This was such an interesting read. I didn’t really know what to make of it for the first third or so. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be more romance or thriller, which was part of the fun. I also didn’t know what to expect with the MC.

There’s a lighthearted feel to a story that follows a lot of dark topics. So while it didn’t feel like a particularly hard book to read, it touches on very sensitive subjects. It brings to the forefront the dangers lurking from diet culture and wellness retreats, while asking difficult questions.

It was fun to unravel the story. The prologue was very intriguing. It was also interesting trying to fit it into the overall story. While I do recommend this book, I would go in blind unless you need to look up trigger warnings.

I was really excited and had such high hopes for this one, but sadly, it just wasn’t for me.

It felt like forever until the story started to really take off and then once it did, it still dragged. I had to force myself to finish this one! The FMC’s criteria for choosing her target/victims felt…silly to me? Idk, I was expecting her to go after really bad people. Not…toxic people with pea-sized brains…
Like, I understand the reasoning behind why she does it, but still, it felt silly to me. And the HOW she does it? Also super silly! It’s a 4 week health focused retreat in the middle of nowhere and someone conveniently dies year after year and it has been happening for the past 5 years YET the hotel is still operating, somehow this place is not being threatened to shut down nor has there been one single investigation taking place. Mind you, really famous people attend this retreat. And she’s the only returning staff member. Year… after year…. For the past 5 years… so yeah. This was not only predictable but I couldn’t feel any chemistry between the FMC and MMC.

It had potential but it truly lacked sense of realism and emotional depth to connect not only with the characters but the storyline as well. I guess the execution wasn’t for me.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for my ARC 💖

Sometimes you just gotta pick up a book from a new to you author and dive in.
The cover vibes of A Killer Getaway had me thinking it was a perfect summer read. And I was right. Well, if you like "vacation romance" mixed with "cozy thriller" and Dexter tendencies, that is.
You see, Lily has been working at this exclusive resort (Riovan) for the past 5 summers. She has lost someone and everything from that loss stems from this resort and how they handle certain situations. To help her ease some of her pain and grief, Lily likes to take things into her own hands and "fix" the situation so some of those toxic people can't hurt others any more. But someone is putting the pieces together and Lily just may make the list of suspects.

A Killer Getaway was well paced and an easy read. I did skim some parts, but overall I was enjoying the story and liked the idea of Lily offing people as a way to save others. A little feminine rage if you will. Gotta love an FMC that does some vigilante stuff for redemption. Since we already knew who the killer was, this was more about getting to know Lily as a person and why she was doing the things she was doing. Then we had the added surprise element of an attraction to one of the guests of the resort, Daniel Black. At first, that messed up her plans, but as she uncovers more of who Daniel is, she adds more layers to her method of madness. And Daniel added to the complex situation by having some unexpected chemistry with Lily.

While this was not a book that was on my radar, I had fun with it. It was like a dark romcom with a female Dexter with a side of romance. I liked that the setting was a character in itself and was a major plot point to Lily's actions. Add in the supporting characters and other employees of the resort and it added to the overall arc of the story. But the unexpected attraction between Lily and Daniel gave us that vulnerability and realness to Lily that we might've otherwise been missing during her k*lling times. I do wish we got more of her backstory and the "why" toward the beginning, but the taste we got was just enough to keep me on the hook. Because Sharpe circles back to put the pieces together toward the end.

Overall, this was an entertaining, quick read and kept me intrigued throughout. I had an inkling of an idea of how everything was going to come together, but was ultimately surprised at how everything wrapped up. This won't be a story that blows you away, but with the cast of characters and the way everything progressed from beginning to end, you will be pulled in and 100% entertained. 3.5-3.75 stars.

A Killer Getaway is a captivating read that smoothly blends romance and mystery to the delight of its readers. Lily Lennox, owner of a successful catering business, has a secret. For the past four summers, she leaves everything behind to head to the luxurious Riovan Wellness Resort in the Caribbean. But Lily doesn’t spend her summers as a guest of the posh resort. She’s there for other reasons. Each summer she steps away from her successful career to work as a lifeguard at the Riovan. And for each of these summers, mysterious deaths just happen to occur during her stay.

