Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
I hadn’t realized I’d read another book in this series, Witness 8, until after I picked this one up because while Eddie Flynn is a distinct character the plot was of Fifty Fifty was so unique from that one (and setup well as a standalone in both cases) that I was fully embroiled in this twisty thriller without realizing the overlap.
Sure to suck you in, Fifty Fifty is a look at a brutal murder of an ex Mayor, Frank Avellino, at the hands of one his daughters- both have called in the murder accusing one another. While the book introduces a few characters who speak from their perspectives, the most intriguing is that of ‘She’, the true murderer who is still murdering those who could pin her for the crime while setting up evidence to get her sister jailed. Is the right sister convicted? Is Eddie on the right side? You’ll thoroughly enjoy finding out in this well written book.

5⭐️- this was a great legal thriller with wicked little twists! I’ve had this one on my tbr list and love this series. It comes out in the US in June and I was lucky enough to receive the ARC. I enjoyed and buckle up for the ride. Cavanagh lines up a great cast of characters with my favorite, Eddie. Which sister is the killer and which one to trust? It’s cleverly Fifty-Fifty and you will have to read to find out! Looking forward to reading the next one in this series!
Highly recommend for legal thriller fans when this one comes out and grab your popcorn!
Expected release: 6/3/25
✨Special thanks to NetGalley & Atria Books for this complimentary digital advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

good I really liked this one Lots of mystery and very eye catching cover. This author has become one of my favorites

Steve Cavanagh’s Fifty Fifty is the kind of thriller that grabs you by the collar, shoves you into a courtroom, and doesn’t let go until the final gavel drop. Two sisters, one dead father, and a legal battle where both claim the other is the murderer—this book is a masterclass in deception.
Cavanagh’s signature fast pacing keeps the pages flying, and the alternating perspectives (including one from the real killer) create a psychological game of cat and mouse. Eddie Flynn is back in action, and as usual, he’s a defense attorney you actually want on your side—sharp, relentless, and just a little bit morally flexible.
The best part? The guessing game. I had my suspicions, I made my predictions, and I was still second-guessing myself up until the big reveal. If you love legal thrillers packed with tension, sharp dialogue, and enough plot twists to make your head spin, Fifty Fifty is an absolute must-read.
Final verdict? Guilty of being unputdownable.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Atria Books in exchange for an honest review.

The book actually opens with an emergency call and doesn’t slow down from there. I’m not typically into detective thrillers but this felt like listening to a true crime podcast

This is my first read from Steve Cavanagh, and if there's one thing that he does well, his premise makes it impossible not to pick up. Two sisters call in accusing the other of murdering their father, you have to be wondering who did it.
In the first 25-30% of the book, I admittedly was a bit disappointed because I thought I'd had it figured out. However, Cavanagh's writing quickly turned it around to make me truly unsure of what the true ending would be. This genuinely had me guessing up until the last chapters (despite my best effort of guessing who the murderer was).
If you enjoy a courtroom mystery that will make you pause and weigh every piece of evidence that's brought to light, Fifty Fifty is the book to read. I'm excited to say I plan on devouring everything that Steve Cavanagh has written, he has made a fan out of me!
I'd recommend this book for any fans of The Silent Patient or Freida McFadden.

I love to watch Police and Court Room procedural shows but for some reason, I do not love reading them. If any book was going to get me into it, it would’ve been this one so for that reason, I rated it up.
What a premise-two sisters call in the death of their father back to back-each blaming the other. Eddie Flynn is to defend one of the sisters in court. But after waiting only 48 minutes for the jury to decide, it’s time to find out the verdict.
Told us multiple POV, from the lawyers and “she”, you love the lawyers-both are who you want to root for. They have integrity. They’d never represent someone if they thought they were guilty. But one of the sisters did it. It’s time to find out which one…
Thank you to NetGalley, Orion and Steve Cavanagh for the ARC. All opinions stated here are my own.

