A nicely done book, even if it is about a rather niche subject. And it's not the most perfect subject, either – sonar exploration. A fair few of these pages concentrate on how we've learnt so much about deep-sea coral, as opposed to the shallow water types, and while we find where they might live through sonar, we actually find them living through visual observation. And of course, all the sonar noise is not good for aquatic life – beaked whales are the worst when it comes to responding terribly badly to the racket our navies and scientists are putting out. I would have guessed this topic made a good chapter in a much wider look at ocean science, but as it is, in isolation, it is a nicely pictorial, commonsensical primary school science book, and just about earns four stars.

Saw this book available on Netgalley and was curious so I decided to download it. The subject had always interested me and it looked to be a quick little read.
This is a very short children’s level book about underwater technology and sonar. I really enjoyed reading this. It had a lot of good information and it’s formatted in such a way that it’ll be easy for younger readers to enjoy. Pictures went well with the information.
Overall I really enjoyed it and recommend it for all readers, especially young readers.
