4.5 ⭐️ Wow. This book had me gaslighting myself the entire time. I absolutely adored Eddie Flynn's associates and loved the team that he built. As a Criminal Minds and CSI lover, I also loved the brutality of this case and reading about all of the evidential findings during the trial. This was my first Steve Cavanagh book but it will not be my last, I think it is so smart that they are republishing these books!

In this book Eddie Flynn, a highly respected lawyer, is representing Sofia Avellino. Her sister Alexandra is represented by Kate, and this is her first trial she has done on her own. The Avellino sisters are on trial for the brutal murder of their father Frank. Frank's case is very high profile as he was the former mayor of New York City. Both of the Avellino sisters placed a call to 911 on the night their father was murdered, but who is the killer?

I want to thank Netgalley, the Publisher, and Steve Cavanagh for allowing me the opportunity to read the arc of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Any time a new Eddie Flynn book drops, it goes straight to the top of my TBR—and this one did not disappoint. From the first chapter, I was flipping pages like my life depended on it.

Eddie is defending Sofia Avellino, accused—alongside her sister—of murdering their father, a former NYC mayor. Both sisters made frantic 911 calls blaming each other. So, who's lying? Told through Eddie, one of the sisters (who is truly chilling), and powerhouse attorney Kate Brooks, the story pulls you in.

The courtroom scenes are top-tier—tense, clever, and totally immersive. You feel every twist, every stare-down, every shift in the jury box. And just when you think you've got it figured out… you don't.

One of the most gripping legal thrillers I’ve read in awhile. Fast-paced, smart, and deeply satisfying.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC.

This is my first Eddie Flynn book, and oh boy, why didn't I read this series before!? I loved everything about this book. I loved how it was very hard to put down at three in the morning. I loved Eddie and felt like I connected with him. I was so sad when something really bad that Eddie had to go through in the middle of this one. I need to read the rest of the series and get to know more about him! Thank you, NetGally and Atria Books, for this opportunity!

Two sisters, two 911 calls, each accusing the other of murdering their father.

This was my first Steve Cavanagh novel, and it definitely won’t be my last. While it took about 20% of the book for me to feel fully hooked, once I was in, it was impossible to put down. Even though there are only two suspects, Cavanagh masterfully keeps you guessing, constantly flipping your suspicions back and forth.

One of the things I really enjoyed was the use of multiple points of view, including the murderer’s. The chapters from the killer’s perspective are chilling, disturbingly descriptive, and incredibly well-written. They added a gritty intensity to the story that kept me on edge.

I also loved how the author brings us into the courtroom and lets us experience the legal drama unfold from the inside. Watching two trial defense attorneys go head-to-head, with high stakes and clever twists, made for an especially gripping read.

If you enjoy legal thrillers with psychological suspense and dark twists, Fifty-Fifty is worth picking up.

Many thanks to Atria and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fifty-fifty. Two sisters. Their father is murdered. Each is claiming the other one did it. Buckle up for a wild ride!

I just want to start by saying I went into this book not knowing it was part of a series. I did some research and learned it could still be read as a standalone, which is what I did!

I’m a huge fan of watching true crime and murder documentaries, and that’s exactly what it felt like while reading this book. You get the POV of the lawyers representing the case, but also of the murderer! It’s cleverly written and just when you think you have it figured out, you don’t! I was so torn on which sister to believe, and it was even more difficult because I really liked both of the lawyers and wanted them both to win.

Overall I think the pacing of this book was decent. It slowed down a little bit for me in the middle (hence 4 stars) but the last 20% or so really picked up for me once it got to the trial, and I FLEW through the pages to find out the ending! The final twist was AMAZING and I loved how this book played out!

Thanks to NetGalley, Atria Books, and the author for the eARC!

This a legal thriller that was just okay. I enjoyed reading it but it was not my favorite by this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Alexandra and Sofia blame each other for their father's death. Both are arrested and tried. One is innocent... the other is pure evil. Who do you believe?
I was so excited to receive this ARC! I love Steve Cavanagh's writing and I love Eddie Flynn and the other characters that inhabit his world. I have never come across a Steve Cavanagh book that didn't suck me in. He is a master of suspense, thrill, and mystery. Every book is full of twists and turns that surprise the reader BUT they all make sense. There is no shock for shock's sake. I have stopped trying to guess where the story is headed because the journey is part of the fun!
Cavanagh's characters are always well developed. There is a uniqueness to his storytelling that I have not found elsewhere. Storytelling through multiple points of view has become commonplace for psychological thrillers but the point of view of the mysterious big bad is something most authors shy away from. Cavanagh brings you into the villian's thoughts in a chilling fashion and it adds much to the story. This is absolutely a Read It!

Note: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Read my first Eddie Flynn/Steve Cavanagh a couple of years ago and was hooked immediately - Cavanagh is quickly becoming one of my must-reads in the thriller space! Especially love these as an attorney myself, so the courtroom drama and procedural stuff is right up my alley. I read this in two sittings but could've been finished in one, I really could not put it down and needed to know who the real killer was!

Thanks to NetGalley & Atria for the ARC!