Lily arrives this summer, as all the summers before, with a purpose. All is going according to her well-laid plan until we meet the latest hotel guest, Daniel Black. This ruggedly handsome reporter claims he’s here to write an article for a fitness magazine, but things aren’t adding up with his story. Daniel’s asking too many questions about the summer murders.

I enjoyed this beachy mystery. The chemistry between Lily and Daniel adds a layer of romance to the fast-paced thriller, making it an engaging read from start to finish. Sharpe’s writing keeps readers on the edge of their seats, with close calls that are both unexpected and satisfying. A Killer Getaway is the perfect summer read, offering a mix of island vibes, intrigue and a just the right amount of romance.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy of this novel.

The cover is amazing and the synopsis gripped me and I was excited to read it. I wanted to like this book, but none of the characters hooked me. The main character made decisions that I could not believe and tripped herself up over and over. I was hoping for a page turning popcorn thriller that was a great option to read on the beach or by the pool but I kept getting pulled out of the story.

There were a few things that shocked me toward the end and a couple things I didn't see coming and I could see how others would enjoy this book but I am not a fan of unlikable characters so it fell short for me.

I loved the premise of this book. It was fun. More mystery than thriller but definitely a good time. I loved the pace and the characters. Fast read. Perfect for vacation. Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.

was saving this for summer proper, and I'm so glad I did! This was such a fun summer-appropriate read with mystery, thrills, romance, and beachy vibes. The book took a little while to set everything up (in particular, it took a bit too long to reveal Lily has killed people at the Riovan resort, considering we already know this from the synopsis), but once we do, it's an engaging and fast read.

Lily was a fun morally gray character. I liked that though her logic was a bit twisted, she felt like a real character instead of a caricature that felt detached from reality. Her backstory was darker and heavier than I thought it'd be, but it's balanced out by her humorous inner monologues.

The book mixes genres well. We get some mystery from the gradual unraveling of Lily's past and what Daniel is up to at the resort, some thrills with Lily and Daniel's cat-and-mouse game, and romance with Lily and Daniel's great chemistry. It definitely requires some suspension of disbelief. It's hard to believe that someone dying at the same resort four summers in a row would not raise more suspicion, and also that Daniel would be comfortable with Lily's many red flags. However, these things didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book and it was easy to not take the book so seriously and just be entertained. At the same time, the book was not overly campy either. The twist at the end was fun and had a satisfying if not kooky conclusion.

Told from the point of view of a serial killer, the story tries to offer a deep dive into her mind—but instead, I found her confusing and frustrating. Her motivations were vague and dragged out, with repeated explanations about "justice" that felt hollow. The narrative kept circling the same thoughts without much progress, which made parts of the book feel tedious. By the time the big twist came, it wasn’t much of a surprise—it was predictable and didn’t add much weight to the plot.

The romantic subplot also didn’t sit right. The main character starts falling for a man while still longing for her girlfriend, and he starts falling for her even though he knows she’s a killer. That relationship felt unrealistic and uncomfortable, and I struggled with the idea that we were meant to root for a serial killer just because the author tried to justify it.

There were a few interesting moments that pulled me in, but they were too few and far between.

This was such a quick read for me! It wasn’t so much a thriller but a cozy mystery to me. I can’t wait to see what else this author writes.

📚MY REVIEW:

A Killer Getaway is one of those incredibly captivating and salacious thrillers that pulls you in quickly with its story... and it's just SO GOOD. I couldn't believe how fast I read this book and how unputdownable it became!

This book is primarily a thriller, but there's a little bit of a rom-com vibe to parts of it too. I'm a huge fan of mixed genre reads, so this worked fantastically for me! Female MC Lily Lennox is one morally gray badass -- and I loved everything about her: she's quirky, flawed, beautiful, hiding a traumatic past, kinda awkward at times, manipulative, and oh yeah - a killer.

