Steve Cavanaugh writes such a riveting and intense ride of law and justice with the thrills you expect from a full-blown action thriller. The Devil’s Advocate is raw, personal, and en enthralling tale of doing right against all odds.

Another Cavanagh slam dunk for me. I absolutely love these characters. I also love all of the twists and turns every case takes that makes it impossible to predict anything. I also love how Cavanagh writes the characters we are meant to hate. He gets me to truly despise them.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Another wonderful addition to the Eddie Flynn series! It can be read as a stand-alone or within the series. It is filled with corruption, small town secrets, and a big city attorney who is ready to go to battle. The amount and variety of rollercoaster emotions that this book made me feel is hard to put into words. This is why Cavanagh is one of my favorite thriller writers.

Masterfully written, this is an absolute must read and addition to any thriller collection! It is fast paced, shockingly suspenseful, courtroom extraordinaire you don't want to miss.

Wow! Any emotion I could feel was felt reading this book. From laughter to tears to white knuckling the edge of my seat. Easily a 5 star read! The evil, corruption and racism left me feeling sad and angry. It was as disturbing as the crime itself. I absolutely love Eddie Flynn, Kate, Bloch and Harry. Their characters never disappoint. Thank you Atria Books for this ARC I could not put it down... absolutely phenomenal writing Mr Cavanagh.

Let me start by saying that The Eddie Flynn series is my favorite legal thriller series. Eddie and his sidekicks are unmatched in being down to their last cards and pulling an inside straight. The legal words play is always fantastic. I’m a huge fan.

This book, not so much. I thought the over the top corruption was too much. Yes, small towns, especially in the South, have a history of racial corruption but to think this amount could exist today bends believability. Social media alone could have made this a national scandal and brought some accountability. This story was just too cynical for me.

I hope the next book in this series gets things back on track.

Steve Cavanaugh's *The Devil's Advocate* is an essential read! I found it impossible to put down. This novel is a captivating addition to the Eddie Flynn series, featuring the charismatic criminal-turned-attorney Eddie Flynn and his dedicated team. The story evokes elements reminiscent of *To Kill a Mockingbird*, as Eddie and his colleagues travel to a small town in Alabama to defend a young Black college student wrongfully accused of murdering a fellow student with whom he worked. As the plot unfolds, more lives are lost, and Eddie and his team find themselves in escalating danger, keeping the suspense at a fever pitch. This book masterfully combines thrilling elements with an exceptional legal procedural narrative. Cavanaugh has undoubtedly secured a spot among my favorite authors. I give it a well-deserved 5 stars!

I am very quickly becoming obsessed with this author 😅 I recently read an ARC by him that was five stars, and this one was close too!

I especially loved the unexpected social commentary and subplot about the racism and sexism that still plagues this country today. This book is a look into the Deep South and the fact that these issues still happen all over the country.

Also, the story was just so well-written and twisty! I definitely guessed the biggest twist that was going to get the bad guy at the end, but there were definitely some things pop up that I wasn’t expecting!

I feel like Cavanagh’s books are always just fun and quick reads, but only quick because I’m so desperate to see how they end 😂 I mean, I read this one in like, 6 hours so 😅

The only reason this one isn’t getting 5 stars is because I felt the ending was super fast- I would have liked more time to observe what was happening and enjoy some of the payback dealt.

When a well loved member of the small community of buckstown is murdered they find and arrest the last person seen with her. Open shut right? With the DA with the highest number of death row convictions in US history is in the case it seems like a done deal and the whole town is behind him. Turns out it’s easy to win cases when you write the whole narrative of the crime. A fed with a guilty conscious about this DA puts a team of NY lawyers on he case and asks them to basically come up with a miracle out of nothing. Can they do it?

I loved this one! Court room thriller is a new one for me and it has just the right balance of in the court room and the background. A lot of characters reminded me of characters from movies enough that I could get a picture in my head without taking over completely. The crew of lawyers are a motley crew of personalities that fit together perfectly. You hate the bad guy through every second of the story and there are a few that you love / hate at the same time. The twists were clever and not predictable which is rare in the thriller world lately. I didn’t realize that Eddy Flynn is a series so I’ll definitely be looking into more, but this worked as a stand alone also. Also don’t miss the authors note!

Thank you Atria Books via NetGalley for the eARC! All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Steve Cavanagh does it again! It’s my second Eddie Flynn and it continues to deliver the same thrills as the first I’ve read. I’m glad I read in this specific order as I can see the character growth and enjoy the reappearance of previously introduced characters. The book does a great job of reeling in the readers and maintaining the suspense - I literally couldn’t put this book down and read this in less than a day.

Steve Cavanagh and Eddie Flynn can do no wrong in my book. I love these novels and really enjoy reading the court scenes, reading the secondary characters, and the crazy crazy plots Cavanagh comes up with.

This was one of the hardest to read with all the strong racism and radicalism especially with the author's note in the end and I thought about putting it down several times. But I made my way all the way to the end and Cavanagh's books never disappoint.

with gratitude to netgalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

This book was phenomenal!! A thrilling, suspenseful story of political power, corruption, arrogance and greed! Everything needed for this twisty tale of a young girl’s murder and those involved. The cops have their suspect and it’s a locked up conviction as far they’re concerned…especially with a confession! The family of the girl are devastated and the town just wants the death penalty conviction and to move on….but an outside attorney has other plans as he studies the case. Could this town be so corrupt? People are going missing, there are more unexplained deaths and the lies just keep adding up. You will thoroughly enjoy this complex suspense …and that ending!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the arc!

I found myself completely hooked by this book! I felt the tension from the very first page, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages as the stakes kept rising. I appreciated the way the novel built an intense atmosphere—between the corrupt legal system, the ruthless district attorney, and the small town’s fury, every moment felt charged with suspense. I connected with Eddie Flynn’s determination and sharp wit, and I admired the way he fought against overwhelming odds. I felt the urgency of the case and the desperation to uncover the truth before it was too late. The twists and turns kept me guessing, and I loved how the novel balanced legal drama with high-stakes action. I finished the book feeling exhilarated and deeply satisfied. The fast-paced storytelling, gripping tension, and morally complex characters made it an unforgettable read.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves courtroom thrillers with an edge.

I absolutely loved this book! This was my 3rd Steve Cavanaugh book and I have just ordered the other books in the “Eddie Flynn” series! I was hooked from the very beginning. This was one of my favorite books that I’ve ever read. I wasn’t able to make the prediction of who “The Pastor” was in the story all the way until the end. Reading this book was like watching an episode of law and order. I love being able to visualize what I want the characters to look like. This book was so easy to follow and I never lost interest. I wish I had discovered this author before now.
