Laila moves to Violet Lane, a quiet cul-de-sac close to her new job and all of the amenities. She is welcomed by the neighbours, and starts a hot relationship with her next door neighbour Max.
All is going well until the woman across the road goes missing. Laila represents the husband (it's always the husband, right?), and then another neighbour dies.
Phew! This is a hot and sultry novel. Miranda Rijks gave trigger warnings, and rightly so. I am not personally fazed by graphic sex scenes, but some people are.
The novel is dark, suspenseful and unputdownable. I started it in the evening and finished at 1am.....
I found it disturbing that Max moved so fast, wanting to marry Laila and have a family. It creeped me out, wondering what his motive was.
I did figure out the killer early in the novel, there was a massive clue, and I was right. It didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book at all, motive was what I was looking for.
All in all, I can recommend this book wholeheartedly, I am a Miranda Rijks fan through and through.
However, if you are a prude, don't read it. The physical side of a relationship is normal, but if it offends you to see it in print... don't read the book.
