This book offers a delightfully fun and imaginative story that cleverly echoes the concept of *Groundhog Day*, but with a fresh twist. Instead of reliving the same day repeatedly, Lena wakes each morning in a new place with a different husband—always someone from her past. This inventive premise keeps the reader engaged as Lena navigates these shifting realities. Through her experiences, she embarks on a compelling journey of self-discovery, learning not only what she truly desires in life but also what she must avoid. The story’s blend of humor, emotional insight, and intriguing plot makes it a captivating read that will resonate with anyone who has ever questioned their choices or longed for clarity. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy thoughtful, character-driven stories with a unique narrative structure.

Long story short, I loved it.

When a Sarah Jio novel is released, I read it. This was my 12th Jio book & I was thrilled when I was able to obtain it early from NetGalley. The story was a little in & out of time zones — not backwards into the past, but concurrent, parallel time zones.. What would life have been like if ? Thank you to Net Galley, Harper Publishing & Ms Jio for this early release read opportunity.

I have come to realize that I enjoy magical realism in the stories that I read and this was no different. Lena thinks she knows what she wants out of her life but when she finds herself stuck in a time loop with a new partner and life each morning, she begins to question everything. This book is much more women’s fiction than it is a romance as Lena really finds herself on this journey through possible “insignificant others.” The bad were bad and the good were so good. With lots of surprises along the way, it made for an interesting read as we see who she is going to wake up to next.

The loop did get a little draining towards to end and I wasn’t happy with the way it ended but overall it was a nice read.

I liked the narrator and thought she did really well with the voicing of male characters. There were a lot to do, some with accents and some not, and she did a great job with all of them.

This is perfect for fans of Sophie Cousens’ The Good Part and it also has vibes from Leap Year.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted audiobook. The thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

Love. Love. Love! This book was amazing. I love the whole idea of this book, like the ghosts of Christmas past, but make it romance. The main character was super relatable and the husbands were all over the place, in a good way. I HIGHLY suggest you read this book immediately if you’re looking for a cozy, uplifting read.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperAudio for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really interesting and enjoyable listen/read. I normally don’t go in for magical realism, time travel or similar genres and yet the description sounded so interesting I decided to dive in. When Lena thinks she is getting engaged and instead she is rocked to her core she heads home to reevaluate her life. She is both physically and emotionally exhausted and falls into a deep sleep. From then on it’s a wild ride as she experiences many “what if” with all of the men she previously dated. Clever and well written. It leads up to a lovely ending.
Upped to 4 from what would have been a 3.5 rating if half stars were available.

I greatly enjoyed this story. Sarah Jio's books never let me down. I appreciated the many different paths that Lena's life could have taken and the exploration of each of those paths, what she wanted from them and didn't want from them. This greatly contributed to the characters growth as she knows far more about who she is, what she wants, and what matters in life to her at the end of the book than in the beginning. I also loved seeing how her relationships with friends and family change in each of the "chapters" her life could have taken and how she feels about those. The story explores the "what if" questions of life. I loved the use of magical realism as a catalyst for how this story played out and the second chance trope. The narrator made the story easy to listen to, I was hooked from the beginning until the end. I will be purchasing a physical copy of this book for my collection. It was such an enjoyable read.

I love Sarah Jio books! A fresh premise that will warm your heart and maybe even make you stop and smell the roses! I wish it was longer and continued the story!!

Definitely preorder this one. LOVED THE AUDIO! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I liked the book, as it shows Lena, that while the guys she ends up with day after day were not perfect for her, her idea of a life checklist and choices were also not perfect and that she's terribly flawed.

Every night, she learns something new about herself, and most nights, these show her as a real prig. I did like the ending, though. It wrapped up well.

The audiobook was well narrated, and the emotions and characters were well done.

This book has been done before so it really needed something unique to make it worth it, but it wasn’t there. This book just had too many days so everything got mixed up in the end. First, the men weren’t in order so that didn’t help. Then, there were so many men that the man she did end up with was just lost in the sea of men. If there were only like 4 men totally this could’ve been good. After the 4th day the lessons got lost.

It is a cute story and a fun read.

It was actually pretty cute with a good message. Frankie was a good friend. It started to get it but repetitive towards the end, but still it was a quick and enjoyable listen. The narrator was quite good. 3.5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc and alc!!

