Grab your sweet tea and buttermilk biscuits because Eddie Flynn is going South!
Buckstown, Alabama. District attorney Randal Korn lives for that guilty verdict and it’s made all the sweeter by the death penalty. Quite literally he lives to watch others executed. Guilty or not.
Eddie Flynn and his New York team are asked to represent a young man in Buckstown, Alabama charged with murder. He may be innocent, but he faces the death penalty if convicted. Eddie and the team have their work cut out for them because with Korn at the legal helm, this town is about become a whole lot twister and darker than anyone imagined.
What else can I say about Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn books… except READ THEM!!!! This one stands up there with the best of them! Kate Brooks and Bloch absolutely shine in this book. I love a BA woman sticking it to the man. And of course everyone’s favorite, Harry holds them all together.
These books never get old!! 4.5 stars.
*Everyone always asks, this is part of the Eddie Flynn series... Do I have to read them in order? And my answer is no! I read number 4 first and then I went back and read 1 and 2. Then I read 8 and now 5 and 6😆 I do think it probably makes for a better overall narrative to read them in order, but not necessary!

If you’ve ever read an Eddie Flynn story, you will absolutely love this one. He’s back and making even bigger waves. This story was a rollercoaster that I would ride again and again. I loved the details of the characters and how bad the bad guys were! I could envision and almost smell them!

I really enjoyed this. Thank you for the advanced reader's copy. I was hooked from the beginning and the tension really pulled me in. I couldn't get away from this and finished it in two days.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC.
Steve Cavanagh, I will read anything you write! The Eddie Flynn series is such a fun one. Always such good storylines and The Devil's Advocate is no different. What a treat.

The Devil’s Advocate was a gripping read with nonstop tension. Eddie Flynn is such a fun character to follow—smart, gutsy, and always one step ahead (or trying to be). The courtroom scenes were intense and clever, and the pacing never let up.
I really liked the small-town setting and the high-stakes death penalty case—it added a darker, more urgent tone compared to some of the earlier books. A few parts felt a little over-the-top, but honestly, that’s part of the fun with this series.
If you enjoy fast, twisty legal thrillers with a sharp lead and a bit of moral complexity, this one’s definitely worth picking up!

Thanks to social media, true crime podcasts, and the ID Channel, we now have expertise on criminal minds, more specifically, those who commit murder. Armed with all this content, we are now armchair experts on society’s deviants. But through all this criminal education, the lines between the defendant and the district attorney have never been blurred. The DA is on one side providing evidence, and the defendant on the other fighting for his or her life. But what would happen if the DA himself was the one with the deviant mind? What if he was using his position to manipulate both the evidence and the jury?
This is the case with the legal thriller, The Devil’s Advocate, by Steve Cavanagh. Randal Korn is a murderer in every sense of the word. He just happens to have the title of district attorney. His ultimate desire is to spend his life watching prisoners being executed. His thrill is peaked even further when they are innocent, and he is the cause of their departure.
Andy Debois is an innocent man on trial for murdering Skylar Edwards, a young girl from Buckstown, Alabama. Eddie Flynn, former con-artist turned lawyer, is the only person standing between Andy Debois and the electric chair. Flynn is clever, crafty, and charismatic . . . but is he talented enough to not only save Andy from the corrupt system, but to also find the real killer in just seven days?
Brilliantly written, Cavanagh delivered a unique spin on the justice system. It will keep your heart pounding and your fingers turning the pages. You won’t want to put it down!

This is book 6 in the Eddie Flynn series. This case is tougher than most. Berlin shows up at Eddie’s office wanting him to travel down to Buckstown, Alabama and defend Anthony Dubois. Dubois has been charged with Skylar’s murder. What makes this case even tougher is the fact that Anthony is black and Skylar is white.
Enter Randal Korn, the DA, who always goes for the death penalty and has a one hundred percent conviction rate. He is not one to be outsmarted easily.
This book had me flipping the pages wanting to know what was going to happen. There are issues of racism, white supremacy, police corruption, as well as corruption in the prosecutors office.
This was a great novel that I’ve come to expect from Steve Cavanagh. Eddie Flynn and his team are hands down the ones I would want on my case if I needed a defense lawyer.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I have really come to love the Eddie Flynn series and this one just added to that love. This time Eddie and his team are called to Alabama to try to help a young man who is wrongly accused of murder. What Eddie uncovers is not only wrongful accusation of a young man but corruption of so many people at many level of government he has to try to stop everyone before it’s too late.
This book has such a great flow with characters that I just loved to read about. I can’t wait to see what comes next. Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Let me start by saying that this book made me feel all the feelings. Boiling rage, simmering resentment, blooming hope and smug satisfaction.
I’d be giving away the entire plot by elaborating, but I also think people need to be able to make informed decisions on what they consume, should they choose to be so informed.
So… this book is set in Alabama, with a plot that highlights racial and political inequities.
You can determine for yourself what you think ‘justice’ looks like.
But Eddie Flynn and his associates completely rule the day. The hustler- turned-attorney never ceases to entertain me with his cunning wit.
AND THE TWIST WAS SO GOOD.

