This is extremely well paced. Crime, corruption and a whole lot of murder. I didn’t realize this was a series with Eddie Flynn so now I need to go back and start from the beginning. I definitely want to go back and listen to this series as well. Steve Cavanagh is quickly becoming a must buy author.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for allowing me an ARC copy.

The Devil's Advocate is the sixth book in Cavanagh's Eddie Flynn series. This happens to be the third one I've read and I've enjoyed them all. It's fast-paced and clever, with a good bit of action. I like that these books don't have lulls to them, since I tend to be impatient with thrillers. I even learned a couple of things about history, thanks to the author's note at the end. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Recommended for fans of the series and readers of fast-paced legal thrillers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC.

OH! MY! GOODNESS!! I LOVED THIS! This is my first Eddie Flynn book and i think im obsessed now! I loved all the twist and turns. I normally don’t like books with injustice and racism, etc but this book kept me wanting to read more instead of throwing my book across the room because of the racism. This book has some graphic scenes involving murder so check trigger warnings. I’m just mad it took me forever to read this one!

It was very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot! I just wish I would have seen more of the explanation of the murder and how they were able to get away with it.

This book is clever and blew me away! Eddie Flynn and his team are dragged down to the south that seems to be stuck in 1960 to help a young kid who is being tried for a murder of a friend. But in a racist town, it's not just him fighting the court system, it's him against the entire state, With a prosecutor who's greatest joy is to send defendants, guilty or innocent, to death row. A "Pastor" who is trying to "Cleanse" the town and state to a White Only Order. In the end, it comes down to good vs evil What's the price for of your integrity? I loved the way Eddie Flynn had a to go the hard route to try and clear this young man. Every time he would find something helpful, someone ends up dead. He had to think 4 steps ahead at all time in order to try and stay just one step ahead of all those working against him. This book does a great job of bringing you into a world that you hope doesn't still exist but you know it does. I was anxious the entire book, with all the twists and turns, near death experiences, and murders that take place.

Thank you Netgalley, Steve Cavanagh, and Simon & Schuster for this advanced copy. This review is my honest opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Devil’s Advocate! Though I’ve been reading the Eddie Flynn series out of order (books 4, 5, 6, and 8), this installment quickly became my favorite.

The premise is incredibly compelling. The storyline was emotionally charged and timely. The themes of systemic injustice and abuse of power were deeply felt and handled in a way that kept me both furious and fully engaged.

From the very first page, the pacing never let up. The legal scenes were not only suspenseful but had moments of wit and cleverness that made the tension easier to absorb without ever losing momentum. Eddie Flynn continues to be such an enjoyable character. He’s thoughtful, sharp, and always unpredictable.

This was a smart, entertaining and emotionally resonant legal thriller that will stick with me. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this one early!

This book gripped me from the first page and didn’t let go, not even at the end. The pacing is relentless, the stakes are sky-high, and the emotional weight of the story hit me hard. Eddie is up against a corrupt system, a horrifying death penalty case, and the kind of evil that wears a smile and shakes your hand. It’s not just about winning a trial this time. It’s about exposing something rotten, something terrifying, something real.

The courtroom scenes are razor sharp as always, but what really stood out was the atmosphere. This book burns with tension, both legal and moral. Eddie is clever, gutsy, and more human than ever. He never forgets the weight of what he's fighting for, and neither do you.

Steve Cavanagh doesn’t just deliver a legal thriller. He delivers a punch to the gut. This is storytelling with a purpose. And that ending? Jaw-dropping.

Easily one of the best in the series. Highly, highly recommend!

While this was a very fast paced thriller it wasn’t as thrilling as some of his other books. It was good don’t get me wrong, it just wasn’t my favorite. It kept me engaged but it was a bit predictable. I would definitely recommend it still. It might just be a me thing.

The body count is high, the twists are many and the ending is satisfying, all typical aspects of a Steve Cavanagh novel! The Devil’s Advocate is part of the Eddie Flynn series and certainly continues the trend of Eddie taking on the opposition, in this case, a dirty district attorney, a dirty sheriff and a biased judge.

District Attorney Korn is a chillingly evil man who enjoys sending people to the death chamber. Whether they are guilty of the crime or not does not matter to him. He has been successful in corrupting those around him. Eddie and his team come in to defend an innocent man with the evidence stacked against him. This is a fast-paced thriller with intense chapter endings and just when you think it’s over or you have it figured out, think again! I really enjoy the characters of Eddie and his crew and will continue reading this series. This novel can also be read as a standalone.

Thanks to the author, NetGalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Books are ments to make you feel things, and boy did this one make my blood boil! The racism, blind justice, and manipulation that the Pastor and the DA used against poor Andy DuBois was sickening. It truly hurts that our history had multiple occurrences like this for minorities, and in some places it is still occurring.

What I loved about this book is watching Eddie Flynn and his group work through the crime, play the White Camellia group against each other, and ultimately get redemption for Andy and his momma. As a Steve Cavanagh fan, this one was not a 5⭐️ read as the back and forth of the chapters and the MANY similar characters at times was a tad confusing. But overall, this is a solid 4⭐️ read by Steve Cavanagh!

Cavanagh's sharp writing and engaging narrative style keep readers on the edge of their seats as Flynn navigates the complexities of the legal system and unearths dark secrets.

While I wish I could say the plot line of this installment was outlandish, sadly, it’s much closer to the truth than to fiction. A sinister white supremacist organization working hand in hand with the DA and sheriff’s office to do the devils work in the name of the almighty.

There were more than a handful of scenes that outright chilled me to the bone. And because of that, I felt myself even more drawn to Eddie, Kate, Bloch, and Harry, as the “good guys” come to town to defend a young Black man accused of a heinous murder; the town out for blood. While I sometimes feel not quite brilliant enough for Cavanagh’s intricate web of a plot line, I still enjoyed (and was simultaneously terrified) by The Devil’s Advocate.

