The Thrashers are a well-known group of five friends at school, and they are named after their leader’s last name. Emily really wanted to be one of them, but they did not want to let her into their circle, and later, she takes her own life. As the investigation begins, The Thrashers end up at the center of it all.
This is a YA mystery/thriller. Unfortunately, this one was not for me. There were no likeable character, only stupid, selfish, very-bad-at-decision-making teenagers. And the ending was unsatisfying. The narrator did a great job in the audio book.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I just finished this on my commute and I’m internally screaming JULIE SOTO WHATTTTT???? where is the rest of it? I’m gonna SOB??? WHATTTTTTT.

Phenomenal story telling. Wow. But seriously I’m gonna go to work lock myself in the bathroom and cry because that epilogue??? oh I’m unwell.

Thank you MacMillan Audio for the Audiobook, Eva Kaminsky and Jesse Vilinsky did phenomenally and I was hooked.

I would empty out my bank for a sequel.

Oh my goodness THE THRASHERS is so much fun! It's like a combo of GONE GIRL, WE WERE LIARS, and GOSSIP GIRL all rolled into one juicy, entertaining YA mystery. I can't wait to share this book with my high school library kiddos! It can't get published soon enough. This is one of the best thrillers/mysteries I've read in ages. I hope Julie Soto publishes more YA!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the Audio ARC in exchange for my honest review. I listened to this in 1 day so I hope that shows just how much I loved it!

The Thrashers are the "it" group at their high school - rich, super popular, and the kids everyone wants to be friends with. All of that starts changing when the journal of Emily Mills, a girl who desperately wanted to be a Thrasher, emerges depicting them as bullies. Suddenly, the group finds themselves under the scrutiny of their peers and the police, with their futures in jeopardy. Jodi, the misfit of the group, starts unraveling the mystery...and creepy things start happening that lead the Thrashers to think they are being haunted by Emily.

I don't typically read thrillers or mysteries, but this book had me hooked from the very beginning. It was dark and full of perfectly timed plot twists and so much drama. The cast of characters was fascinating. They were flawed and morally grey. I loved that each character had their own distinct personality with layers of complexity and secrets that were revealed throughout the book. I also adored the romantic subplot and was rooting for those characters so hard. This book was intriguing, thought provoking, and immersive.

I listened to the audio and loved the narrator who did a fantastic job portraying the FMC's emotions throughout the book.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the advance copy!

First off… I would like to say bullying isn’t nice, but damn Emily. Take a damn hint lmfao. I would’ve bullied her too jk ☠️ But I would’ve been so annoyed of her presence too & the whole set up leading to her 🪦? She is truly psychotic. And all for some MAN, omfg. It couldn’t be me, Lord.
IT. COULDN’T. BE. ME.
Do I blame them? No. Do I hold them accountable?
Sorta lmfao. I’m sorry, but like, it wasn’t like in your face bullying, you know? It hurts, but after so many hints how can you even stand to be around people who don’t even like you 😭😭😭😭 STAND UP.
Idc, she’s a villain. And the way she had her younger sister, I think she’s younger- Hannah Fo Fana Banana lay right by her & turn the cold water on & everything?! She’s wild… Hannah’s weird af for that too though, like? You’re just gonna let your sister…
Yk what… I can’t lmfao. AND EMILY TRANSFERRED SCHOOLS FOR BEING A WHOLE WEIRDO TOO????
I’m sorry, I just can’t.
Leave Julian alone & rest in damn peace, crazy.
Was he wrong? Yes, he went too far. But the fact that she’s still sticking around is like, girl. You still tryna get Thrashed in the afterlife or what ☠️ MOVE ON.
I wasn’t expecting this to be so entertaining, esp as a girl who’s from Cali. I didn’t know girls were weird like that in Sac, must be that heat fr lmfaoo jk.
Pauline weird for throwing that bottle too though, I ain’t forget you 🫵🏽
You ain’t bad, You ain’t NOTHING!! And that was her fear… Being nothing 🌚 (Not good enough technically). But same girl, same. She needs to chill tf out though, like poor thing is fr riddled w/ anxiety al maximo.

