Harry Kennedy fell from the top floor of building .. but he’d had already been stabbed. I became a DCI along with my colleague Constable Zwale and had to choose how I would go about my investigation, interviewing witnesses, decoding secret messages and more. I got to make the decision, and was unsuccessful in solving the case - a terrible feeling as I am an avid reader of mystery fiction.

Can You Solve the Murder? is a choose your own adventure type book but a bit more involved as you have to take down notes as you read. I found it a quick and fun read; and I solved the murder.

This was a fun read, the mystery was interesting though not particularly unexpected. It was quite cumbersome to have to track points and what I knew, I wasn’t expecting to have to do that. But overall a fun choose your own adventure book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing an advanced copy of this book.

End Score : ☞DETECTIVE INSPECTOR☜
(close to the top tier, but not enough alas. Note, this was after I failed the 1st run).

When I read that the dedication for this book was "For Steve and Ian" I immediately knew who they were and that I was in the presence of a person who was kin in also enjoying CYOA/FF books in their childhood.

When rating the book, I am taking both the gimmick and the story itself into consideration (but I will be honest, I was weighted the gimmick-aspect a bit more, being very appreciative of what the author had constructed here). The story itself is okay, but had to be written in such a way to allow the PICK YOUR PATH aspect to seem flawless, regardless of early or later choices.

One message to the author, you are a true scam*p for* ( the *negative* thing you did at the beginning. ;)

A cruel *p*ill *for* it.
