Engrossing legal thriller! Loved the multiple POVs. The plot kept me engaged from the get go and the courtroom scenes were so well done. Poetic justice at its finest!

Eddie Flynn is back again. This time he is defending a man on trial for murder in a small town with no chance of a fair trial. The district attorney Randall Korn is famous for sending the most people to death row in the history of the United States and plans to add the defendant to his list. Eddie Flynn enters the story when his client’s attorney goes missing. Eddie knows that something shady is going on in this small town and he is just the man to do something about it. I love Steve Cavanagh’s writing style and I love Eddie Flynn. His legal team is so endearing and they work together like a family. This is one of my favorite book series and I will recommend it to all of my friends. I love that they are all coming to Kindle and other E-readers. Thank you to Atria books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Devil’s Advocate is a thought-provoking story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Randal Korn, a deadly prosecutor, has sent more men to their deaths than any district attorney in the history of the United States.
When a young woman, Skylar Edwards, is found murdered in Buckstown, Alabama, a corrupt sheriff arrests the last person to see her alive, Andy Dubois. Despite being innocent, all odds are against him since everyone in Buckstown believes Andy is guilty.
With no hope of a fair trial, my favourite fictional lawyer, Eddie Flynn, plans to destroy the prosecutor's case, find the real killer and save Andy from the electric chair.
But the murders are only beginning—there’s something far sinister behind this innocent woman’s death.
Based on what I have read, the Eddie Flynn series is…and I’m not exaggerating, outstanding. The characters are everything. We have a former con artist turned elite defence attorney, Harry Ford, Eddie’s mentor and a retired judge, who has a way with words that I was looking up to him as a mentor, AS A READER. Then we have Eddie’s new law partner, Kate Brooks, a strong, independent woman who is new to the career but doing exceptionally, and Bloch. Bloch is an amazing private investigator who scares me a little but in a good way. This unique group of four is a true force of intelligence—and it's impossible to put the book away. The face, what seems like the impossible, and they capitalize on every minuscule thing and turn it into something big that can completely change the outcome. It’s never written sloppily, where it seems like an afterthought for the author. Whenever I read anything from Steve Cavanagh, I mentally map things out, and everything comes together perfectly. This makes his writing so addicting!
I haven’t tackled this whole series yet, but I’m working on it. It’s easy to read, but at the same time, it’s so intricate. I never feel lost with all the information. I’m mind-boggled but never lost, and I never think I am left with unanswered questions. This story, in particular, was interesting because the reader is so focused on saving this innocent life, the trial, and all the corruption, and you zone in on all that; then, as the story progresses, there’s a bigger picture. This was an excellent story; again, I love the characters, the plot, and the twists; this series will never get old for me; it’s far too exciting! I can’t wait for more! Lucky for me, I still have some of this series to catch up on.

I enjoyed this immensely. It had a gripping, solid plot that kept my interest from start to finish. It didn't feel overly predictable, and I found myself rather surprised quite a few times. The writing was excellent, and the pacing was perfect. I also loved the characters. My only issue was that I did not realize this was part of a series that I haven't read. Although the story was easy to follow I felt like I was missing out on a lot of character background and wish I would have read the series in order.

A new setting for Eddie Flynn as he travels to the South to seek justice for an innocent man about to be murdered at the hands of a crooked DA. I did not see the twist coming, and I am still a bit confused by the red herring at the beginning about the unknown culprit. However, still a fast-paced and entertaining read from Cavanaugh.

I've found a new author to add to my auto-buy list! I enjoyed Devil's Advocate and Fifty-fifty by Steve Cavanagh. I really like the characters, the story build up and all the twists and turns. Highly recommended for fellow thriller enthusiasts.

You would think this book was just speculative fiction if the last five months of the US hadn't taken place - denying due process, trying to take away birthright citizenship, suspending habeus corpus. And yet here we are. This book skims the surface of how radicalization happens, seeping into people bit by bit with a constant onslaught of propaganda. Out of all the deaths, Skylar to be a martyr for a cause is heartbreaking and Andy to be the sacrifice to set the stage for a race war. Well paced and quick thinking and exploring the casual racism that continues its rot.
Don't know about Korn and his limp and other weird stuff though. That dude...eesh.

