The Devil’s Advocate by Steve Cavanagh is a brilliantly twisted legal thriller that grips from the first page. With its clever plot and unexpected twists, Cavanagh delivers a thrilling, page-turning experience that’s hard to put down.

I enjoyed Steve Cavanagh’s stand alone novel, “Kill For Me, Kill For You” and was excited to read another book by the author. However, “The Devil’s Advocate” was a miss for me.
While not my cup of tea, I have no doubt this book will appeal to others who enjoy thrillers that combine legal drama with psychological elements. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

4.25-Star ARC Review: The Devil’s Advocate by Steve Cavanagh
Thank you to the publisher for the chance to read an advance copy of The Devil’s Advocate in exchange for my honest review.
Steve Cavanagh delivers yet another gripping legal thriller with The Devil’s Advocate. Fast-paced, high-stakes, and relentlessly entertaining, this installment in the Eddie Flynn series had me hooked from start to finish. Cavanagh knows how to craft a courtroom scene like no other—tense, smart, and full of twists that genuinely surprise.
This time around, Eddie is up against a corrupt and deeply sinister prosecutor with a terrifying win-at-all-costs mindset. The setting—a small Southern town with a dark history of death penalty abuse—adds a chilling atmosphere that raises the stakes even higher. The moral complexity here is sharp and timely, giving the story emotional weight beyond the thrills.
Eddie Flynn is as clever and charismatic as ever, and the supporting cast brings balance and humor just when it’s needed. My only (minor) critique is that some moments felt a bit over-the-top, stretching believability just slightly—but that’s part of the fun with this series.
If you’re a fan of smart legal drama with a conscience, twisty plotting, and a hero worth rooting for, The Devil’s Advocate should be high on your list. It’s bold, addictive, and exactly what you want from a legal thriller.

The story had a lot of stories going on. I didn’t enjoy reading this book. I was angry throughout most of the book.

Anything by Steve cavanagh is a 5 star masterpiece ! I own most physical books but I’m always looking forward to him announcing a new release

Steve Kavanagh is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. In the Devil’s Advocate Attorney Eddie Flynn and his team are tasked with representing a young black man charged with murdering a young white woman. The DA has the highest death penalty conviction rate in the country and seems to enjoy it. This book is the definition of thriller.
This story includes themes of racism and white supremacy, which seems relevant to today’s political climate.

Everything Steve Cavanagh writes is pure gold, The Devil’s Advocate included. You cannot convince me otherwise!

I love this author! His storylines are always amazing with lots of twists! Great book! As always with this author, the writing is exemplary! I love all of his books.

Steve Cavanagh has done it again with The Devil’s Advocate! This gripping legal thriller is packed with twists and turns that keep you hooked from start to finish. The writing is sharp, the pacing relentless, and the courtroom drama is as intense as ever. Just when you think you know where the story is going, Cavanagh throws in another surprise that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The characters are compelling, and the suspense is masterfully built, making it nearly impossible to put down. Cavanagh’s storytelling is top-notch, and his ability to weave intricate plots with clever misdirection is truly impressive. If you love thrillers with high stakes and unexpected revelations, this book is a must-read.

This book is pure legal thriller chaos in the best way possible. It’s fast, it’s tense, and it keeps you guessing until the very end. If you like high-stakes courtroom drama with a side of how-is-this-even-legal moments, you’re in for a treat.
Things I absolutely enjoyed:
📖 Pacing that doesn’t let up – I blinked, and suddenly it was 2 AM.
💥 Twists on twists on twists – Just when you think you’ve got it figured out… nope.
🗣️ Sharp dialogue and snarky comebacks – Because what’s a legal thriller without some well-placed sass?
🎭 Characters that jump off the page – Some I rooted for, some I wanted to throw into traffic.
⚖️ That satisfying “justice must prevail” energy – Even if the path to it is… questionable.
If you’re looking for a legal thriller that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go, this is it. Just clear your schedule—you won’t want to stop reading.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow this book was a lot to unpack. All your favorite characters are back Eddie Flynn, Kate, Bloch, Harry and some others. The team is sent to Alabama to defend African American Andy Dubois on trial for capital murder and looking at the death penalty. DA Korn is know as the king of death. Can Eddie Flynn pull off saving an innocent man without getting himself killed too. I felt all the emotions in this book, my jaw was on the floor multiple times.
Dirty cops, racists, devil worship.
I can’t get enough of Eddie Flynn 😊
Thank you net galley for an ARC of this book.

