I’m so upset because I LOVED book 1. But this just did not live up to it at all.

It took until 60% to even get semi interesting. I could not have cared less before that point. The brother storyline was so dumb.
Then it was semi interesting but still not great.
And then the end was very rushed.
It wasn’t terrible, but I can no longer recommend this series

Wellllll I wanted to love this but Sophie did me wrong right from the start! This will be impossible to keep spoiler free so please beware.

While I still enjoyed the world and the relationship between our two mains I was beyond disappointed that the MMC, Fell, did not appear in 75-80% of the book. And what had happened to him happened off page and was only told to the reader. It was really unexpected and such a major part of the story that it left me pretty upset for most of the book. AND THEN Tamsyn was manipulated so hard by Vetr and ALMOST went too far. It was too close for comfort and I couldn’t understand how some still considered it crossing the line.

I do still enjoy the author’s writing and I will still definitely continue this series to see what happens next. Just still a bit disappointed how little we got of the MMC. Thank you so much to Avon and Harper Voyager for gifting me this eARC!

I went back and reread the first book before I decided to go into this one so I had a fresh memory. I had a really hard time with this book. Don’t get me wrong. I still managed to read it in a day. The author is a good storyteller. It was more of the plot and what happened. If it wasn’t for the fact that I did just reread the first book before I went into this, I would’ve been so confused because all of a sudden starts a year later and we have no knowledge of this going into it and the love of her life is just apparently dead and she’s trying to learn her life of being a dragon. I feel like that was just very rushed. And there could’ve been a better way to get that across without us getting confused.
But because of that I spent the first half of the book not caring about her trying to be friend her husband’s brother and family. I was just so focused on why is he gone? How is he gone and there’s something else is going on.
Other than that, the book was pretty good and I have no complaints

I did love this book. I had been waiting for this book for what felt like forever.
This opens up with what happened to Fell’s mother. I got so emotional and cried through the whole prologue.
I must say I wasn’t a fan of Fell’s brother or the Pride. Tamsyn was always treated like an outsider. She continues to look for that place she can feel she belongs.
There isn’t much of Fell in this book. There’s talk about what happened to him. Tam still feels that strong bond to him. This is more Tamsyn’s journey, her growth and learning just how strong she is. This about her discovering what she’s capable of doing for the one she loves.
What is done to Tamsyn and what they let them to her is horrible. I don’t know how she falls for everything Fell’s brother says. He’s the worst.
The ending was not a real ending. This was left open where it needs another book. Loose ends need to be tied up and Fell and Tam need more than that for their happily ever after.
I loved it and I would love to see more from this world.
I’d highly recommend it. But before this book Fire In The Sky must be read. This can’t be read as a standalone.

This book.... I struggled with this book a lot. The 1 year time skip was pretty wild and I felt like I was jumping into a different book than what I had finished in book 1. I really hope there will be a third book because I felt that the ending was pretty unsatisfying the way it was written. I thought Fell's brother and that whole arc was kind of unnecessary and just sought to drag out the plot. I'm not sure why if we were doing a time jump we couldn't have gone straight to the end where people come back and then move on from there. I still liked Tamsyn but overall I did not enjoy this book.

Review: A Scar in the Bone by Sophie Jordan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sophie Jordan returns with a blazing sequel in A Scar in the Bone, the second installment of her A Fire in the Sky series. This romantasy raises the stakes with fierce battles, aching love, and a heroine who refuses to be broken.

Tamsyn’s transformation from palace pawn to dragon warrior is nothing short of breathtaking. With Fell torn from her side and magic on the brink of extinction, she’s thrust into the heart of dragonkind—a world that doesn’t trust her, but desperately needs her. Jordan’s writing pulses with urgency as Tamsyn trains, bleeds, and rises, forging herself into a protector of both humans and dragons.

The emotional core of the story is Tamsyn’s bond with Fell, a love fated to endure across lifetimes. Their separation is agonizing, and the tension between hope and despair is beautifully rendered. Add in Vetr, Fell’s enigmatic brother with silver eyes and simmering distrust, and you’ve got a triangle of loyalty, longing, and latent power that keeps the pages turning.

Jordan’s world-building is lush and immersive, with the Crags, the pride, and the swirling mists adding texture to the high-stakes plot. Themes of identity, sacrifice, and resilience run deep, and the magic system continues to evolve in compelling ways.

