Meet Me at Midnight by Max Monroe is a fun and lighthearted, in love with my best friends’ brother, secret identity, workplace romance.

Juniper has been in love with her best friend's brother for more than 10 years, but Beau has always been in a relationship and looked at June as another little sister. June is afraid to make her feeling known for fear of losing the only people who have ever felt like family to her. Taking a risk, she decides to message Beau anonymously through the Midnight app, thus beginning their late-night chats and eventual relationship. There were a lot of parts of this book I really enjoyed! It had great humor (the first chapter 😹 had me stifling my giggles while listening at work), character development for June and Avery, and overall flow of the story. I really wanted there to be more relationship development with June and Beau, it just felt like they went from friends to secret lovers to boom, in love.

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, and the author for this audio-ARC.

First, I’d like to give the biggest thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of Meet Me at Midnight. This might genuinely be my new favorite book! I read this in less than 24 hours. I was hooked from the very first sentence! I didn’t think I would love the best friend’s brother trope but man was I wrong. Beau and Juniper’s relationship was pure perfection. I also love a good epilogue and this one had me smiling and kicking my feet giggling. All the heart eyes and stars for this book!!

Meet Me at Midnight plays with some classic romance tropes—brother’s best friend, a secret messaging app, and a third-act breakup. While the premise is fun, the execution left me frustrated at times, especially with how long it took the characters to arrive at the obvious solution to their mystery.
The secret messaging app setup had potential, but the way it played out felt uneven. The male lead went along with the messages, only to later act as if his trust had been deeply violated—before quickly deciding it was fine after all. His emotions toward Juniper felt inconsistent; he was indifferent for years, suddenly became obsessed once he knew it was her, but even then, we didn’t see much depth to his feelings. The lack of deep conversations made it hard to fully buy into their love story. Meanwhile, Juniper had been in love with him since her teenage years, making the dynamic feel a little one-sided.
Once the truth came out, things escalated quickly—almost too quickly. Their relationship seemed more about physical attraction than emotional connection, though that might just be the frat-boy energy of the narrator. Juniper, at least, had more dimension, but she was positioned as the “not like other rich girls” character, which was emphasized by the stark contrast to her best friend, Avery, who spent all her time primping instead of working. Avery, in general, felt over-the-top.
That said, I was hooked—especially from the halfway point on. The story had enough drama and tension to keep me invested, even if it wasn’t always for the right reasons. Don’t expect a deeply emotional love story, but you’ll have an enjoyable time reading.

Meet me at Midnight is a fun, fast paced will they or won’t they romance with long time crush and forbidden romance tropes. There are a few spicy scenes but tastefully done and nothing over the top. The main characters are believable and likable.

This is a cute romance with in-love-with-best-friend's-brother, everything-is-funner-when-you're-rich, and secret-identity tropes.

The characters were all cute, although not exactly relatable due to their wealth (which is probably nice escapism for some.) I would say this is a pretty low-spice book, although not closed door, that skips over more graphic elements and I know there are readers who prefer that.

I had a few issues with the audio. I suspect the audio intro was recorded for a different book because it was for something comedic, and this book wasn't funny. It was cute, but not funny. Which is fine, unless you're told not to listen to this around anyone because you'll be laughing too loud. The female narrator was ok, but I didn't like the male narrator. It sounded like he was growling in a can for half the book and the interspersing of the male and female narrators during dialog when they weren't doing character voices was a bit weird. I think it would've flowed better with the narrators reading the chapters straight through based on which character's perspective it was.

I am giving the book 4 stars, but I would give just the audio 2 stars.

This was such a fun book! Loved the narration and how well it helped connect me to the characters.

I loved the secretive aspect of their relationship, how forbidden it felt without it being too icky or taboo. The use of the app was genius! I really loved how that was tied in.

My only complaint was with how many "parts" there were. At least in the audiobook, it really took me out of the story every time there was another "part" after just a couple chapters. I think it was unnecessary although I see that it was dividing the POVs.

Over all really enjoyed Juniper and Beaus story and am so excited for Avery and Henrys!

Max Monroe delivers a delightful and swoon-worthy romance with Meet Me at Midnight, a novel brimming with humor, charm, and heartwarming moments. With a refreshing take on modern love, this story captivates from the very first page, proving that sometimes the most unexpected connections can lead to the most unforgettable romances.

