Well... that was something I read... Right off the bat, the fact that the police goes in full searching/investigation mode when the woman has been missing for less 2 hours is unbelievable. If there had been some other clues that she was missing (like a room where a fight seems to have happened, a pool of blood or something, a suicide letter) other than she did noy pick up her daughter at daycare, maybe I would've bought it, but an adult won't be declared missing after less than 2 hours... I don't think even once did the detective entertain the idea that Bryden might've just up and left. Detectives always bring up that possibility, no matter how many times everyone in the "victim"'s entourage say she'd never do a think like that... Also, I find it very convenient (and by that, I mean overdone) that the CCTV system doesn't work in the garage. It's time for authors to find something else. When I read a Shari Lapina book, I expect a psychological, maybe a domestic thriller. This was a full on mystery/investigation. That was not what I was in the mood for so I was a bit let down. But further than that, there were too many characters that were way too detailed. And I felt like I was reading a first draft, something felt off the entire time and the story was a bit all over the place. On top of that, the ending was a dud, and very rushed and abrupt. I've read many fantastic reviews about this, so maybe it was just not for me. Or maybe if I went in with a different mindset when I was in the mood for a whodunit?
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have read every single Shari lapena book and will continue to read every single Shari lapena book. Are some of them similar and repetitive? Yes, will that stop me from continuing to read every single one? Nope! There’s just a vibe to be had with her books and the covers always draw me in and I will never ever be able to say no 😂😂

My favourite Shari lapena book was last years release, I loved the step out in typical genre with the dead girl POV, But this book comes in at a close second! There’s only so much you can do with a domestic suspence but I do feel like this one pushed out of the box a bit and stepped away from the typical twists and conclusions and I did find myself somewhat attached and invested in this families life wanting to see all their secrets spill in the search for the wife.

The pacing is as always well done and I kept turning pages to see just exactly what was going on. I recommend for anyone who likes a fast paced read with twists and surprises.

I appreciate the gifted copy! Thank you to the author and Penguin Random House Canada for my Shari Lapena fix

Book publishes: July 29th

I really enjoyed this book. The locked room mystery aspect was done really well, and I had a hard time trying to figure out what happened. The final reveal isn’t the most shocking I’ve seen by Shari Lapena, but it’s surprising enough. Looking forward to her next book, they’re always great!

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the advance ebook copy of this novel.

When a beloved wife and mother disappears, a luxurious condo building transforms into a potential crime scene, and the investigation begins: Can the detectives find her before it's too late?

Bryden and Sam have it all: thriving careers, a smart apartment in a luxury condominium, supportive friends and a cherished daughter. The perfect life for the perfect couple.

Then Sam receives a call at his office. Bryden—working from home that day—has failed to collect their daughter from daycare. Arriving home with their little girl, he finds his wife’s car in the underground garage. Upstairs in their apartment her laptop is open on the table, her cell phone nearby, her keys in their usual place in the hall.

Except Bryden is nowhere to be seen. It’s as if she just walked out.

How can she have disappeared from her own home? And did she even leave the building at all?

With every minute that passes—and as questions swirl around their community—Bryden and Sam’s past seems a little less perfect, their condominium less safe, their friends, neighbours and relatives no longer quite so reliable . . .

I am a big fan of Shari Lapena's. Her newest novel, She Didn't See It Coming, definitely did not disappoint! So many twists in the story had me continually changing my mind about who Bryden's killer was. And just when I was convinced I knew who did it, the final twist came. Great storyline. Fast paced book. 4 out of 5 ⭐️

Shari Lapena is an expert when it comes to domestic thrillers. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It starts out as a missing person case but quickly becomes a murder investigation. As the story progresses the list of potential suspects increases as many of the characters have motive for the murder of Bryden Frost. Lapena allows for the reader to quickly jump between characters throughout the read as the plot quickly develops . I caught myself accusing a few of the main characters more than once in the murder of Bryden Frost. The suspense and tensions kept building right up to the very end. I thought the ending was fantastic and a great finish to the story. This book was a fast paced binge-able read if you like suburban dramas and domestic thrillers. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for my honest review.

