What a twisty thriller!
Our main character Eden and her mom have been ostracized because her dad scammed a lot of local families and disappeared. Said he had to start over somewhere new. Desperate for some money, Eden goes with some classmates to a haunted abandoned beach resort to help someone film a documentary. But he ends up dead, just like 2 other students in the past few years. Then another student ends up dead. Eden has to team up with her ex-friends to figure out what is really going on.
It was easy to root for Eden. Everyone left her due to something out of her control and that sucked. I wanted her to become friends with these people again, but at the same time, she had been so hurt by them and it was difficult for her to let them back in. Caleb had been one of her best friends, but you could tell that there had been something wrong on both ends of their friendship. It wasn't just him leaving her because of what her dad did (cue the miscommunication trope). Victoria was a typical mean girl, but I think she came around. Eden did have one good friend, May, but she wasn't in the book much. She seemed like a really good friend though.
The plot was really engaging. We are lead to believe that this abandoned resort is haunted by some sort of hooded figure - some sort of ghost or demon or something. It really seems like a possibility. Or it could be one of the friends or anyone who lives in town. I like when something really feels like it could be a human being or some supernatural creature. We learn interesting tidbits along the way and keep unraveling stories and histories. I was never bored and really wanted to know how it was going to end. The ending was very fast paced and action packed. The who/why made sense and wasn't just pulled from thin air. We do get a little bit of after the action has died down and then the epilogue puts a nice bow on something that was left open ended in previous chapters.
The audiobook narrator was great. She pulled me into the story and made things seem suspenseful. The only thing was that when she was doing the male voices, their dialogue sometimes fell a little flat, but other than that I loved her narration.

Solid Young Adult Suspense.
Property in ruins and an old brutal murder has set the stage for ghost stories in this small town. Of course, in a small town, there is not much for teens to do, so why not enter old private property, drink, and stir up trouble, or possibly ghosts.
As time goes on, it's up to a few brave, avenging kids to get down to bottom of the story and find out why their friends have been killed and why they are the next targets.
Just enough creepiness, gore and suspense to keep you turning the page without having to sleep with the lights on.

We Were Warned is a twisty YA thriller that readers will devour! The characters are likeable but flawed and they will hook readers into the story. Hand this to fans of Natasha Preston and Natalie D. Richards. A must have for YA collections!

I always love a good YA mystery/thriller novel, and this one was no different!
To begin with, the audiobook was narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya, and she did an excellent job, 10/10.
This is a fast-paced, creepy, atmospheric story set in a seaside town, with a dash of the supernatural to keep you on your toes. It has complicated family stories and dynamics, a "haunted house", and almost too many murders (and near-deaths) to count.
As always, I enjoyed the drama and high tensions that YA always has - because you can't just be solving a mystery, you also have to be resoling inter-personal conflicts the whole way through (obviously)! The relationship between Eden and Caleb did take up a bit more of the story that I thought it would, but I wasn't disappointed by that. I was mostly just annoyed by Eden's constant lack of trust in absolutely everyone, especially Caleb, even after he proved himself trustworthy to her multiple times.
As for the mystery, I was kept guessing the whole way through. The reveal and murderer's monologue were a touch overdramatic, but overall pretty shocking. There are some heartbreaking reveals and complicated emotions throughout, and the epilogue shocked me!
For any fans of YA mystery, definitely would reccomend!

This was my first read by author Chelsea Ichaso, and being a YA book, outside my usual genre. I really enjoyed the dimensions in this story, past/present, enemies to crush, finding the truth, etc. The story definitely had multiple aspects that would translate well on the big screen! The pacing was on point and with enough suspense to keep the reader wanting more. I highly recommend this to those that enjoy YA without any restrictions. I also enjoyed the narrator for the audiobook! Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire for this arc!!