Steve Cavanaugh can do not wrong so when I saw this one pop up I jumped on it! He did not disappoint and continues to be an autobuy author for me, and I am continuing to work my way through the back list.

When sisters simultaneously call to report that her sister has murdered their father, who’s to be believed. Add to that, Eddie Flynn, the creative-with-the-rules/push-the-boundaries lawyer and his crew, and you get an entertaining legal investigation and courtroom drama.

An excellent read for any and all readers! Author comes at you with both barrels and knocks you out of your shoes! Great job fleshing out all the characters. I give this book FIVE stars! Definitely recommend!

I didn't realize Steve Cavanagh played ball. Because he knocked this one out of the park!!
Fifty Fifty is a compelling story about two sisters who couldn't be more different. One is a cunning killer. The other is an innocent bystander. Both are pointing the finger at each other when their father is brutally killed. Now they are both on trial for murder. Who is guilty and who is innocent?
I really enjoyed this one by Mr. Cavanagh. His Eddie Flynn series is consistently great and keeps getting better with each book.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I would suggest this book for my older students. I think they would enjoy the mystery part of it and also a look at how the legal systems works as part of the book takes place in a trial. There were sections that were gory, in particular the sections told by the murder "she". Overall an interesting story, strong characters and easy to get involved with.

Two sisters with a long standing hatred of each other and their very wealthy father murdered by one of them. Eddie Flynn takes on the case of one of them, he only represents people he believes are innocent. Corrupt judges, correct prosecutors, Eddies associate and a determined defense attorney for the other sister, populate the main characters in this story. A fast read, a suspenseful read and a satisfying conclusion. 4.5 rounded up

Steve Cavanaugh has quickly become a must read author for me. I was introduced to him through one of his standalone novels, which I devoured. Once I discovered this legal series that follows Eddie Flynn, I can’t get through the books fast enough. He writes quality thrillers that are engaging and not filled with fluff just to meet a word count.
Cavanaugh has a way of writing that immediately gets the reader engaged. Fifty Fifty requires the reader to determine which sister is a murderer. It is written in multiple perspectives, with the murderer simply being “She.” As I read the “She” perspective, I tried to determine if I was reading Sophia’s perspective, or Alexandra’s. I went back and forth a couple times. You will fly through this fast pace thriller!
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC train for my honest review.

Steve is one of my favorite mystery writers! This book does not disappoint. The characters are so well developed. Keeps you guessing to the end

Two sisters accuse each other of killing their father but who actually killed him? When I saw what this book was about I immediately added to my TBR and once I started reading it I could not stop. This book will have you shaking your head and guessing right up until the very end. Some may find this one a little predictable but I didn't guess the end so I was glad for that. I'd like to elaborate but really can't without giving spoilers so I'll just say this book was a fun, fast paced, murder mystery!
Although I have read Steve's work before, I had not read any of the books in the Eddie Flynn series and now I definitely want to read more.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks NetGalley and Atria books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. I do enjoy the Eddie Flynn series, but this is one of my favourites. I really had no idea where this book was going. It can be quite graphic at times, but it’s also very edge-of-your-seat reading. It kept me hooked to the very end. Definitely check this book out when it’s released in June 2025.

Book #5 of the Eddie Flynn series. It starts out with a bang - two sisters accuse each other of murdering their father. Their separate defense try and prove each of their clients innocence through a bunch of twists. This series is strong and this is another good installment. 3.75 stars, rounded up.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Captivating mystery where two sisters are defending themselves, with separate lawyers against the charge of (either individually or jointly) viciously murdering their wealthy father, right before he is scheduled to change his will.
Interesting court room drama with the bodies piling up during the case. It underscores that in the United States the best lawyer, the one who puts on the best show, more than a defendant's innocence, it what wins the case.
Talented writing, keeps you reading, however it follows the disturbing prevalent trend of crime dramas where you do not like and of the characters. Could have benefitted from either a compassionate (or at honest) character, with a bit stronger character background development.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.
