Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for this arc!
I love a good Eddie Flynn book, honestly who doesn’t? I haven’t read one yet where Steve Cavanagh has disappointed me yet. I feel like this would be great on audio too and am looking forward to getting my hands on that next

I’ll take all things Eddie Flynn please. This is my second read featuring Eddie Flynn from Steve Cavanagh and it’s just as good as the last.
Eddie Flynn is a former con artist turned lawyer who always finds himself in just a BIT of danger (read in tone of sarcasm). The opponents Eddie faces are often some seriously twisted people and it makes the read that much more enjoyable. You’ll think how can people be like this? But simultaneously know there’s absolutely these people out there. The rest of the returning cast (Kate, Harry, and Bloch) are a joy to read as well. Each provides their own unique role in the story that also stays true to who they have been in past books.
This book follows the above crew as they go to Alabama to defend Andy Dubois accused of murdering a young girl. They are up against a formidable opponent in DA Korn, and with only a week before the trial is over Eddie and his team have a lot of work to do.
I enjoyed every bit of this book and highly recommend it! Don’t feel put off by the fact that it’s not the first book in the series following Eddie Flynn. Steve Cavanagh does an excellent job of making this book read like a standalone with some references to past books. You don’t need to read any of the past books to understand and love this one. But I’m telling you when you read it you’ll be digging back through the past books because you just can’t get enough.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The latest Flynn book did not disappoint! This one was set in the south and had some uniquely despicable villains but tv same lovable cast with Flynn/ Brooks etc. an amazing legal thriller!

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.
I very much enjoyed this book. The writing was great and the characters were well developed. I hope to read more from this author in the future.

I love the Eddie Flynn series, but this one wasn't my favorite of them. The death row inmate angle was interesting, but the masochistic white supremacist with too much power was a bit too much for my liking.

Thank you to Netgalley for this arc of The Devil's Advocate. This book was so good. Steve Cavanagh is really good at writing courtroom thrillers. This follows an Attorney, Randal who is all about wining cases and watching prisoner's being executed, even if they're really innocent. Another attorney by the name of Eddie has a week to prove the innocence of a prisoner and something happens to him. This book was so good, I read it in one sitting. I could not put this book down. The detailing made me feel like I was in a real life court room.

The Devil's Advocate managed to make me hit a level of anger/frustration I don't think I've ever felt while reading a book. I would get so angry at the corruption and would have to put it down and walk away for a minute. But never for too long because I REALLY wanted to find out how it was going to play out. Korn is probably my most hated book character in a looooong time. He's a horrible human being and the fact that there are really people and departments out there that function like this is beyond horrifying. If there is one thing Steve Cavanagh excels in, it's pulling you right into the story and making you feel part of it. A definite recommended read, but brace yourself!

The Devil’s Advocate brings us back to Eddie Flynn, but this time, he’s deep in the heart of Alabama, facing one of his most dangerous cases yet. Eddie is fighting to save an young man from death row—a man who has been framed for a murder he didn’t commit. As he steps into a town riddled with corruption and racism, Eddie and his team must go up against a justice system that has been twisted into a tool for evil.
I loved seeing Eddie and his team back together again. Each member of his legal crew is distinct, resourceful, and likable, making them an integral part of the story’s charm. I NEVER want to lose any of them—do you hear me, Steve Cavanagh?! The level of corruption in this town is staggering, painting a terrifying picture of what happens when power is wielded with cruelty rather than justice. While some elements of the story leaned toward the unbelievable, it didn’t take away from the thrill. I was fully invested and tore through this book in just two days.
If you haven’t started this series yet, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Cavanagh delivers another gripping, high-stakes legal thriller that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
A huge thank you to Atria Books eGalley and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

I swear this series gets better with every single book, and this one was absolute perfection from start to finish. The creep factor was high, I loved that for the first time, Eddie got out of New York and ventured into the deep south and to an extremely corrupt small town. It seemed like every time I turned the page, a new member of law enforcement or the justice system was involved in the bad things happening. I couldn't read fast enough! HIGHLY recommend this book, and this entire series.

I feel like I keep repeating myself but Steve Cavanagh's books are so good! Another excellent addition to the Eddie Flynn series. The Devil's advocate is book #6 in the series. This one tackled heavier topics like racism and the death penalty. I could not put this book down, I love the characters and the passion they each bring to the court room. Now I have to find book 7.

