I loved this book so much I devoured it in one day. Brilliant!

You know what I loved most about this book? Unlike most fantasy novels that drag on and on, this one gets right to the point. It is action packed, makes sense, and isn’t too complicated to follow.

I just love Tamsyn. She is such a strong character. I loved how she didn’t back down when she was treated badly by the Pride. I liked how she trusted her instincts and went to the ends of the earth for those she loved.

Vetr sucked but he was meant to suck. I can’t say much more without giving anything away, but Vetr deserves loneliness.

The ending was good. Quick, but the perfect ending. The epilogue makes me wonder though if there will be another book. If there is, count me in! I can’t wait to see what comes next.

My only note: I never want to read any variation of the word “breeding” ever again. Ick. I also wish we got the flashback of what happened to Fell once we got closer to the end of the novel. That would have helped reveal what really happened.

I was so so so excited to receive this ARC since I loved the first book. I wanted to love this book so much but I didn't. I was so confused at the beginning of the book not knowing that stuff happened and it was like a year after the first book. I didn't like how it took Tamsyn 75% of the book to want to go looking for Fell... I really missed Fell in this second book. I am going to continue the series but I'm hoping the next book is better.

While A Fire in the Sky was one of my favorite reads of last year, this book was a little disappointing, to be honest. Tamsyn was pretty unlikeable for the first 1/3 of the book or so, but at the end, I do recognize the growth and full return of the character. I enjoyed the dual POV in the first book so it was a pleasant surprise to see more of it in this book.

Some criticisms: The massive time jump was unexpected, leaving me scrambling to catch up in the beginning. And then the bulk of the book was spent on traveling, and it felt more like a filler... reaching substantive parts of the book was so refreshing, but I still feel like it didn't really make up for the other parts. I wanted and needed more romance! The author left a few unanswered questions/ open endings to give away to future books, which I am curious about. I'm unsure if there will be a next book, and I'll probably read it anyway because I'm committed, but I'm left feeling a little underwhelmed.

Thank you to Avon/ Harper Voyager & NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book!

I knew this book would sink its dragon like claws into me just like the first book did. Wow! Sophie Jordan has a knack for writing deliciously enthralling fantasy romance. The growth of the characters in this book, especially Tamsyn was absolutely perfect!

"A Fire in the Sky" was the first book I read by Sophie Jordan & given how popular & enjoyable dragon romantasies have been lately, I was eager to read it & even more eager to get my hands on "A Scar in the Bone." After finishing it, what I can say is....it's not what I expected at all.

It starts a year since the end of AFitS & Fell's sacrifice & to be honest, I did not like the time jump at all , as I felt like it was super unnecessary given what did & didn't transpire in that year. I feel like Jordan was trying to make the sequel a "Tamsyn Comes Into Her Own" story which is fine & all but what made AFitS so enjoyable to me was the push & pull between her & Fell & that was severely lacking in this book. The romance in general was lacking in this book & I was disappointed. I still found this book very readable (I finished it in like 2 days) so brownie points to Jordan for that & I still found the MMCs endearing, I just wish there wasn't so much time spent on....things that would be spoilers. I'm not sure if there is gonna be a 3rd book or not but I hope so because I do want to continue immersing myself in this world, even if I didn't find ASitB as enjoyable as it's predecessor.

A Scar in the Bone is an amazing sequel to A Fire in the Sky by @sosophiejordan. It had the right blend of heartache, romance, adventure, and suspense - I could not put the book down! I finished this book in two days.

Tamsyn evolved so much throughout this book and I was all about it. She knows what she wants and is willing to do what is right for those around her. While she was looking for Fell, my heart just broke for her and it was so heartbreaking. Their bond is too deep, that I really hoped for the best for them.

The reunion of Tamsyn and Fell was SPICYYYYYY! AH! I loved it!
I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to the next one!

Let me just start by saying this will be a no spoiler review and I was so excited to read book two in this series after flying through book one. Fell is my man and the reason this book just did not work for me is that for one not enough of him BUT mostly because there was too much that just didn’t fit well. Yes the story had interesting parts but you begin with a huge time gap and then get not having made any progress. Fell is missing (not a spoiler check description) and there is just not the same pull into this story. I needed more from this book that had momentum that continued from book one. It didn’t for me. Am I curious about book 3 ? Yes

This series is one of my favorites I’ve come across over the last year, and I’m so glad A Scar in the Bone didn’t fall to the second book curse. It has everything: dragons, magic, witches, plot twists, bonds, found family. I loved every second of it.

