Y’all… my heart was doing cardio it did not sign up for.

District Attorney Randal Korn (yes, Korn—rotten to the core) lives for the death penalty and doesn’t mind faking a “fair trial” to get it. His next victim? An innocent man framed for murder.

Enter Eddie Flynn: ex-con, fast-talking lawyer, and chaos on two legs. He’s got seven days to outsmart a corrupt system, dodge a killer, and maybe not die in the process. The courtroom scenes had my palms sweaty and my jaw clenched, and that final twist? Chef’s kiss—I had to just sit there and blink.

Cavanagh writes like a jolt of black coffee with a shot of adrenaline—fast, sharp, and dangerously addictive. If you like legal thrillers that grab you by the throat and don’t apologize, buckle up!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gut-punching, devious, and impossible to put down.

If you like crime thrillers, this just might be for you. there are strong plots, nervous suspense, and courtroom drama. a man possibly facing death row for a murder he claims he didnt commit. So Eddie Flynn is on the case to figure out the truth. fast paced for sure. with an endless list of suspects (possibly the whole town). This was my first book by this author, and I would be interested to check out others in his lineup.

This is not the first book I have read by Steve Cavanagh and it won’t be the last. I really like the character Eddie Flynn. Eddie takes on an impossible to win case again. It was riveting from start to finish. I thought I had the bad guy figured out but was wrong. It’s a must read and I look forward to more of his books.

Eddie Flynn and his team are in for the fight of their lives in this book. They’re up against a deadly prosecutor who has sent more men to
Death row than any other DA in the history of the US. And Korn now has Eddie’s client in his sights…

This book will definitely keep you engaged every step of the way. This corrupt town will infuriate you to no end and we keep hoping and praying for a favorable end for Eddie’s client. There were so many ups and
downs throughout this one and you will be on the edge of your seat.

Anyone else desperate to meet Eddie Flynn in real life?!🤣

Steve Cavanagh’s The Devil's Advocate continues the Eddie Flynn series with all the signature elements fans have come to expect—clever cons, a picked pocket or two, and Eddie’s relentless pursuit of justice for the innocent. This installment brings back the full crew from Eddie’s office and dives into darker territory, touching on themes like white supremacy and systemic corruption. While the story moves quickly and includes several twists, the abundance of unlikeable characters and a slightly muted suspense factor made this one less gripping for me compared to others in the series. Still, it’s a solid legal thriller for longtime fans.

I did enjoy this novel – it is fast-paced, thrilling and suspenseful- but not as much as the previous installments. I am a fan of this series and do look forward to reading more from Steve Cavanagh in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

If you have not read any Steve Cavanaugh's books, I cannot recommend them enough!!! I binged this latest installment of Eddie Flynn and was not disappointed at all! The author does a good job of quickly providing Eddie's background so if this is your first, you will have no issues. But, having read the entire series, I can honestly say that you will miss out on the character development over the prior installments if you don't start with the first book. Loved this and cannot wait for book #7!!!

Whether you do the right thing or the wrong thing...

...there will always be consequences.

Eddie Flynn, a con artist who evolved into a NY lawyer (some might say that's not a long journey), has just seven days to defend his new client. The accused is Andy Dubois, a young black man; the victim, Skylar Edwards, a white woman; and the venue, Buckstown, Alabama. With those facts alone, it is clear that this is going to be a major challenge for Eddie. Buckstown is no stranger to racism or corruption, and the local DA Randal Korn has such a solid track record in securing death penalty sentences for those he prosecutes that his nickname is the King of Death Row. He wins regardless of the guilt or innocence of the defendant, as he has no qualms about manipulating evidence and intimidating witnesses who might undermine his chosen narrative. Can Eddie and his team (which includes his regular associates Kate and Bloch) prove Andy's innocence, cast a spotlight on the corrupt system at work and maybe even find the real killer?
Author Steve Cavanagh is known for fast-paced legal thrillers full of twists and his unorthodox protagonist Eddie Flynn; this is the sixth novel featuring that character. The story starts out with a bang, grabbing the reader's attention early and keeping it throughout with well crafted courtroom scenes and the suspenseful atmosphere as Eddie applies his resourcefulness and skills to hunt for the truth against steep odds. There is definitely some social commentary at play here, with issues of racism and its presence in the judicial system, white supremacy, police corruption and so on...given its original publication date in 2022, not long after the summer of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, not an unlikely set of themes to address. The ensemble cast of Eddie, Kate and Bloch has been well-developed over the duration of the series, the villain of the piece is a nasty bit of work, and there's a man of mystery in the mix with the Pastor. The core strength for me in Cavanagh's books is always the legal aspect, rendered well, warts and all. Given the many legal thrillers out there, its hard for any author to avoid plot elements and devices that haven't been seen before (and Cavanagh is no exception to that rule) and I found the story wrapping up somewhat abruptly, but it is a solid addition to the series and a great summer read. Readers of Cavanagh's previous installments as well as fans of Paul Levine, Phillip Margolin and Robert Dugoni will find this an appealing title. My thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for allowing me access to this courtroom drama in exchange for my honest review.

