So, this book is out of my usually reading comfort zone, but I’m doing research and this book worked out for that.
This romcom starring a young author and teen TV star is a good amount of cheesy, mixed with a bit of cringe, and pulled together with enough special sauce that makes it different from other books. There were certainly a handful of moments where I remembered why I don’t read this genre very often. I mean, the werewolf thing is a bit annoying but that’s just me. However, I do appreciate the deviations this book takes from typical romcoms of today. The spice was there, but stayed legal (she is 17 to his 18, after all), and I could feel the connection between the two. As far as timeline goes, it does feel a bit fast, but there have been worse and it’s written well enough that you feel like it’s been a lifetime (just like the characters).
I appreciated the more serious topics in the book and how they were handled, but don’t see Jess getting over everything as fast as she did. And while I did see character growth with Jess, I didn’t see as much with Gabe. It could’ve been more interesting to see him change in a more personal way, but I appreciated how he overcame barriers that weighed him down. I don’t now if they changed him as a person so much.
Last note: Coley annoyed me immensely by having everything be on Gabe. She’s the OLDER sister, and yet acts like she’s a few years younger than Gabe. Perhaps if we saw more into her own problems as opposed to hints here and there, I’d feel for her more.
Overall, it was a good read and very helpful research.

Recommend? Sure

I liked the contrast between the two characters. I could really relate to Jess at times with her quiet and homeschooled personality. It was interesting to see how things would play out with Jess and Gabe seeing how different they are from each other. I recommend this book to anyone who likes opposites attract tropes.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a digital copy for review.

Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book. While the premise initially intrigued me, I struggled to connect with the characters and found the pacing slower than expected. I appreciate the opportunity to read an early copy and wish the author the best with its release

A charming and funny romance that feels real and relatable. The characters are well-written and the story is both humorous and heartwarming. The self-discovery and personal growth of the characters resonate throughout the book and depth and relatability.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of The Accidental Boyfriend by Lori Freeland

The Accidental Boyfriend by Lori Freeland had a good start. It just did not captivate me to continue reading to the end. I think I got around halfway through and had to put it down.
While this book was not for me, I am sure someone else would enjoy it!

I loved book and great read, but at some points I did struggle to connect with the characters
Thank you for allowing me to read this

This was cute but I found it difficult to connect to the characters. At times it felt hard go keep reading vut overall it was a good read.

I think that this book okay. There are definite improvements that could have been made, such as Jess and Gabe having a discussion about her age because I believe she is a minor (if I understood that correctly). The plot is a little jumpy and not as smooth as I would like, as is the character development. That being said, it is a fun and easy read that I look for when wanting to read a fiction book.

A wonderful read!
This novel drew me in from the very first page and kept me hooked until the end. The characters were vibrant and relatable, the writing was engaging, and the story had just the right balance of heart and humor. Highly recommend!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is a fun and quick YA romantic read. Whilst the storyline is predictable, it was enjoyable and I still found myself rooting for Jess and Gabe.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to review this novel.

Predictable but still very sweet. I loved the mental health representation and the humour in this. Definitely swoonworthy!

I think this is a fantastic example of a YA romance that has both elements of reality and fantasy. The idea of a teen author and a teen TV show star is the fantasy element, but the hurdles they went through in life, the emotions, and the setting of boundaries felt like a great example of reality. This will be a great addition to my readers advisory list for older teens looking for a romance.

The book was okay, I felt like something was missing, idk what. If you like fake dating trope and frustrating moments, then you should give this book a go 😭😂 I enjoyed the little snippets from jess's diary 😂😂 also, the name Thorne reminds me of Levi Thorne from The Bite by Z.W Taylor :') 💔

Well , I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did .
It’s a silly rom-com and let me tell you , it has be tripping from the beginning.
I love the characters and the chemistry between them .
The plot was predictable but I didn’t mind it .

** Thank you to Lavender Latte Press for giving me an ARC of this book via NetGalley! These thoughts are my own.**
3.5 stars
I enjoyed this book! The relationship was really cute. The plot was pretty predictable, and there was a ton of trauma-dumping from both the characters. There was just so much it felt unrealistic (and it was really stereotypical celebrity trauma stuff). The characters were good and pretty fleshed out, though sometimes they felt one-dimensional with their motivations. I didn't love all the cursing, and the kissing scenes get every-so-slightly graphic (didn't love that either). I was engaged throughout the book, though, and I did have a good time!

The Accidental Boyfriend was a fun fluffy story that scratched that YA romantic itch. I didn't rate it higher since there were not a ton of layers, but for something that is an easy read, I didn't miss them. I give this book 3/5 stars.

What caught my interest was the blurb about being BTTM so I had to request! However after reading, I really didn't get that vibe or maybe I'm missing something?
I did think this was a cute and cozy YA romance. Fake dating is also one of my favorite tropes ❤️

When a young author meets a werewolf heartthrob by accident at an office convention. You never know how things will turn in the end.. add to this family drama on both sides of the relationship and it’s hard to tell if a relationship will blossom or the two will run away from each other forever.

The Accidental Boyfriend is a cozy ya romance that reminds me of Better Than the Movies. We follow Jess, an aspiring author and Gabe a movie star where they met by accident in a convention.
I love the movie references here in this book and the writing’s pretty easy to read and understand, perfect for teens who are looking for a more mature books.
The premise of the story is also pretty interesting, I especially love how the author manage to balance humor and vulnerability in both the characters.

Young adult is one of my favorite genres and I've read a lot of them in my lifetime but I can tell you that this did not feel like one. The characters were written like they were supposed to be mature but everything that they said and did was extremely juvenile. Gabe honestly gave me the worst ick and I'm not saying Jess is any better but Gabe is just worse out of the two. He came across as very possessive and cringey constantly calling Jess "my girl" in his head and completely ignoring all of her boundaries she had set except for the no sex part. He felt very pushy and gross. Absolutely would not recommend this one and just to cement it home, I will leave you with a quote from the book that gave me absolute whiplash: 'I dont want to start a fight. Not when I came to work things out, but she looks like she's crossed the line from starving super model to concentration camp survivor. Except she has hair.'