For 5 years in a row, Lily has returned to the exclusive Riovan Wellness Resort on a Caribbean island to work a lifeguarding job. She leaves her successful job as the owner of a catering company behind every summer, for 4 weeks, to work as a part-time lifeguard. Nobody understands why. And thankfully for her, nobody knows about the mysterious deaths that happen on the island every time she's there. She wants to make toxic people pay - and she is good at getting away with it. But this summer, Lily meets super handsome guest Daniel Black, and he's asking a lot of questions she doesn't want to answer. Can she keep her secret despite their attraction to one another that seems to just keep growing deeper?

This book has moments of dark humor that made me chuckle, with a compelling storyline that kept me turning pages. Though some may say the plot requires a little suspending of disbelief, that didn't bother me at all - I was here for it. This isn't one of those heart-pounding, creepy thrillers that will keep you awake at night. This is one of those thrillers that you'll love because of its characters, its storyline, its salaciousness, and its dark humor. There were a couple spicy romance scenes too, which added a little more fun to the read.

If you're a fan of morally gray characters who are a little bit unhinged but have a lotta heart, you're gonna love Lily Lennox! If you enjoy books about female killers, revenge, and thrillers set in lush tropical settings, or if you're a fan of mixed-genre reads, get ready to add A Killer Getaway to your bookshelf when it publishes in August!

As someone who normally doesn't read thrillers, I picked this book to read based one the cover and the catchy title.

The story follows Lily who escapes her corporate life every summer to work as life guard at a luxury resort. However, there is a purpose why she is there every summer. This summer though, there is the arrival of a reporter named Daniel, who wants to investigate the unsettling deaths at the resort.

Again as someone who doesn't read thrillers or mystery novels, I really enjoyed the twists and wanting to know what was going to happen next. The strong part of the novel was Lily herself, who was so complex. She was a flawed character who was morally grey but can also be caring and witty.
What was missing from the story was that the romantic connection between Lily and Daniel wasn't really there.

This was such a quick read. There was a lot less 'murder' than I initially expected but I think the message behind the book was really impactful. Would recommend to others!

I only started to get invested in this story over halfway through it. And even then, I didn't care about the romance at all. I don't know why they would want to be together. Also, this book should be marketed as lgbtq. I don't think it specifies Lily's sexuality. But she used to have a girlfriend and she's the reason she started killing people at the resort. I would say that in the majority of this book nothing happened, it was mostly just Lily thinking about killing people and her being attracted to the guy trying catch her. I didn't care for the ending and I really didn't like Daniel.

“Killer Getaway” by Sienna Sharpe is a sharply crafted thrilleresque novel that plunges readers into the heart of a luxurious Caribbean wellness resort, a place as vibrant as it is shadowed by secrets. The story follows Lily Lennox, who trades her corporate life in Cincinnati each summer for a lifeguard post at this exclusive retreat—a deliberate escape to the last place she truly felt happy and a place where she can right certain wrongs. It gives Dexter or Butcher and Blackbird feels.

Sharpe excels at peeling back the layers of Lily’s psyche, artfully exploring what drives someone who has suffered great love and devastating loss to seek justice on their own terms. Lily is a refreshingly complex protagonist: witty, deeply caring, and strikingly relatable, yet unmistakably scarred and flawed. The arrival of Daniel Black, a reporter investigating the unsettling string of deaths at the resort, adds both romantic sparks and suspenseful tension, forcing Lily to confront her own motives as their connection deepens.

The narrative is tightly paced, and the Caribbean setting comes alive with sensory detail, providing a lush backdrop to the unfolding mystery. Sharpe’s portrayal of toxic privilege disguised as wellness and buried guilt among the resort’s elite guests is as incisive as it is entertaining.

I truly enjoyed this ARC, courtesy of Net Galley and Sourcebooks Landmark. “Killer Getaway” is as much a study in character and justice as it is a page-turning romance/thriller, leading to a conclusion that is both poignant and surprising. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy psychological depth in their reads and a protagonist who will linger in your thoughts long after the final page.

A Killer Getaway is a fast-paced cozy mystery that kept me guessing. Sienna Sharpe delivers an engaging plot with just the right mix of humor and suspense. The characters are likable, and the setting adds charm to the story. A few twists felt a bit predictable, but overall it’s an enjoyable, light read perfect for a weekend escape.