I’ll be the first to admit that I kinda forgot what happened in book one, but once I started reading it came back pretty quick. My girl Tamsyn is still as strong as ever. Infuriatingly so. I really loved the dynamics between her and the pride and that she as able to find herself🖤

Vetr. I want to like you, but….you make it difficult😒

So excited for the next book to come out and see what happens after that epilogue!

*Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Sophie Jordan delivers a darkly atmospheric, beautifully written fantasy romance with *A Scar in the Bone*. From the opening chapter, I was completely drawn into this haunting world of ancient customs, forbidden love, and the secrets that bind people to their fate.

The protagonist is fierce, vulnerable, and wonderfully complex. Her journey through grief, defiance, and unexpected passion felt so authentic and emotionally charged. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, with just the right balance of tenderness and intensity.

Jordan’s lyrical prose and immersive world-building made it impossible to put this book down. The pacing is tight, the tension builds masterfully, and the gothic undertones lend an irresistible, moody edge to the entire story.

I highly recommend *A Scar in the Bone* to fans of atmospheric fantasy romance and anyone who loves stories that linger with you long after the final page. I’ll be eagerly awaiting whatever Sophie Jordan writes next.

I devoured A Scar in the Bone in one sitting—Sophie Jordan knows how to keep you hooked from the very first page. Picking up right where the last book’s cliffhanger left us, this sequel delivered everything I hoped for and more. Tamsyn continues to shine as a fierce, determined heroine whose loyalty and strength make you root for her through every twist. And Fell? Still brooding, still brutal, still absolutely magnetic—even though he was technically the villain.

Just when I thought I had a handle on where things were going, the twin brother reveal dropped and completely shook things up. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what it meant for the love story, the prophecy, and Tamsyn’s fate. Without giving too much away (because spoilers would be criminal), this installment is intense, swoony, and packed with surprises.

If you’re into morally gray love interests, heroines who refuse to back down, and high-stakes drama with a touch of fantasy danger—A Scar in the Bone is 100% worth the read.

Thank you for the ARC! I went into the second book expecting strong character and relationship development. Ultimately, I felt that it felt a little flat overall for me. The book was confusing to get into in the beginning and I felt like I had missed something at first from book 1. I do enjoy twists and turns but I don't think the direction of the plot went as smoothly as the other had intended.

Loved getting to learn more about the dragons, but imo that’s all this book was. The time jump to a year after the ending of book 1 threw me a bit at first and it felt like a completely different story. I was hoping Tamsyn would come more into herself over the course of the book, just felt lacking in this area until the very end.

✨ SPOILER WARNING ✨

Seeing Vetr do some shady stuff to try and bond Tamsyn 👀 felt a bit off that Fell was essentially non existent through like ~75% of the book, especially after how book 1 went. Feels like there will be a book 3? Excited to see where this story goes if so.

A Scar in the Bone starts right in the middle of the action - Tamslyn is mourning her losses and struggling to adjust to life in the dragon horde. If you haven't read A Fire in the Sky, I'd recommend going back and starting with that one - this book not only expands on themes in that book, but Tamslyn's journey is a lot more impactful when you see where she's come from.

The first book began with Tamslyn in a helpless position, put in an arranged marriage for the good of the kingdom, and really made some interesting metaphors on dragon shifting as a freedom from expectations and the transactional nature of how many women were historically treated. Scar of the Bone continues that, with Tamslyn quickly realising that women in the dragon pack may not have the freedom she hoped for.

I loved the complex relationship that Tamslyn had with her family in the first book, and so I was glad to see her sister Alisa cameo, even if I wish we had more of a sense of what was going on with the rest of her kingdom. Tamslyn develops a sister like relationship with teenage dragon Kiersten, and Jordan really shines when it comes to relationships with women.

For fans of the love story, they may be disappointed that the two are separated for most of the book (and that Tamslyn considers moving on), but I hope that Jordan continues the series. The ending of the book seems to imply there is more story to tell, and this book really felt like a middle chapter - I'm excited to see what Tamslyn and Fell can do as shifters together.

I'd recommend this one to fans of Sarah J Maas or Rebecca Yarros. Thanks to Avon and Harper Voyager for the early copy.

I hate to say this, but I didn’t love this book. It just wasn’t for me. I tried multiple times to get past the main character's annoyance or the lack of plot. It just didn’t stick. I could not believe where it went. I felt very confused and annoyed throughout the beginning toward the middle. That’s not a good thing when reading a sequel in a series. It just isn’t sitting the same as the previous one. Even though it wasn’t for me, you may enjoy it much more than me.

This is a follow up to Sophie Jordan's A Fire in the Sky-- her first bout with romantasy. Unfortunately, the series has been lackluster. I don't hate it, but I also don't look forward to the next one. I'm not super invested in these characters, so I'm not in suspense of what will happen next.
It could just be that I'm not a huge fan of Sophie's writing so other's may feel differently about this book. It just so happens that I read this right after I read Juliette Cross's Firebird-- another dragon-shifter romantasy-- and that blew this one out of the water.

