Our favorite criminal-turned-lawyer Eddie Flynn has taken a case in deeply racist Buckstown, Alabama.
Eddie is representing Andy Dubois, a young man accused of murdering a close friend, in a town where all crimes seem to lead to the electric chair, regardless of guilt.
This novel REALLY made my blood boil. The corruption and abuse of power were unspeakably vile and just so absolutely infuriating.
The afterword was chilling.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

"He’s won every trial…because he’s behind every murder."
The Devil's Advocate is the sixth book in the Eddie Flynn series and I read this one as a standalone, but can't wait to read more from this series. This one is set in a Southern town, which has tons of secrets and corruption. Eddie, who is a New York lawyer, ends up having only seven days to save an innocent man. He finds himself up against a corrupt system in order to find the real killer in this page turning read. The author wrote this well and I enjoyed every character in this book. All of the twists in this book were great and this thriller sizzles with suspense. Overall, this had me hooked from the beginning and I highly enjoyed this one. I would recommend it to any reader who likes crime or thriller books. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this amazing read in exchange of my honest review of The Devil's Advocate by Steve Cavanagh.

From its chilling prologue to its tense courtroom scenes, The Devil’s Advocate delivers a fast-paced legal thriller packed with corruption, greed, and high stakes. Over the course of just one week, multiple plot threads and characters intertwine, each adding weight to a story about power, prejudice, and justice.
It’s not always easy to read given the darker themes, but the suspense, twists, and surprising reveals kept me hooked. Even as part of a series, it works well as a standalone and leaves you wanting to dive into more of Cavanagh’s work.

I read the first few books in this series years ago and loved them. I was devastated to realize I couldn't easily access the newer titles, so when I saw these were being published for the US market, I jumped at the chance to review an early copy.
This series features a cast of characters so clearly developed it's like I'm watching a movie of them in my head. Eddie Flynn is like all the best parts of Jack Reacher, Harry Bosch, and Mickey Haller, all in one character. He's fascinating to read, and you know he's going to have a fail proof strategy you'll never see coming.
The Devil's Advocate was haunting in its portrayal of the south in a political climate that feels a lot like present day. It tackled the tension of a small town confronted with racism, corruption, and murder. The connections to today brought a significance to a story that could have easily just been another thriller novel.
I enjoy the ways in which Cavanagh crafts his stories, weaves together plot lines, and brings characters to life in subtle ways. This was definitely a five-star read for me!

THIS BOOK HAD ME SO STRESSED OUT OMG. This book is SO GOOD. So freaking good. I am obsessed with this series and every single book is so unique, especially this one. But I have never felt so stressed and nervous about how things are going. It is such a stark reminder of how messed up the judicial system is, the unbridled power that people have in PUBLIC SERVICE roles and how disgusting so many people act and think about others. It hurt to read sometimes, especially the rampant racism in this town reflecting so much that is going on today. I am so attached to these characters and my heart is broken for Andy and his mom and so many others. The ending was so good, even though I think some people got off way too easy for their sickening crimes.

Thank you NetGalley! Another great addition to the Eddie Flynn series. I love this authors books! This one really drew me and made me feel angry for the main characters. It was a nail biting thriller

Thank you to Atria books via Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love the Eddie Flynn books. This book was another one he knocked out of the park. To say I am emotionally invested in these characters is an understatement he had me thinking and gasping at things that were not what I expected and if it was I would have been so upset. This book had me hooked until the end and I didn’t guess who the killer was usually I have an inkling. This time not a clue. It had a lot of interesting background details into the history of the location and its people as well. If you have not read an Eddie Flynn book yet you are missing out they are truly so good if you love police procedural books. This author does not disappoint in any of his books.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had a hard time getting into the book but I’m so glad I stuck with it.
I’ve never read anything by Steve Cavanagh before. But I’m gonna be definitely checking out the Eddie Flynn series
Okay on to the review:
Eddie gets asked by Alexander Berlin to take on the case of Andy Dubois. He’s been charged with murder and the district attorney is seeking the death penalty. I don’t want to spoil it, so I won’t say anymore.
There are so many twists and turns and laugh out loud lines.
And once the action ramps up, it’s impossible to stop reading.
9/10. 4/5. Would definitely recommend

