More Than This by Jay McLean is an emotional, heartfelt story about healing, friendship, and finding love in unexpected places. It follows Mikayla and Jake, two teens brought together by tragedy, who navigate heartache and hope as they grow closer. With relatable characters and raw emotion, it's perfect for fans of intense contemporary romance.

Description- When Mikayla imagined her prom night, she envisioned a fairy-tale evening full of romance. So when betrayal and tragedy come in quick succession, Mikayla is completely destroyed. Suddenly, everything she loved and everyone she relied on are tragically, irrevocably gone.

Jake, a handsome boy she just met, happens to witness her loss. With no one to turn to, Mikayla is forced to depend on this near stranger and his family, and he in turn is determined to take care of her. But Mikayla—thrust into adulthood with no one to guide her—is desperate to contain her grief and hide what she considers to be her weakness. Mikayla and Jake both want more, but despite their growing closeness and intense chemistry, she tries to keep her distance and protect her heart. As he does everything in his power to win her trust, Mikayla must choose between remaining alone and safe or letting love in.

I received this books years ago from NetGalley as an ARC but never reviewed it at the time…. Which was a shame on my part because this was one of my 2015 favorites but it’s also still a good read through if you’re looking for romance that will put your through the ringer!

This was good story. Not great, but good. I struggled a bit and I know this is a classic case of, “it’s not you, it’s me,” since everyone I know that read it, loved it.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

This was an okay-ish story for me. I know this story is about teenagers and I understand how easy it is to become dependent on someone after a huge loss like Mikayla experienced, but I didn't click with how dependent she was on Jake and vise-a-versa. I wanted to like it, I really did but ultimately, I fell in the minority and just didn't end up liking the story.

This was cute, but it just ultimately wasn't for me. I wanted to like it but it just didn't do it for me.

I am a fan of Jay McLean. I think every book she'll write is an automatic to-read book for me. I had a great time reading this book and I am really looking forward for more books from her.

This follow a girl named Mikayla who finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her with best friend on the same night she comes home to find her entire family has been killed in a burglary gone wrong. It was definitely emotional and heart wrenching at times, although I feel the romance personally wasn't for me. I didn't click with how dependant they were on each other, or the miscommunications that were constantly causing problems just because they didn't talk properly. I wish I could've clicked better with this one!

I thought this was a cute love story that had an interesting tragic side to it. But I thought her holding out on Jake was just a bit....ridiculous. I also thought the chapters with the jealousy back and forth were never going to end - I just think maybe my reading taste has shifted and these angsty over-the-top romances are not my cup of tea anymore.

This was a really great book that I really didn't want to put down. It showed real life and relationships with people which meant I felt like I could really connect with the characters and situations!!! Emotional rollercoaster

Mikayla and Jake <3

Where is my Jake, the boy with an Aussie accent?

Okay so this book is heartbreaking. Heartbreaking is the word that best describes this novel. Mikayla has her heart broken time and time again. What could go wrong, will go wrong with her. But we have Jake. The boy who is the only thing holding Mikayla together. Together these two experience some horrible events together. I can't wait to read the rest of the series to learn more about Jake's friends (I hope we get to see more of the friends).

I have mixed feelings on how to rate this book and how heavy my feelings should way it down. I do want to be fair. I really enjoyed the story but there were some things that didn’t sit well with me. MORE THAN THIS started off so light and bubbly. I had no idea what horrors Mikayla was going to suffer. I loved how Jake and his family rallied around Mickey in her time of need. It restores your faith in humanity and makes you hope if your child was in this situation they’d have people around them just like them. Mikayla and Jake’s romance was of the extra slow burn variety. I have no issues with that especially under the circumstances but there were other things, things they didn’t discuss that irritated me. I know she went through a horrible ordeal, but it didn’t seem natural that they’d not address certain things. Overall, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Such a beautiful story - there are so many ups and downs that it's such an emotional rollercoaster

I'm a bit conflicted as to how I feel about this book. . I felt emotionally connected to the characters and wanted them to be together. But, on the other hand, there were some things that just seemed way over the top, and I couldn't buy into them. Those things, combined with the constant back and forth between the main characters and the extreme (and immature) jealousy being displayed by them both on numerous occasions really put a damper on my overall enjoyment of this book.