Summary:
For some strange reason, we start the book and the main character, Fell, has died. In fact, he's been dead for a year. (Writing this, I now know why I wasn't a fan of the story). Tamsyn is living with Fell's brother and his pride. Said brother, who I forget the name, has the hots for her and she's confused because they are identical twins. It just gets cooky after that. Homegirl Tamsyn, decides-- after A YEAR-- to go looking for Fell, The rest you gotta read, but at this point int he story you have like 50 pages left.

I had high hopes for this book after the previous one. We were left off with a pretty interesting cliffhanger and I was excited to see what came next. But I was a little disappointed when I opened the book and to see that a year had passed since the last book. Currently, Tamsyn has been with this dragon pride for a year and in that team Fell apparently is “dead”. However, the bond she feels with him is still there and those around her are telling her it’s an echo and that it will go away. So she has trained and tried to fit in but never feeling quite right about it all. She has an opportunity to see how outside the pride and realizes how much has changed for the worse since she and Fell had left. And eventually, Tamsyn finally listens to her instincts and decides to do what she wants. I started getting more into the story not until the very end where Tamsyn finally heads out to search for Fell. Before that, it just felt like we missed so much and I wanted us to go back. Tamsyn it took a while for her to really start standing up for herself and say what she wanted. I was happy when she finally did. She became a much stronger character because of that. Not sure if this series is quite done yet. That epilogue feels like we have some open-ness to it. So it will be interesting to see if it continues.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hopefully I'm not giving anything away. Thanks, NetGalley for the ARC. I loved the first book A Fire in the Sky which was a five-star read for me so I thought I would like this one as well. Unfortunately, I didn't like it as much. I did discover while reading this book that I have a pet peeve and that is every chapter had Tamsyn's name instead of just saying chapter and the number which I understand why because for over half the book it is told from her POV but it bugged me so bad that I almost didn't continue the book and if the first book was like that I simply did not notice but I really love the main characters Fell and Tamsyn and I was hoping it would pick up right where the first book ended but it didn't. I feel like that is a lot of the reason why I didn't enjoy this book as much. Because there was a gap between the ending of the first book and the beginning of this one. That I was left with trying to remember new characters that almost as soon as they were introduced, I would pretty much forget who they were by the time they would be mentioned again. So not enough character development in this book for me. Although because of what this book was about. I can understand why it was written that way and why the author had to skip ahead instead of picking up right where the first book ended. Even though I figured out what was going to happen early on. I still enjoyed it and while I didn't fly through it as quickly as I did the first book, I still thought it was a quick read. So that is why I am giving it four stars instead of the 3 stars I was originally going to give. Also, I am hoping for a third book I'm not sure if this is just a two-book series, but I really would like to continue to dive into this world as well as continuing my journey with Sophie Jordan whom which I have never read till I read A Fire in the Sky.

I really wanted to love this book 🥲 A Fire in the Sky was a 5 star read for me this last year so I did go into this one with pretty high expectations. However, I feel like there were quite a few things that knocked this book’s rating down to a 3.5 for me.

For starters, I was SO confused at the beginning. Without giving anything away, I had to go back and reread the last few pages of the first book to make sure I didn’t miss a MAJOR plot point. And it turns out I didn’t, the author just decided to take the plot in a very different direction and we find out about it after the fact in a very round-about way.

This brings me to my next point….I didn’t love losing the dual POV narrative. I really fell in love with Fell in the first book because of his chapters! And I understood his and Tamsyn’s relationship much better through these glimpses from the both of them.

Tamsyn quickly became one of my favorite romantasy FMC’s but for some reason her character just fell a little flat for me during this book. I loved the idea of a quest but the stakes ultimately never really felt that high. I wish we would have gotten more from the year we lost between books, it probably would have made me much more empathetic to Tamsyn’s situation.

The ending of the book also confused me just as much as the beginning…..I have so many questions. First and foremost, will there be another book?? The epilogue mentions a few things that feel super open-ended but others felt very final. I would love another book if only to know what happens to the main characters and also the witches!!! I want more about the witches!! So, Sophie please give us more!

Absolutely devoured the first book, however this one fell a little flat for me. It felt a bit icky with Fell’s twin brother in the mix and him convincing her that he died… I just really do not enjoy any sort of cheating even if she thinks he is dead idk. That just really bothered me and this was one of my most anticipated books of the year.

Let's be real, I read this because of the cover. But the story itself captivated me. I am newer to reading fantasy so I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I actually really liked it.