Embrace the thrill - Lapena knows what she’s doing…and you won’t see it coming!

Lapena always keeps me on the edge of my seat; this time, instead of an adrenaline-fueled read, she gave me the satisfaction of piecing together a complex puzzle and a peek behind the curtain at the rich tapestry and complex emotions of this genre that she knows so well.

With so much unpredictability and uncertainty in the world today, I find myself reaching more for books such as these that not only give me the thrill of a well-crafted mystery and escapism but also a sense of control. I loved piecing together the clues, trying to predict who the murderer was, and hoping to achieve it all before the characters did! Lapena always brings me along for the ride, making me feel more like an active participant in her story than a passive observer.

I’m still not sure about that ending, though….

She Didn't See it Coming is a relentless mix of murder, secrets, lies and twists that will surprise you.

A complex cast of characters: those we love ( well only a few of those), those we love to snarl at and those we have no words for.

Detective Jayne Salter is on a missing persons case which quickly turns out to be a murder.

The suspect list is long .

The secrets are many.

People are not who they seem to be.

Shari Lapena does an amazing job of leading the reader down a twisted path full of red herrings, secrets and lies.

Even when I thought I knew who the murderer was, the roller coaster of a ride continues and the ending was perfection.

I could not put She Didn't See it Coming (neither did I) and read it one sitting . I quickly preordered the book for my daughter.

Thankst to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada (Adult)/Doubleday Canada for a heartpounding read I wont soon forget.

She Didn't See It Coming by Shari Lapena is another fantastically twisty domestic thriller from one of the current queens of the genre.

Bryden fails to pick up her child from daycare one day, which is totally out of character. Her husband Sam reports her missing, but is puzzled by the fact that her car is still in its space at their luxurious condo, and her laptop remains open on her desk after a day of working from home. As the investigation into her disappearance intensifies, police put the couple's marriage, their families, friends and neighbours under the microscope, but seem to have no solid leads as they race against time to find the missing mother before it is too late.

This is a pacey, unpredictable whodunit, though there are suspects and red herrings aplenty, as suspicions shift, so too do alibis, and Ms Lapena masterfully keeps us guessing until the very end.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC.

I’m a little sad to say that it was your typical domestic thriller with a very predictable ending. The storyline has been used time and time again and this book was really no different. It seemed to drag on with no real shocking twists or turns. I didn’t enjoy the way it was written and just felt there were too many characters. I feel it could have gone many different routes that would have made it much more enjoyable.

Publishes in July.

I have read all of Shari Lapena's thrillers before this one and they are all a solidly good read. This one is no exception, solid but not quite perfect. The first half went quickly with several great prospects for the main suspect, then started getting a bit repetitive, and finally finished with a plausible yet not very shock ending. Loads of red herrings and twists, would have loved more depth and backstory for all the suspects, but very entertaining nonetheless.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this thriller/mystery.

Bryden fails to pick up her daughter from daycare and so her husband Sam reports her missing. Very quickly this turns into a murder investigation. The detective in charge, Jayne, is a sympathetic and competent character, and looks into suspects as varied as husband Sam, sister Lizzie, friend Paige, a man living on the same floor who has been accused of abduction and rape, and Derek (whose Tesla Bryden had recently rear-ended).

This was an easy and fast-paced read, although the narrative switched through the perspectives of a multitude of the characters, which was confusing at times. Every one had secrets, although Jayne was good at uncovering these. I did feel that the leap Jayne and the media made in relation to the fate of Derek's mother-in-law was a bit of an unlikely stretch... The characterization in general was pretty good and I enjoyed this.

Shari Lapena is the master of domestic thrillers. So many intriguing characters and possibilities and with each page turn, the intrigue deepens. Loved it all, right down to the perfect, unexpected ending.

Another fantastic murder mystery by Shari Lapina! I was hooked by the first chapter and read this in one sitting! So many twists and turns, as the story unfolds around the murder of a 35 year old wife and mother. It seems like the answer is straight-forward, but Lapina, as always, keeps her readers guessing until the end.