What a series! This latest case (re-lease) for Eddie Flynn will have you gasping at the pure evil nature of a corrupt DA and the vile behaviors of his posse. This is set in the Deep South where sadly, some are slow to change their minds when it comes to equal rights. Eddie sees right through the deception and implores many of his “skills” to defend the rights of an innocent man. I truly loved seeing another side of Eddie in this complex and sinister case.

This was absolutely INFURIATING, made it hard to get through for me. It was twisty and well written even if I didn't exactly enjoy the experience.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

In the heart of Alabama, where justice is anything but blind, defense attorney Eddie Flynn faces his most dangerous case yet. A young black man, Andy Dubois, stands accused of murdering a white girl, and the evidence seems overwhelming. Dna, a confession, and a town convinced of his guilt. But Eddie knows something isn't right. Called in after Andy's original lawyer mysteriously disappears, Eddie finds himself up against DA Randal Korn, a man notorious for his obsession with the death penalty and his control over the legal system. As Eddie and his team dig deeper, they uncover a web of corruption, racism, and hidden forces determined to see Andy executed, no matter the truth. Time is running out. The trial is days away. The more Eddie uncovers the more dangerous the case becomes. Can Eddie expose the truth before it's too late?

Another great read by legal thriller genius Steve Cavanagh! With fast paced precision, The Devil's Advocate tackles both courtroom drama and social injustice. Cavanagh doesn't shy away from hard topics, Racial bias, abuse of power, and the broken system that is the death penalty. Yet, the book never feels preachy. The social commentary is woven naturally into the narrative through tension, character choices and some shocking reveals. Eddie is one of my favorite main male characters in the genre. He is driven, witty, and willing to bend the rules for the right reasons. The supporting characters Bloch, Kate, and Harry all add depth to the story. I love seeing more of Bloch's POV in this one! Overall, The Devil's Advocate is a gripping, morally charged legal thriller that combines a smart plot, real world relevance, and suspense. Definitely a must read!

Thank you to NetGalley, Steve Cavanagh, and Atria Books for this ARC! Publication date is August 5th 2025.

Thank you for my gifted copy, Atria!

I will never be sick of Eddie Flynn. I feel like each installment gets more insane and unhinged, and often, by the end I have gnawed off all of my fingertips. Steve Cavanagh is one of the greats. I am not a fan of procedural thrillers at all, but every single book he writes transcends that.

⚖️🔥 THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE 🔥⚖️
by Steve Cavanagh
📖 Pub Date: 8/5/25 | Atria Books

He’s won every trial… because he’s behind every murder.

Eddie Flynn is back and slick, street-smart, and with only seven days to save an innocent man from the death penalty. But in small-town Alabama, justice isn’t blind, it’s also rigged. DA Randal Korn, “the King of Death Row,” has never met an execution he didn’t want…and he’s already fixed this case.

What follows is a tense, twist-filled legal thriller that blends:
✔️ Multiple POVs
✔️ Small-town corruption
✔️ Racism, white supremacy & capital punishment
✔️ Fast-paced courtroom drama
✔️ A villain you’ll love to hate

💥 Why it hits hard:
This isn’t just a razor-sharp mystery, it’s a commentary on a justice system stacked against the vulnerable. Cavanagh weaves real-world death penalty stats and history into a story that’s both exhilarating and thought-provoking. The tension? Relentless. The stakes? Life or death. Eddie Flynn? As brilliant and unorthodox as ever.