Steve Cavanagh became one of my favorite authors. I haven’t read any books of his that I don’t enjoy.

The Devil's Advocate is the 6th book in a series following our protagonist, Eddie Flynn. After a boy is accused of murder in a small town, the District Attorney Randall Korn seeks the death penalty. This is not the first time. He has questionable motives and history, since he has helped to sentence more individuals to death than anyone else in the country. A family friend reaches out to Eddie Flynn and his team, requesting their help in representing the boy. Flynns' methods are unorthodox, but he seeks to save his client. With the help of his team, they uncover more than they expected and do everything to prevent the boy from becoming another notch on the belt of the King of Death Row.
This was the first book I have read by Steve Cavanagh, and I have to say, I plan to read more. After finding out this was the sixth book in the series, I plan to start from the beginning. The story was well written and flowed with ease. He does a great job of displaying the different personalities of all the characters involved. When you think the book is coming to an end, he throws another twist, which keeps it going, for the better. I would highly recommend this book, even if you are someone who doesn’t like novels about the court; this one is worth reading. Give it a chance like I did, and you won't be disappointed.
I want to thank Netgalley, Steve Cavanagh and ATRIA Books for giving me this opportunity to read this book and discover a new series to read.

The Devil’s Advocate is the 6th installment in the Eddie Flynn saga by Steve Cavanagh. It centers on a small southern town with crooked police and an even more corrupt district attorney. A district attorney who holds the record for sending defendants to the execution chamber. Guilty or not, it does not matter. A district attorney who by definition should probably be sitting in that chamber himself. His prey? Andy Dubois, a young black man accused of murdering a white woman. Eddie, Kate, Harry and Bloch are tasked with defending him. In a town where no one plays by the rules and a guilty verdict is a foregone conclusion, can they turn the tables and save an innocent man’s life? What’s more, can they expose the years of crime and corruption at the core of this?
I am absolutely addicted to Cavanagh’s writing. Seriously cannot get enough. This book took me a bit longer to get through than the previous one but that had more to do with how hard (emotionally) it was to read. The actions and motives described are centered on white supremacy and are incredibly disturbing especially given our current political climate in America. It should make you uncomfortable to read, I’d be concerned if it didn’t. Huge credit to Cavanagh for the way he addresses it.
I have already located the previous Eddie Flynn books and I will be reading them immediately. I pride myself on predicting twisty endings but I honestly gave up on this one and just settled in for the ride. Highly recommend.
Huge thank you to Atria Books for offering this title for advanced review via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I am sad to say that this ARC ended up being one that I had to DNF around 11%. It was a little too slow paced for my liking and while I’m aware I did not give it much of a chance, I didn’t feel any connection to the characters. I think I’ve realized I’m more into fast paced when it comes to crime stories. However, if you like slower paced suspense, I would recommend reading this one. Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for letting me receive this ebook ARC in exchange for a review. I’m sorry I didn’t have a better one for you this time around!

Wow Wow Wow! Excellent writing! I was hooked from the Prologue on. This was also my first legal thriller I've ever read. I was invested in each character, one so different from the next but they all played so well together. The dry humor had me laughing out loud and the kills had me throwing the blankets up over my head. This was a very full story with twists I didn't see coming. There was never a dull moment, the story never slowed down. The depths the legal team took to prove their case was beyond brilliant. I loved seeing how it all unfolded and I didn't want it to end. Even a deeper story within the story developed towards the end. I've only read one other book by @sscav and I gave that one 5 stars too! Thank you @atriabooks @netgalley for this ARC. Be sure to pick up a copy Aug 5, 2025!! Eddie Flynn fangirl right here!

Great to have Eddie back and this time in a challenging environment. This time the New York attorney gets a special call and heads to a stereotypical Southern town to defend a man accused of murder. His defense leads to an investigation of irregularities in the number of convictions and executions. Lots to digest and enjoy

I have been enjoying this authors books. All of the main characters are so likable and I want to continue reading more with them in it. The story lines are full of mystery that keep me wanting to read more. I received this from net galley for my honest opinion.

A timely story to get your blood boiling!
I truly enjoyed this book, and had to stay up late to know how it ended.