This book had me hooked from the moment I read the first chapter! The eerie history behind the abandoned Fairport Villa is just too tempting to resist! (For both me as the reader and all the teens in the book! ;)
Eden Stafford isn’t quite like all the other seniors getting through their last year of high school… After her dad was caught in the middle of a crime, he up and abandoned his family, turning Eden (and her mom) into the prime target for bullying and being ostracized by the town. Determined to make the most of her last year, (and also make some money) Eden agrees to attend a late night senior party at the Fairport ruins to help a classmate capture footage for his big documentary. But when the night ends with a student dead, what started as a typical school year quickly morphs into a fight for survival.
With a mysterious stranger on their tail, Eden and her unexpected allies must unravel the truth behind the curse! With creepy consequences, unforeseen connections, and an ending that will leave you reeling! This book is one I would recommend for everyone, not just the young adults!
**Contains brief mentions of teenage drinking, murder, and some gore. But I just have to add how much I love that Chelsea can write an intense emotion filled novel without all the swearing and foul language often found in other books!
Thank you so much to Chelsea Ichaso, Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the complimentary copy of this book! All opinions are my own!

This wasn’t a bad book. I didn’t love it but I have to keep in mind it was a YA book. I liked the setting of it. The characters were ok. Decently written and easy to listen to. Good narration. Not a bad book but not a favorite either.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

I really did enjoy the setting of the ruins of Fairport Village, and the mystery wasn't bad at all. However, I didn't like any of the characters, and the romance was painful. I will say I either really love YA books or really don't, and this was the latter. The audiobook narrator did a good job and helped me get to the end!
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for the audiobook ARC!

I loved the interesting storyline of this book and there were so many thrilling moments. I enjoyed how you kept suspecting everyone around the main character of being the bad guy. The narration was great too. 😊

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 Stars (Good)
Setting: Fairport Village ruins
Genre: YA Psychological Thriller
Everyone knows the legend of Fairport Village: twenty-five years ago, a shocking murder closed the place down. This year, the ruins will be bulldozed at last. But tonight, it's not too late to die.
All her life, Eden Stafford has heard the lore about the abandoned beach resort at the edge of town: ever since the notorious murder there, anyone who sets foot on the property is cursed to die, It's more than just a story: over the years, two high school students who dared to explore the ruins of Fairport Village were killed there.
Eden is no stranger to notoriety, having endured a family scandal that's made her a target at school. Though the death is ruled an accident, Eden knows she saw something suspicious at the ruins―and Caleb and her other longtime tormentors did too. The story begins in a small town haunted by a murder from twenty years ago, along with a curse that won’t let go—this YA mystery grabbed my attention right away! When a group of teens starts investigating the death of a classmate, they soon realize the dark truths surrounding the crime are far more dangerous than they could have imagined.
The plot is fast-paced, keeping me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn’t put it down, and just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist hit me out of nowhere! YA thrillers always pull me in, and this one was no exception. With plenty of secrets, tension, and even a touch of romance, this book is everything I love in a suspenseful read.
The narration was top-notch! Jennifer Jill Araya did an amazing job bringing the story’s suspense and tension to life. She perfectly captured the eerie mood of the setting and conveyed the emotions of the characters with such authenticity. From Eden’s inner struggles to the haunting atmosphere, Jennifer’s voice made everything even more intense and immersive. With her ability to switch between different voices—male and female, young and old—each one felt distinct and real, making the story come alive.
If you’re into fast-paced YA mysteries with a touch of the supernatural, this is a must-read (and must-listen)! It’s a gripping page-turner that will keep you hooked until the very last twist. I highly recommend We Were Warned to anyone who enjoys creepy small towns, shady characters, a suspenseful vibe, and a group of teens working together to unravel a town’s dark secrets.

I loved this story. Caught my interest from the very beginning. The narrator did an amazing job. She voiced a teenager beautifully. There was so many twist and turns i had theories throughout the entire thing constantly changing from a rational explanation to the haunting is real. The epilogue was my absolute favorite part. It was the cherry on top of the already perfect sundae! I will recommend this to anyone thats wants to read a fun, fast paced thriller.