What to expect:
▪️legal procedurals
▪️cult(ish) vibes
▪️ensemble casts
▪️morally grey characters

Thank you Atria for the advanced copy.

The Devil's Advocate by Steve Cavanagh is a paperback rerelease. I could not put this book down.

"District Attorney Randal Korn lives to watch prisoner's executed - even if they're not guilty. An innocent man, Andy Dubois faces the death penalty for the murder of a young girl. Korn has fixed the evidence so that he'll get a quick conviction. But he hadn't counted on Eddie Flynn.
Eddie has only one week to prove Andy's innocence...if he stay alive."

Cavanagh kept amazing me at the way he kept creating impossible situations and tension - and then writing his way out of it. Eddie puts all of his con man and hustler skills to work to save an innocent life. Korn is an extremely creepy bad guy - very disturbed - more serial killer than District Attorney. Characters describe him as smelling like death and something rotten. (You find out why - so jacked up) There's a wild ending in the courtroom and later in town. No spoilers about who makes it to the end.

This can be read as a standalone. Don't miss this great Eddie Flynn story from Cavanagh.

I've really been enjoying the Eddie Flynn series, this was no exception. Very fast paced and interesting all the way through. I enjoyed the small town, everyone knows everyone type of vibe to it. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

Eddie is up against his most dangerous case yet. An innocent black man, Andy Dubois, has been arrested for murder deep in the heart of the South where racism still runs deep and deadly. The district attorney, Randall Korn, is determined to have justice and see Andy executed; even if he isn't guilty. DA Korn doesn't truly care about justice, he simply loves seeing people suffer and he's manipulated the town and it's officials to get what he wants for a long time.

It's up to Eddie to save Andy and uncover the evil that is lurking deep in this town's history.

I've long loved the Eddie Flynn series but this one is my most favorite to date. The suspense was on every page and I honestly suspected everyone but Eddie and his team at some point. But I did not see the twist coming!

3 1/2 Stars

I've been seeing lots of people rave about this author, so when I saw this listed on NetGalley, I wanted to give it a try. And, I can see the hype! I jumped right into this series at number 6 and while I do think I would have appreciated some of the backstory, it didn't deter me from enjoying overall.

Eddie and his cast of characters are super fun and I loved all the courtroom drama playing out and how clever it all was. They made some strategic moves that had me wanting to cheer.

There were A LOT of characters that I got lost in a few times, and there was one reveal at the end that I'm going to call a little bit of BS on...

Overall I did enjoy this novel – it is fast-paced, thrilling and suspenseful, and there are lots of bad characters to root against. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

What a bingeable read! An intense David vs. Goliath type case for defense attorney Eddie Flynn and his crew. The tension was palpable in this fast-paced and twisty legal thriller. Through its social commentary, this book is as thought-provoking as it is pulse-pounding.

Eddie and crew travel from NYC to take on this high-stakes case where an innocent young black man faces the death penalty after a sham investigation. They were up against a sadistic DA and deep corruption and collusion between law enforcement and the judicial system in small-town Alabama. The motivations behind the injustice were disturbing and horrific. Don't skip the Author's Note, where Cavanagh shares some grim statistics that correspond with the story.

Eddie Flynn is my favorite fictional attorney, a former con artist turned defense attorney and champion for justice. As always, his quick wit, old con artist tricks, and ability to stay steps ahead of the bad guys are cleverly plotted and fun to witness. His courtroom strategy is unmatched. I also love his crew and their close dynamic. Even though Harry and Kate have some pivotal scenes, Bloch gets more of the spotlight in this one, and I loved it. She is badass. This was gripping, emotional, well-written, and hard to put down.

I’m in my Eddie Flynn era and I’M NOT SORRY!

Nobody does it like Steve Cavanagh. And no one practices law like former con man Eddie Flynn! Devil’s Advocate has Eddie and his team going up against crooked cops, corrupt politicians, and a prosecutor who gets his rocks off by watching executions—even when he knows the man being put to death is innocent. Actually, especially in that scenario. Eddie only defends people he believes to be innocent, and Andy Dubois’s case is right up his alley. Between Eddie’s street smarts, his partner Kate’s legal prowess, retired Judge Harry’s wise advice, and their investigator Bloch’s IDGAF attitude, we have a solid legal thriller!

This one takes place in the Deep South of Alabama, so there is plenty of racial tension. There is also a twisted religious aspect, and a few characters who have a crisis of conscience.

I hope you pick this one up when it publishes on August 5, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Thank you to the publishers for gifting me an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Grab your sweet tea and buttermilk biscuits because Eddie Flynn is going South!

Buckstown, Alabama. District attorney Randal Korn lives for that guilty verdict and it’s made all the sweeter by the death penalty. Quite literally he lives to watch others executed. Guilty or not.

Eddie Flynn and his New York team are asked to represent a young man in Buckstown, Alabama charged with murder. He may be innocent, but he faces the death penalty if convicted. Eddie and the team have their work cut out for them because with Korn at the legal helm, this town is about become a whole lot twister and darker than anyone imagined.

What else can I say about Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn books… except READ THEM!!!! This one stands up there with the best of them! Kate Brooks and Bloch absolutely shine in this book. I love a BA woman sticking it to the man. And of course everyone’s favorite, Harry holds them all together.

These books never get old!! 4.5 stars.

*Everyone always asks, this is part of the Eddie Flynn series... Do I have to read them in order? And my answer is no! I read number 4 first and then I went back and read 1 and 2. Then I read 8 and now 5 and 6😆 I do think it probably makes for a better overall narrative to read them in order, but not necessary!
