*I received the ebook as an ARC read from the publisher*

The books in this series are very middle of the pack. They don’t have a strong plot or character development but they’re entertaining. If you want a surface level romantasy that is more fast paced, these would be for you. If you’re looking for strong character development and rich world building, maybe pick up something else.

This series has a lot of potential. I love the idea of shapeshifting dragons. But it was so rushed it fell flat. I also felt like the main love story in this series feels forced. I know nothing really about Fell and feel like Tamsyn doesn’t either? Which was believable in book 1, but very much not in book 2.

I just finished A Scar in the Bone and honestly, I’m so sad it’s over. I read it way too fast and now I’m stuck waiting for the next one! As soon as I got the ARC notification from NetGalley, I jumped right in—but quickly realized I needed a refresher on A Fire in the Sky. I’m really glad I went back and listened to the audiobook this time—it was amazing and helped me catch so many details I missed the first time around.

Since book one had a lot of world-building, this one picks up right where we left off. It’s about a year later, and Tamsyn has grown so much—she’s really coming into her own as both a dragon and a human, balancing both parts of her identity. There are tons of twists and turns, and I never quite knew where things were heading, which kept me totally hooked.

There were so many emotions while reading this. I got a little nervous when I saw the epilogue, but thankfully Sophie Jordan gave just enough resolution to feel satisfying—while still leaving enough open to hope (and pray) there’s more coming.

Now I’ll be not-so-patiently waiting for the next book. And seriously—preorder this one if you haven’t already. The hardcovers are gorgeous!

Sophie Jordan, you cannot lose a main character for 75% of the book and then expect us to care in the end. A Scar in the Bone dragged with a sluggish pace, making it difficult to stay invested, and by the time the missing character resurfaced, any emotional weight had long since evaporated. The story felt hollow, lacking the tension and engagement needed to sustain interest. While Jordan's writing has its moments, the structure of this novel ultimately made it frustrating rather than compelling.

Great book! I was hooked from the beginning of the book. Such a great plot and characters. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this e-arc.

Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Since this is a sequel I won't say much. I really enjoyed getting to learn more about the dragon lore and so much of the backstory underlying book !. Sophie has really built such an intriguing world and I am desperate to see what comes next.

Ever since I finished Sophie Jordan's A Fire in the Sky, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, so I was extra delighted to get an ARC of A Scar in the Bone.

This next book takes place a year after the events of the first book, which is honestly a bit disorienting. I actually had to go back and reread the last chapter of A Fire in the Sky to see if I had misremembered how it ended. In that book we left off with Tamsyn married and in love with Fell, The Beast of the Borderlands. The very last thing that occurs is his heretofore unknown identical twin brother, Vetr walking in on them,

in A Scar in the Bone, Tamsyn is now part of the dragon pride led by Vetr, and Fell is apparently no more. Sophie Jordan handles the time jump well, clueing us in slowly but surely on the circumstances that brought about the tragedy of Fell's absence from Tamsyn's life, and how she has been coping since then. In a word, poorly. She is haunted by the loss of Fell, confused by a slow growing attraction to Vetr, and desperate to learn to control her dragon essence. Add in a horrific encounter with her estranged friend Stig, and you have quite the maelstrom of emotions, inciting a whole host of conflict.

Sophie Jordan knows how to write a book you don't want to put down, and this book is no exception. Although set in a fantasy realm, there are timely ruminations on tolerance, misogyny, fascism, and self determination. My only quibble is that the ending felt a little rushed. I would have happily spent a longer time in this land of humans and dragons, where it is hard to tell who is the more monstrous.

I enjoyed the first book in this series even with its flaws. I was hoping that the author would build the story and it would grow and be better than the first book. Unfortunately, this one left me feeling meh.

The ending picked up with excitement, and then wrapped up quickly. But then the final pages left you unsure what was next. Not sure if I will continue the series if there is another book published.

I read this book right after the first one, as I didn't read it prior. The first book ended on a great ending to keep people attached and wanting more. This book though was another super slow book. I had a really hard time getting into it as it felt like another stand alone book and not a book in a series. While I am happy that Tamsyn and Fell ended up together I think that the book could have used more of them together. I know that it was about Tamsyn being able to overcome what life threw at her, I just expected more romance due to how the first book ended.

3.5 stars. I liked the book. Definitely not as much as the first one. My main issue is Vetr. He was just so…creepy. He knew Fell was still alive and tried to take his wife. Tamsyn and Vetr’s romance felt weird and unnecessary. The spice scene between them was so gross knowing Fell could feel it was happening through the bond and could do nothing knowing his wife is moving on while he is suffering. I also didn’t like Tamsyn being annoyed with the bond and even asking him to just let her go so she can move on…I think I would have liked the book better if her love for Fell never wavered.

The reunion was good but their love just didn’t feel as strong that she was ready to move on with his brother. I think Fell should have came back way earlier. It was a nice ending I’m not sure if there will be a third book. I’m not sure I would want to read it expically if there will be an another love triangle between them again.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sophie Jordan, and the publisher for an advanced copy of A Scar in the Bone. I am sad to say that I did not enjoy this sequel at all. The character development was not consistent and the story felt forced. I liked and had fun with the first book and read it in one sitting. This one was more of a slog. There were a lot of parts and details that didn’t need to be included and felt a lot like filler. Also, the ending was so quick. One second they are fighting and the next it’s the epilogue. It wasn’t a very fulfilling conclusion. I’m sad to say, but this just was not it for me.