If you like your thrillers with grit, corruption, and hold-your-breath courtroom scenes and this one’s a must-read.

💬 QOTD: Do you prefer legal thrillers that stick to the fictional drama, or ones that weave in real-world justice issues?

Steve does it again!
I absolutely love all Cavanaghs books but the Eddie Fly series is the best! The court room descriptions the suspense and all the characters surrounding Eddie, love them all.

Steve Cavanagh is the king of the courtroom thriller. I used to live for a new John Grisham book but Steve Cavanagh has dethroned him. Every book I pick up hooks me immediately and I cannot put it down until I know how it ends. I am so glad his previous books are being republished so everyone is becoming aware of how amazing he is.

Eddie Flynn is up against The King of Death Row, the DA who has sent more people to death than any other. He travels south to try to save an innocent man from the electric chair. Can Eddie save him, or will he be another victim?

3.75 rounded up.

Eddie Flynn, the lawyer we know and love, is back again for another complex case. Eddie is asked to support an out-of-state case, where the prosecutor seems to be hell-bent on getting the death penalty for most of his cases. In this case, Andy DuBois is accused of murdering Skylar Edwards outside of their place of work. There is a lot of evidence that points to Andy, but Eddie and his team are convinced of Andy’s innocence. In a corrupt, small-town, Eddie has his work cut out for him to prove Andy’s innocence.

This was quite the journey! Steve Cavanagh is one of my favorite authors, and I really love this Eddie Flynn series. He does an amazing job of presenting a difficult case and providing us with an impressive turnaround from the defense. It’s always extremely clever and this book was no different. In this story, there was a side plot that was important to the main plot; however, at a point (for me), it got to be a bit too much. The level of corruption and murder to cover up for the bad guys was starting to get a bit unrealistic for me. Once we got back to the case itself, it found its rhythm again for me. I love seeing Eddie in his element.

If you haven’t read any part of the Eddie Flynn series, I highly recommend it. I had previously read Thirteen as a stand-alone and it was amazing. The Devil’s Advocate was also stellar. Eddie is in the Deep South defending a death row case of young Andy who is accused of killing his young white female co-worker when his attorney disappears. The District Attorney has the highest death sentence conviction rate of any attorney in the country. Is he just good at his job or is there something more happening here? In true Eddie Flynn fashion, the situation gets sketchy, more people turn up dead, and Eddie and his team are also threatened. The Devil’s Advocate is an edge of your seat legal thriller with a completely relatable and likable main character. I’ll be reading the entire series now!

This book was an okay read for me. There were parts that made me angry, parts that had me quietly cheering and a couple spots that actually made me laugh. It was a book that held your interest and kept you asking what was going to happen next. I liked Eddie Flynn and his team, especially Bloch! She was quiet and stealthy and offered a lot to the book, without really talking much! This was my first Steve Cavanagh book but won’t be my last.n

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Steve Cavanagh has done it again! The Devil’s Advocate is everything I love about the Eddie Flynn series and more. From the very first page, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Cavanagh’s writing is razor-sharp, perfectly balancing gripping courtroom drama with tense, high-stakes action. Eddie Flynn remains one of my favorite fictional characters—smart, resourceful, and always two steps ahead.

This installment is darker and more sinister than the previous ones, weaving in small-town corruption, chilling murders, and a villain that is as terrifying as they come. The twists? Absolutely jaw-dropping. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Cavanagh threw in another curveball that left me stunned.

I love how seamlessly he blends legal thriller elements with psychological suspense, creating a story that’s both intellectually satisfying and pulse-pounding. It’s everything I want in a thriller: a clever plot, dynamic characters, and nonstop tension.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Steve Cavanagh for the ARC. If you love twisty, unputdownable thrillers and haven’t met Eddie Flynn yet, you’re missing out. The Devil’s Advocate is a must-read and easily one of my favorite books in the series!
