner that kept me guessing, and I absolutely loved the ending!

Elizabeth Davis, a creative writing professor has been running from her past for 20 years. When she starts receiving emails with chapters to a book that detail the very events she’s trying to escape. She just can’t figure out who is sending the emails so few people know what truly happened. She heads back to her home town in Louisiana to try to figure out who it is. When she arrives, she finds out that her mother is very ill. Her mental health begins to decline as she stops eating and sleeping. Still trying to figure out who knows this much and how. She’s going to learn a lot about herself and the horrible stuff she’s blocking out. But will she ever figure out who knows and what they want?
This was a fast paced thriller that was really hard to stop especially after you begin to work out some of the puzzle pieces. This one comes out tomorrow, June 16, 2025 if you’d like a good thriller, get your hands on it.

Elizabeth, a college professor teaching a creative writing seminar, gets a nasty shock as she’s grading her students’ first assignment, the first chapter of a fiction book. Because the compelling chapter about a high school student who kills her English teacher isn’t fiction at all – something Elizabeth knows all too well, because she was the one who killed him. Someone knows what Elizabeth did all those years ago, and she returns to her small hometown in Louisiana to get to the bottom of what’s going on.
If a psychological thriller with “My Dark Vanessa” vibes and a spicy romance subplot sounds up your alley, then look no further! This fast-paced read is steamy, suspenseful, and totally bingeable. The writing is sharp and kept me guessing the entire time. If you loved Vi’s first thriller “The Unraveling” as much as I did, you know she’s got a knack for giving us an unhinged FMC! I was questioning everything and everyone right along with Elizabeth but also doubting her perspective because she’s such an unreliable narrator. Full of twists, turns, and trauma right up until the last mind-blowing sentence!
The audiobook narration is top notch! Leslie Howard does an outstanding job of bringing Elizabeth to life, especially as the tension mounts and her paranoia spirals. And Aiden Snow’s smoky, sexy, slightly southern drawl in the last chapter is just perfect!
Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books, Emily Bestler Books, and Simon Audio for providing me an advance copy of this book.
**This book goes to some DARK places, so check those trigger warnings if you need to.

What a wild ride this was! This was my first read by Vi Keeland and it did not disappoint. I was at the edge of my seat and stayed there for the duration while awaiting the next clever twist and/or shock moment. The writing was uniquely satisfying and provided alternating timelines - one from the present and the other from the past, which was written in book form as a submission from a student. The ending was pretty jaw dropping and I loved the open ended element.
The only reason I knocked a 1/2 star was because there were a couple of things that I still had questions on after finishing and felt they could have been wrapped up a bit more.
Overall, I highly recommend for a faced-paced, unputdownable page turner!

Elizabeth is a professor and receives a story that flips her world upside down, especially since it arrives on the anniversary of an event she and her friends vowed to never speak of. After the passing of her teacher in high school, she left her hometown, but now someone knows the truth of what happened. They aren’t keeping it a secret, but who is the person behind the story? Elizabeth realizes it’s time for her to return home to try to figure it out. While she is home, she finds out her mom is sick and needs someone, which leads her to meet Noah. As it turns out, he also has a connection to that night. While the book was predictable, the ending tried to change that, but it left more questions than answers: it seemed like a 2nd book was being set up. It had a conclusion until the last chapter and tried to make the story more interesting, but it left me upset. There were many characters mentioned and forgotten, like the police chief, Lucas, and Ivy, and they each could have provided more to the story’s development. It was not fully formed. This is a dark and descriptive story; please be mindful before starting, as I don’t think there are trigger warning- yet there should be.

I breathlessly flew through this one. It's got great thriller/mystery vibes that had me hooked from beginning to end - and I didn't figure it out until right before the big twist/reveal. It's positively creepy that someone is recounting our main characters past to her via a story submission from an anonymous student, when she didn't tell anyone. So who knows and why is it all coming back twenty years later?

Let me tell you once I started reading this book I just couldn’t stop.
I was pulled in and consumed with who was behind the mysterious sending of The Reckoning.
Who’s try to drive Professor Elizabeth Davis off the rails?
I was pulled down the rabbit hole right along with Elizabeth.
There were so many suspects to choose from.
So many people who could be behind the nerve wracking chapters being delivered to Elizabeth.
But whoever is responsible for it does what Elizabeth did twenty years ago.
The plot and storyline is complex and gripping.
The characters are intriguing and multilayered.
The is so much action, drama and moving pieces taking place.
So many twists and turns. Some I had a feeling about. And others I just didn’t see coming.
The writing is just incredible! Ms. Keeland mastered it.
Now for that ending.
OMG!
My mind is reeling and a chaotic mess.
What’s going to happen now? It is over or just beginning? Will things settle or is destruction a must.

Wow, so good! I have read this author's romance novels and loved them. This novel did not disappoint. I loved this novel it was filled with suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat reading and trying to guess what was coming next. Everytime I thought I had it figured out, bam another twist and turn I didn't see coming. From the very first chapter this novel grabbed ahold of my attention and held on tight the entire novel. Once I started reading I could not put this novel down. Even if it meant staying up most of the night to figure out what was happening next. So so good! I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next.

I requested this book before I even knew what it was about. As a huge fan of her last book the unraveling, I knew this one would be spectacular. And did it deliver!
The book begins with Elizabeth, an English professor at a college teaching a creative writing class. She begins to receive chapters from one of her students named Hannah that eerily details a perf of her life that she has kept a complete secret for over 20 years. Elizabeth starts to unravel and begins to search for how this person can know her secret.
There are several things that truly made this book work. First, the pacing. Vinhas a way of setting the pacing perfectly, leaving you wanting more. It’s hard to put down this book. Two, I love how she weaves in the psychological part. It’s done so well and really enhances the story. Three, it hooks you from the beginning.
I love it all. The characters, the suspense, the twists. You don’t want to miss this one. It comes out tomorrow! Thank you to atria.
And if you haven’t read her other book, The Unraveling, I highly suggest you pick it up as well!

Wow, I forgot how twisted and surprising Vi's thrillers could be. I tend to be wrong when I make predictions in books like this, but I was actually right! I formed a theory towards the beginning of the book, but I wasn't always sure about it as the book went on, and I learned more information. I wavered from the theory a few times, but it turned out that I was actually correct. I'm proud of myself for that. There were plenty of other things that I didn't see coming at all and really surprised me. I wasn't sure what to think of Elizabeth for a while. She's a woman who has a lot of trauma from her past, and that has stuck with her. It's hard for her to trust people, let people in, and form serious relationships. It makes it harder to connect with her since she's almost disconnected, if that makes sense. As the book goes on and you learn more about her and her past, things start to make more sense, and you feel more and more for her. With these kinds of books, it's hard to trust anyone. So I tried not to get too invested in any of the other characters since I didn't know if I should like them or not. Overall, it was a very interesting, surprising, and emotional book, and I enjoyed it. *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*

A nicely twisty one. Elizabeth did a bad thing many years ago but she's now an English professor in NYC and seems to have dodged both responsibility and consequences. Not so because someone knows she's a murderer and they're taunting her by sending her pieces of a. novel that tells the truth about that night. So what to do but go home to Louisiana to look for answers. You'll begin to wonder how reliable she is as well as about her objectives. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Keeland is a good storyteller who crafted a clever one.