This was a really creative and fun romance novel!
Sarah Jio knows how to keep a reader entertained. I finished this book in under a day. I loved all the different husbands, but I don't think I had a favorite. If anything, this book teaches you to live life to the fullest and cherish every moment. Additionally, if you like audiobooks, the audiobook version of this book is narrated by Brittany Pressley and I love her work, so I was excited to be approved for the audiobook as well!!!
Overall, I look forward to seeing what Sarah Jio comes up with next!!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Audio & Sarah Jio for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

If wish you could combine The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, plus The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and add in the magical realism and romance of the Ghosted series by Sarah Ready- you'll get exactly what you've been looking for in Insignificant Others.

I loved how this book told the story, 24 hours at a time, of what her life would look like if she pursued the connection with various people of her past. Some she knew for years, some she met in passing. Everything varied from where she lived, to her career, to her relationships with strong side characters. It made for such an entertaining journey!

Per usual, Brittany Pressley was a huge success on the narration. She did the accents perfectly as our main character's husbands were extremely international.

Lena, heartbroken after a breakup she believed would lead to a proposal, returns to her aunt's house to heal. As she drifts off to sleep in the guest house, she is unprepared for the unexpected journey that awaits her. Each time she sleeps, Lena finds herself in a different life, revisiting past relationships and missed opportunities to discover if she overlooked what was truly meant for her.

Through these 24-hour experiences, she encounters love, betrayal, and pain, embarking on both physical and mental journeys. She learns the true essence of love, moving beyond mere routine to truly understand her feelings.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. The concept seemed entertaining, so I decided to read it, but I didn't expect it to resonate with me so deeply and reflect my own life experiences. It made me reflect on what might have been and discover love and solace in overlooked places. Finding a happy ending in such an unexpected way was truly heartwarming. Lena's journey touched me, and I appreciated how fate helped her recognize what had always been right in front of her.

Thank you to William Morrow, Netgalley, and Sarah Jio for providing an early copy.

This was a really intriguing plot and would be perfect for a book club. That said, there were a few too many alternative realities and it felt repetitive. I just wanted to get to the last one by the end to see how it all worked out. Some realities were definitely more interesting than others and I wish the author focused on maybe 4-5 alternatives and really fleshed them out instead of having so many.

This didn’t do it for me. I feel like it should be marketed as chick lit instead of romance. The FMC was unlikeable immediately and didn’t ever really grow in any way.

Lane is a workaholic planner, on the night her boyfriend breaks up with her she goes to see her aunt in Seattle, how ever she continues to wake up in a life with a different ex to see the what ifs. It was cute and light and heavy with life. When she realized life can’t be planned you just have to live Really enjoyed!

2.5/5

This has such a great premise! But the execution fell flat, and it created a concerning implication that these other versions of Lena wake up back in their lives and they have to deal of the fact their lives are changed by what Lena did that day. Ranging from ruining businesses to marriages to families. The matter of the fact is that Lena is only living one day in their lives and does not have the context for how things ended up the way that they did. Not only that, but she is also giving the people in that Lena's life hope that maybe they shouldn't have. Lena is also so judgemental of her other lives, and not in a fun way or an introspective way. Just annoyingly whiny and self-righteous when she really doesn't have a leg to stand on when she is a workaholic, emotionally unattached to all her previous significant others, and almost had a thing with the husband of her best friend. Did I mention she also outright refuses to date men with cats? I find that to be the biggest red flag.

Lena's other lives were also all over the place career-wise and geographically. It was hard to understand who she is when she can literally be anything, and clearly doesn't know who she is. This had so much potential but it was bogged down by trying to have Lena have all these revelations when really she just needed one.

I also find it concerning that the men from other countries are a living cliche of their culture. The Frenchman? He has to have a long standing and publicly known affair. Because of course he does, and his wife also has to have affairs because what? That's just French culture? The Irishman has to be from a small town and inherit a pub. Because of course he does, he's Irish and that is what they do other than rainbows, luck, and horseshoes.

The one great thing about this book that lived up to its potential was the narrator, Brittany Pressley, who did a phenomenal job.

4.5 Stars – A Magical Ride

I loved this magical realism book with a touch of romance. Each day Lena woke up in a new life was a fun, surprising ride that kept me turning pages. The premise—like Emily in Paris meets Groundhog Day—was whimsical, heartfelt, and full of “what if” charm.

The writing transported me to gorgeous settings, and Lena’s journey of self-discovery felt both relatable and inspiring. I do wish there had been 2–3 fewer “husbands,” as some felt like filler and didn’t add much to her growth.

Still, this was such an enjoyable read, and I’m excited to see what this author does next!

Thank you NetGalley & HarperAudio Adult for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