In the 6th installment of the Eddie Flynn series, Eddie travels to Alabama to defend Andy Dubois, the boy accused of murdering Skylar Edwards. Andy was the last person to see Skylar alive at the diner they worked at together, so naturally he is the top suspect. But, Buckstown, Alabama isn't quite as it appears. There are abused powers present between the Sheriff and District Attorney and together they have charged, prosecuted, and sent more men to death row then anyone else in the United States history. But, were they really guilty and why are there so many murders?
Review:
I am addicted to this series! I have read books 4,5, and 6 now and need to go back to read the first 3 so that I can continue the series. I don't think these need to be read in order, but once you read one you will be hooked so just do yourself a favor and read the entire series. Steve Cavanagh knows how to write a procedural story with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing the entire time. This one was full of corruption, bribery, unethical practices, hate groups, and racism. It was hard to read certain parts, but so well done. The characters were well developed and I honestly wanted to punch a couple of them.
The Devil's Advocate is available now and I highly recommend picking this one up and the entire Eddie Flynn series!
Thank you to NetGalley, Steve Cavanagh, and Atria Books for this ARC of The Devil's Advocate in exchange for an honest review!

𝗔𝗥𝗖 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪:
Here we have book #6 of the Eddie Flynn series and I’m not going to go too much into detail because you should read all of the other ones. It has multiple POV, lots of twists and turns, a good amount of suspense. We follow Eddie after a woman is killed and they are trying to see the TRUTH through the CORRUPT. Nothing like a story involving corrupt cops, I enjoyed everything about this book from start to finish. The wild ride you’ll go on and by the ending, you’ll be picking your jaw up.
𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: Crime Thriller, Capital Punishment, Small Town, Twists, Turns, Multiple POV, Suspense, Corrupt Law
Large thank you to our Author, NetGalley as well as Atria Books

I feel like this is a repeat of my review of Eddie Flynn book 5, but I just love this series. I appreciated the change of setting, that gave this story a little something extra compared to the rest of the series, set in NYC.
I will comment again, I'm not taking any points off because it's not the author/story's fault, but the US publication being out of order is frustrating. Yes, you can read the series as stand alones but there's so many little references and call backs and some major character activities that you miss reading them out of order.
I will keep reading this series until it's over, the twists are wild and the characters are just so well written and diverse.
Thank you Atria Books and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have become hooked on Steve Cavanagh's former con man turned lawyer Eddie Flynn, and The Devil's Advocate gives readers another opportunity to watch him pull one legal rabbit out of his hat after another.
The stakes are high in this case. Young Andy Dubois is innocent, but Randal Korn is a master at convicting the innocent. Eddie is one of those "slick" New York City lawyers who probably won't get a fair deal in Deep South Alabama. There's also a packed jury to contend with. But Eddie has an expert team to help him, and with only seven days, every second counts.
I have to admit that I did find Randal Korn and all the evil surrounding him to be a bit over the top, but I still enjoyed The Devil's Advocate. Why? Because it's always a pleasure to watch Eddie Flynn perform miracles when everything is stacked against him. I look forward to his next case.

Eddie Flynn is back and better than ever. I’ve read a few of the Eddie Flynn books now, none of them in order. (You don’t need to) I absolutely love Eddie and his no nonsense attitude. Steve Cavanagh has crafted an incredible cast of characters that also include, his trusty side kick Harry, His smart as a whip partner lawyer Kate and kick ass security extraordinaire Bloch. Together they form an unbeatable team. This book made me laugh out loud so many times, as well as cry my eyes out. It’s just so well written and opens your eyes to the racism and bigotry sadly still very much alive in the US. The team take on a case in the Deep South when a young white woman is murdered they say by a young black man. Of course we all know he’s innocent from the start. But the obstacles they face seem impossible. How they take on the case is nothing less than brilliant. I wish I could rate this book a million stars, I loved it that much. I’m so glad I have more books to read in this series. I hope there are many more.