A Scar in the Bone is a darker, more introspective chapter that doesn’t shy away from pain—but it also celebrates transformation, love, and the fire that lives in those who dare to fight for what matters. A must-read for fans of dragon lore, fated mates, and heroines who rise from the ashes.

I spent half of this book mentally screaming at the FMC but that shows I cared, right??

- Genre: Romantasy
- Brain On/Off: off
- Themes/Vibes: both - misogyny & needing autonomy, but also just vibes 😜
- Characters: 3.5, but I wanted more Fell and more depth to the side characters
- Plot: 2.5- loose ends (missing details of important plot points, what happened to certain side characters?), things resolved/tied up too quickly, I almost wish less had happened so we could go more in depth. All in all I wanted MORE.
- Setting: 3
- Writing Style: 3
- Emotional Impact: 3
- Enjoyment: 3.5

Overall: 3-3.25⭐️

Any book with dragons in it is an automatic add to the TBR for me. Although it was a slower start for me, I was on the tip of my toes during the last half of this book and couldn’t put it down. Tamsyn had some character growth towards the end and I love seeing that in a sequel. The time jump threw me off a little and it took me a little to catch up, but once I did the story really took off!

Loved the first book, but felt a little lukewarm about this one. I'm thinking that a lot of the plot points in this book act as the bridge for the next book so I'm definitely going to keep with the series. The plot felt a little too drawn out, but I can almost taste the potential for really good character development/storylines in the next book.

Missed the mark for me this time around. Could probably give another chance later on but I don’t think I’ll circle back to try again.

My poor girl Tamsyn just can not seem to catch a break. After losing Fell in the first book, Tamsyn finds herself in the crags with the pride of Fells brother, Vetr. Suddenly being amongst dragons after having spent her life as a human, she finds her self struggling to adapt and be accepted by the other members of the pride. To make things worse, everyone, mostly Vetr, keep telling her that Fell is gone, though she can still strongly feel him through her bond. This poor girl is so lost and alone, it really made me love her all the more and feel everything right alongside her.
This was definitely a ride, as it seemed that trouble and danger constantly find Tamsyn. I was finding myself caught up in the pages of her journey, cheering her on and hoping that she would keep going and never lose hope. She is definitely a strong female, being able to keep standing back up, to keep going, even when everyone is telling her to do otherwise.
I greatly enjoyed this book, and the continuation of the first, and I truly hope that there is another one coming one day! It certainly felt like it was left open for more to come!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to ARC read this novel! I'll be continuing to wait for a, hopefully, third book!

I have mixed feelings on this book. I was very excited for this one after the ending to the first book. I was so ready for us to see Tamsyn powerful and empowered after shifting and to see the moments after where she began to learn everything about shifting. Instead we get a one year time skip that feels like a complete disconnect from the story. We don't get to see any of the immediate fall out of Tamsyn shifting or any of the moments with her learning about her dragon and integrating into the pride. I was really confused with this since Tamsyn seems to have made no progress with any of this. We actually barely saw Tamsyn in her dragon form and I feel like nothing really happened in this book. At this point I was way more invested in Fell's disappearance and story. It felt like he was just written off to have his twin Vetr become a more leading character and add a new dynamic with his interest in Tamsyn. Overall this was fine but I never really became invested and feel like there so many loose threads at the end for this being a duology. Maybe this world will have more books in the future based around some of those loose threads.

4.5/5
I was not expecting the way it started. Tamsin is a wonderful main character navigating her new life and form and her new relationships. The side characters are wonderful. The other dragons seem very diverse and interesting. I wish there was more depth to the relationships but I know the story focuses on tamsins romance and relationship. I absolutely love how more of the world is explored. And it more focuses on the dragons. I hope there is more for this world because I need it!
Thank you NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read this book early!

I struggled with this book. I’d like to start by saying A Fire in the Sky was my top read of 2024 and everytime I reread it, I continue to keep it a favorite. However, the sequel fell prettt flat.

While I expected a tiny time jump after the ending of AFITS, I did not expect such a large time jump. I also didn’t expect to be tossed in with what we learned the outcome of Fell was. Throughout most of the book, and I mean chapters 1-23ish, we follow Tamsyn and explore what feels like hasn’t been a year. She doesn’t fit in with a Pride that she’s been with for SO LONG already, and we sort of explore her sad feelings about her husband’s death.

