Fifty Fifty hooks you right from the start, a murder case where two sisters each accuse the other of killing their father, and no one knows who’s telling the truth. With a joint trial and two defense attorneys battling it out, the tension never lets up.
I was glued to every twist, constantly changing my mind about who the real killer was. Watching Eddie Flynn navigate both the courtroom drama and his own personal challenges made the ride even better. A sharp, addictive legal thriller.

I knew I liked Steve Cavanagh after reading Thirteen. I’ve been hooked ever since! This one continues the story of Eddie Flynn, a conman-turned-lawyer who only defends clients he truly believes are innocent.
This time, Eddie’s caught in a wild case: two sisters accuse each other of murdering their wealthy father. Both were in the house. Both called 911. Both claim the other one is a monster.
The plot is totally over the top but in the best way. I’m a big fan of the Eddie Flynn series. Eddie’s super likable, and the courtroom scenes are always top-notch .
I kept changing my mind on who I thought the killer was and there were some twists I did not see coming! Such a fun, well-told story. Can’t wait to read more from him!

Sisters Sofia and Alexandra Avellino both call 9-1-1 and and accuse one another of brutally murdering their father. This becomes a high profile joint trial to determine who really killed Frank Avellino.
Without out a doubt, one of the sisters is a liar and the other is a straight up killer. Cavanagh had me hooked from the jump and I readily buckled myself in for the wild ride.
One thing Steve Cavanagh is going to do is grab your attention from page one and wont let up until the very end and MY GOODNESS did this story play out in a way I did not think possible. There is a lot of legalese throughout the book, which was a bit much at times, but I was still totally invested.
If you are into legal thrillers with high stakes and a ton of suspense, then I strongly recommend this book to you.

Eddie Flynn and team are back to dive into another high-stakes case! Sisters Alexandra and Sofia Avellino are both on trial for the gruesome murder of their father, but not together; they are accusing each other! Who is the victim, and who is the real murderer?
I normally have to start series in order, but it is so easy to discover Eddie in any of his books. Part legal thriller and part detective series, Cavanagh crafts stories with a bit of something for everyone to enjoy! And the plot - he will keep you guessing, that is for sure! Now to head back and meet Eddie in book 1!

Two sisters, one high profile murder victim, this is one twisted story.
Each sister calls 911 within a minute, accusing the other of killing their father, former New York City Mayor. Follow the trials and verdict amidst the chaos. The multiple POV adds to building the suspense and keeps the reader glued to the pages until the explosive end.
This is my first read by Cavanagh and I will definitely be running to read his entire catalog.
Rated a solid 4.5 Stars rounded to 5
Thank you to @atriabooks and @netgalley for this advanced listener copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you Atria and NetGalley for providing an e-copy to review!
This was my second Eddie Flynn novel, and while I liked the first I read, this one cemented the series for me and convinced me I need to read them all.
While the mystery is interesting, the real star of this book are the characters. While Eddie is an interesting main character, young attorney Kate Brooks stole the show for me.
Once I got about halfway through the book I wasn’t able to put it down!
I definitely suggest this if you like procedural tv shows like Criminal Minds, or noir detective vibes.

My first Steve Cavanagh novel and it is absolutely not my last. Fifty Fifty kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. It's a book that kept me in suspense and wanting to know what was going to happen with every chapter. The characters are fantastic, and while it's the fifth in a series, it read great as a standalone too. Can't wait to read more by him. Highly recommend this one!
Thanks Atria Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
4.5/5 stars

Fantastic and twisty in the best way! Two sisters, both with motive to kill - a classic whodunit ...
This one kept me reading long into the night.
The writing is fine. The double trial a little far-fetched - but what a ride! Will read this author again and again.

This book was a ton of fun but I didn’t LOVE it, just liked. It’s just beyond unbelievable and actually quite predictable. I loved other books from this author but this one just didn’t quite convince me.

This thriller grabbed me from the very first page. Eddie Flynn steps into a twisted murder case where two sisters are on trial for the same brutal crime, each accusing the other of killing their father. The whole premise had me questioning everything I thought I knew.
I loved the blend of fast pace, courtroom tension, and psychological mind games. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another twist threw me for a loop. The alternating viewpoints, especially the shadowy “She” chapters, kept me flipping pages late into the night.
The killer’s abilities did feel a bit over the top at times, almost unreal in how slick and unflappable they were. But I was still hooked. I’d give Fifty Fifty 4 out of 5 stars.

A unique story of twins and a murdered father… I honestly kept going back and forth on who was the guilty one… and I still got it wrong! Eddie Flynn is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.
Both sides of this case are strong, stubborn and convinced that their client is innocent - they wouldn’t take them on if they weren’t… but only one of them is right in the end.
I loved a series where the characters repeat but the stories are independent. I can’t wait to read the next Eddie Flynn adventure.

A solid suspense novel from Cavanaugh, but felt a bit formulaic. Thank you for the copy to read and review. More detailed review to follow.

“One of them is lying. The other is worse.”
Thank you to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh.
This high-stakes legal thriller with a courtroom showdown between two accused sisters is a page-turner from start to finish. It explores justice, manipulation, and what people will do to protect themselves, with gripping plotting and a brilliant female defense attorney at the helm. Perfect for fans of John Grisham and Lisa Scottoline.
I’ll be sharing this review on Goodreads, Instagram, StoryGraph, B&N, and Amazon.

