I recently had the privilege of diving into an ARC of “The Whisper Place” by Mindy Mejia, and it was an enthralling journey from start to finish. Mejia has crafted a story that is both haunting and beautiful, leaving a lasting impression long after the final page.

The novel centers around Lily, a young woman who returns to her hometown after the mysterious disappearance of her childhood friend, Ethan. As she reconnects with her past and unravels the secrets hidden within the small town, she discovers that the truth is far more complex and dangerous than she ever imagined. The atmosphere is thick with tension and the sense of unease is palpable, making for a truly immersive reading experience.

Mejia’s prose is lyrical and evocative, painting vivid pictures of the setting and the characters’ emotions. The characters themselves are deeply flawed and incredibly human, each grappling with their own demons and desires. Lily’s journey of self-discovery and her determination to uncover the truth are both compelling and relatable.

What sets “The Whisper Place” apart is its ability to blend elements of mystery, psychological thriller, and literary fiction seamlessly. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the reader to savor each revelation and twist. Themes of memory, identity, and the shadows of the past are explored with great sensitivity and depth.

“The Whisper Place” is a mesmerizing read that will keep you guessing until the very end. Mindy Mejia has once again proven her talent for storytelling, delivering a novel that is both thought-provoking and utterly captivating. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a richly layered and emotionally resonant mystery. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

This is the third book in the Celina Investigation series, following How to Catch a Storm and A World of Hurt. These books should definitely be read in order, as they are a continuation of the story, though this installment is less dependent on the first two than book 1 is to book 2.

I really enjoy the dynamic between Max, a former cop, and Jonah, a psychic, who are best friends and co-owners of a private investigation firm. When Charlie walks in with $10K in cash, asking them to find his girlfriend, it leads them on a cross-border search. I love the duo’s chemistry, and while their spouses are minor characters in the series, they add great depth! Jonah’s girlfriend is a gifted scientist, and Max and Shelley are working through a rough patch in their marriage.

This book publishes on 9/16—thanks to @netgalley for the advanced copy! I’ve read most of Mindy Mejia's previous books and highly recommend them!

How do you find a woman who doesn’t exist?! As a former police officer and a psychic detective, Max Summerlin and Jonah Kendrick may not be the most conventional business partners. But together, they have years of investigative experience, and opening Celina Investigations feels like a natural decision. When a man walks into their office searching for his missing girlfriend without a past or even a name, Max and Jonah realize their newest client may present their hardest challenge yet. Their first task: find out why he refuses to go to the police?! Good book! This book had good suspense, murder, good mystery, intrigue, and a few good twists! The story was interesting! I definitely enjoyed reading this book but it wasn’t one of my top favorites! I would still recommend reading this one! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I want to start off by saying that this was the first book I read from the series. I am sure that I would have understood more of the character development if I had read the first two books, but I do not think that they are totally necessary. That being said, I thought this was a good mystery. I was not amazed by the story, but I was not mad about it either.
