ALC Review~๐ŸŽง

If you loved Phantasma, get ready for Enchantra! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint! Book 2 follows Opheliaโ€™s sister Genevieve, in which she accepts an invitation to stay with a family in the Italian countryside, in hopes of finding answers about her mother and those that are truly like her.

What she doesnโ€™t expect to find is the ownerโ€™s son, Rowin Silver, tall, tattooed, pierced, shadow daddy, and broody as hell, telling her to leave. Did I mention that Genevieve is the type of FMC that listens to no one and defies him and his family at every turn? She refuses to leave, ultimately trapping herself in Enchantra and forced to play the devilโ€™s deadly game.

This story was a marriage of convenience, with the perfect combination of tension, banter, spice, and action! Iโ€™m absolutely in love with the worlds Kaylie Smith has created and Iโ€™ll be patiently awaiting book 3!

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this audiobook!

If you enjoyed Phantasma, you will enjoy Enchantra. Enchantra is very similar (re: almost identical) to Phantasma except it is technically set in the Italian countryside. It has a tournament style, life or death game set in a haunted house. It was a forced proximity style romance between a semi-paranormal woman and a 100% paranormal man. It is sexy and flirty. And, of course, it is paranormal and spooky and fun to read. This book also has a ton of dynamic characters, each which I could see having their own fantastic spin offs with interesting and engaging love stories.

This book also includes:
- demons and devils
- curses, lots of curses
- chaotic and complicated family dynamics
- cute af familiars
- bad decision making

While, its similarity to book 1 is part of the appeal...Enchantra has essential all the same plot beats as Phantasma, which sometime made it a bit boring and bland. The "challenges" also lacked an element of excitement, as the stakes sometimes felt very low, and Vivi really didn't take part in much of the excitement as it was mostly off page. The chemistry between Rowin and Vivi also felt a bit forced sometimes, although the last couple chapters were so good that I forgive that. I am definitely looking forward to the next book and am so eager to explore romances with Seven and Graves, who were my absolutely favorite of all of the insanely named siblings.

This was enjoyable, but it wasn't my favorite. I felt that Genevieve and Rowans relationship felt one dimensional. They went from 0 to 100 very quickly. Also, the ending felt very rush. It also seemed like the author had forgotten at some points that the mirrors allowed the demons to watch them during the games. There were points where they discussed things that they would not have wanted and audience to hear.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own

6 Stars

The light is wherever you are.

This was addictive! What a follow up to Phantasma. I loved listening to Genevieve and Rowingtonโ€™s story. The setting, the supporting characters, and the plot all had me gripped from the first chapter.

I love the plus size FMC representation were being curvy isnโ€™t her whole identity and as a fellow Aries, I really connected to her as a character. Rowin is getting added to the book boyfriend list for sure. What a man! Already planning my re-read for this one!

Kaylie Smith has done it again! I loved Genevieve & Rowin just as much as Ophelia & Blackwell. You do not have to read Phantasma to enjoy Enchantra, but I would recommend it for the backstory. The games of this book were interesting (I think there are six rounds), and the fact it is like a reality show broadcast through mirrors to the creatures of hell was added even more depth.

I was fascinated by the Silver family and the personalities of all the siblings. I am hoping another Silver is back as the main character of the next book in the series. Genevieve is a spitfire and not afraid to stand up to anyone, even a devil. Her banter and chemistry with Rowin is unmatched, and the spice is high heat (piercings, anyone?). There is a twist at the end that kept me on the edge of my seat until the final pages. While the romance is resolved, the plot to save the Silverโ€™s mother & potential drama with Blackwell leave me with many questions to wait for answering in book three!

๐ŸŽง Narrator: Laura Horowitz
๐ŸŽง Length: 11 hours 57 minutes

Laura Horowitz is one of my favorite audiobook narrators - she could read the dictionary and find a way to make it interesting! She did an amazing job voicing all of the characters in the story and giving nuance to each of their voices.

Enchantra is more than I could have dreamed. There were so many amazing twists and turns that kept me guessing. Genevieve just keeps pushing and prodding to get to the truth which I love about her and Rowin is her perfect match in every way. The exploration of more of the paranormal beings was really interesting, The more in depth understanding of wraiths was so intriguing especially Shadow Wraiths. I'm excited to see what will come next. The narrator of the audiobook is the same as Phantasma and I have to say it was narrated really well and ties in together perfectly.

