Thank you NetGalley and Apollo/Head of Zeus for being able to read this extract of Boudicca’s Daughter!

From this extract alone I’ve given it three stars as I had trouble getting into the language, was bothered by some commas and word choices etc. But with that said I felt thoroughly hooked by the end of the eight pages and I’d love to read the whole book when published. I haven’t read anything by Elodie Harper before so I’m really glad I got this opportunity to try their writing out.

As a fan of the Wolf Den trilogy I was hugely excited to read this extract- and it didn’t disappoint.
Harper has a way with women from history - they breathe fire and bleed hope. I can’t wait to read the full version.

As a lover of British history, I was immediately drawn to this book. This eight-page extract was incredibly engaging, with vivid descriptions of camp life and battle that instantly immersed me in the story. The dynamic between the sisters, along with the underlying tension, left me eager to learn more about their journey. The writing flows effortlessly, balancing detail with an engaging pace. I can’t wait to pick up the full book in August!

This excerpt has me even more excited for it's release this summer. I know very little about Boudicca, and what I do know is only because of her proximity to Rome. The excerpt does an excellent job with describing what being among Boudicca's followers may have been like: dangerous, dirty, and tiring. I can't wait to read more!

Eight pages and I’m hooked! How does that happen? Roll on august - I need this book 📖 who would have thought that you could be drawn into a book with a short extract! I want to know more. I want to read more…

Thank you NetGalley for the chance of reading this extract.

I would have preferred to read the beginning of the book, as many things are not explained, however it gives enough information so I want to read more.

I live in the UK and I’m very interested in the history of the country and the many battles that have forged a very eclectic and misunderstood society. I will be reading the book once is published - or hopefully the whole ARC if it becomes available.

I would have preferred to have had the first 8 pages rather than getting dropped somewhere in the middle of the story. But what I have read is really good, and I want to know how the story will be resolved. I can't wait for release day!

For an extract, such a good sample. I was instantly intrigued and wanted more!
This sample has promoted me to look into Boudicca and her daughters, and learn about their history.

Elodie Harper proves once again why she’s one of the most compelling voices in historical fiction. In just a few pages, Boudicca’s Daughter sets the stage for a story of power, survival, and sisterhood. Through the perspectives of Bellenia and Solina, we are plunged into the hardship of rebellion—cold, hunger, fear—yet Harper’s prose shimmers with vitality, making the past feel immediate and visceral.

The tension is palpable, the sense of place deeply immersive, and even in this brief glimpse, the character work is exceptional. If this extract is any indication, the full novel will be a triumph. August can’t come soon enough!

I really enjoyed Elodie Harper's writing style in this eight page extract of Boudicca's daughter as I thought she had the perfect balance of action as well as description. This meant the setting and atmosphere felt extremely vivid without slowing the pace of the extract down. Even in such a short sample of the book, I felt I got a good sense of the characters and they were interesting and developed.

I found it slightly strange that the extract we got was chapter 13 so you are really thrown into the action with very little understanding of the backstory. Additionally I found it hard to assign a star rating to such a short extract and wish we had had even just one more chapter to get a better feel for the author's writing style and the story being told.

Overall, I enjoyed this extract however I wish it was slightly longer!

This excerpt has only increased the eagerness and great anticipation I have felt since Boudicca's Daughter was first announced. It has already established a key cast of characters that clearly have a complex family dynamic, existing at the time of one of the most iconic rebellions in history. The landscape is already woven into the story like a mythological and mystical character and tension was systematically building through this entire excerpt. The writing is classic to Elodie Harpers style, descriptive and almost poetic in delivery, as someone who thoroughly enjoyed The Wolf Den Trilogy, I can already tell that Boudicca's Daughter will elicit the same emotional reaction from me.

A juicy short extract that gives the reader just enough action, drama, and emotion to want to read more.

If that’s just an extract then I definitely need to read the rest of the book! Gimme gimme gimme!!! I need the rest of this book as soon as physically possible!

Obviously this is just the first few pages of Elodie Harper’s latest but it is clearly going to be fantastic. Her research is, as before, careful and precise resulting in a vivid creation of a time period long gone. I loved all three of her last trilogy and can’t wait for this one to come out.

Elodie Harper's writing transports you instantly, and brings history to life.

I was gripped by the Wolf Den trilogy and this extract promises the same, with visceral details of life in Roman Britain and characters with worrying fates. I'm looking forward to reading the rest!

I thought this extract would satiate my need for more Elodie Harper content until I receive the hardback of Boudicca's Daughter this summer, however I am now more impatient than ever to get my hands on this book! It promises to be another gripping, atmospheric and unmissable read. The gorgeous writing style of the Wolf Den trilogy partnered with the legend of Boudicca = my idea of heaven. I cannot wait.
