I would give this somewhere between/ around a 4 Ish range. I am/ was so excited for this release. Fire in the sky was such a top fun read of mine last year and I ate it up. I also zoomed through this book as well.

I will say I wish Fell came back a bit earlier or they had some more romance scenes. I also agree with another reviewer where the return of Fell is spoiled with the character POV. But also in Sophie Jordan fashion… HEA are huge! So I didn’t think Fell was gone for good (and tbh thank gosh for that because I would have been so upset if this wasn’t a HEA with them!).

I would say this book focused more on Tasmyn growth and handling her emotions. Deciding her own fate. It was a different take than the first one with the mood and overall feel of the book. Also the twist with Fell’s brother was wow! I expected it a bit but also ate it up at the same time. I still enjoyed it though! But I do wish the romance was a bit more prominent and more moments between Fell and Tasmyn. Fingers crossed for a bonus epilogue in the future with a future edition of some sort? Would love another scene with them!

This book definitely requires readers to read the first one. You will be so confused if you didn’t read it. I overall had a great time and look forward to future works by Sophie Jordan! I’ll be recommending this book as well.

A Scar in the Bone is the second installment in the A Fire in the Sky series and it picks up around a year after the last events. Tamsyn is still with the other dragons, having lost Fell, and is learning how to best cope with the loss while also trying to find her place in two very different worlds.

In this adventure I felt that the storytelling and pacing were stronger than the first book. It was easy to follow along with Tamsyn and watch her story unfold without pause or awkward stopping points. In fact I felt that the one of the only qualms I had were with its ending, it felt just a bit abrupt and not as satisfying as I would have liked and some of my questions were left unanswered.

Despite that, I think I had more fun with this book and was a little sad when it ended because I would have liked more. One of my favorite parts about this book vs its predecessor was its worldbuilding for the dragons as well as all the background stories involved with them. Sophie has created such a unique twist on dragon lore and culture it will have you wanting more and more.

4/5

I was very confused at first until i realized it was the second in a series. I tried to start the first, but neither book unfortunately caught me attention.

A Scar in the Bone picks up a year after A Fire in the Sky, and while a lot seems to have happened off the page, it takes some time to learn what all went on.

So, the beginning felt a little slow, getting us caught up. But I was more invested by the last 40%, when Tamsyn started to take control of her story.

Expect a lot of dragon shifters, some romance — mostly longing — and a sort of abrupt arrival at Stig’s villain era. I loved Kerstin’s little sister energy and am still intrigued by the witches… I hope we get more of them!

The end felt like it tied things up in a neat bow until the epilogue, which certainly leaves the door open for more.

Thanks to NetGalley & Avon and Harper Voyager | Avon for access to the ARC!

This story already had a solid foundation to build upon, so I felt like we jumped right in. The writing is descriptive and easy to follow. I liked the various characters, and I especially want more of Vetr and Kerstin!

Tamsyn isn't my favorite heroine. Although she's 22 and has been through some ordeals, she's not very mature. That's not really a problem - in fact it's probably quite realistic - I just found myself frustrated with many of her decisions.

The story is broken up in to parts and then chapters. I found the first 3 parts a little too slow and the last few too fast. Things were a bit TOO convenient and tidied up a little too neatly.
Still the story is interesting enough that I would want to continue if the author releases more books set in this world.

This was a fantastic transitional book in the series. There is more character building too which is my personal favorite! The plot twist will hurt but I just know there is going to be so many more options for this story with that amazing twist!!

I was really confused for the first part of this book, then really happy, then really confused again at the end. I liked the bond and deep connection between the two remained strong throughout, I was just confused about why they needed to be parted for so much of the book. I hated that Stig was back and abusive again. I felt like Fell’s brother trying to take her was a bit ick also. I do love these two as a romantic pairing though, and their heat was still 10/10!!

I was eagerly awaiting this second installment by Sophie Jordan. Tamsyn and Fell are made for each other and book one left them on a total cliffhanger. I read this sequel in less than 24 hours because the writing and plot has incredible momentum. The world building can sometimes come apart in a sequel, but not so for Sophie Jordan! The tension and characters were fantastic— I really liked getting to know Kerstin and Vetr and the rest of the pride. I’m so grateful for this ARC and just might go read the connected YA series.

I'm 100% heads over heels for this series. A Fire in the Sky was my favorite romantasy read in 2024, and A Scar in the Bone is a strong sequel. Tamsyn grows so much as a character, and we see familiar faces from the first book.

My only issue is the chapter names...90% of the book is from Tamsyn's POV and we don't really need it reiterated every time. In fact, it spoils the HEA reunion because it spoils the fate of a character. As someone who really loved that shocking twist at the end of the first book, I didn't like having an idea of what was going to happen, and I almost jumped straight to chapter 26 just so I could know.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I can't wait to talk up the sequel.