โ€˜I deserve to be the centre of my own storyโ€™

This book is 6 stars ๐ŸŒŸ 5 stars is not enough stars to label how much I love this book.

Youโ€™ll love this if you like:
โ˜ ๏ธ Deadly Trials
๐ŸŽญ Masquerade Ball
๐Ÿ”ฅ Spicy Romance
๐Ÿ–ค Dark Gothic Vibes
๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Strong FMC

๐Ÿ’– Fake Dating with Forced Proximity

First off, a review for the audiobook:
Laura Horowitz truly brought this amazing world to life. Her narration was so well done and I thought she was the perfect voice for Genevieve. It truly enhanced the reading experience.

And now, a review for the story:
Kaylie has expertly crafted the most amazing world in Enchantra. It is a true talent to keep a book in one place and it never gets boring. I loved the way she designed the token rooms and the hidden doors/passages. Kaylie created the most atmospheric setting full of magic and dark gothic vibes. The magic system was so amazing. I loved the mixing of so many different paranormal creature and exploring the different kind of wraiths in the Silver family.

I adored the hide and seek element to the trials.
If I wasnโ€™t on the edge of my seat biting my nails in suspense, then I was kicking my feet and grinning so much my jaw hurt.

Genevieve was the perfect FMC. She is feminine, but fiercely independent. She is headstrong but caring. And what I love about her most is that she is unbelievably strong and confident, but also beautifully vulnerable. To top it all off, Genevieve wasnโ€™t the slim or athletically toned girl weโ€™ve come to expect from romatasy books. Sheโ€™s curvy and she owns it. An inspiration ๐ŸŒŸ

And where do I even start on Rowington Silver ๐Ÿคค He was the perfect bad boy MMC. I mean the shadow tattoos and piercings ๐Ÿ‘€
And the way he stood up for Genevieve is what every girl wants. The โ€˜Sheโ€™s mineโ€™ moments had me melting. He fell so hard and I enjoyed every second of it.

And there was an animal sidekick!! Adorable animal sidekicks are quickly becoming my favourite part of Kaylies writing and not only was Umbra top tier, I adored the other familiars and their connection to the siblings.

โ€˜Shadows can only be seen in the presence of lightโ€™

Rowin and Genevieve have firmly placed themselves in my top Romantasy couples list. The tension between these two was unreal. The fake dating trope coupled with forced proximity created the perfect reluctant allies to lovers situation. Their relationship developed so naturally, the addition of the two truths and a lie game was unbelievable wholesome and I loved the way Kaylie used it to give us background info and build the burn between them. And the spice was most definitely spicing! Chapter 33.. Thatโ€™s all Iโ€™ll say ๐Ÿ‘€

And that ending! I was on the edge of my seat and gasping, my poor little heart couldnโ€™t take it! But then I was back to kicking my feet and grinning like an idiot so all was right in the world ๐Ÿ˜‡

The epilogue left me so pumped for book 3! I am so ready for Kaylie to ruin me all over again ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ/5

Phantasma, while not groundbreaking, was undoubtedly a fun time. I was in for the gothic aesthetic and the trials, the OCD representation was fantastic, and the smut didn't make me want to pour bleach into my eyes. That's why Enchantra ended up becoming the first romantasy book to have appeared on my anticipated books of the year list. Unfortunately, it ended up being pretty formulaic.

I'll start with the good: Genevieve was a great protagonist! She's not like the not-like-other-girls girls and embraces her femininity. It was refreshing to have an FMC who's not 'stabby'. Of course, that doesn't stop her from being sharp-tongued but that too wasn't annoying. The Silver siblings had some very fun interactions throughout the book. Also, I'm glad that Rowin's bed was big enough to accommodate both him and Genevieve and no awkward one-bed interactions happened. Laura Horowitz was a phenomenal narrator and did a great job at giving each character a distinctive feel.

Unfortunately, the things I was most excited for ended up being poorly executed. The manor didn't have the decadence or immersiveness that I've come to associate with good gothic novels. The setting didn't evoke any feeling of awe that I wanted it to. Phantasma's trails were fun to read, with each one distinct from the others. The trails embodied the qualities of the seven circles of hell quite well. It pained me to see that Enchantra's game of hide and seek was unimaginative, poorly conceived, devoid of any stakes, and worst of all... excruciatingly dull. I always look forward to reading books that feature trails or games of any sort so this was the biggest disappointment.