One of the highlights of this book is its unique premise—two characters forming a connection through a dating app, a contemporary twist that adds an extra layer of relatability. It’s refreshing to see a storyline where the heroine takes charge rather than waiting for the guy to make the first move, breaking away from traditional romance tropes. The witty banter, flirty exchanges, and genuine chemistry between the protagonists make their relationship feel authentic and deeply engaging.

Max Monroe’s signature humor shines throughout, blending perfectly with the swoon-worthy romance. The dialogue is sharp and laugh-out-loud funny, making it impossible not to be completely charmed by the characters. The pacing is spot-on, balancing the lighthearted moments with deeper emotional beats that give the story depth.

Overall, Meet Me at Midnight is a feel-good romance that leaves readers grinning and believing in the magic of love. With its perfect mix of humor, heart, and irresistible chemistry, this book is a must-read for fans of romantic comedies. Max Monroe has certainly earned a new fan, and I can’t wait to dive into more of their work.

4.5 ⭐ 3 🌶️ 5 🎧

I swear I'll never get enough of Max and Monroe. They never fail to make me laugh out loud and swoon so big. Beau and June were no different, I adored them to pieces and loved watching them fall in love.

Midnight was such a cool idea and a great catalyst for these two. While I did feel their Midnight relationship went from zero to sixty without much rhyme or reason, I still loved the whole premise and their back and forth. Secret penpals has always been one of my favorite tropes, it's just so fun.

While I wanted to throttle a certain someone from the third act and felt it was a touch unnecessary, I absolutely loved the profession of love that came from it. Then the epilogue, ohmygosh so dang sweet. And a look at book two that has me wondering why it can't be September, even though we've barely finished October... Bring on Avery and Henry, I can't wait.

I really loved the audio. CJ Bloom is one of my favorites and together with Alexander Cendese, these two brought this story to life so perfectly.

POV ~ dual 1st
Featuring ~ 12 parts, secret crush, best friend's brother, sister's best friend, coworkers, neighbors to lovers, secret romance, some steamage

Juniper (23) & Beau (28) have known each other for ages, and she's had a secret crush on him for just as long. She practically grew up in their house because her parents have no interest in being in her life. Truly heartbreaking, but the found family is so well done that you can't help but be happy she has them to support her.

Avery is the bff and sister and I absolutely could not stand her. I couldn't stand her so much that I will not be reading her book, I just can't. She was so awful and I just can't see myself enjoying it at all, so it's best to just pass. While we're discussing her ~ how did she not know Juniper has been pining over Beau for all these years? Too self absorbed it seems. She has no work ethic and just gives off too much of a spoiled rich bi!ch vibe for me. She spends most of her time clubbing, partying, getting manis/pedis and drinking starby's.

Anyway, June and Beau started texting on an app. The thing is that she knows it's him and he has no clue who he's talking dirty to. I'm not super big on deception like this, but Beau was sweet and I'm so glad he did not have any interest in her back in the day due to their age gap.

Overall, their banter was pretty great and as I said above the support of the found family parents was perfect, therefore I'll round up my rating. This will probably appeal to those in the new adult phase of their life.

Narration notes:
I love love love! when it's duet narration 🥳🙌 I think it really gives it more pizazz!

Best friends Avery Banks and Juniper Perry both grew up never in the lap of luxury with extremely successful and wealthy families. However, June’s parents were divorced, absent and trying to “buying her love”, which led to her becoming like a second daughter to the Banks family. Spending so much time with them led to Juniper having the biggest secret crush on Avery’s older brother Beau. Now that the girls have been hired as interns at Mr. Banks marketing firm June has her work cut out for her, not only is she doing the work of two people on her own, thanks to Avery leaning into the, “my dad won’t fire me” mentality, she also has to work with Beau Banks, who she is still head over heels for.
I listened to the audiobook for Meet Me at Midnight, narrated by C.J. Bloom and Alexander Cendese. They did a duet narration that was phenomenal! In the first chapter I had to pause and check if it was a full cast. Each character had a distinct and recognizable voice. Switching from one character to another was seamless and even the dialogue between male and female characters was produced brilliantly, there was never a lag switching between the narrators. They brought to life all of the banter, longing, and chemistry between Juniper and Beau! C.J. had me laughing out loud at the sarcasm and humor she brought with the subtle changes in tone. This audiobook is one of the best duets I’ve heard, for me its up there with Lights Out and Butcher and Blackbird!

