Heartfelt, cozy, and an all around perfect prequel romance to a romantic small town series!
-Small town
-Slow burn
-Multiple different love stories
-Protective Hero
-First Love
-Multiple POV
This story combines multiple love stories all intertwining into one book set in a small town, full of emotions and new beginnings. This was a perfect prequel I thought, and am excited to continue on and see where these characters stories go!

Silverleaf Rapids is a heartfelt and grounded start to the Ransom Canyon series. Even without having read the other books or seen the Netflix show, this story pulled me in with its small-town Texas charm, layered characters, and themes of family, love, and starting over.
This isn’t just one story—it’s three. Staten is 19 and forced to leave college and the girl he loves when his grandfather falls ill. He returns home to run the family ranch, stepping into responsibility way sooner than expected. Then there's Peggy, the overlooked youngest in a big family, who’s given up her own life to care for everyone else. Her journey to finally chasing what she wants was one of my favorites. And Charlotte, a burned-out professor looking for something different, finds a fresh start—and maybe love—when she moves to Ransom Canyon.
Jodi Thomas gives each character their own arc, and while the book shifts between them, it all weaves together smoothly. I liked that the romance felt slow and real, not rushed. And the setting? You can feel the West Texas dust, the family legacy in the land, and how deep the roots run at the Double K Ranch.
The pacing dips a little in the middle, and yes, you’ll see a few familiar romance tropes, but I didn’t mind—it’s more about the journey than the twists. If you love quiet strength, second chances, and stories with heart, this one’s for you.
Whether you're new to the Ransom Canyon world or already a fan, this prequel is a solid intro. I’m definitely curious to keep going with the series now.

What a great read!
I absolutely loved the TV adaptation but as always the book was better! This prequel is just what's needed to get you into canyon ranch.
This was a good build up to the next book for sure! You got a lot of history of the land, some drama mixed in and of course spice!
Thank you hambright, NetGalley and Jodi for this story!

I love the 90s set back for these characters. I hadn't read any of this series yet, but have been introduced to them from the Netflix show, so I love being able to get more of a glimpse into their past and taking it back to the 90s and a time I can reminisce and relate to. It's a fun take and I can't wait for more.

Silverleaf Rapids is the prequel to Ransom Canyon, the new series on Netflix. In this book we read the story of several Ransom Canyon residents. We meet 19 year old Staten Kirkland, who has had to leave College behind to take care of his family ranch after his grandfather has been admitted at the hospital. We also read about 27 year old Peggy Warner, who has been taking care of her whole family, and never doing something for herself.
Silverleaf Rapids was an enjoyable read in which we get to know more background to the Ransom Canyon story. The characters where fun to get to know, and I loved the Texas setting. I always find Ranch stories very charming. And this book definitely had some charming elements. But honestly, this story was a bit to sweet for my taste and I felt like this book missed a bit of depth.
Overall this book was just not for me. I did enjoy reading a bit more about the characters I’ve seen in this tv series, but I’m not necessarily sure I like those Kirklands more now.

I enjoyed this book a lot! I loved Ranson Canyon, and when I saw a prequel, I knew I had to read it! The characters were very enjoyable. Wilkes and Angie had a special and unique relationship. It was so lovely to be back on this farm again. I also loved the book's suspense and finding out about Angie's past and the things she was running from. I am glad I could read this book and recommend it to any reader!
Thank you so much to Jodi Thomas and Hambright PR for letting me read and review this book!

Silverleaf rapids is book 2 in the series. But can be read separately. Each story is a romance about a different character. Absolutely loved book 2.

I'm obsessed with Ransom Canyon at the moment (watched it three times already and will rewatch it again) so I was so excited to get my hands on this book!
It's a prequel to Ransom Canyon, and I loved finding out how Staten became the owner of the Double K ranch, and the glimpses of Quinn's life in New York before she comes back to their small town. This was a cute, lighthearted read (mostly, brief mentions of illness, ab*se) and I really enjoyed it! I want to read Ransom Canyon too so I can see how it compares to the show.
If you're a fan of the show or of Virgin River then you'd enjoy this fun read for sure, it has similar vibes but with cowboys!
Thank you to Hambright PR for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

🐂Having recently started watching Ransom Canyon I was so excited to read this prequel, and it didn’t disappoint!!
☀️Silverleaf Rapids gave us several stories within the Double K Ranch world and each was so fun to read about.
🐂Getting more into Staten, Amalah, and Quinn’s origin story was so interesting I couldn’t get enough! I love how much Staten loves his girl, family, friends, and his ranch.
☀️If you have watched Ransom Canyon, or just need an intro before you start, this book is perfect!!