Blackwell had a lot more personality than Rowin. Rowin is your standard love interest (indistinguishable from all of the other popular ones) with piercings and tattoos thrown in for better sex appeal who spews the usual 'who did this to you?' and 'touch her and die' lines. Dear authors/publishers, please stop calling the transition involving two people who constantly bicker and later become fueled with lust for each other 'enemies to lovers'. How said lust turned to love is beyond my understanding because I never felt that it existed. Even I (a known romantasy hater) have to admit that Ophelia and Blackwell had chemistry. I found it to be missing in Vivi and Rowin's relationship. The romantic scenes didn't make me feel anything because they didn't have a strong foundation to stand on and just felt like the author was trying to use the usual tropes.

All critiques aside, I will be reading the next book in the series. If it's about who I think it's about... let's just say that I'll be expecting too tier banter (that isn't clichรจd or feels forced). Although Enchantra was a miss, I'll consider the fact that Phantasma is my highest rated romantasy novel (4 stars isn't much but whatever) and hope that the next book will be a hit.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! I loved Phantasma but I LOVED Enchantra.

Genevieve is the FMC we all love and adore. She is no damsel in distress. I loved that she holds her own against the โ€œbig scaries.โ€ She was a very well developed FMC with heart, brains, friends, and backstory.

Rowin Silver: hold the phone we have found this books shadow daddy and he throws in a territorial lines to boot. Add a forced marriage to the mix and you know itโ€™s going to be good. Oh and did I mention the piercings read and youโ€™ll find out!

The rest of the family were a hoot, I enjoyed the games, and the world building. I liked that it held a minor connection to the first book other than the FMCs being related, but it also stood on its own without all that.

This one was definitely more on the romance side than the first but itโ€™s absolutely not a bad thing. I think it was really well balanced.

Already canโ€™t wait for the next one!

And for our audiobook narration absolutely no notes to give. I loved every second!

Thank you NetGalley, Kaylie Smith and Bookouture Audio, for the audiobook in exchange for my opinion.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook. I loved the first book in this series so I was very excited to be able to listen to the sequel. Genevieve and Rowin' story captured my attention from the start. I loved their banter and the way their relationship progressed. It did not feel like insta-love. I thought the games for each night of the hunt kept the story interesting. The "fox says" game had me kicking my feet! Can't wait for book 3!

I went into this book fully expecting to love itโ€”Iโ€™m a very proud Phantasma fangirlโ€”yet somehow, Kaylie Smith still managed to blow my mind with this novel. So. Freaking. Good.

This story hooks you from the start and never, not for a single moment, lets you go. I adored Ophelia and Blackwellโ€™s storyโ€ฆ but, between you and me, I think I loved Genevieve and Rowinโ€™s even more.

Youโ€™ve got all the spooky vibesโ€”another unpredictable, deeply atmospheric haunted mansion, more meddling devils, FAMILIARS, and a ridiculously fun, slightly psychotic (in the best way) family of immortal siblings cursed to participate in an annual hide-and-seek huntโ€”with lots of murder. Think Ready or Not.

I truly cannot recommend this book enough, along with Phantasma. Kaylie Smith is absolutely one to watch, and I canโ€™t wait to see where she takes us next in this universe.

So grateful to have received an early copy of Enchantra. Trust meโ€”youโ€™re gonna want to get your hands on this one ASAP!

(You bet your butts I preordered the special edition of this from B&N to get my hands on an exclusive chapter)

I was so excited when I received an ARC for this book because I thoroughly enjoyed Phantasma and was confident that I would have a great time with this one. I finished reading it in just two days because I was eager to discover what would happen in these deadly trials.

The story begins with a marriage of convenience, and then we have a slow burn between Genevieve and Rowin. But when the spice hit, I can say it was really good. Around chapter 29, things start getting hot, and was grinning from ear to ear. The things that this men said to herโ€ฆ!!!

I received this ARC for the audiobook, and I must say that even that this was not a dual narration (usually I like them this way) Laura Horowitzโ€™s narration was excellent.

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Second Sky Books, for providing me with this opportunity to listen to this book.

Iโ€™m really excited to see what the next story will bring us and to continue this journey. Excellent job, Kaylie Smith!

๐Ÿ’œ Enchantra ๐Ÿ’œ
By: Kaylie Smith
Rating: โญ๏ธโ™พ๏ธ (5 stars just isnโ€™t enough)
Release date: April 8th, 2025

This book is AMAZING! I absolutely loved Phantasma but this one has snuck up on me and is my new favorite in the series! I am hoping that there will be 7 for all 7 of the siblings but we will see!