I really enjoyed A Fire In The Sky, but A Scar in the Bone was kind of boring and confusing. There was some fast-paced and interesting scenes, which is why I rounded up for my rating, but overall, I had no idea why the first 55-60% of this book was needed and I didn't get where the story was supposed to go.

I'm not going to say anything else because I didn't want to leave a review with spoilers for a book that hasn't been published yet.... but I will say it has an okay ending if you want to stop reading the series here.. if it's even considered a series? I couldn't find any information about how many books there would be. I was leaning towards this just being a duology with how the last chapter ended, but then the epilogue happened that does insinuate a third book is possible. I most likely will not continue the series though if that is the case.

I need more!!! I could genuinely read 3 more books about Tamsyn. Without spoiling too much, Tamsyn and Fell spent the majority of this book apart; it was great to see her character develop more though I would have loved more of it (a lot of the plot happened off page). I know it's problematic but a part of me is rooting for Vetr and I ate his yearning UP. I need more of him even if his arc with Tamsyn has played out (though the epilogue gives me hope that there is more to explore there). Genuinely, no one does love, yearning, and BRAVE female protagonists like Sophie Jordan. I will excitedly purchase the hardcover when it comes out as I loved it just as much as Fire in the Sky and I can't WAIT for the next book!

Sophie Jordan knows how to ignite a world, and this book absolutely burns, in the best, most feral way. I’m obsessed with the way Jordan writes tension—emotional, physical, romantic. The romance, layered with grief and distrust, is slow and smoldering in all the ways I crave. The themes of identity, loyalty, and power are woven into every breath Tamsyn takes, and the writing moves like fire through wind; unpredictable, vivid, and devastatingly beautiful. I loved the way magic and mythology aren’t just backdrop, but bone-deep, aching truths. This book roared with intensity, and I’m still reeling from it.

After reading A Fire in the Sky, I was excited to read A Scare in Bone. This book picks up a year after the first one ends. Tamsyn is figuring out how to navigate a new dynamic as she learns her husband is gone.

I enjoyed revisiting this world, seeing the characters grow, and being introduced to some new, powerful personalities. In all honesty, Sophie Jordan could write about the paint drying, and I would devour it. The way she writes always keeps me wanting to read more and more, which leaves me to read her books in a day or so.

All in all, I had a good time reading this book and would give it 3.75/5 stars. At points, it felt like we were getting a shallow view of the characters, and plot points were paced somewhat abruptly. It felt like the setup for a third book, yet the ending still wrapped things up quite nicely.

This story starts a year after the first book left off. Fell is missing Tamsyn is trying to find her place in the world. She finds herself trying to become apart of the pride of dragons but failing to accept things as they are. Who will she be other than the former whipping girl? Only time will tell.

I wanted to love this one because I really enjoyed the first but this one fell short for me. I liked that we got more of Tamsyn but book 1 developed such a beautiful beginning between Tamsyn and Fell I was hoping for that. I didn’t enjoy the time jump really I feel like it would’ve better if we had seen a glimpse into that time.

Will I read the next one? Yes because I can’t leave things undone but I will say up to this point this isn’t my favorite of the series.

Thank you NetGalley Avon and Harper Voyager for the book in exchange for my honest review.

Something about this series really does it for me. I read this in one sitting, in less than 3 hours. I think I liked this book more than the first one. Tamsyn is more confident and comfortable with herself. She knows what she wants and she will do anything she has to. She is willing to suffer for what is right. I'm not totally sure how I felt about Vetr. The ending with Stig really surprised me. And the epilogue has me ready for the next book.

2 spice (slow burn).

This one was better than the first in the series.
It picks up a year after the first book (which ended on quite the cliff hanger). Tamsyn is learning how to be a dragon and use her powers and also to hide her dragon to blend in with people. Fell has been lost in a dragon on dragon skirmish, but she swears she can still feel him through the bond. But ... that twin brother is starting to maybe look appealing, will she go for it with him? Tamsyn still largely feels like she doesn't belong even among other dragons, will she find her place?

The book answers those questions and more. If you enjoy reading a lot of different fantasy, you will probably enjoy this book. If you only like to read fantasy occasionally, I think there are other books that are better at world building than this one. Typically with a fantasy, particularly with a female lead, I either want to feel like I want to be her (wow, look how strong and amazing she is!) or feel associated with her in some way (I can see parallels to her struggles and my own). Ultimately, this book did neither for me so it was hard to feel truly invested.

That last section of the book wraps everything up in a bow (perhaps a little too convenient), which I appreciate but it also felt very rushed.

I loved book 1 so I was excited to read this one. I would say that this is definitely a book 2 full of filler. It's absolutely setting up a (hopefully) epic book 3. I'm looking forward to where that takes us.

I really, really enjoyed A Fire in the Sky so I was so excited to receive an ARC for the second book in the duology. I even reread the first book so everything was fresh in my mind. This book didn't meet my expectations, which is kind of shocking since I try to go in to reading new books with zero expectations. Fell's disappearance happens off page and even by the end, you still don't know exactly what happened. The other pride members were flat, Kerstin had a little bit of personality so she slightly stood out. Vetr was a watered down version of Fell and not much of a compelling second love interest. The pacing was slow and the plot felt disjointed. I'm guessing Stig was supposed to be the big villain of the story? This is a big world and it felt like the story didn't live up to its potential. This is supposed to be a duology but there were so many loose ends that I could see her writing more in this world. I would read another one if the series continues on but this book was a miss for me.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