Overall yeah, fun story. So much mystery & the characters were all giving Euphoria. My biggest issue was probably the mention of Pop Culture, but like that’s a personal ick. But Zach (If I spell these mf names wrong, blame the Audio) But anyways, Zach liking Frank Ocean? SAME ☠️ Oh, I hate that his ass walked out scotch free… Mainly ‘cause he was the whole center cause of all of this?! But I guess he didn’t technically… legally… do anything other than slang that dang a lang to some crazy girl that no one even likes, like what lmfao. He set his crew up 🌚

Anyways… I hate that this was so long, but I legit have no one to vent to about this lmfaoo.
I ate this up within 24hrs 🫶🏽 I even worked out overtime ‘cause I got so lost in it 💪🏽

Wow this book has actually blown me away. It was the perfect fast paced twisty YA thriller that could get anyone out of a book reading slump. I found myself invested in most of the characters and was pleasantly surprised at the development of a certain two (no spoilers here)! The end had my jaw on the floor and I will not be forgetting it anytime soon. The narrators were the perfect choice for this book and sound like they are in high school without being over the top. Highly highly recommend this audiobook!

I had the privilege of listening to the audio of this story. Eva Kaminsky reads the story at a great pace and adds emotion in the right spots. She is the reason I was hooked. I have heard Jesse Vilinsky in some previous stories so hearing her just brought me back. She does a great job portraying Emily's voice. The audio was amazing and I would highly recommend it.

I went into the story not knowing what it was about but as soon as I started, I was hooked. I didn't want to put it down. There was a couple times I was on the edge of my seat and couldnt believe what was happening. I didn't want it to end and wanted more. Also love the setting Sacramento which just brings up nostalgia for me. I love this story and would recommend it.

Julie Soto can do anything and The Thrashers is proof! This is a flawless transition into YA. Soto never talks down to her audience, developing fascinating characters that have you hooked. This is by far one of my favorite thrillers I’ve read in years whether YA or adult. The plot is interesting with twists that make perfect sense and still catch you by surprise. Absolutely loved it!

Eva Kaminsky did an outstanding job with the narration!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ALC in exchange for an honest review!

The Thrashers is a wonderfully narrated YA mystery/thriller. The Thrashers will appeal to teen readers with its unique story and characters. This isn't your typical spoiled popular kids getting away with bullying story. There are unexpected twists and turns throughout. Recommended for all YA collections!

4.5 stars ~ I cannot even explain how hooked I was during this book. Finished it in 24 hours because I was LOCKED IN. The more YA mystery/thrillers I read, the more I believe I like this genre more than the adult counterpart. This story was absolutely gripping and bonkers.

The Trashers follows an elite popular group, comprised of five very different high school seniors. Told from the perspective of the only Thrasher that is not from a rich family, Jodi Dillon has to navigate her senior year following the death of a girl who was "thrashed" (aka dropped from their friend group) and the mysterious, and maybe criminal, circumstances that surround it. With a touch of paranormal interest, this story very much gave Pretty Little Liars, in terms of the suspense, drama, intricate relationships between characters, obsession, stalking and life or death decisions. I literally would read an entire series of this!!!

I highly recommend this and all of Julie Soto's books. She can really do it all! Thank you so much to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press | Wednesday Books, and Macmillan Audio for this ARC.

I think I didnt fully know what this book was and now that I do.....it's not for me like at all. I don't typically like YA thrillers because they don't give me a good thrill anymore due to the fact I'm 20 and no longer in high school. Overall it was good for what it was but what it was, wasn't for me.

**Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the amazing audiobook**

Let me start by saying I really enjoyed the audiobook. The narrator did a really great job of conveying the emotions of all of the characters but especially the FMC. I could hear the uncertainty and guilt at times and it made me want to keep listening which I did. I ended up finishing this audiobook in about 1 day because I had to keel listening.

For the book itself….wow! I do not want to give anything away but the ending of this book definitely took me off guard! I binged this book and for a YA thriller I really enjoyed the twists and turns and it ended with goosebumps for me!

I received an advance copy of "Thrashers" by Julie Soto, a novel that delves into the aftermath of a high school suicide and its connection to the enigmatic Thrashers group within the school. The book was a fine read; it progressed quickly, making it easy to follow. However, it lacked depth in character development, which could have added more layers to the narrative. While I appreciated the writing style, I felt that the book could have offered more in terms of fleshing out its characters and their motivations. Overall, it was a decent read, but I was left wishing for a bit more complexity and emotional depth.

The clique of wealthy kids at school are heaped with blame for a classmates death. I liked that the characters weren't depicted as bad actors simply due to their proximity to money. A fun, twisty high school thriller, where teens limited perceptions render them to be unreliable narrators of their own events.

Great audio narration.