I was SO intrigued by the concept of this one. A woman who goes away once a year specifically to kill someone? Female serial killer FMCs are absolutely my jam! But this one left a lot to be desired. The writing style just didn't work for me, and despite the killer premise, it ended up being predictable and long-winded. You can see the ending coming right from the beginning, which really took away from any suspense or intrigue for me. I wanted to DNF but kept hoping it would pay off somehow. It never did. I can see why others might enjoy this, but it just wasn't for me and that's ok!

Sharp, seductive, and delightfully twisty. This island thriller hooks you from the start. Lily’s tangled game with Daniel makes for an irresistible, sun-soaked page-turner you won’t want to put down.

A sultry blend of romance and revenge. “A Killer Getaway” was a fun summer multi layered mystery and Sienna Sharpe’s debut novel. The story centered on Lily Lennox. Each summer she escaped her normal life to work at a luxury Caribbean wellness resort—where she secretly killed guests she deemed dangerous. Until a suspicious journalist named Daniel arrived at the resort and started to dig into the resort’s dark history. At that point, Lily had to balance keeping her deadly secrets hidden with her growing feelings for the one man who may have exposed her.

Above all, I favored the story’s unique premise. I’m always on the lookout for debut authors and/or novels with new, intriguing plots with the most ambiguously flawed characters. And Sharpe delivered just that- a distinctive plot with an enigmatically unsound protagonist. Lily was calculated, cold, morally grey and darkly funny. She was a person I shouldn’t have favored but ended up rooting her in the end. Even more, I favored this unique premise and Lily’s quirkiness. Equally, I liked how Sharpe blended the mystery and romance genres. She combined these different genres skillfully so that the romantic subplot didn’t overshadow the mystery subplot. Lastly, I enjoyed the narrative style. I particularly liked Lily’s sharp, sarcastic, and emotionally layered tone. She was quite clever, twisted and tender hearted at times making it hard not to like her unique personality.

Aside from the features I liked about “A Killer Getaway”, there was one that I didn’t like-the overly drawn out narration. More specifically, Lily’s inner monologue. It became repetitive and dragged on. A little too much for my taste.

Overall, I applaud Sienna Sharpe for fabricating a skillful blend of romance and mystery into an entertainingly fun summer read.

This book had me hooked with the premise and that cover!

A lifeguard’s annual vacation with a sinister mission turns awry when a smart journalist starts to notice the bodies stacking up over the years.

Genuinely really enjoyed the thriller/romance combo in this book. For a serial killer that’s gotten away for so many years, Lily sometimes isn’t the brightest with her moves. I did love the sense of justice that she had against the horrifying resort. Check this out for a fun, summer read!

Thanks to @netgalley for an eARC of this book!

A Killer Getaway felt like if your favorite hot girl beach read and a morally gray revenge fantasy had a dangerously good time together. It’s sharp, layered, and just the right amount of unhinged.

Lily Lennox isn’t here to sip cocktails and find herself. She’s here to make sure the worst men don’t make it to autumn. Every summer she returns to the exclusive Riovan resort with a suitcase full of sundresses and vengeance. And I have to say… I ate it up.

She’s cold and careful, but never flat. Her backstory hit hard, and I appreciated that she wasn’t romanticized or reduced. She’s messy, methodical, and in her own way, kind of magnificent. The story leans into that tension between grief and grit, violence and control, without flinching.

And then there’s Daniel Black. A curious, handsome journalist who starts to unravel Lily’s secrets and complicates everything. Their chemistry builds in this subtle, charged way. It’s not a hearts-and-flowers romance, but it is sexy, layered, and just dangerous enough to keep you hooked.

The pacing is tight, the setting is lush, and the moral ambiguity had me flipping pages and questioning my own ethics more than once. It was also giving me slight White Lotus vibes with its mix of romance, secrets, and looming danger, and I wasn’t mad about it.

My only small thing? I would’ve loved a little more space for the emotional side of the romance to land. But overall, this book delivered exactly what I wanted—something clever, deadly, and totally addictive.

If you’re into morally gray women doing what needs to be done, island settings with secrets lurking beneath the surface, and light romance and heavy tension, then this one should be on your list.