This is the second book that I’ve read in the Eddie Flynn series, though it’s the fifth book in the series. I previously read Thirteen, which was a fast paced and fun legal thriller, I’ve been having a hard time finding books that hold my attention, so I decided to pick this up since I liked the previous book so much. Fifty Fifty didn’t disappoint and I think the Eddie Flynn series will now be my go to when I need something fast paced that holds my attention.
This book has such a great premise - two sisters call 911 to report that their father has been murdered and each blame the other. The entire time I went back and forth on which sister was the murderer. There were some elements on the plot that were over the top and a bit implausible, but it didn’t bother me too much. It was just the type of read I needed and now I’m on the hunt for other legal thrillers that will scratch the same itch.

Fifty Fifty is a fast‑paced, twist‑heavy legal thriller that kept me turning pages late into the night. Steve Cavanagh’s signature courtroom drama is at its sharpest here, with two sisters accused of murdering their father—and both pointing the finger at each other. The tension is electric, the pacing relentless, and the alternating perspectives make it hard to decide who to trust.
The legal maneuvering is clever without feeling bogged down in jargon, and Eddie Flynn remains a compelling, quick‑thinking protagonist. While a few moments stretch believability, the ride is so entertaining that it hardly matters.
A smart, compulsive read for anyone who loves courtroom battles mixed with psychological mind games.

This book was fabulous! Cavanagh does not dissapoint! If you love good plot twists and a legal setting, pick up this book ASAP. Cavanagh's twists and turns keep you guessing until the end:)

This was another book from the Eddie Flynn series. The book started off good as they usually do and kept going from there. I kept going back and forth on who I thought it was, but then I would find myself changing my mind. This book really was a wild ride! I loved the intro to the character Kate and i’m happy to see her now as a permanent character in the series. From the start of the book to the courtroom scenes, I found myself not able to put this down. I did feel the book just ended, but at least everything was wrapped up. This was a really fun read that I recommend!

Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh is a masterclass in courtroom thrillers. Fast-paced, clever, and full of jaw-dropping twists, it kept me guessing until the very end. Eddie Flynn is at his best—absolutely gripping from start to finish!

This is one of those books where the concept is really straightforward - two sisters accuse each other of the murder of their father - and it is expertly executed. I'd say if you are at all intrigued by that set-up, then you should pick up this book. Full stop. No notes.
When I saw this on NetGalley, I had never heard of Steve Cavanagh nor the Eddie Flynn series. I didn't do any research prior and only found out this is book #5 in the Eddie Flynn series when I went to get the cover art from Goodreads. There were a few spots where Eddie was mentioning his past that I wondered, briefly, if there were previous books but those wonders were quickly dismissed as the book addressed those points in such a way that felt more like book 1 in a series instead of book 5. I didn't feel like I was out of the loop on anything and would still recommend this read if you've never read any other Eddie Flynn books. I do plan on going back and reading the earlier books in the series.
The characters in this were great - we get 5 different POVs - and each of them felt very well developed and distinct. Our POVs are both sisters, Eddie, another lawyer Kate, and then the POV of the killer who we know per the premise is one of the sisters but the specific sister is never named in these killer POV chapters. I loved that these different characters also all interacted with each other throughout the read so we not only get Eddie's view of Kate but also Kate's view of Eddie. I think this was a great way to get character development into the story while keeping the main plot moving ahead quite quickly.
The mechanic of the killer POV was fantastic. The first time it showed up, I thought it was obviously referring to one specific sister and maybe this read was going to turn into the type where the reader knows more than the characters. But then the next time we got the killer's POV, it seemed to point to the other sister. It continued like this, flip flopping back and forth between the two sisters, for the rest of the book. We got so much information, but it was still muddied all the way until the end for me.
I haven't read a lot of legal thrillers, so I don't have a lot to compare this one to. I did like that it wasn't too focused on the actual court proceedings and instead felt more like a PI investigation/detective fiction. The legal stuff we do get on page is very well explained that I think even someone not versed in this genre could follow just fine.
Overall, this was a great legal thriller and I very much enjoyed the characters and POV mechanics. I will 100% be reading the back books in this series and look forward to reading on in the series as well.

The Eddie Flynn series never fails to deliver, and Fifty-Fifty might just be one of the most gripping installments yet. The setup is brilliant: two sisters, one dead father, and both claiming the other is the killer. From page one, the tension is relentless, and it only ramps up as the story unfolds.
What I loved most was how cleverly the narrative kept me guessing. The title couldn’t be more appropriate - I flip-flopped constantly on who I thought the real killer was. The “She” chapters were especially chilling and clever, forcing me to read between the lines and analyze every word. Was it Alexandra? Sofia? The clues pointed both ways, and I second-guessed myself more times than I care to admit.
I also really appreciated the multiple POVs, especially Kate’s. Her voice added a strong emotional core and grounded the story amidst all the courtroom drama. Speaking of which, Steve Cavanagh writes courtroom scenes like no one else. They're smart, fast-paced, and dripping with tension.
This was such a fast-paced, addictive read. The only reason it’s not five stars for me is that I occasionally wished for a little more depth in the emotional stakes. But as a legal thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, it was absolutely top-tier.
If you love twisty mysteries, unreliable narrators, and legal drama that packs a punch, Fifty-Fifty is a must-read.