I should preface this by saying that Julie Soto could write an instruction manual on electric tools and I would eat it up like an elementary school pizza party. Thank you so much to Julie for sending me an early copy of this book, and for Macmillan Audio for letting me listen to an early copy of the audiobook (which was executed brilliantly by the narrators!)

This is everything you want out of a YA thriller! Think Pretty little Liars or 13 Reasons Why just with less melodrama and gratuitous plot twists. Soto presents a very real cast of very real teenagers in modern times, and touches on very real topics including cliques/friend groups; high school perceptions skewed by social media; differences in tax brackets; alcoholism; and privilege. And she balances it all beautifully to give you a compelling, gut-wretching story about these kids and the consequences of stupid, selfish actions.

I loved every character in this. Even the supposed antagonists. So strikingly different, but the same in their naivety and incessant need for attention.

Julie Soto is a genius and I am so honored to be able to read her work. I want 40 Thrashers books of their insane escapades STAT.

The Thrashers was a highly anticipated release for me this year, as I am a big fan of Julie Soto’s books. I was very excited to get to listen to an ALC of the audio, and the narrator was perfect for the book. The story sucked me in from the very beginning and kept me captivated with twists and turns. I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. It is very much in the style of Veronica Mars. This is NOT a romance and shouldn’t be judged as one. For a YA thriller, it is absolutely excellent. I do have major concerns with the sense of justice when it wrapped up with a certain individual being judged much more harshly than the actual individual responsible. It almost feels like the author and FMC both didn’t realize who committed actual crimes. I don’t think there was a criminal expert screening the book. It’s so egregious that it took an otherwise five star book down to four stars for me. But four stars is still a very excellent book.

The audiobook narrators had me captivated from the very beginning. I enjoy when narrators have distinct voices for each character, it helps the story to feel more realistic and more entertaining. I honestly didn't want to stop listening to it and felt engaged with the story throughout. Sometimes with audiobooks my mind can wander and I'll have to rewind, but this was not the case! I was fully immersed in the story and couldn't wait to hear what happened next!

The story starts off with a girl named Emily. She dies by suicide, and a friend group called "The Thrashers" become suspects in her case. And then strange things start happening to the Thrashers. Is someone messing with them? Is Emily haunting them from beyond the grave? Who is innocent and who is guilty?

I didn't know who to trust. I couldn't tell if the main character, Jodi, was reliable. So many secrets! So many twists! So much drama! I was enthralled from start to finish and was on the edge of my seat throughout. A highly satisfying YA mystery/thriller.

If you enjoy the book, wait until you hear the narrator as you listen to this audio. The narrator makes it somehow even more suspensful and ominous.

This narrative is captivating and addresses some profound issues.

It is chilling compellingly.

Jodi Dillion is part of an elite circle called The Trashers, including Lucy, Paige, Julian, and Zack. While her friends are affluent and glamorous, Jodi comes from a different socioeconomic background. She and Zack have been friends since second grade, and although many question her place in their exclusive group, Jodi herself shares those doubts. She harbors a secret anxiety about being "Thrashed," a term that signifies being cast aside by the group once they no longer find her valuable or entertaining.

Emily Mills, who was eager to be accepted by The Trashers, initially had a crush on Zack but eventually became more interested in Jodi. Despite the group's open disdain for Emily, Jodi treated her with kindness. Consequently, when Emily took her own life, her family held The Trashers responsible, but they did not direct the same blame towards Jodi. Following Emily's tragic death, unsettling events begin to unfold. Hannah, Emily’s younger sister, starts to emulate Emily by changing her hair color, wearing her clothes, and attempting to connect with Jodi. Meanwhile, Lucy and Paige experience a growing sensation of being watched. Even Julian and Zack are not spared from the strange occurrences that seem to haunt them. They all feel as though Emily’s spirit is pursuing them.

Will they uncover the truth before they are implicated in Emily’s death? Or will they face the consequences of their actions?

Side note: Note to author, I hope you write a follow-up novel. It's that great!

I know this book is YA, but it absolutely grabbed my attention. I wanted to know what was going to happen as well as who did what and what was the truth.

It made me think about how I treat people that I may not necessarily like. I am probably like Jodie as I am super nice to people even when Im annoyed in secret. How can I be a better friend who helps others be kind to others too?

I plan to share this title near publication date. I haven't made my posting schedule for May yet, but it will be near publication day. I will share on my instagram at www.instagram.com/robinashleyreads