This book follows Genevieve Grimm and Rowin Silver through the deadly games that Rowins family puts on every year. Vivi received a letter from Rowin that was addressed to her mother inviting her to their games but her mother had already passed away. Vivi saw this as a chance to get answers as to who Rowin was and how his family was tied to her mother.

Once she arrived to the Silver house she was rudely turned away by Rowin because he had intended for her mother to be there, not her. Vivi being the stubborn and determined woman she is, ignores his demand and enters the house anyways. What she doesnโ€™t know is by entering the house she then enters his families competition.

Vivi either has to join the hunt or die trying to escape. This book follows her and Rowinโ€™s attempts to survive as well as maintaining alliance disguised as a relationship.

This book is absolutely worth the read and I want to immediately start it over that is how great it was. Netgalley and Bookouture audio Thank you so much for the chance to listen to this! And Kaylie Smith thank you for yet another one of my all time favorite books!

Enchantra leaves Phantasmaโ€™s turn of the century run down Victorian mansion in New Orleans for a remote Italian manor house deep in the country. And itโ€™s Genevieve Grimmโ€™s turn to play a devilโ€™s game. Like her sister Ophelia though, she has tricks up her sleeve and cards to play. Enter Rowin, her grudging partner and mysterious shadow wielding son of the manorโ€™s owner. They must work together for a chance at freedom, even if itโ€™s at the cost of the rest of Rowinโ€™s family. Another magical tale by Kaylie Smith. If Phantasma reminds me of Phantom of the Opera in a bunch of ways, Iโ€™d say Enchantra reminds me of Labyrinth. Words can be twisty, and you can never be entirely certain about whatโ€™s actually going on, but itโ€™s beautifully romantic all the same. If you enjoyed Phantasma, absolutely read Enchantra, but if you havenโ€™t read it, start there then come here.

Give it a read for:

* Deadly games
* Shadow daddies
* Demons, Devils, & Wraiths
* Animal familiars
* Marriage of convenience
* Family dysfunctionโ€ฆin spades

I will say that there was one plot point introduced that we never get an answer to. It doesnโ€™t impact the progression of the plot, but I do think it was a missed opportunity to give more dimension to a character.

Also a thru line from Phantasma that is touched upon but barely expanded upon that leaves some book one questions still unanswered.

Hoping both of these things come back in book three, but for now, we wait.

Overall, a magical game with astronomical stakes, not for the whole world, but absolutely for our characters. Alice goes down the rabbit hole and lands smack dab in the middle of The Fall of the House of Usher. Be careful of the bargains you strike, and know your enemy.

As always, an excellent vocal performance by Laura Horowitz. I tend to listen to duel or duet narration because I tend to feel like there either is not enough distinction between voices or that the narrator playing the opposite sex either devolves into caricature or just isnโ€™t believable. Laura is one of very few narrators I enjoy doing a book solo, and this continues to hold with Enchantra.

First and foremost, thank you so much to the publisher and author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

Enchantra is book 2 in the Wicked Games series and it did not disappoint! Enchantra follows Opheliaโ€™s little sister Genevieve and the Silver family, primarily Rowin Silver. Genevieve gets herself into another twisted game, this time thru no fault of her own, as sheโ€™s tricked into it. To survive this game she finds herself in a marriage of convenience to none other than Rowin Silver. The two play their way thru Enchantra as a pair in a bid to win and escape the punishment of being trapped in hell and forced to repeat the game for eternity.

Overall, Enchantra was extremely entertaining! The banter off these two was up there, and the spice was just right! Laura Horowitz did an amazing job with the narration of this one!!! Definitely worth the read and cannot wait for book 3!!!

Kalylie Smith has cast her spell on me the second time around! She wowed me with Phantasma and I continued to be enchanted, enamored, and dazzled by Enchantra! It is gripping, sexy, dark, dangerous, magical, and deadly. I was once again swept away and into the wonderful gothic world that Kaylie Smith has created. I enjoyed her cast of characters, the atmosphere, the setting (mainly in Italy), the danger, and the scent of romance in the air!

Enchantra focuses on Genevieve Grimm who intercepts an invitation meant for her mother and travels to Italy in hopes of attending a gala at a beautiful palace. But this is not Cinderella's story, it's Genevieve's story and it is far from a fairy tale!