Thank you Net Galley for the e-arc! Another banger from Steve cavanagh, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite thiller authors. This book starts off with a bang. We have to sisters who call 911 claming that the other sister brutally killed their father Frank (who is a pretty big deal) we follow many pov throughout this story from Eddie Flynn, Kate, Harry, and even the killer. I thought I would hate how many povs that were written but I was absolutely loving the different characters and the perspective they all had on the case. I will say now that l've read two Eddie Flynn novels that you definitely have to like that legal jargon in order to fully enjoy these books, over half the story is set in the courtroom during the trail of the sisters. I felt that this story was extremely twisty and shocking but at the same time I felt myself guessing every single moment and then getting it correct, for that reason I could only give in four stars. Still a fantastic novel./

So apparently I am going to read this series randomly and out of order! Originally released in 2020, this is being re-released or released in the US or something to make it pop-up with a pub date of June 3rd. No matter, I have been enjoying my reading dips into the world of Eddie Flynn, former con man and current lawyer. (Some think they are the same thing and they might not be wrong.) The story was incredibly deceiving. Told from both Eddie's point of view and the point of view of the sister that murdered her father, it was a minefield of misinformation and red herrings. But, at the same time, some things were incredibly obvious and I liked where I thought parts of the story were going. Kinda wish they had gotten there in a slightly different way at points, but overall this book kept me turning pages and wondering when I could find time to read more in the series.

Two sisters are on trial for killing their father, both blaming each other for the kill. Eddie and Kate each defend the sister they think is innocent, but in an unfolding of clues, and some tragedy along the way, both lawyers start to question who is the killer afterall.

This was my first book of the Eddie Flynn series and I liked it! Procedural thrillers are not my usual genre, but I liked Eddie and Kate's characters. The build was pretty slow for me, but I enjoyed trying to figure out which sister was guilty.

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Definitely was drawn to this book due to the description. Two daughters stand on trial accusing each other for the murder of their father, previously a NYC mayor. I was pretty hooked, always wondering which daughter was it, or wondering if there were going to be some crazy twists and turns. It was certainly an entertaining read, but a bit more straightforward whodunnit.

Talk about a propulsive book, I have one for you.

Two sisters who hate one another are accused of their multi million dollar father's heinous death. Both Alexandra and Sophia Avellino, daughters of a former mayor Frank Avellino, are accused of the crime. They were present in the murder room covered in blood, both phoning 911, both claiming innocence.

Eddie Flynn and a new lawyer, Kate Books, take on separately the defense of the sisters, Eddie is Alexandra's lawyer while Kate takes on the defense of Sophia. The ladies are to be tried together with the premise that the prosecution will either get one or both sisters convicted.

However, there is someone who is intent on getting rid of any person who is a danger to them. Is it one of the sisters who underneath is perhaps a serial killer? The tension is high as the court scenes take on finger pointing aspects with excellent lawyer skills from both Eddie and Kate.

Definitely an excellent book for those of us who love mystery and a courtroom drama. This fabulous book keeps one on the edge from its explosive start through the entirety of the story.

Thanks to the author and NetGalley for an arc. I really enjoyed this. If you like legal thriller/mysteries you’ll really enjoy this. Fast paced and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen. Finished in less than 24 hours so a quick read. A father is murdered and the two daughters are the suspects and are pointing the finger at each other. Definitely recommend!

NEW ARC READ!!!
RELEASE DATE : 3RD JUNE 2025

Date : 19th May 2025
Book : Fifty Fifty
Author : Steve Cavanagh
Genre : Psych. Thriller / Mystery / Crime
Publisher : Atria Books

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This is the story of Sofia and Alexandra, two estranged sisters with a traumatic past who calls the cops one night to report the death of their father who was murdered brutally.

The problem is they are calling on each other and now find themselves having separate lawyers (Kate and Eddie) trying to prove that they are innocent. To make matters worse, more bad things start happening the more they dig deep into this case.

This was my first time reading this genre on crime and I get the hype although to me personally, I did find the book predictable. But I really love how this book did have its anxiety ridden moments and the author did keep me captivated with the storyline. So kudos to that!

I would like to thank @atriabooks , @netgalley and the author for letting me read this arc and to give my 100% honest review on it. Thank you 🙏🏽

Wow! I am still left shocked and speechless! Steve Cavanagh truly has a way with words. I felt like I was on the case and trying to figure out which sister had done it. I was SO shocked by several of the twists. The ending made me GASP so hard that I had to put the book down for a moment to recooperate. lol This book is truly gripping and will completely keep you on the edge of your seat. Eddie is an absolute boss. He's hilarious and sarcastic but knows his stuff when it comes to defense. He truly makes me want to devour the book in one sitting. Harper and Bloch were equally amazing in their own rights. Kate is a character you'll grow to love and want to back her! She's inspiring to all. I just loved every moment of this book! It's easily a 5 star read!

I received this book from NetGalley and Atria Books to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

I am going to give this four stars. I was on the fence because I started to get impatient at 70%. That however is the curse of thrillers. I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen but then I didn't. It keeps you on toes and involved.
Now let's talk about Eddie. This lawyer needs an old fashioned TNT or USA Network 45 minute drama. The more I read him and this book, the more I saw it on television. This is because the book is written in a way I can see as being easily adaptable. The best current example would probably be a Netflix limited series.
Definitely going to read more.

Steve Cavanagh’s stories always keeps me interested from the first page. This one kept me on edge guessing. He makes you feel as if you are in the story with the characters and he still leaves you shocked in the end. The characters are serious but comical at all the right times. Literally made me giggle aloud a couple times. The ride was wild but worth it in the end. A must read!!!

📖 Book Review 📖 Move over Lizzie Borden and OJ Simpson, the new trial of the century is here in Steve Cavanagh’s thriller Fifty Fifty. A 911 call comes from a house reporting that a father has been murdered and the caller is terrified that she is next- the killer is her sister and she is still in the house. And then the same call comes again…from the other sister with the same story. The murder victim is the former NYC mayor and the two sisters are on trial for his murder, garnishing lots of attention in this high profile case for Eddie Flynn. Steve Cavanagh delivers one twisty, suspenseful book that does not let down for one second!