Thank You NetGalley for early access to this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This is my 4th book I have read in the Eddie Flynn universe and one of the more difficult ones I have read. It was difficult because of the content matter. This tackled some very heavy topics that unfortunately still plague our towns today. It was beautifully written and Eddie Flynn and his team never seize to amaze me. Can't wait to continue on with his story

I was super excited to be given an ARC of the Devil's Advocate from Netgalley, so I am leaving a voluntary review. Thank you Netgalley!
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It had the typical suspense and courtroom drama that I have come to expect from an Eddie Flynn novel. Even though it is part of a series, the Devil's Advocate can be ready as a standalone (though I highly recommend starting from the first book).
The only thing that made this book slightly difficult (and different) to read was that there is a trigger of discussing racism of the deep south. This setting was heavy in the book and may be upsetting to read by some. The author did a great job in handling the sensitivity of the situations that occur.

⚖️SUMMARY: In this legal thriller, Alabama District Attorney Randal Korn has his own motives and he thrives on securing convictions, EVEN if it means condemning the innocent. When a young black man, Andy Dubois is wrongfully accused of murdering a young girl, Korn manipulates the system to ensure a swift conviction. However, the stakes rise when Eddie Flynn, a clever former con artist turned lawyer from New York, steps in to defend Dubois. With just seven days until the verdict, Eddie must navigate a web of corruption to uncover the truth and save an innocent man—all while risking his own life in the process.
⚖️MY THOUGHTS: I am really enjoying the Eddie Flynn series by Steve Cavanagh! This is book 6 of 9, and they can be read in any order. This installment takes us from New York to the sweltering heat and humidity of Alabama, in a county plagued by police corruption, prejudice, and systemic injustice. The drama unfolds through the third-person perspectives of several characters. We learn early on who commits the crime and who is behind the deception. What remains uncertain is how Eddie Flynn will navigate closed doors, jail cells, and treacherous alliances to secure justice for his client and perhaps even put an end to the corruption in the area!
The storyline is intriguing and unfolds quickly, with our favorite characters returning alongside Flynn and his team. This book is a must-read if you enjoy courtroom drama, legal team dynamics, and a layered narrative!

Jump right into this series as con artist turned lawyer and his team unravel the dark secrets in small town Alabama where race, religion, and politics all meld in the worst ways to frame an innocent man in a capital murder trial. Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy for a honest review.

In this pulse-pounding legal thriller, secrets run deeper than anyone in this small town dares to admit. Behind the friendly faces and tidy streets lurks something far darker—lies, power, and a killer hiding in plain sight.
Ambitious District Attorney Randal Korn has never lost a case, and that’s no accident—he makes sure the guilty verdict comes down, even if the accused is innocent. This time, it’s Andy Dubois, a quiet man accused of murdering a young girl. Korn’s already rigged the trial, and the clock is ticking toward a death sentence.
But then Eddie Flynn shows up—a slick, street-smart former con artist turned lawyer. He’s got just seven days to untangle the web of corruption, expose the real killer, and survive long enough to hear the verdict.
In this town, everyone’s got something to hide… and some secrets are worth killing for.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review. This was awesome.

This is a fast paced drama with some pretty evil people. I enjoyed the intensity and the twist at the end. Being a southerner, I did feel the author was a bit derogatory towards us in general. But, the story is quick and full of twists and turns.

After I read my first Steve Cavanagh book a few weeks ago, I binged all of the ones that were available here. So needless to say, The Devil’s Advocate was a hit for me.
