Engrossing read of history…

This book provided chapter after chapter of insightful glimpses into past civilizations governing laws and social mores. Easy to read, it read like reality tv of the ancient era – surprising, shocking and full of drama of the day. The main focus of this book of course was the idea that we are all created in God’s image – and that society, laws, etcetera revolved around this basic premise. This approach is rooted in religious theology and offered a wealth of information to persuade the reader on the soundness of that premise.

I found the author’s conclusion that our need for individuality is breaking apart families and communities very intriguing. While I don’t agree that liberalism is the direct cause of social decay, I found his arguments thought-provoking if, ultimately, unpersuasive. Saying that, the historical information in this book was vast, well-laid out and highly entertaining. As a history book, top marks.