Such a good twist and turns, keeps you in the edge of your seat book! I’m disappointed to know this is a series and I dived right into it. But nonetheless really good book. I give it a 4 out of 5

I got this book recently as an arc as it’s going to be rereleased in August.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. It kept me guessing and wondering what was going to happen next. The author did a great job of telling the story and keeping the reader invested in the story. Highly recommend for anyone who loves suspense and legal mysteries like myself.

Steve Cavanagh’s The Devil’s Advocate is a captivating and thought-provoking addition to the Eddie Flynn legal thriller series. In this installment, Eddie, the sharp-witted ex-con turned lawyer, faces his toughest case yet: defending Andy Dubois, an innocent young black man accused of a brutal murder in the racially charged town of Buckstown, Alabama. The evidence against Andy seems insurmountable—two confessions and a town eager for a conviction—yet Eddie doesn’t back down, despite the personal and professional risks.
The plot is a thrilling rollercoaster, with Eddie and his team going head-to-head with a corrupt District Attorney, Randal Korn, and a white supremacist group led by the sinister Pastor. As Eddie digs deeper, he uncovers dark secrets about the town and the true reasons behind the murder. The tense courtroom drama, coupled with Cavanagh’s fast-paced, twist-filled storytelling, makes for an exhilarating read that keeps you turning pages.
What sets this book apart are its heavy themes of capital punishment and systemic racism, which are explored in the context of the American justice system. Cavanagh does a masterful job of weaving these serious issues into the narrative, making the story as intellectually stimulating as it is thrilling.
With Eddie’s unorthodox methods, fast-talking charm, and fierce determination, The Devil’s Advocate is a powerful, dark, and intense legal thriller that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. Cavanagh’s portrayal of the corrupt and dangerous forces Eddie faces is gripping, making this an absolute must-read for fans of crime thrillers.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a sharp, suspenseful story with a conscience. Can’t wait for Eddie Flynn’s next adventure!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm quickly learning two things, one- I'm a Steve Cavanagh fan, and two- I need the rest of this series! I went into this blind, and I had absolutely no idea I was diving into the middle of a series I've never started. Everything went smoothly. Not having ready the books before this one didn't affect my reading experience at all! This was a thrrrrrriiiler I didn't want to put down after I started!

I love this series nad the way Steve Cavanagh writes them. He totally nailed this one and I have no complaints. I was hooked and got it read in a day.

The Devil's Advocate is a decent legal thriller with a compelling premise. While the courtroom drama was engaging, the plot felt a bit predictable at times, and some twists didn’t land as strongly as I expected. Overall, an okay read, but not as thrilling as I hoped.

The Summer of Steve (Cavanagh) continues with the 3rd 2025 release of one of his books that was previously not published in the US: Devil’s Advocate. In this one Eddie Flynn and the gang pull a My Cousin Vinny as they head south to take on an evil Alabama DA and the town he has corrupted. It channels Vinny and Greg Iles but in Cavanagh’s signature fast paced, twisty legal thriller style.
The case at the center of this book is the murder of the town sweetheart, which has been pinned on her Black coworker. Enter Eddie to (try to) save the day. But he and Harry might have met their match in the diabolical district attorney prosecuting the case.
Couldn’t stop reading - highly recommend. The ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Comes out August 5, 2025.

This is not the first book I’ve read by this author, but it IS the first book that I’ve read in his Eddie Flynn series. Normally, I don’t like to read a series out of order. I typically make the decision to start a series and then begin with #1. But thanks to NetGalley and Atria books, I was given the opportunity to read this book early (I believe it is a re-release of a previously released book).
And what can I say except WOW! I was immediately invested in the story, and I think it’s been quite awhile since I’ve experienced the range of emotions I felt reading this book. My gosh did I feel my blood boiling over the actions of the DA, Randall Korn, and his evil tendrils that had taken ahold of various members of the town ( and state) of Alabama.
I could not put this book down. I happened to be reading it during a particularly busy week and while I wanted to sit for hours on end and just plain get to the end (for vindication- hopefully!) I was forced to take my time and read when I could. I am absolutely going to be circling back to the start of the series and reading the rest of the Eddie Flynn books- though I had no issue reading this one despite it being in the later part of the series. I quickly developed an affinity with Eddie and his team and it didn’t take long before I was rooting for them. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