But that’s just it. It all fell so flat. It felt more like “oh no, my husband is gone” and not actual grief. It felt like she bumbled around the Pride and training as if she was a child who just got there. But it had been a year.

A whole year, everything about this book felt very surface level. Barely there world building and I get it, considering they were basically in caves or walking around mountains. This book lacked a lot of the emotional feelings to it with Fell being gone for most of it. It makes me contemplate if I need to step away from the series.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon and Harper for the early review copy.

This was enjoyable and an interesting continuation of the first book. In the beginning, I felt a bit lost and disconnected from the plot, and it wasn’t until around a third of the way that I was able to get more settled into the narrative and start to feel some momentum in the storyline. I don’t think I loved this as much as the first book, but it is definitely a unique and intriguing direction that the author chose for this second installment. And the ending had me second guessing if there would be more books to come.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC. I was excited for the dragons, magic, and romance. Unfortunately, did not like this one nearly as much as the first one. I was looking forward to more in depth world building and character development that usually happens in second books in a series but unfortunately expectations were not met. The story and characters felt disjointed and the time jump this book did from the last one just seemed like a plot cop out and at the same time added nothing? Not sure. Was kind of annoyed while reading which is never a good sign. I didn't feel connected to or care about their story at all. The ending of the first book had so much potential.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this book when I first started. This is the sequel to A Fire in the Sky and one year has passed since the end of book one. I was a little thrown off at the jump in time and the fact that Tamsyn still seemingly doesn't fit in with the new pride. There is also a new love interest, Vetr and I wasn't sure how I felt about that because I absolutely adore Fell. All that being said, the first half of this book was touch and go for me and I thought about DNF'ing but I'm glad I stuck with it because I absolutely loved the ending. This one still ends with many lose ends, that I'm sure will be covered and hopefully resolved in the next book.

I'd give this one a 3.5 stars. Rounding down to 3 because this one was tough at the start for me. I'm definitely interested in continuing this series when the next book comes out.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager | Avon for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was good but I loved the first one better. The ending did leave me excited to see what comes next.

Thank you publishers for this e-arc 🫶🏻

I have to admit , upon being sent this , I did not read the first But I did ! And I loved it so much , I was so happy to get to read the second ASAP !

This picks up right after the events that happened in the last one , so it felt nice getting right to it ! Tamsyn in this book is learning to deal with what she had discovered about herself and is navigating this whole change in this book ! I love all the different love interest that are thrown , and the world building !

I do have to say I found some parts to be dragging and hard to follow but as soon as I got over the middle part things started to get so good !

I can’t wait to read the next and am so happy this story will continue on.

Content Warning: violence, whipping, buried alive

This is the sequel to A Fire in the Sky which I rated 3 stars. And I was very curious after the cliffhanger in book one to see what would happen in book two and things got interesting.

One year has passed and Tamsyn is dealing with the lost of Fell. Vetr, Fell’s twin brother, has taken her into their dragon pride and is teaching her how to fight but she is lost in grief. She feels the bond with Fell still and cannot let go. She finds out that Stig (once her good friend but has turned evil) is now married to her younger sister and is Lord of the Borderlands, now that Fell is gone.

Vetr is not trustworthy and even when his desire for Tamsyn is made known, he kind of gave me the ick especially during an event where he made her go into alone to test her. I did not like him and really balked at how maybe she started to feel something for him. But I did like that we get to learn how Vetr runs things in his pride and how things worked among his dragons.

Tamsyn does grow a lot in this book but I was getting frustrated with her for the first half of this book. She’s stuck between thinking she can be both human and dragon but to be human she has to hide her dragon side. To be a dragon she has to forget her human family.

Once more the last 25% of this book was full of action, some twists and turns and then there was an abrupt ending. There is also the addition of a new character. There is an epilogue but I felt unsatisfied.

Final Thoughts:

I read this in one sitting because it’s a fairly easy romantasy to read that isn’t bogged down with detailed world-building. Also there are a few twists and turns that kept me invested. The animosity between humans and dragons is strong, but now the author has thrown in a third enemy – witches. The ending is too abrupt and leaves me wanting to know more and I feel like the epilogue is hinting that there will be a book three. I liked that Tamsyn has lots of growth and I did like the romance storyline (not with Vetr though) and will probably be reading the next book.