Steve Cavanaugh never disappoints, especially when it involves Eddie Flynn. This book is a pulsating work of fiction that speaks of White Supremacy, capital punishment and wrongful convictions.
When Andy, a young black man, is accused of murdering a popular, well-liked, white girl, Eddie Flynn takes on his case with only a few days to prepare before trial. Eddie and his team had no idea what they were walking into. With a DA who thrives on death penalty cases, a corrupt police department and a group of White Supremacists pushing for a conviction, Flynn must work fast and efficiently to save Andy.
This book will give you heart palpitations. It’s more thrilling with each turn of the page. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves thrillers, courtroom dramas or just a good book. Thank you, NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC.

🌟🌟🌟🌟💫
Book 6 of the Eddie Flynn series.
And once again Steve Cavanaugh manages to provide enough detail and background necessary to allow this book to stand solidly on its own.
Eddie Flynn is a former con-man turned defense attorney. He will only take your case if he believes in your innocence 💯. And make no mistake, if you hire him he will stop at nothing to ensure you are acquitted!
Andy Dubois is on trial for his life. Facing the death penalty, Eddie Flynn and his amazing law group are asked to come to Alabama to take over Andy’s defense. You see, Andy’s first lawyer suddenly disappeared just days before the trial was to begin. Hmmm…interesting. And downright suspicious!
Eddie will have his hands full going up against D.A. Randal Korn. He boasts a nearly perfect success rate in the courtroom, sending more people to death row than any other D.A. Best of luck Mr. Korn, you’ve never gone up against Eddie Flynn…until now!
The themes that define this book:
1️⃣racism
2️⃣small town corruption
3️⃣capital punishment.
Make sure to read the author’s note at the end. It is frighteningly sobering.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books

The Devil’s Advocate is like To Kill a Mockingbird on steroids. Eddie Flynn and his team return in this gripping legal thriller, this time heading deep into the heart of Alabama to defend a young Black man wrongly accused of murdering a white girl.
From the outset, the tension is thick. The team is met with open hostility in a town that seems frozen in time — and not in a good way. The local justice system is a nightmare: a corrupt district attorney obsessed with securing death penalty convictions, a brutal sheriff’s department, and the sinister presence of a white supremacist group lurking just out of sight.
This book doesn’t shy away from the ugliness of racism or the flaws in the American justice system. It’s intense, emotionally charged, and at times difficult to read — not because of the writing, but because the subject matter is so heavy and real. And yet, that’s what makes the story important. It forces readers to confront uncomfortable truths while rooting for justice to prevail.
Thank you @netgalley and @atriabooks for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Steve Cavanagh with another 5 star Eddie Flynn thriller!
As Flynn heads to the south to defend a client he just knows is innocent, Flynn and his team run into problem after problem, and realize he's in the biggest fight of his life. Amazing story, great characters, and a perfect ending.
Thank you Mr. Cavanagh!

Eddie Flynn, a former con artist turned criminal defense attorney in New York City, travels to rural Buckstown, Alabama, to take on the case of Andy Dubois—a young man accused of murdering 19-year-old Skylar Edwards, his coworker. Andy faces the death penalty, and the odds are stacked against him.
Eddie is drawn into the case by an old acquaintance, someone burdened with guilt. Years ago, this person helped elevate Randal Korn to district attorney—a man now infamous as the “King of Death Row” for having secured more death penalty convictions than anyone else in the country. Now, Korn is prosecuting Andy.
But once Eddie and his team arrive in Buckstown, they uncover a web of corruption and injustice far worse than they expected. The county’s problems run deeper than just one ruthless prosecutor. As they dig into the case, it becomes clear that some powerful people will stop at nothing to see Andy executed. The fight for justice becomes a dangerous race against time—and the system itself.
I’ve read a few of the Eddie Flynn novels now, and I’m always a little surprised by how much I enjoy them. As a lawyer, legal thrillers can be frustrating—so often they veer into the wildly unrealistic. But The Devil’s Advocate, like the other books I’ve read by Steve Cavanagh, is consistently gripping and smart. The former con man-turned-defense attorney angle gives Cavanagh more creative freedom than most courtroom dramas, and it works. I also appreciated the way this book acknowledges the racial injustice embedded in the legal system—a timely and important thread in a story that doesn’t shy away from difficult truths. At a moment when speaking out matters more than ever, this one feels especially relevant.