I think that one thing an author needs to find is a balance between too many characters and not enough. This book definitely suffers from too many. From the get go I was confused. There were no outstanding characteristics that distinguished any of the characters. What's more is that I couldn't stand the narrator. I really wanted to like this book, but it was definitely not for me.

I had high hopes for this book but right around chapter 18 it lost me. My interest in it went down really quick and just felt like it shifted the vibe for me.

4.5 Stars – A Gripping YA Thriller That Kept Me Hooked
This book is an excellent YA thriller that really kept me engaged from start to finish. The mystery surrounding Fairport Village is eerie and compelling, and I loved how the story unfolded with tension and suspense. Eden is a strong, relatable protagonist, and her complicated history with Caleb and his friends adds an extra layer of drama to an already intense plot. The pacing was great, with just enough twists to keep me guessing, and the ending was especially satisfying. If you love dark, atmospheric thrillers with high stakes and great character dynamics, this one is definitely worth the read!
Thank you, NetGalley and Tantor Audio, for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley & Tanner Audio for this Audio Arc!
I don’t read many YA thrillers but I was pleasantly surprised by this one! I never quite had a pick on the whole who did it twist but I had so many theories!
This story is about a small town with some big secrets and a cursed haunted village, what could possibly go wrong?!?!
Short answer… everything!
Eden is our FMC and she is entering her senior year of high school. She finds herself at a pre school traditional party with a group of bullies that have made it their mission to make her miserable, but when a boy ends up dead, Eden is forced to work with the people she despises most! You see there is this curse and it’s known that if you see the woman in black then you’re next and Eden isn’t sure about a lot but she is sure she saw someone… or something!
Now it’s race to see if they can figure out the clues and find out who is behind all of the murders or end up another victim of the ruins!!!!
This one was full of fun twists and turns and I really enjoyed it!!

This book really kept me guessing until the end. I didn't see that ending coming.
The author weaves a complex story, where every person could be guilty. There are a lot of characters to get to know. New people were constantly popping up! The author did a great job crafting a creepy atmosphere. I enjoy thrillers that involve old mansions on cliff-sides!
I found Eden to be a likable character. I think young readers will find her relatable. Her budding romance with Caleb was woven throughout the story. Some of Caleb’s dialogue was a bit stilted, but he was still an enjoyable character.
If you are looking for a compulsive YA thriller with a touch of romance, then I recommend picking this book up! The audiobook is a great option too! The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life!

Eden Stafford, must join together with her once friends and now sworn enemies to figure out what happened to her former classmates and to save their own lives from the the curse of Fairport Village.
I love reading YA thrillers because they always get right into the action without any slow buildup and this book was no different.
The dynamic between these four was definitely tumultuous but as things got more dire you could see the walls coming down for Eden especially where her feeling for Caleb were concerned. I liked the interactions between the two. I also enjoyed the premise of the story and the supernatural elements. Always teetering between whether or not the murders we’re being caused by supernatural elements or by and actual person.
The narrator does a great job with the audiobook. Bringing Eden and the other characters to life and really making you feel their emotions and tension throughout.

This book gets off to a rocky start, but hang in there! Because of the complicated backstory of this novel, the story is murky at first, and it takes a bit to really get all of the pieces laid out before we start to understand the depth of the tales and which ones are invented and which ones are true. Suspicions about, and there are plenty of red herrings.
In the beginning we're thrown right in to the middle of a party at the ruins of Fairport Village, a resort with a tragic backstory. Is Fairport Village haunted? Is something sinister lurking in the shadows to frighten people away or to save them from their own tragic fate? To start, the narrative is slow, but it picks up and really flies after about half of the book, and ends with a shocking, albeit drawn-out, conclusion.
Please read the trigger warnings if sensitive to topics, including, but not limited to, death, grief, and suicide.