Wow.Wow.Wow.Wow.
I couldn’t put this book down. The Devil's Advocate by Steve Cavanagh plunges you into the heart of deep-south Alabama, a place where racism is ingrained and segregation still lingers in everyday life. Eddie Flynn, a sharp New York defense attorney, is sent into this hostile environment to save an innocent young Black man wrongly accused of murdering a twenty-year-old white woman. The town is steeped in prejudice, and the District Attorney, driven by a disturbing obsession with capital punishment, goes so far as to tamper with crucial evidence just to see another execution carried out.
What I love about Cavanagh’s writing is how vividly he brings the setting to life. You can feel the oppressive Southern heat, smell the rot in the air, and experience the rising frustration as the townspeople and corrupt authorities push you to the edge. More than once, I wanted to hurl my Kindle across the room out of sheer outrage.
If you're a fan of A Time to Kill, this book is right up your alley.

Ugh I love Eddie Flynn books. Keep them coming! The twists and turns are always so fun and surprising - it is so hard to put these books down. Another great entry in the series!

I was really excited about "The Devil's Advocate" because the description sounded both intriguing and original. I've read other works by Steve Cavanagh and was hopeful that I would enjoy "The Devil's Advocate". Unfortunately, this book was a miss for me. I think the premise was creative, particularly the role of the prosecutor and the potential commentary on the death penalty in the United States. Ultimately, there were too many diverging plots running throughout this book and the story lost the thread. From the dialogue to the writing style, this book felt like a bad satire of a courtroom thriller.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Steve you did it again my man! I love his stories and twists! he is an auto buy for me so this was an exciting honor to receive! This story is a part of the Eddie Flynn series so keep that in mind. The good vs. evil suspense and quick wit of Eddie really sell it.

NEW ARC READ!!!
RELEASE DATE : 5TH AUGUST 2025
Date : 26th July 2025
Book : The Devil’s Advocate
Author : Steve Cavanagh
Genre : Thriller / Mystery
Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eddie Flynn heads to Alabama to take on one of his most dangerous cases yet which is on a young man that is sitting on death row for a murder he swears he didn’t commit, and the prosecutor nicknamed “The Devil’s Advocate” has a reputation for putting people away whether they are guilty or not.
What follows then is a tense legal battle in a town where justice feels more like vengeance, and corruption runs deep.
The author really knows how to blend smart legal twists with suspense, that’s for sure!😆 The courtroom scenes are sharp, the stakes feel real and the pacing mostly keeps a tight grip throughout. The antagonist in this one? Pffttt..Seriously unsettling and unfortunately, far too believable.
My only small complaint is that a couple of the side characters felt a bit underdeveloped, and there were a few moments where I wanted just a little more subtlety in the plotting. But honestly, that didn’t take away from the overall impact.
If you love legal thrillers that challenge your sense of justice while keeping you fully entertained, The Devil’s Advocate is absolutely worth your time. Not quite a perfect five for me, but a very solid, thought-provoking four stars.

Every single book in the Eddie Flynn series has been a homerun !!
You think you've read 'em all – but with each book Steve Cavanagh writes comes a new, unexpected series of jaw-dropping events.

Andy Dubois is accused of the murder of Skylar Edwards. Crooked Sunville County DA, Randall Korn is known for his high death penalty rates and when he instantly goes for death for Andy, in steps Eddie Flynn and his team to try to win his case before its too late.
The book started off with instant action and drew me in. Throughout the first 30% I was invested in the story. Sadly after that I felt the story dragged and nothing really new or interesting was happening. There was too many subplots going on and although they all wrapped up in the end, I felt it was too much. The physical description of the DA was excessive and didn’t need to be mentioned everytime his character was involved in something. I think if the book was much shorter and didn’t have as many characters I would have enjoyed it much more. This was my second novel from the Eddie Flynn series and I felt this book did not showcase him and his wittiness that I loved in my first read. I did enjoy the courtroom scenes, as those were my favorite parts of the novel.

4/5 stars
Thank you Atria Books for the advanced reading copy!
After DNF'ing another book in the Eddie Flynn series (WITNESS 8), I was a little hesitant to pick this one up. HOWEVER, I'm really glad I did!
This book was just a little bit too long, but otherwise it was great. This can absolutely be read as a standalone, you just don't get all the back ground nuances of the characters' relationships, but otherwise you're not missing much.
While this book was on the longer side, the twists just kept coming and that made it easy to get through. I predicted a few things, but was totally mind blown by others. Even down to the author's note... Cavanagh just kept me guessing!
If you like a conspiracy/government/corruption/procedural type of story with morally gray characters, you'll really enjoy this one!

I always love Eddie Flynn books, and The Devil’s Advocate did not disappoint. This time, Eddie travels to Buckstown, Alabama, to defend Andy Dubois—accused of murder and up against a corrupt system and a prosecutor known as the “King of Death Row.”
There are some seriously despicable characters and heavy themes like racism, corruption, and abuse of power, but also plenty of suspense, smart twists, and Eddie’s signature wit. I love how his team continues to feel more like family with each book. It wasn’t my favorite in the series, but the emotional ups and downs kept me hooked and rooting for justice the whole way through.

I'm not usually a fan of courtroom procedural type books but this series has blown me away. I really enjoy that you don't need to read them in order. Great twists, it kept me engaged throughout.
thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Eddie Flynn and the gang is back! I absolutely loved this! I loved it enough every few chapters I had to stop and tell my husband everything that was happening. I just love the characters and it seems like with every book the cases get crazier. My mind was going crazy keeping up with all the crazy of the town. I can't rave enough about Steve's Eddie Flynn series!!