She is met by Rowin Silver, a tall, dark, and handsome man who is incredibly rude and warns her to stay away. But she is determined, headstrong, and curious and enters the grand home. Apparently, no one warned Genevieve what curiosity did to the cat! What she finds is a dark family that is caught in a deadly and twisted game. She must play or be trapped there. She and Rowin come up with a plan and an allegiance. Genevieve will soon wonder if their wicked games will be enough to win?

Holy Moly! Fans of Phantasma will love Enchantra as well! As I mentioned it has the same dark, deadly, wicked, twisted, and sexy vibe flowing throughout the book. I was never a big fantasy book reader but there are certain authors who have cast their magical spells on me and Kaylie Smith is one of them!

I enjoyed the banter, the chemistry, the world building, the twists, the tension, the dread, the danger, and the vivid descriptions in this book. I also enjoyed the magical aspect and Genevieve's spunk and courage. Plus, this book ends in a way that in my opinion left room for another book in the series. **wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Fans of fantasy, dark romance, enemies to lovers romance books will fall head over heels for this one. I know I did.

I was lucky enough to have both the kindle and audiobook version of Enchantra!!! Laura Horowitz narrated this book (she narrated Phantasma as well) and did a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life!!

Wonderfully written, dark, sexy, and left me wanting more!!!!

<B>*AUDIOBOOK REVIEW*</b>

I had the wonderful pleasure of being able to listen to the audiobook for Enchantra.
While I'm not much of an audiobook girlie, or more-so, I'm extremely picky about my audiobooks, this one was very well produced and I thoroughly enjoyed Laura Horowitz as the narrator.
Laura did a wonderful job of building the characters, giving them a voice, while transporting you into the story. There were a few times, however, where I was unsure of which character was speaking, but with there being so many different characters, I can only imagine how tough it is to create a different accent for each one, as the only person narrating. Despite that, Laura was engaging. In the more suspenseful moments, she projected her voice to make you feel on edge. When Genevieve would go into a more southern drawl, Laura executed it wonderfully. After listening to her on this, I want to seek out other books she's narrated.

The story itself was remarkable. It didn't stray far from what Phantasma was-really it kept the same formula in a different setting. While I believe many might not enjoy that, I've read plenty of books that completely changed what made the first one so good.

I enjoyed that the stakes were still high, but we got to experience first hand how Genevieve felt growing up in Ophie's shadow, while yearning to be loved and accepted. Her defiance and ferocity was a perfect match to Rowin's gloom.
The intensity of their chemistry was top notch, despite the instant loathing. However, it was just what Genevieve needed.

When the first games started, I instantly got 'Ready or Not' vibes. I think that's why I loved it so much. That movie was incredible, and while this is marketed as having a Labyrinth feel, I didn't much get that.

Overall, I feel like Kaylie did a wonderful job of sharing Genevieve's story, understand where her recklessness truly stems from, and just how broken she really was.

The spice also did not let me down. The ebb and flow of Rowington and Genevieve and the way they fight so hard against their mutual attraction to the way that Rowington is just so eager to ruin Genevieve because deep down he is just...enchanted by her.

Also, <spoiler>the last few chapters held me on the edge of my seat. For a moment I had lost hope that there would be a semblance of hope for Rowington and Genevieve. The amnesia trope was alive in these last few chapters that had my heartbreaking!!!! I will not hold back and lie....I did cry a bit. </spoiler>

Enchantra was so captivating and wonderful! I look forward to book 3.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Second Sky Books for the opportunity to listen to Enchantra ahead of its release date.

I really enjoyed this book. It was just as fun as Phantasma and I actually thought the love story made more sense than the one in Phantasma (which was quick and didn't seem like they had a chance to know each other). Another really fun enjoyable read I was excited to see there would be a third!

This is book 2 in the serie but can be read on it's own. And I mean it, I hate when a book is marketed as "can be read as a standalone" and then you dont understand half the story... So yes there are some comments about book 1 but no informations you need, just a better understanding of the family dynamic.

This is on the same model than Phantasma, only with immortal siblings having to kill eachother every year in a closed door game. And Genevieve lands in the game without meaning to. This is fast paced and spicy. The voices of the audiobook are nicely done.
I liked this book slightly better than book 1, Here the game was making more sense to me.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for access to the audiobook against an honest review.*