I read the series out of order and it still worked out for me. love love this author, a new favorite of mine.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Eddie Flynn series is an all time great series and this installment is no different. So twisty it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really appreciate the real life themes of the book the things that are going on around us and the people effected by them. Steve Cavanagh has a way of telling stories that make you not want to put the book down and leaves you waiting for the next book. This is a must read for thriller fans.

Steve Cavanagh is quickly becoming one of my favorite author with his Eddie Flynn series. I didn't knowLove this series filled with action-packed, suspense-filled, legal thriller! This one did not disappoint, I could read Steve Cavanagh forever. Devoured this book in 2 days.

When I got approved for The Devil’s Advocate, I was so excited that I posted about it in a few book groups—only to be told that the book has actually been out for years. Not sure why it’s still being distributed as an ARC, but honestly, I’ll take any excuse to read Steve Cavanagh’s work.
Right away, the premise hooked me. A corrupt district attorney who abuses his power to send innocent people to death row? A small town where the law is being twisted to serve a psychopath? It’s a terrifyingly real concept, and Cavanagh executes it brilliantly. The book also doesn’t shy away from heavier themes like systemic racism, white supremacy, and gun culture, all of which are woven seamlessly into the plot without feeling forced.
I love a legal thriller that doesn’t get bogged down in dry courtroom procedures, and this one is packed with action. Just when I thought I had a handle on what was happening, another twist would throw me completely off. The pacing is sharp, the stakes are high, and the way everything unfolds is so satisfying.
Eddie Flynn is easily one of my favorite protagonists—smart, quick-witted, and genuinely likable—but Berlin absolutely stole the show for me in this one. And that ending? Perfection.
If you’re into fast-paced legal thrillers with strong characters and plenty of twists, this is an easy recommendation. Fans of John Grisham’s The Guardians or Scott Turow’s Presumed Innocent will eat this up.

The Devil’s Advocate by Steve Cavanagh is truly a masterpiece. Just when I thought there was no hope for Eddie Flynn, another twist would be right around the corner. Though the beginning had a little bit of a slow start and I though the beginning chapter had no relevance, Cavanagh has a way to tie everything together. The last 100 pages was explosive in how everything came together. I can’t wait for more!

I would read the back of a cereal box if Steve Cavanagh wrote it! I love the Eddie Flynn series and his stand alone novels!

I love this author's writing style. However this setting and plot line seemed pretty heavy handed at times. Listen, no one is more anti-MAGA than I am, and frankly I applaud the book drawing attention to racism, injustices and the flaws in the justice system. It reads with a lot of social commentary. It's commentary that I whole heartedly agree with, but some of your reads are probably going to feel very defensive and very attacked (as they should).

I have read all of the previous books in this series, and been a big fan up to this point. So I was excited to receive the ARC for this book. While the characters are still engaging, it is quite obvious that the author has very limited experience on the American South. His depiction of the peoples beliefs, morals and ideology is extremely one dimensional. It feels as if Mr Cavanagh got all of his information about the region, it's people and its history from a MSNBC panel. I expected better. Maybe next time.

A legal thriller with a vile prosecutor who has an exponentially high number of Death Row convictions? Yes, please!
Something is rotten in the town of Bucktown, Alabama. Skylar Edwards, a young college student, is finishing the closing shift at the bar where she works. Her co-worker Andy Dubois, a young Black man, leaves with her. When Skylar is found brutally murdered, it stands to reason that the last person to see her alive, Andy, would be arrested. One problem--Andy is clearly innocent, and no one, including the judge, seems to care.
When New York lawyer Eddie Flynn catches wind of the corruption, he travels to the South intent on not just setting Andy free, but exposing every single corrupt person in this town. Unfortunately, Eddie has no idea just how rotten this town is and how far the racism goes. As someone who has lived in the deep South all my life, Steve Cavanagh was spot on with his portrayal of small-town Southern towns, even in this day and age. No, not every place is like this, but change seems to move slower down here. The author's notes were absolutely soul-crushing, and it taught me some things I wasn't aware of--like the dark truth behind The Freedom Riders.
Thank you to Atria Books for this early copy. This title is set to publish August 5, 2025.