Wonderful romance. I loved the writing and the characters. I loved the slow burn and the ranch setting. Such a great story!

Silverleaf Rapids is a heartfelt and grounded start to the Ransom Canyon series. This story takes the readers to Ransom County and the lives of a multitude of characters we get to meet. I was super excited to read this novel because I’m absolutely obsessed with the series on Netflix.
Provided a bit of history of the land, but also had a tad bit of romance mixed in and then some suspense along the way as well. It was a nice mix to set the scene for what’s to come in this series.
Whether you’re new to the Ransom Canyon world or already a fan, this prequel is a solid intro. Definitely helps give you a broader picture and although I’ve already watched the Netflix series, I would definitely want to go back and read this series to be immersed with all the characters again.
Thank you @hambright_pr and @jodithomasauthor for introducing me to this awesome world

Silverleaf Rapids By Jodi Thomas is the story of a young Staten Kirkland and how he become responsible for the Double K Ranch.
19 year old Staten is living his best college life at Texas Tech when he's suddenly called home. Hi beloved, grandfather, JR., who raised Staten is fighting for his life. Soon Staten finds himself experiencing change after change, and Staten hates change. He's home from college permanently, he's had to leave behind the girl he loves, and the BIGGEST change of all is his new title of BOSS. Staten finds himself responsible for all the decisions and more importantly the success of the Double K Ranch.
This is a great read! so interesting to find out how Staten became responsible for everything. More importantly how Staten became the man he is today!
Happy reading!

A great preview to the Ransom Canyon series. This is before Staten is grown up. Loved the story and how is progressed. The characters are still just as interesting as ever.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher and leaving a review by my own choice.

Loved getting to know the town I knew even deeper! I can’t wait to continue this series now knowing everyone’s back story so well! Texas and its cowboy charm will always have me! Staten journey and live was beautiful to read and see his growth!

If you binged the hell out of Ransom Canyon on Netflix like I did, then you need to read this prequel!! I loved seeing how so Staten came to be, and see his younger self grew up. I'd love to visit the Double K ranch and have a sit on the porch with a good drink.
I also loved seeing Peggy's life, Dr Charlotte Lane, both living vastly different lives and following a new dream ans changing their lives.
I feel like the heart of the whole book is about following your heart and dreams and making them come true, through the hard times and good times.
I can't wait to read to more from this universe!!

As a big fan of the Ransom Canyon series, I couldn’t wait to dive into the prequel—and it absolutely delivered. It was such a treat to return to where it all began and see the early roots of the characters and town I’ve grown to love.
At just 19, Staten is a college student at Texas Tech when he’s called home after his grandfather falls ill. Stepping in to help run the ranch, he’s suddenly thrust into a world of adult responsibilities, and it takes a toll—especially on his relationship with his girlfriend, Amalah. Watching him mature under pressure, and seeing the beginning of his friendship with Quinn, was one of my favorite parts.
Meanwhile, Charlotte, a teacher stuck in the monotony of her everyday life, finds a spark of joy and excitement when she meets Wade. I loved reading as she rediscovers happiness in both her career and personal life.
Then there’s Peggy—the youngest of six siblings, constantly overworked and overlooked. At 27, she’s never even been kissed, and her life revolves around caring for her demanding family. But everything changes the day she meets Duke in the cemetery.
I absolutely loved this story.

🤍 Book Review 🤍
Silverleaf Rapids by Jodi Thomas
I really enjoyed Silverleaf Rapids
It’s a heartwarming and emotional prequel to the Ransom Canyon series, giving us a look at the early lives of some of the main characters. Jodi Thomas writes with such warmth and depth, her characters feel so real .
I loved seeing young Staten take on the responsibilities of the ranch after his grandfather’s stroke, and I especially connected with Peggy’s story as she finally steps into her own after being overlooked for so long. Charlotte, the new teacher in town, brings another layer of charm and change. All three storylines blend beautifully, with themes of love, family, growth, and second chances. The Texas setting is vivid and adds so much to the story’s atmosphere. Whether you're a fan of the Ransom Canyon series or new to it, this book is a great read.
Very grateful to the publisher and @hambright_pr for my copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own

I loved this book. Reader needs to know that his is a prequel to the Ransom Canyon series. I have read that series and this book raised some questions so I will need to go back and read it again!

A great prequel to the Ransom Canyon series. I enjoyed the wrap up of what happened prior to the first book. It was Interesting to meet the characters in their younger lives before the Ransom Canyon stories. I was surprised by the relationship between Quinn, Ama, and Staten. Dan as a young adult learning about law enforcement was great.
Although I received a free ARC from Net Galley and the publisher all opinions expressed in my review ate honest feedback.