Super cutesy, adorable contemporary romance. It also gets the tear ducts working at a couple points!
Of course we know where the story will end up but getting there is a really fun ride. The only thing I wish had been a little different was a little less fangirling from the FMC over the MMC in the first half, OR more of her working through the feeling of being Starstruck when she finally gets with him. I only say this because it felt a bit inconsistent but not enough to remove a whole star off my rating. So 4.5 stars rounded up from me!

2.5 ⭐

80% horniness,15% plot,5% comedy
This was my first Max Monroe book and let me tell you I'm not excited for more 😐 let's break the book up
The MMC's inner monologue is borderline predator-like. He never thought of the FMC's good characteristics; it's always her body this and her body that. I don't have anything to say about the FMC, but I really hated every moment of them s*xting texting. Like, don't you have a better thing to do or say, for example, getting to know each other? 🤨
The narration is 3 ⭐ it's in Duet I think but nothing special 🤷🏻‍♀️

Another winning Max Monroe book! I really enjoyed the interactions and banter between Juniper and Beau. He'd always been her crush but was a bit off limits as he was her best friend's brother. But her crush still always lurked right there under the surface. Now they are both adults and working for his family's company. When they are trying to land the marketing deal for a new dating app, Beau and Juniper end up talking to one another on it but only she knows it's him. He doesn't know who the mystery woman is on the other side. Will he still feel the same once he knows it's "Juniper June," his little sister's best friend?

These characters were so fun and easy to become attached to. Also, in typical Max Monroe fashion, there were so many one-liners that made me laugh out loud while I was reading. Their books are always the perfect combination of romance and comic relief - - they give rom-com a whole new meaning. But they also throw a little sensitive, emotional in there too. After all, it would be a shame if they didn't give us the full spectrum of emotions, right?

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: I was also fortunate enough to receive an early copy of the audiobook. It was also quite enjoyable and the narration felt on target for the characters. I loved listening to the book as well because the narrator did a great job - - especially with Beau's sister, Avery who is blissfully unaware of just how entitled and pampered she is. So much so that you can't help but chuckle at some of the things she says. 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley for early copies of both the audiobook and ebook.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Meet me at midnight is a sweet and spicy best friend’s brother romance. Midnight is a new dating app that allow anonymity which Juniper uses to talk to her childhood crush Beau.

The duo narration made this story even better with fun banter and good chemistry!

This unique story was a quick read with great ending! I recommend this story and audiobook to anyone looking for a sweet romcom!

This was such a fun book and my first by Max Monroe.

The whole secret identity of texting your crush of ten years? And that crush just happens to be your best friend’s older brother and your coworker? Say less—I’m obsessed. The banter was great as well! The author's note promised that the book would have the reader giggling and swooning, and they definitely held up to that promise! The audio made this book even better! CJ Bloom and Alexander Cendese did an amazing job narrating!

Meet Me at Midnight is a fun and flirty romance with just the right mix of humor and heart. Juniper has secretly crushed on her best friend’s older brother, Beau, for years. When they start chatting anonymously through a workplace campaign, their connection grows in unexpected ways. The tension of their hidden identities and forbidden romance kept me hooked!
I loved the witty banter and sizzling chemistry between June and Beau. Their midnight conversations were both sweet and steamy, making me root for them the whole way through. Beau’s relationship with his mom was a nice touch, showing his softer side, while June’s struggles with balancing work and love felt relatable.
The slow burn made the payoff even better, and the mix of tropes—best friend’s brother, secret identity, office romance—worked perfectly. If you love lighthearted, romantic reads with humor and heart, this audiobook is a must-listen!
Very grateful to @dreamscapemedia for my alc , opinions are my own

I was really excited about this book based on the description. Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book at 15% into listening. The main characters were not at all relatable (trust fund children who were working at their parents' companies). The main romance plot had not even started at this point, but the characters were so unlikeable, I had to stop listening.

Really enjoyable listen. The narrators did a great job with the voices and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I haven’t read or listened to Max Monroe stories before, but will soon be remedying that. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me access to an early copy of this audio book.
